THE QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH
WELCOME TO CEBU!!!
THE QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH
Cebu City is the oldest and one of the largest City in the Philippines, located on Cebu Island’s eastern coast. It is protected by offshore Mactan Island and by the inland Cordillera Central. it is also one of its most historic and retains much of the flavor of its long Spanish heritage. A thriving port occupied the site when Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese navigator and explorer, landed there on April 7, 1521. Cebu is also known as “The Queen City of the South”.
Cebu Island and more than 150 smaller surrounding islands and islets. Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past. Cebu have plenty of famous tourist destination that is the reason why the tourist keeps’ coming back. This is one of the highlights of Cebu, the treasure that represents the uniqueness of Cebu City.
What are the Famous Tourist Destinations in the Queen City of South?
Simala Shrine
Let’s start to the Simala Parish Church as a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines. According to Frenchy (2022),
Tumblr media
"This place is so beautiful and sacred and breathtaking! It is like a castle and I love it!!!”. Simala is like the hotspot for miracle, and the Virgin Mary is the main lady there. It is a perfect spot Catholic devotees who want to ask for divine intervention. These miraculous testimonies prove that Simala can work wonders for those who believe (sunstar).
2. Oslob Whale Shark
The other side of the island is where you can experience swimming with the Oslob Whale Sharks, locally known as the “Tuki” (TravelCebu).
Tumblr media
Moreover, Oslob Municipality is known for old churches and beautiful beaches but became more popular because of the gentle giants- the Whale Sharks. Furthermore, this destination is one of the tops in the bucket lists of tourists who visit Cebu because of the rare experience. However, if you encounter with the whale shark, it is not allowed to touch them.
3. Casa Gorordo Museum
This house-turned-museum is where the first Cebuano bishop, Juan Gorordo resided. Originally built during the 1800s, a Spanish businessman Juan Isidro de Gorordo purchased the house.
Tumblr media
Due to Ramon Aboitiz Foundation’s Cultural Heritage Program, Casa Gorordo became a museum in 1980. The museum depicts Philippine culture between 1800s to 1900s.
4.Sirao Flower Garde
Heading to the more elevated spot is in the Busay area which is the Sirao Flower Garden. Going there is like experiencing the Netherlands, thus this tourist attraction is commonly called, “The Little Amsterdam”.
Tumblr media
The array of celosia (or ‘Burlas’ by locals) flowers in flaring red, purple, yellow, orange makes it Amsterdam-ish. The put-up windmill and the cool wind complement the scenic view. Hence, this gives the guests the unique, touristy feel.
5.Magellan’s Cross
King of Spain Charles 1 chose navigator Ferdinand Magellan to look for the “Spice Islands”. In doing so, Magellan was able to cross the globe and eventually landed in the Philippines in 1521. Specifically, he made his step in Cebu on March 15, 1521.
Tumblr media
Magellan presented Christianity to Cebuanos, and most of them embraced the religion. In this site is where Magellan planted the Cross (which symbolizes Christianity) on April 21, 1521. An encasement protects the original Magellan’s cross.

This is me when I was 16 Years old, At that time April 20, 2022, it was one of the best things that happened to me in 2022. Because we went to Cebu to go for a walk and my uncle also has an important job, but we can go together as acquaintances, but each pays for himself. The best thing about this is that we will board the plane, it's my first time to board the plane so I don't know the feeling of being on the plane. but the feeling of being on a plane is not good. When we were in the air, you couldn't see the houses much, all you could see was the ground and clouds, we also saw the Taal Volcano, and many others. When we arrived in Cebu, we first went to the hotel to stay, when we arrived we just rested for a while because we traveled so far, after we rested we bought a Jollibee to eat that was also our dinner. The next day we went for a walk in Cebu, among the many we visited were Yap Sandiego Ancestral House, Fort Sanpedro, Magellan's Cross, Sirao garden-Little Amsterdam and Temple of Lea. After we went for a walk, my cousin bought two guitars one of his and one for his brother who was left behind because of work. After we got home, we ate right away because the next day we were going back to Manila. Before we return to manila we will board the plane again, the good feeling of riding the plane the problem is the expensive fee. When we got home, we went to our aunt's house in Alabang to rest a little and then we were fed. After we ate we also got into the van and said goodbye to our aunt. We are on our way to Batangas.

