Fem February: Music
Okay my brain instantly went hard mode when I saw 'female fronted bands', before catching 'singers'. Because I was having a hell of a time remembering names of mixed gender bands with female singers.
Five faves, huh? Of Women Singers/Fronted Bands?
Muses of Yore, if you ever grace me with the name of the black heavy metal lady with the braids I will love you forever. I remember her from Headbanger's Ball but never did remember to write her name down. If this rings a bell with anyone, HER. She had fucking stage presence like whoa, and was awesome.
Anywho, moving on to the ones I can actually name.
TRACY CHAPMAN. Fucking hands down, Tracy is my all-time favorite woman singer AND song-writer. "Fast Car" might have been the gateway drug to knowing about her, but "Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution" sits in my soul and won't let go, right beside "Give Me One Reason". Her voice is in the perfect range to soothe and call to me, and the lyrics bring all the emotions, evoking a lot of how I grew up.
Janelle Monáe. She is (they are? I cannot remember where Janelle stands on pronouns at this moment), without a doubt in my mind, the absolute perfect heir to Prince's legacy. From the concept albums to the sheer vitality of the music and lyrics blending, Janelle is my favorite of this century so far.
The Bangles. Wait, Asp, really? A bubblegum pop girl group? At least pick the Go-Gos or something — NO. "Walk Like An Egyptian" slammed them onto my awareness. I LOVED the way vocals alternate between the women. I was over the moon that one of their names was Michael. That she was connected back to the Runaways just made that sweeter. The videos were great (they got Leonard Nimoy in one!). I truly blame the music business for them not going further, with the insistence on headlining Susanna Hoff as the lead singer.
Basia. While it is common for non-English speaking singers to lose their accent when singing English songs, Basia's still came through on her earliest albums. It added a different quality to the music that hooked me. Her second album was one of several in rotation as self-soothing on-repeat listens for me.
I'm going to cheat on number five, because I have three younger stars of the current century to highlight, and their sound/subjects all pull at me in a very similar fashion. Maggie Rogers ("Light On"), Rosa Linn ("SNAP"), and Alessia Cara ("Scars to Your Beautiful") were likely all introduced to me by my son's musical sharing. All three of these woman have a soothing range that I can listen to for hours. The way they approach life and love in their songs strikes a chord with me.
(I could go on for hours. Others considered for this included Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters, Dionne Warwick, Florence Welch, Sarah McLachlan, Tina Turner, The Eurythmics, Enya, and Melissa Manchester.)

Minimizing Estate Taxes with Wealth Consultants
Are you concerned about the impact of estate taxes on your hard-earned wealth? Navigating the complexities of estate planning can be overwhelming, but with the right strategies and guidance from wealth consultants, you can minimize estate taxes and secure a legacy for your loved ones. In this article, we’ll explore key insights and actionable tips to help you protect your wealth for generations to come.
Understanding Estate Taxes: The Challenge
Estate taxes, often referred to as the “death tax,” can significantly reduce the assets passed on to your heirs. The government assesses estate taxes on the total value of your estate at the time of your death. Without proper planning, a substantial portion of your wealth may end up in the hands of the tax authorities rather than your chosen beneficiaries.
The Role of Wealth Consultants in Estate Planning
Wealth consultants specialize in developing personalized strategies to protect and grow your wealth. When it comes to estate planning, their expertise becomes invaluable. These professionals understand the ever-changing tax laws and can craft a customized plan that aligns with your financial goals while minimizing tax liabilities.
Strategies for Minimizing Estate Taxes
Lifetime Gifting: Wealth consultants often recommend gifting assets during your lifetime to reduce the overall value of your estate. By utilizing the annual gift tax exclusion, you can transfer a certain amount of assets tax-free to your heirs.
Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs): ILITs are effective tools for minimizing estate taxes. By placing life insurance policies within an irrevocable trust, the death benefit can be kept outside the taxable estate, providing your beneficiaries with a tax-free payout.
Charitable Giving: Engaging in philanthropy can have dual benefits. Wealth consultants may suggest creating charitable remainder trusts or foundations, allowing you to support causes you’re passionate about while simultaneously reducing your taxable estate.
