Edward and Emily swapping places with Frankie and Hurricane still lives in my head rent free. I came up with some headcanons so here they are!

This is more of a list of origins:

Origin 1) Edward and Emily were sold off to the Steelworks by the North Western Railway when the Amalgamation went into effect.

Origin 2) They were sold around the same time Glynn was withdrawn from service, in 1925.

Origin 3) Emily was sold from the Great Northern Railway, shortly after she was withdrawn, and Edward was sold from the Furness Railway in 1914.

Origin 4) They were kidnapped in 1925 when sent to pick up a delivery of steel from the Steelworks.

Now the actual headcanons:

Depending on which origin, Edward would be in his original build or 1st rebuild.

Because of how much they work at the Steelworks, they're covered in so much soot that you can barely see their original paintwork. They get a washdown every few months to a year.

Depending on the origin, their NWR numbers were never given to other engines, especially in orign 4.

They were never repainted.

They started off as delivery engines until the tank and smaller tender engines in the Steelworks were scrapped. They took their places and have been doing both shunting and delivering ever since. Since they're larger engines, they struggle to shunt.

They've already tried offering shunting duties to other engines. They're done being nice. Time to manipulate folks, which also didn't work for a while.

Numbers 2 and 3 were never given to other engines. No one knows why.

Seperate set for a possible scenario

This one is a maybe but Thomas goes, "Let's bring them back home! :D"

Depending on the origin, James' reaction varies from "HELL NO!" to "Yeah, they're coming home. Back where they belong."

Edward and Emily aren't too keen on the idea. They still go and multiple scenarios could happen. They either stop at the Vicarstown Bridge and tell Thomas and James to go home before they head home. The other one is that they do go home.
