Queer rights may be about our right to be normal- to be normal couples, to live normal trans lives, to be normal people. But queer rights are also about our autonomy to be odd. We are QUEER, after all- weird, odd, not normal. And that is something that was originally imposed upon us, but we have taken it. It is ours now. Because lgbt rights are about our right to be normal, yes, but it is also about bodily autonomy! It is about our right to live our lives with odd genders and weird relationship structures and queer bodies. Assimilation might sound like a fine way to escape prejudice- but quite frankly, it doesn't matter. Because we are not just fighting for our rights to live like cishet people, we are also fighting for our right to live without having to worry about putting a toe out of line. We are queer, and we always will be. We won't really be free until we can live our lives as odd, as strange, as queer as we want.

today, the supreme court of russia declared the non-existent "international lgbt movement" extremist. today, the supreme court of russia declared all russian queers to be extremists. they declared love and freedom illegal, extremist, and criminally punishable. some time before that, "gay propaganda" was banned in russia. this concept includes even the simplest manifestations of love. we cannot talk about ourselves, we cannot save ourselves, we cannot love, feel loved and protected in our country. if we fight for ourselves, we will go to jail. we were forbidden not only to love — they banned us. ordinary people who simply do not fit into their concept of "traditional" and "correct". so please
talk about us. hear us out. help us if you can.