Family Limited Partnerships (FLPs) and Limited Liability Companies (LLCs): FLPs and LLCs can be instrumental in transferring assets to the next generation. These entities enable you to maintain control over your assets while gifting or selling shares to family members at a reduced value for tax purposes.
Qualified Personal Residence Trusts (QPRTs): If your primary residence is a significant part of your estate, a QPRT can be a strategic option. It allows you to transfer your residence to an irrevocable trust while retaining the right to live in it for a specified period. This reduces the taxable value of the home when passed on to heirs.
The Consultation Process: How Wealth Consultants Can Help You
Wealth consultants follow a thorough consultation process to understand your unique financial situation and goals. Experts of wealth management companies in Fort Worth TX assess your assets, liabilities, and family dynamics to develop a comprehensive estate plan tailored to your needs.
During these consultations, expect discussions about your long-term objectives, family dynamics, and any specific concerns you may have. The goal is to create a plan that not only minimizes estate taxes but also ensures a smooth transition of wealth to your heirs.

TWELVE POINTS to "Snap"
The peak of the #FearOfMu21c project, where we’re crowdsourcing the greatest singles of the 21st century. Here's an index post.
This is, in my view, the greatest single of the 21st century. Here's why.
DOUZE POINT Snap - Rosa Linn
Tumblr media
I've written a lot about "Snap".
In the Uncool 50…
…and in the gameshows site.
Tumblr media
In short: heartbreak, song, performance, three years' incubation, exposure to the world, a mass of promotion on TikTok, and finally a crossover consensus hit song.
Once heard, never forgotten. I spent a week trying to dislodge the chorus from my head. Then I stopped trying and embraced the song.
Tumblr media
This year, Rosa has mostly been working in LA. A mini-album came out in the spring, from which "Hallelujah" is probably going to be song of the year - but it's not been released or promoted as a single.
Tumblr media
Rosa's used her newfound fame to some end - not least raising awareness of the Artsakh blockade, and the subsequent ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh. She's also toured with one of Gordon Burns' cousins, and that's the last time we'll talk about Ed Sheeran.
Tumblr media
But why is "Snap" the song of the century so far? (The fact that I've written three extended pieces on the song might be a massive clue.)
When I prepared the #FearOfMu21c lists in the summer, six serious contenders emerged for this high honour. One is a cover, and I'd rather reward an original song. One is so obscure that nobody else is going to nominate it. Two have been slightly disowned by the performers, and that gives enough pause to check my enthusiasm - if it's the song of the century so far, why has La Roux or Halsey stopped performing it?
Tumblr media
Which left "The middle" and "Snap". They're two sides of the same coin: emotionally-adept music for their generation's young people, expressed in a scintillating package. The takeaway messages are the same: you know yourself, respect negative emotions, stuff will get better. Life may be rotten, but it's preferable to the alternatives. We're all in this together, all of us.
Take the moments of joy, let them run tingles down your spine.
Tumblr media
"Snap" gets the nod because it ramps the inclusivity up to the maximum. Everybody knows it, everybody who has heard it understands it. The writers - Rosa Linn, Larzz Principato, Jeremy Dusoulet, Allie Crystal, Tamar Kaprelian, and Courtney Harrell - took care to make the lyric simple and accessible. It can be understood by people who speak less English and more Poplish. And that simplicity, the directness, means we don't have to think about the meaning and the song can go straight into the psyche.
Tumblr media
"Snap" made a beeline into the global culture. Six months after release, we could hear from here to there to everywhere, and it stands out whenever we hear it.
Even if Rosa Linn never does anything ever again, she's got a tremendous legacy.

2022 AKTIV Against Cancer Award Luncheon Honors adidas, Lowe Nov. 3 in N.Y.
Tumblr media
AKTIV Against Cancer, the organization co-founded by legendary runner Grete Waitz and Helle Aanesen, today announced it will honor adidas and Olympic Champion Chaunté Lowe for outstanding contributions to the field of Exercise Oncology at their eighth annual awards luncheon. The reception will be held November 3 at the historic New York Athletic Club.
Over more than 10 years of collaboration, adidas has accounted for more than $10M in donations toward AKTIV Against Cancer’s groundbreaking exercise oncology research and programs. United by the power of sport, the two organizations have worked together to help those fighting cancer improve their quality of life through physical activity.
