So we went to see the somewhat
controversial remake of the Little Mermaid
this week.
Now surprisingly there wasn't much in the way
of collectables for this no cups or buckets
they had one lil pushy thing which is pictured
below. I didn't get one of course being I didn't
want one.
So we went to see this I personally didn't want
to form an opinion on it until I seen the actual movie
Now I'm a huge fan of the original movie
it came out when I was a kid and I remember going
to see it and I remember watching the animated
series also on Saturday mornings.
I had the movie on VHS as a kid and now
I have it on Blu-ray and I do have some
Little Mermaid merch around the house
So I was a little interested in seeing this
being I had enjoyed other previous
live-action version like The Jungle Book,
Lion King and Aladdin, ect.
now did I love it, No.
Did I hate it, No.
I would say it was pretty good and I would
say it was better then I thought it would be
especially better then the internet wants you
to think it is.
Now there is some problems with it which
I will get into and some of the good things.
Now of course they did change some things in
the movie of course in regards to story
being I think its more about there are certain
things you can easily do in animation that
you can't do in Live-Action and some scenes
were removed and replaced with others.
I would honestly say that this follows
the original animated movie about 85-90%
alot of it will look and sound very familiar.
There is alot of scenes that are peppered
in there that are different, but I would say
from the start until Ariel gets her legs
and arrives on land it is very similar
to the original movie They changed
a few things around there where she
is at the castle and spending time
with Eric its still
recognizable just slightly different at parts
then from the "Kiss the Girl" sequence
until the end its very similar to the
original again.
I would say it is somewhat faithful to the
original movie you can kinda tell
what the new bits are when you watch it.
Now one thing this movie has going
for it of course is the visuals and
it is very nice visually I would have
to say all the underwater scenes are
pretty much amazing I think it is
pretty much on par with Avatar the way of Water
in terms of the underwater sea life and
environments it does look all extremely
realistic and impressive
also the Mermaids/Merpeople effects
are amazing as well it is extremely nice.
Also Ursula was done amazingly well
the testicles and everything were perfect!
Now I know alot of people complained
about the Live-Action versions of
characters like Sebastian and Flounder
I had no problems with the Live-Action
Sebastian I thought he was really well
done and voiced well and everything
as for say Flounder I thought the voice
work was good on him but at the same time
I didn't think he looked like Flounder at
all! being in that he is like white with
black stripes? but in the original he was
Yellow with blue stripes I don't see
why they couldn't just color him
yellow and give him blue stripes?
Now one thing that that I didn't
really like was the voice of Scuttle
I don't think Awkwafina was right
for that. I don't know why I just feel
like it didn't fit.
as for the other cast I thought
Jonah Hauer-King was great as Eric
Art Malik as Grimsby was great and the
one that surprised me was Melissa McCarthy
I'm not a big fan of Melissa McCarthy
I feel in every movie I seen her in it always
seems like its just Melissa McCarthy
playing Melissa McCarthy like she is
just being herself but in this it was
completely different she was Ursula
she looked the part and she acted the
part. She looked just like Ursula
and I believe that she was perfectly
cast for this role and she played
it excellently. While watching it
your not thinking about Melissa McCarthy
its one 100% Ursula.
Now as for the most controversial casting
choice Halle Bailey as Ariel I know alot
of people are mad about this personally
I thought she did a pretty good job
but with that said if I were to make
a live action Little Mermaid I probably
wouldn't cast her as Ariel and that is just
my opinion being that
everyone would have their own idea
of how the character should or shouldn't
be but other then that I thought everyone
did do a pretty amazing job
as for the music its pretty much all
in there! I thought their renditions of
the classic songs were great
"Part of Your World" "Under the Sea"
"Kiss the Girl" and "Poor Unfortunate Souls"
were all beautifully done. I loved all that
and the audience that we seen it with
was totally into the musical moment
when they got to them.
and of course there was a few new
ones too but I didn't think alot of them
where needed
like the Song that Eric sings
was kinda unnecessary and pretty
much just a time filler I thought.
and the near the end called Scuttlebutt
its alright but again I feel that it was
kinda unnecessary and it was basically
meant to be pretty much background
noise for the scene.
but other then that everything
else was really well done.
so personally I would say it
is a good adaptation of the
Animated movie they did follow
the animated one somewhat closely
with not too many changes
but like I said it was pretty good
its not the best and of course not the
worse. I would just recommend if you
are curious and want to see it
then go see it and make up your
own mind and if you don't want
to then just don't go see it
thats it.
Also the only collectable they
seemed to have was these lil
plush Ariel dolls.

