was rewatching fabian’s baron moment on account of it being the most delicious piece of pvp in my recent memory and ally beardsley’s growth as a player just shone through so brightly and with such clarity. after dusting off their shock they immediately asked about the nemesis ward, had enough knowledge about fellow pcs stocked to remember adaine’s ac with such like frustrated confidence and certainty, suggested to siobhan to dimension door out of adaine’s room, like. they came into this making a character with 4 dex. and now the dice deity offered to roll a check to sense if adaine was in danger. making decisions, asking questions, getting invested in the story, trying so hard with the tools they have to save characters from danger; ally beardsley is an incredible d&d player.

the sandra lynn / fig conversation is driving me Insane. fig saying that sometimes she doesn’t wanna exist as herself at all…not wanting to ask her friends how they see her (because she’s afraid to hear their response) saying that to someone she is a monster and she Cannot stop thinking about it. sandra lynn starting the conversation saying she needs to step up but is also simultaneously taken aback about what fig expresses and doesn’t know how to responds to it and suggests getting ice cream. sandra lynn saying “convincing people they deserve good things is really tough” talking about herself but how it also reflects fig. insane!!

btw Still thinking about the moment where Tula first realizes she's literally, mechanically unable to keep up with / catch Jaysohn when he bolts and runs his full speed. That revelation that she's not fast enough to stop him, or get alongside him, much less get in front of him to protect him if he needed it. The dread terror of it. :(

nemona's sync pair story in pokemon masters ex can be viewed anytime as soon as you recruit her, and in just a couple minutes of dialogue we scarlet/violet story analyzers get some great subtext-made-text and new subtext:

confirmation of one instance of nemona working herself really hard for the sake of others and seeing anything less as a display of her own weakness and letting them down (even if the others are her pokemon in this case). it's something that i thought always seemed likely to be a theme with her if we knew more about her, with stuff like her mostly un-commented-on arm brace / compression glove and perfectly clean room nearly devoid of personality outside of her meticulous schedule and displays of her achievements, and what that implied about her relationship with her family, teachers, and idol

recontextualization of why she wears sporty athletic wear and runs around everywhere, even though she's a straight-A nerd who has to take a break every 50 feet when she initially takes you to school and is still winded enough to be worthy of comment from arven by the time you're running around in area zero

the fact that penny, the otaku shut-in, did not get called out like this means either she performed exactly as arven expected her to based on how she looked, or that nemona was doing the worst out of all of the group and might actually have some kind of chronic condition / disability like some fans theorize. nemona's stamina now being revealed to be a long standing insecurity of hers despite shrugging it off with a joke in area zero implies the latter to me

if she shrugged off a long standing insecurity with a joke, that could potentially say a lot about any other things she didn't want to make a big deal about that fans are a little suspicious of, like saying her parents were "hands-off in a good way" with her while her sister got all the attention, which i definitely think was an deflective understatement or simply not realizing there's a problem

and if her low stamina and "bad throwing" are in fact due to some kind of condition and mostly out of her control, that also makes her calling herself weak that much more tragically unfair to herself. someone hug this kid please

i trust these folks to write a compelling nemona if they were given the chance to, not just a fun and cute one. they get it.

her 15 minute storyline from her debut event is mostly just good fun with her meeting a bunch of people and almost winning a big tournament with her new friends hilda and bede. it also, however, touches upon how sad she is that people mostly get jealous of her rather than feel inspired by her (which she actually comes up with a motivational speech to try and combat this time, with hilda's help). it even has her tell blue and bede that florian/juliana back home is "a precious treasure" to her, which made me melt into boiling taffy.

now i'm looking forward to whatever else they come up with when nemona's more plot-driving friends arrive. despite how cheesy and hit-or-miss pokemon masters tends to be, they're treating scarlet/violet with respect so far. it's canon to me. i kinda need that right now when we're not sure what the friend trio are gonna get in the DLC of the actual game.

As someone who is a fan of old Hollywood musicals from the 1930s and 1940s, I love your James and Clara pieces. This adorable OC couple gives off major Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers vibes.

I was wondering, will we ever get to see some full fledged web comics with these two? With the backstory you described, I can kind of picture a 42nd Street-style story that shows how James and Clara met and ended up starring together in their movie musical “Swingin’ Sweetheart”.

Also, if you were to draw Clara in one of the dresses that Ginger Rogers wore on screen, which one would you pick?

(On a related note, I think James would totally look great in a white tie and tailcoat.)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :D fred and ginger were a huge inspiration for them, I saw the famous scene from swing time where they dance together in the school and instantly fell in love with them both, i've seen all the movies they made together. the characters had already existed, but i had to incorporate more of their charm and dynamic after that. the more old musicals i watched, the more i wanted to tell a story like them!

I'd like to do more short comics with them! though ideally if i magically stumbled into some $50 million dollars, I'd want to make a 2D animated film in the styles of singin' in the rain and cats dont dance. i have a rough plot in mind, it's just a matter of ironing it all out and making the thing, which... will not be for a long time, if ever. i refuse to sell them off to some studio that will make too many changes in the name of appeasing demographics and algorithms, and probably use it as a tax write-off right before release anyway, so it'd be indie or bust. i feel like with as integral as song and dance is to the story, doing it fully in comic form wouldn't do it justice, but there are shorter little moments and scenes i want to do with them in the meantime. maybe in ten years i can reblog this post with a trailer, if i am very lucky :') you're right though that that's what the movie would be about! and if i ever feel like a film absolutely wont happen then i'd find a way to make it work as a comic instead.