“adidas has been an incredible supporter of AKTIV Against Cancer since our inception and has always embodied our mission to the highest degree,” said AKTIV Against Cancer CEO Helle Aanesen. “We simply couldn't have done what we have done without adidas. There is no one better to honor than Grete's longtime sponsor and our biggest believer, adidas.”
AKTIV Against Cancer’s partnership with adidas was born out of adidas’ relationship with the late Grete, who passed away in 2011. Grete had a storied history with adidas during her ground-breaking long-distance running career, having worn and promoted its apparel and footwear for more than 30 years.
“At adidas, we believe sport has the power to change lives, and few athletes have personified that motto as thoroughly as Grete Waitz,” said Adrian Leek, Sportswear & Footwear Vice President at adidas. “Our partnership with AKTIV Against Cancer represents our gratitude for everything Grete accomplished during her remarkable life, and we are proud to supported such a great cause for more than a decade.”
Additionally, AKTIV Against Cancer will honor four-time Olympian, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and former high jump world champion Chaunté Lowe with the Gabrielle Grunewald Inspiration Award for her courage and her dedication to expanding resources and support for others fighting breast cancer. Lowe is a Global Ambassador for the American Cancer Society and a spokesperson for a new partnership between pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and patient advocacy group Susan G. Komen.
Since 2015, AKTIV Against Cancer has hosted the AKTIV Against Cancer Award Luncheon in an effort to continuously honor the legacy of the co-founder, the late Grete Waitz. The award recognizes leaders who demonstrate great philanthropic efforts using health and fitness as a platform – a belief that was instrumental to Grete and at the core of AKTIV Against Cancer’s mission.
Mary Wittenberg, Global CEO of Virgin Sport, received the inaugural award in 2015 and running legend Meb Keflezighi received it in 2016. In 2017, AKTIV Against Cancer honored The Rudin Family for their long-standing commitment to the TCS New York City Marathon and the late professional runner Gabriele Grunewald for her commitment to continue running through her cancer and inspiring many to be physically active through treatments.
More recently, the organization honored Olympic Champion and cancer survivor Kikkan Randall and Dr. Jordan Metzl in 2018, Chip Gaines, Jeff Rochford & Aubrey Barr in 2019, Shannon Miller in 2020, and Cycle For Survival co-founder David Linn in 2021.

Dunne Roaming (Griffin Dunne article from March 1988 issue of FILM REVIEW magazine) by David Aldridge
Film Review talks to Griffin Dunne, star of Who’s That Girl, After Hours, and Almost You, all available on video.
Griffin Dunne, the super-talented star of comedies After Hours and Madonna’s Who’s That Girl, has a new movie out on video. It’s called Almost You, and it’s on the CBS/Fox label.
Actually, it isn’t all that new. Dunne made the movie, in which he plays a seven-year-itch spouse wavering between wife and mistress, way back in 1984.
However, video’s product-voraciousness mean that all actors’ pasts have a nasty way of coming back to haunt them.
In fact, Dunne has fond, if vague, memories of the film. For starters, it was the start of friendships with cast and crew that would carry through into the subsequent After Hours, a dazzling Martin Scorsese comedy about the worst-imaginable night that’s also available on video, from Warner.
And, for seconds, Dunne amusedly [sic] remembers the way in which contemporary critics willfully confused character and actor.
“They never used the character’s name,” he tells me down the phone from a snowbound and freezing cold New York. “They would talk about Griffin Dunne being this spineless womanizer who does the dirty on his wife.
“They acted as if I was the one leading this immoral life. However, it was a fun film to make. I was really attracted by my character’s weakness.”
Almost You has been dubbed by CBS/Fox the first ‘yuppie’ comedy. Your reaction to that, Mr. Dunne? “None, really. I don’t know what it means. I hate the word ‘yuppie’.” Me, too!
But enough of Almost You. What all of you out there really want to know (isn’t it?) is what it was like working with Madonna on the much-pilloried Who’s That Girl, also now a Warner video.
“As far as I was concerned,” says Dunne, “she was first and foremost an actress. However, the fact that she was also a pop superstar did make working with her a rather different experience. It was the first and only time that I’ve worked on a set besieged by ‘paparazzi’ photographers.
