Cetraria nigricans
Blackened Iceland lichen
This foliose-fruticose lichen forms mats and rounded tufts made up of narrow, channeled, ciliate-margined lobes. The upper surface is olive to dark brown to black-brown in color, and becomes darker when exposed to sunlight. The lower surface is paler brown, with inconspicuous pseudocyphellae. It produces marginal apothecia which have spiny margins and convex, red-brown discs. C. nigricans grows on soil and rock in exposed, arctic-alpine regions.

deer eat lichens mostly. gem is deer hybrid. with 1.17 lichen has become incorporated into many hermits' buildstyles. please make of this what you will
Well, Gem's not just going to eat decorative lichen off someone's base! That would be rude.
She does frequent the lichen shops around the server, though. Maybe some of the farms.
And really, if she finds lichen in a cave while exploring, who's going to stop her from eating that too? The hermits have plenty.

status: completed; “we could’ve had the boo-geyman” to skizz, “i’m going to stick around” to mumbo, “lichen subscribe” to cleo, tango, and skizz (for some reason he thought he had to do 5 jokes)
bigb: dig a big hole. all the way down. at least 3x3. make it your base if you want.
status: completed(?); dug a 3x3 hole down until he hit a dripstone cave and couldn’t figure out how to continue. oddly, b’s task was written on a red scroll and worded differently to the others.
cleo: build your base directly above another player’s above ground.
status: completed; built a base over lizzie’s cherry wood protection hut
tango: get scar to talk about star wars for 90 seconds.
status: completed; talked to scar about ahsoka tano’s origins
skizz: don’t be further than 10 blocks from geminitay for ten minutes. one attempt only.
status: completed; stood near gem and confused impulse and scott atop cherry hill
jimmy: break 5 crafting tables while they are being used.
status: completed; broke mumbo’s crafting table 3 times, impulse’s crafting table 1 time, and skizz’s crafting table 1 time.
etho: collect 4 beds without being caught and place them on a shrine.
status: completed; took grian’s bed placed in etho’s base, mumbo and bdubs’ bed from their respective bases while they were arguing, and took cleo’s bed while they were fighting with skizz and tango

Diploicia africana
This crustose-placodioid lichen grows in yellow rosettes on siliceous, rock in South Africa. The upper surface is often bleached and wrinkled toward the center of the rosette, and speckled with black, lecideine apothecia. Being that D. africana is a) crustose b) saxicolous and c) endemic to the southern hemisphere, it shouldn't be surprising that this lichen appears to be largely understudied, and it might be more widespread than currently recognized.

heres my presenter design! they have four different lichens growing on them from the genus cladonia: cariosa, polydactyla, arbuscula and foliacea :) very cool versatile group of fruticose lichens. i think the neon sign was definitely not added by the presenter lol - edit: i did this before listening to season 2 qna part 2, next time ill make a much cozier office for them 😞

I explore a variety of key concepts around foraging, conservation, sustainability, safety and advice you need to know when heading out to make your own natural colours whether you're dyeing yarn, ecoprinting fabrics or other textiles. I'll also cover the three guidelines for ethical foraging and how these can be applied no matter where you are in the world. Whether you are wanting to create colours with plants, lichens or mushrooms, this information will help get you off on the right foot. I'll also cover what you should know when it comes to dyeing with invasive plants. This advice is based on 20 years of biological research in the field, as well as teaching how to forage, process and use your own natural dyes.