Exploring the Cultures of the World in Cebu
Cebu is known as the Queen City of the South due to its rising prosperity and tourism. Indeed, Cebu has some of the most enthralling Philippine tourist spots. My visit to Cebu had been one of the most majestic experiences I’ve had before the pandemic.
Last 2018, my family and I went to Dumaguete for my brother’s national journalism contest. After the competition, we decided to visit and explore Cebu before going home. The first tourist spot on our itinerary was Sirao Garden.
Sirao Garden: The Little Amsterdam
Tumblr media
Picture a rainbow garden filled with yellow dandelions, pink tulips, and red roses. Sirao Garden may be the place you’re thinking of.
When we went to the garden, I was enamored by the multicolored flower fields and the European-style decorations. We strolled around the fields and took pictures.
Temple of Leah
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, we went to the Temple of Leah. The place is built on a high elevation. When we reached the temple, I immediately glanced at the towns and trees below. But, the temple isn’t all about height. It is also home to dozens of Greek/Roman styled statues. I witnessed a lot of interesting bronze, silver, and even golden statues.
Taoist Temple
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later afternoon, we also explored the Taoist Temple. We visited the fish pond, the rooms filled with portraits of Chinese gods and goddesses, and the yard where a dragon statue towers.
Fort San Pedro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our last spot is Fort San Pedro. After engaging with the cultures of foreigners, we also explored our own place of tradition. I saw a lot of paintings and cultural memorabilia in Fort San Pedro. I also learned a lot about our own history.
My experience in Cebu is truly majestic. The beauty of North European flowers and designs are found in Sirao Garden. Greek statues are present in the Temple of Leah. The Taoist Temple is home to Chinese relics and culture. Meanwhile, we can appreciate our Philippine traditions and history in Fort San Pedro. By exploring Cebu, I also explored the cultures of the world.

