current Goings On in pjo-dom reminding me why i bailed cold turkey two years ago. utterly ghoulish behaviour. leave the twelve year old alone, weirdos.

#iona.txt #someone somewhere made a very intelligent point about white dumb blonde annabeth as a product of a particular cultural moment #and how that stereotype is p much dead in the water nowadays #whereas ideas about appearance as correlating to intelligence for black girls/women very much...are not. regrettably #and so really a black annabeth is a fantastic bit of casting that allows for a deeper resonance there #but even if it didn't add anything to the story or themes or whatever. like. it simply would not justify this sort of response.#nothing does in fact.#actually im still on about the flimsy reasoning people keep giving for being upset #annabeth having grey eyes and blonde hair is not crucial to her character. those physical features do not matter. it's what they represent #the grey eyes are about her connection to her mother. okay so athena has brown eyes now. sorted.#(8th harry potter movie lily eye continuity i am looking at you here. bc that is still comically stupid 10 years later.)#and as to the hair #well. see above point about the dumb blonde thing. her having blonde hair isn't the point it's about her having a chip on her shoulder #due to being overlooked and underestimated based on her appearance and gender #all things that applied to a blonde girl in the cultural context of 2005. all things that apply (in different ways) to a black girl in 2022 #also there's like this weird panicked terror emanating from people like book!annabeth is like. being taken from them somehow #like she's still here! waiting in the wings with film annabeth. she and show!annabeth are gonna be friends!#we have two mjs floating around in the same movie universe now thanks to nwh. different interpretations of the same character can exist.#get a grip and allow the 12 year old girl to enjoy the absolute joy of getting to play such an awesome character #okay im done rant over #someone protect that wee lass and maybe take her off socials? for a bit? cause ive not looked but i think she's been seeing some stuff #and im upset and furious on her behalf #tag talk #pjotv