“After about a week, I simply reduced my peripheral vision so that I simply didn’t notice them.”
It isn’t easy to draw Dunne on his view of the film - much vilified both Stateside and here. However, he does say both Who’s That Girl may not have been the best possible combination of constituents, and that often the movie business and the concept of fairness don’t meet.
“It’s impossible to tell why some movies lift off and others don’t,” he says. “Curiously, Who’s That Girl has become quite a cult film here since it came out on cassette.” The video isn’t doing too badly in the UK either, I tell him.
So far, Dunne, the son of movie-man turned writer Dominick Dunne, author of The Two Mrs Grenvilles, a society-murder story, recently filmed and now a CBS/Fox video too, is known almost exclusively for his comedic rules. [OP NOTE: Holy run-on sentence, Batman]  His ambitions, though, lie somewhat broader.
“To begin with,” he says, “Almost You, After Hours and Who’s That Girl are very different sorts of comedies. You do them a disservice by using the same, single word to describe them.”
“Almost You is a bittersweet comedy whose central character is hardly likable in the conventional sense. After Hours is a romantic comedy. It’s the sort of comedy that Franz Kafka might have been written had he written comedy.
“And Who’s That Girl is the sort of screwball comedy that they made so well back in the Thirties. How people could call After Hours and Who’s That Girl similar films escape me. But they did.
“However, though comedy is where I seem to have made my mark so far, it’s not an area that I intend to confine myself to. I want to be a rounded, all-round actor, capable of turning my hand to anything.
“I’ve a few different projects in mind, but I’m loathe to talk about them yet. They’re still at an early development stage.”
It’s comedy, though, that will occupy the Dunne’s audience attention for the immediately foreseeable future. He’s just finished shooting the wacky Me and Him, in which an ambitious New York businessman suddenly starts getting vocal advice from a certain ‘cleverdick’ part of his anatomy.
Rumor had it at one time that Jack Nicholson would vocalize the one-eyed trouser snake. Not so, says Dunne. Stephen Marcus is the mooted voice furnisher.
Dunne wears two hats. One is an actor’s. The other is a producer’s. The latter is a legacy of cash-strapped early days when acting jobs were thin on the ground, and production seemed a somewhat more lucrative proposition.
Now, Dunne juggles the two, deriving equal but different pleasure from both. “Producing has always appealed to me,” he says. “More than acting at times. In fact, it was the first thing that I really got involved with when I gave up my early notions of being a writer or a journalist.”
[Final OP Note: Okay, what the hell happened behind-the-scenes of Me and Him? There’s gotta to be more to that production than I initially believed. First, you have a major cast of actors who were mostly established by the time this movie got off the ground. In the 1988 Interview magazine article, Dunne talks about animation sequences that aren’t in the final cut of the film. In that same interview, Dunne also talks about how he and the director, Doris Dorrie, disagreed on gender politics. Dorrie, in a Projection Booth podcast interview, talked about how Dunne was terrified this movie would ruin his career. Dunne, and I imagine the rest of its big-named cast, are reluctant to talk about the film to this day. He declined to do the Projection Booth podcast, and barely talked about it on Gilbert Gottfried’s podcast.  Mark Linn-Baker from Perfect Strangers ended up voicing Griffin’s D, but the fact that Jack Friggin’ Nicholson was even rumored to be attached to this film? Based on circumstantial evidence, there must have been at least one script re-write, if not, several.]

hi everyone! (*˙˘˙)♡
i apologize for the month long hiatus! i usually go thru waves with playing my saves so i just needed a break from the hollands. i am not sure if i’ll continue my linn legacy because i don’t want the posts to be confusing 😆 i’ll probably just put them aside and focus on them once my holland legacy draws to a close (which won’t be for a long time)!
i reblogged a whole bunch of new cc & i’m going to clean out my mods folder today. i might also uninstall vampires because i NEVER use anything from it and i don’t need more things for my game to load lol. also, if anyone merges all of their cc, does it really help with lag and loading times? i merge some of my cc but not all of it.
i look forward to posting again with either my new current household or the holland’s again! 💌