Your Cebu Checklist: 10 Things To Consider Before Hitting the Road.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING CEBU
Start exploring the islands and beaches of Cebu and its many tourist destinations, diving spots, historical landmarks, and delicious food. Whether you're heading to this top destination in the Philippines, here are some important travel tips to take note of. Nothing is as varied as Cebu, the Queen City of the South and the oldest town in the world, when it comes to tourist places in the Philippines. This is one of the heavily urbanized places in the nation outside of Luzon, next to the capital, Manila.
It is also where the international airport of Mactan-Cebu is located, making it open not only to domestic travellers, but also to foreigners. The word Cebu applies to both the provinces of the island and Cebu Itself. While the capital is home to most historical and cultural sights, the best-known tourist spots in Cebu can indeed be found all over the island.
Thinking of going to Cebu, and wondering what tourist places to visit in Cebu? There are definitely many beautiful places in Cebu. And, you might want to go to all of them, or choose from the Perfect Guides to Cebu Tourist Destinations. Find out what these locations are and where they are. And, as you read on, you will know how to get there.
When you fly to Cebu and its top tourist destinations, check out the following places:
1. Cebu Taoist Temple
Tumblr media
Let's start within the area of the city. First off, in the Beverly Hills Subdivision, Cebu City, we have the Cebu Taoist Temple. This Chinese-style architectural temple was built in 1972 by the Chinese Taoist community. The latter is the only temple open to worshippers and non-worshippers. Entrance to the temple is a replica of the Great Wall of China. The temple includes a chapel, library, souvenir shop, and a wishing well. It also has a spacious balcony that has an access to the scenic of the city. One ritual is where one prays to the gods to grant one’s wish. This kind of ritual includes washing hands, going inside the chapel barefoot and dropping two blocks of wood.
If you are in the mood for some hiking or exercise, you can just walk from where the jeepney dropped you, in sudlon, and hike or walk till you reached the temple. It will take you more than 30 minutes to reach the temple but it will be a good walk still because you will be passing through tree-lined streets, a perfect way to commune with nature.
2. Basilica Menor del Santo Niño
Tumblr media
Basilica Minore Del Sto. Nino is the oldest Roman Catholic church established in the Philippines. It was built on the same spot where the image of the Sto. Nino de Cebu, a statue depicting the Child Jesus, was found in 1565 by Spanish explorers led by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. The image is the same statue given by Ferdinand Magellan to the wife of Rajah Humabon as a gift over forty years after Humabon’s baptism to Christianity. he was baptized on April 14, 1521. The image was found by a soldier. It was preserved in a burnt wood box after Legazpi razed the village of hostile natives. The Holy See calls the temple the “Mother and Head of all Churches in the Philippines”.
3. Go on pilgrimage to Simala Shrine
Tumblr media
Nestled in the hills of Simala, Sibonga in Cebu is the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, or popularly known as the Simala Shrine and Cebu’s Castle Church. As the name title implies, the sprawling religious complex looks like a castle by the hillside. Simala Shrine first rose to popularity when the word spread about the miraculous Virgin Mary statue it houses. Several Catholic and Marian Devotees flocked to Simala to pay their respects and pray for miracles and the Virgin’s intercession. As its fame increased, the church began a series of renovations that transformed their once humble chapel into a grand castle-like shrine.
4. Take a Leisurely hike to Osmeña Peak
Tumblr media
Standing at 1,013 meters above sea level, Osmeña Peak is Cebu’s highest. The peak is one of several spire-like formations comprising the Mantalongon Mountain Range in Dalaguete. The town of Dalaguete is known as the “Vegetable Basket of Cebu” because of the crops it supplies to the whole province. So en route to the peak during your Osmeña Peak hiking experience, you will pass by several vegetable farms and see livestock grazing the terrain.
The picturesque trail to Osmeña Peak is an easy leisurely hike that takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Once you reach the top of Osmeña Peak, you will be greeted by a stunning jagged skyline, a panoramic view of Cebu’s southeast coastline, and a glimpse of Negros. It can be windy at the peak, so take care not to lose your footing.
5. Learn About Catholicism in the Philippines at Magellan’s Cross
Tumblr media
If you’re planning to visit the historic Cebu spots, Magellan’s Cross is an excellent place to start. The province of Cebu has a rich history, and it has witnessed several monumental events. One such event is the birth of Catholicism in the Philippines, marked by Magellan’s planting of a cross on the island.
The Portuguese explorer, Magellan, is attributed to bringing Catholicism in the Philippine Archipelago. History books tell the story of how Magellan reached the Cebu in 1521, planted a crucifix, and successfully converted the natives to Christianity. The city of Cebu soon grew around that historical site.
6. Smell the Flowers at Sirao Garden
Tumblr media
Another excellent Instagram-worthy spot in Cebu’s hillside is Sirao Garden. Dubbed as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu, this picturesque flower farm is located in the highlands of Busay.
The colorful blooms of Sirao Garden will surely make you want to whip out your camera and take thousands of photos during your sightseeing tour in Cebu.
You can find rows of sunflowers, hyacinths, chrysanthemums, daisies, and asters in Sirao Garden. The main attraction, though, is the vibrant and multicolored celosia flowers.
7. Witness the Grandeur of the Temple of Leah
Tumblr media
Hailed as the Taj Mahal of Cebu, the Temple of Leah has become one of the most famous landmarks in Cebu. This magnificent building is a sight to behold and a favorite Cebu activity for taking Instagram-worthy shots.
If you’re up for a Cebu hillside tour, the Temple of Leah is an excellent place to start. Located in the hills of Busay in Cebu City, Temple of Leah is a towering seven-story building inspired by ancient Roman architecture.
Said to have cost over PHP 80 Million, this grand structure boasts granite floors, Doric columns, a marble fountain, and several Grecian-style statues.
8. Explore the Beaches of Bantayan Island
Tumblr media
Bantayan Island is a small island off the coast of northern Cebu. Don’t be fooled by this sleepy fishing village, the beaches of this humble island exude the same charm and beauty as the famous Boracay Island. The best part is, Bantayan Island is not as commercialized and crowded as Boracay. If you want a relaxing vacation by the beach and witness one of the most beautiful sunsets, Bantayan Island won’t disappoint you.
Bantayan Island is blessed with several sprawling white-sand beaches and calm azure waters. Most of the beaches in Bantayan Island are within resorts or owned privately, but they are accessible to the public for a small fee.
9. Top Hills
Tumblr media
A top of the Nivel Hills overlooking Cebu City is Tops Lookout. Offering a beautiful panoramic view of Cebu City and the surrounding islands (Mactan Island and Olango). At a height of 610 metres it’s a great place to visit at sunset and watch Cebu City lights come alive. Not only that it offers an escape from the city noise, pollution and heat. At night it can get quiet cool up there and you may need a jacket. It’s also a nice place for a date, if you planning on doing something romantic in Cebu.
There are a few stalls up there selling snack foods and drinks. On the way up to Tops there are a number of restaurants (Lantaw, La Tegola and Mr A) you can stop at and have a nice meal with beautiful views of Cebu City. If you plan to stop at one of these restaurants on your way to Tops Lookout or back you will need to organise this into the taxi price as the drivers will want more money to do this. You can also check out Mountain View a nice park area.
10. Go on a Lechon Food Trip
Tumblr media
A visit to Cebu won’t be complete without trying out its trademark meat: Lechon. Truly, Lechon is the ultimate pork dish and is one of the must-try Philippine cuisine. It is perfected by slow-roasting a pig over a charcoal pit.The native pigs used are stuffed with lemongrass, tomato, vinegar, and a mixture of local herbs and spices. You can find Lechon anywhere in the Philippines. However, Cebu's Lechon is recognized nationwide as the best. Cebu's Lechon is famous for its signature crispy skin and the juiciest, most flavorful meat that will make you crave for more as soon as you taste it.
Unlike other versions of Lechon, Cebu’s version is so savory that you don’t need any sauce to pair it with. It’s best eaten with puso (a local term for “heart”) - rice in heart-shaped coconut fronds. The best Lechon is said to be from Carcar, a municipality two hours away from Cebu. If you can't make it to Carcar, there are notable restaurants and take-out counters in Mactan and Cebu City that offer Lechon based on Carcar recipe.
Travel leaves you speechless then turns you into a story teller.♥️

