Dolly Parton Makes Her Children’s Animation Debut on ‘Lily's Driftwood Bay’
There never seems to be a time when Dolly Parton isn't busy. Whether it be dropping her 42nd album Pure & Simple, going on tour or releasing TV movies, Dolly is the poster child for staying relevant and reinventing herself. Dolly’s latest project is helping introduce her to an entirely new generation of fans, making her children's animation debut on a special episode of Lily's Driftwood Bay on Monday, March 13.
Parton plays the role of Nolene, a famous country music star, (sound familiar?) who becomes stranded on Driftwood Bay due to a storm. While she waits for her yacht to be repaired, Nolene tempts sea dog Salty (Peter Mullan) to form a glamorous singing duo with her. With dreams of becoming a big star, Salty nearly accept the amazing offer until he realizes how much he'll miss his friends. When describing her character, Parton states in an interview, "Nolene is a very famous chicken, maybe one of the most famous chickens there ever was. Nolene gets boat-wrecked, if you will, and she washes up on Driftwood Bay. She's trying to get Salty to go with her on the road on tour. Whether he does, or whether he doesn't, you're just going to have to watch and see," she playfully teases

The country icon also explains that shows like Lily's Driftwood Bay are very important to helping captivate youngsters everywhere and develop their imagination.
"I think it's important to develop the imagination of children. They need to learn to dream, because if they can dream, they can make things happen. Of course, the Imagination Library was a wonderful title for the foundation for the children," she says, referring to her successful reading initiative. "We always encouraged kids to dream more, to do more, to be more, and to care more….I really think it's important to nourish children to allow them to dream. I relate to Lily because I had that kind of imagination when I was a little kid. I used to picture myself being on stage at the Grand Ole Opry and some of those great places. Anytime I had those kind of thoughts, I would just make them come true. I'd put a tobacco stick with a tin can for a microphone, and voila! I was on stage. So I created lots of things in my own imagination. I still do that to this day. You have to have an imagination in order to make dreams come true."
Dolly's episode will air during Sunny Side Up, the only live morning show for preschoolers, at 9am ET on Monday, March 13 on Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment's 24-hour preschool network.