Okay the internet was being a lil mean about the backgrounds in the live action Little Mermaid Movie. They were bright and colorful when they needed to be 😤

One more thing abt the little mermaid, yall said it was danish folklore so it DOES have a culture???? And that it IS black washing??? But oh is this the only folk lore story were "appropriating" or should we talk abt giants??? Did the native americans appropriate that culture, not really, every culture has a their own depiction of ALL folklore told amongst each race, also "black washing" almost never happens, it happens so little in fact, that when it DOES happen its a big deal and almost treated like the worse things to ever happen to white ppl in media, yet i can name a list of all the black characters that had their skin lightened or changed period, also how many black characters can you name from each fandom compared to the amount of white characters, white ppl literally steal culture all the time but as soon as one character on the tv is darker than the original thats where we cross the line??? Also ariel had sisters of ethnic backgrounds, there were some with dark skin and dark hair and some white skin and blonde hair, yalls arguments are pointless, u cant use the "little mermaids story was mad by these ppl so the mermaids can only be white" bc the africans have a mermaid goddess too!! And first recorded mermaid lore was from ASSYRIA first recorded in 1000bc, SO WHO TOOK WHAT NOW??? The Little Mermaid was written in Danish and titled Den lille havfrue. The Little Mermaid is a literary fairy tale. The plot is drawn from Hans Christian Andersen's imagination rather than a specific folktale, its not supposed to have cultural ties to it.

Princess Adella (Known as Princess Snow White) ▪ 25 ▪ Gender Nonconforming ▪ She/They ▪ Jessie Mei Li ▪ Evil ▪ Open
Triggers: Death
→ Past
Adella knew she would never get her own kingdom and for the most part, it never bothered her. Attina was the one who was being groomed to become the future ruler and Adella never liked the responsibility. When she was younger, Adella was happy not settling down and just flirting with all the available boys. She enjoyed having a fun time and attending all the parties she could sneak off to. She became fond of music once it was allowed again in the kingdom. Though she was an excellent singer, she preferred dancing.
Things changed as Adella got older and they decided they had been waiting too long for her perfect man to appear. Their friends started marrying and even Ariel, their youngest sister, was wed before them. Most of the mermen would take them out once and that would be it. Even as a princess, none of their suitors wanted to see them again. Adella started worrying that they were doing something wrong.
She did not want to wait for all her sister’s to leave her and be left all alone. She drastically tried to change herself several times, but nothing would take. Adella was craving more than Atlantica could offer her.
→ Present
Adella felt guilty taking Cinderella’s offer initially, but it was better than the alternative: death. They chose not to ask too many questions out of fear and focused on the positive aspects of their new life. They would be married to a handsome prince and become a queen someday. They got to be topside for the first time and explore the land.
Cinderella changed everyone’s memories so they would think Adella was Snow White. It was a bit difficult because Adella’s hair was older than the other princess. Unfortunately, Cinderella did not bother to replace Adella, so most of her family believes she is dead. Usually, she runs away from Ariel whenever she sees her, though she sometimes gives into temptation and speaks to her as Snow. During most of those conversations, Adella tries hard not to slip up.
The dwarves are a welcome distraction for Adella. They spend more time with them than at the castle with Ferdinand. Since they have Snow’s memories mixed with her own, Adella knows them well. She likes the attention the dwarves give her. If only her husband could give her just a sliver of that love.

I read the thread about anakin padme and I fully agree.
I raise you little mermaid. I imagine how much justice would be done to it if instead of Sebastian (or what the heck? Keep him. He’s cute and he sings well) Ariel’s unwilling accomplice was a sister.
Like I think it would shed light on the VERY POOR SELFISH CHOICES she makes in the cartoon movie but at least you could sympathize with her more.
Like think of it as Ariel and Allana. Sisters who were very close initially but grew distant over their differing opinions of the humans. She was aware that Ariel collects things but pretended not to and occasionally covered for her absences. Though she wasn’t aware how much of a collection she has amassed and how she befriended a seagull, she learns of both, is shocked and wonders if she “enabled” that hobby and how it’s going to get worse. She’s the one who ends up tailing Ariel to keep an eye on her and witnesses her saving Eric. And she’s the one who tells their father who ends up destroying the grotto.
Like it would make so much sense then that now that Ariel can’t live her life the way she wants and cannot trust anyone from her family, she will turn to Ursula and a life with Eric would be so much more appealing.
I could even see, her sister, out of guilt, reluctantly promising to help her get the kiss and in the process, learning humans truly are not as bad as she thought. It would even help offset the story of how “she left the ocean for a man” because the sisters would end up rebuilding their relationship as a mute Ariel excitedly shows things to her sister in the dark and Allana too develops a certain level of fascination with their culture and items.
And then, consoling Ariel when Vanessa arrives. Helping her fight her. Rushing to get her father. And on and on.
What do you think
Hello friend! Would love to join you on this discussion but I haven't seen Little Mermaid movie and I barely remember the original Disney cartoon cause I watched it as a kid a hundred years ago 😬