The Little Amsterdam of CEBU!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"A good place is the perfect spice for a more special memory seasoned with the company of your love ones." I saw this quote from somewhere and I thought it would be perfect to describe my experience while in Sirao. Sirao has been dubbed as the 'Little Amsterdam of CEBU' due to the abundance of flower found in that area. While some Cebuano people consider planting flowers in this area difficult, Sirao made it all possible due to the cold climate in their high typography. The location of the place is ideal and quite romantic for the visitors and tourist.
Flowers wouldn't last a life time of course because of that factor the design of the flower arrangements is also seasonal base on my observation on my previous visitation. The people in Sirao are also very welcoming and hospitable. I remember one time when we visited Sirao it was the 'planting new flowers season' or at least that's how I call it. My Mom asked one of the staff for a flower and the staff happily cut various flowers for my Mama. On my previous visit last May, the place was improved in many aspects. There are added attractions and statues that are very likely to be called 'instagramable' as how this generation calls it. There is also a pool that you can enjoy and various fish pond you could get close to. Though their are lots of empty spaces I could see that the management is looking forward to improve it everyday.
Overall, my general conclusion in this particular place is that it may become more famous and known for many years due to the constant change and influence of media for all we know it may develop into something bigger. For instance, a park with long and huge slides like ones in other countries. With good management and correct rules implementation that could certainly happen.

Sirao Garden
Tumblr media
Do you know what place is this and do you know where is it located? It is Sirao Garden in Cebu, Philippines. It is very popular here in Cebu City because of its colorful arrangement of flowers. How to get there if you do not have your own vehicle? From JY Square in Lahug, there are habal-habal drivers that could take you at Sirao Garden for about 30-45 minutes. There are two gardens but I suggest that you should choose the second garden. When you arrive, pay the entrance fee for about 50 pesos for adults, 25 pesos for senior citizen, 20 pesos for students and free for children below 7 years old.
Sirao Garden is also known as the Little Amsterdam of Cebu City. It is where you can see different kinds of flowers. People visit this garden to have some photo shoot for pre-nup, pre-debut and any other occasions. A lot of views can be seen that will satisfy you. You can enjoy Sirao Garden by taking pictures with your family, friends, or your special someone.
You can bring your family, friends or your special someone for you to create special memories. Memories that can make you smile. From what Chris Bosh said, “We’re all making decisions to make other people, ourselves and our families happy. That doesn’t take away what we’ve done together and the special bond that we have and just all the memories that we had together. That will never change. As you move forwards, you appreciate those moments and keep going forward.”

