Song Review: The Who with Isobel Griffiths Ltd. Orchestra - “Eminence Front” (Live, July 6, 2019)
Pete Townshend is in fine voice. Despite this and some searing six-string work, “Eminence Front” simply does not play well with an orchestra.
The track is the latest preview from the forthcoming (March 31) Live at Wembley, featuring Townshend, Roger Daltrey and their backing band with the Isobel Griffiths Ltd. Orchestra.
It’s too busy. Unnatural sounding to boot. And with Townshend’s guitar drowned out by the symphony, this recording is a disservice to one of the Who’s best Kenney Jones-era tracks.
Grade card: The Who with Isobel Griffiths Ltd. Orchestra - “Eminence Front” (Live - 7/6/19) - D