Beautiful spots in Sirao
By: Marc Dane D. Rodriguez ( August 1, 2019)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here cebu welcomes you all with its international tourist destination. You can chill yourself out and be an awe with its majestic view of the sea of flower with different variations. Sirao has been know by its fantastic landscaping and architectural designs that can be thought of as a little Amsterdam here in cebu. The are alot of picture perfect spots you can find there, one of it is that giant rock hand that you can stand above, as if its like holding you up in the sky. They also have some windmills that can really be thought of a western feels to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some flowers grew big than what youve expected for and that includes the sunflowers, we did even saw a sunflower that seeds barely didnt wven stop from multiplying that you can only see small parts of petals on it. Sirao has a two parts, the firs on was the old and original one, while the other is new and it has more picture perfect spots, just put a little angle to it. Sirao is the best spot for people who wants to enjoy their selves in the nature.

Cebu’s Most Visited Tourist Destination
By: Anna May Decierdo
Cebu is the Philippines' melting pot for food, arts, culture, religion, and island life. The province does not fail to impress visitors with its breathtakingly stunning Cebu tourist attractions and exciting activities to partake in. Cebu is a one-of-a-kind tourism destination since it is a place where the city and paradise meet.
Cebu's attractions are divided into well-distributed parts; whether you're looking for a vacation in the south, north, Cebu City in the middle, or the adjacent islands, Cebu can provide you with the best tourism options. Now let’s dive into the 5 most popular tourist destinations in Cebu.
1. Kawasan Falls
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Cebu South is Kawasan Falls. It is a three-stage waterfall of pure blue water that flows from the Mantalongon mountain range's mountain springs. Apart from its natural beauty, Kawasan Falls is well-known for being the site of one of Cebu's most popular activities: canyoneering.
The canyoneering journey begins with Canlaob Falls and continues downstream to Kawasan Falls. There are local authorized guides who accompany all guests and facilitate activities such as strolling, leaping, swimming, climbing, and abseiling through the streams at this Cebu tourist destination.

2. Bantayan Island
Bantayan Island is a small island located off the northern coast of Cebu. Don't be deceived by this peaceful fishing community; the beaches of this small island are just as charming and beautiful as those of Boracay.
The best part is that Bantayan Island isn't as commercialized or overcrowded as Boracay. Bantayan Island will not disappoint you when it comes to spending your vacation and relaxing at the beach. If you're a fan of watching sunsets, then Bantayan Island is the best choice.

3. Sirao Garden
Sirao Garden is another Instagram-worthy spot on Cebu's hillside. This scenic flower farm, known as Cebu's "Little Amsterdam," is located in the Busay highlands.
The vibrant blooms of Sirao Garden will undoubtedly make you want to pull out your camera and take thousands of photos during your Cebu sightseeing tour.
Sirao Garden has rows of sunflowers, hyacinths, chrysanthemums, daisies, and asters. The vibrant and multicolored celosia flowers, on the other hand, are the main attraction.

4. Camotes Island
For thrill seekers, Camotes Island in Northern Cebu has a plethora of outdoor activities. The Holy Crystal Cave on Camotes Island is one of the most popular. The chambers of the Holy Crystal Cave are naturally shaped downwards, making it one-of-a-kind.
Visitors can enter the chambers via a small above-ground entrance and then descend eight levels. Inside the cave, you can find well-preserved stalactites and stalagmites.

5. Moalboal
Moalboal, a popular tourist destination on the province's south-western coast, is best known for its Sardine Run. Imagine swimming in crystal clear waters with millions of sardines. You might even see sea turtles while snorkeling if you're lucky.
Travelers who have experienced this underwater wonder have described it as breathtaking and surreal. The fact that the sardines do not leave the shallows of Moalboal adds to the enchantment of this spectacle. They are accessible all year, even if you only have a pair of swimming goggles.