It ain't over til the bisexual speaks...
The March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation took place on the 25th of April 1993 in Washington, D.C. An estimated 80,000 to over 1 million people attended.
The 1993 March was the first March on Washington to include bisexuals in the title. Out of 18 chosen speakers, only one was bisexual: Lani Ka'ahumanu.
Afterwards, she wrote an article for bisexual magazine Anything That Moves about her experience entitled "How I Spent My Two Week Vacation Being a Token Bisexual", which can be read on her website here.
The webpage also contains a transcript of the speech she made at the event, which has been copied below the cut:
Aloha, my name is Lani Ka’ahumanu, and it ain’t over til the bisexual speaks...
I am a token, and a symbol. Today there is no difference. I am the token out bisexual asked to speak, and I am a symbol of how powerful the bisexual pride movement is and how far we have come.
I came here in 1979 for the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
I returned in 1987 for the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
I stand here today on the stage of the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation.
In 1987 I wrote an article on bisexuality for the Civil Disobedience Handbook titled, “Are we visible yet?”
Bisexual activists organized on the local, regional and national levels to make this March a reality.
Are bisexuals visible yet? Are bisexuals organized yet? Are bisexuals accountable yet?
You bet your sweet ass we are!
Bisexuals are here, and we’re queer.
Bisexual pride speaks to the truth of behavior and identity.
No simple either/or divisions fluid – ambiguous – subversive bisexual pride challenges both the heterosexual and the homosexual assumption.
Society is based on the denial of diversity, on the denial of complexity.
Like multiculturalism, mixed heritage and bi-racial relationships, both the bisexual and transgender movements expose and politicize the middle ground.
Each show there is no separation, that each and everyone of us is part of a fluid social, sexual and gender dynamic.
Each signals a change, a fundamental change in the way our society is organized.
Remember today.
Remember we are family, and like a large extended family, we don’t always agree, don’t always see eye to eye.
However, as a family under attack we must recognize the importance of what each and every one of us brings to our movement.
There is strength in our numbers and diversity. We are every race, class, culture, age, ability, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Our visibility is a sign of revolt.
Recognition of bisexual orientation and transgender issues presents a challenge to assumptions not previously explored within the politics of gay liberation.
What will it take for the gayristocracy to realize that bisexual, lesbian, transgender, and gay people are in this together, and together we can and will move the agenda forward.
But this will not happen until public recognition of our common issues is made, and a sincere effort to confront biphobia and transphobia is made by the established gay and lesbian leadership in this country.
The broader movement for our civil rights and liberation is being held back.
Who gains when we ostracize whole parts of our family? Who gains from exclusionary politics?
Certainly not us...
Being treated as if I am less oppressed than thou is not only insulting, it feeds right in to the hands of the right wing fundamentalists who see all of us as queer.
What is the difficulty in seeing how my struggle as a mixed race bisexual woman of color is intimately related to the bigger struggle for lesbian and gay rights the rights of people of color and the rights of all women?
What is the problem?
This is not a competition.
I will not play by rules that pit me against any oppressed group.
Has the gayristocracy bought so far in to the either/or structure, invested so much in being the opposite of heterosexual that they cannot remove themselves that they can’t imagine being free of the whole oppressive heterosexist system that keeps us all down?
Bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people who are out of the closet, who are not passing for anything other than who and what we are all have our necks and our lives on the line.
All our visibility is a sign of revolt.
Bisexuals are here to challenge the bigots who have denied lesbian, gay and bisexual people basic civil rights in Colorado.
Yes, Amendment 2 includes bisexual orientation.
Yes, the religious right recognizes bisexuals as a threat to “so called” family values.
Bisexuals are here to protest the military ban against lesbians, gays and bisexuals.
Yes, the Department of Defense defines bisexuals separately as a reason to be dishonorably discharged.
And yes, out bisexuals are not allowed to be foster or adoptive parents,
And yes, we lose our jobs, our children, get beaten and killed for loving women and for loving men.
Bisexuals are queer, just as queer as queer can be.
Each of us here today represents many people who could not make the trip.
Our civil rights and liberation movement has reached critical mass.
Remember today.
Remember that we are more powerful than all the hate, ignorance and violence directed at us.
Remember what a profound difference our visibility makes upon the world in which we live.
The momentum of this day can carry us well into the 21st century if we come out where ever and when ever we can.
Remember assimilation is a lie. It is spiritual erasure.
I want to challenge those lesbian and gay leaders who have come out to me privately over the years as bisexual to take the next step, come out now.
What is the sexual liberation movement about if not about the freedom to love whom we choose?
I want to encourage bisexuals in the lesbian, gay and heterosexual communities to come out now.
Remember there is nothing wrong with love. Defend the freedom to express it.
Our visibility is a sign of revolt. We cannot be stopped. We are everywhere. We are bisexual, lesbian, gay and transgender people.
We will not rest until we are all free;
We will not rest until our basic human rights are protected under federal law;
We will not rest until our relationships and families are not just tolerated but recognized, respected and valued;
We will not rest until we have a national health care system; We will not rest until there are cures for AIDS and cancer.
We deserve nothing less. Remember we have every right to be in the world exactly as we are.
Celebrate that simply and fiercely.
I love you.
Mahalo and aloha.

Putting it out there that to me, at least it's concerning how few people have mentioned that Nex Benedict is Indigenous.
Yes it may not seem relevant to some people in this sole case but with wider history it's so important.
Indigenous women and two-spirit (or otherwise nonbinary) people are at such a high risk of violence this needs to be part of the conversation around their murder yet I've only seen two posts mention it.
Especially when we as the lgbt+ community refer to indigenous peoples when talking about historical examples of nonbinary genders.
Please make sure you acknowledge this part of their identity too and support missing and murdered indigenous women and two-spirit people (MMIW2SP)

i'm sort of like... quietly whispering this into the void, but...
there are days when i think i'd love to be a trans ambassador sometimes. people have questions they are afraid to ask, and i genuinely enjoy fruitful discussions. i love educating people on trans issues, what it means to be trans, and talking about my personal experiences. i see myself as someone who is comfortable with public speaking, and have a genuine heart for this kind of work.
but i don't know how to start, or where to go, or what to apply for.

Please help my college maintain the only queer safe space it has.
My college has the 3rd floor of the dorms dedicated to gnc and trans folk. each suite [ which fits four people ] is very mixed with identities.
with that being said, they are making my friend with an ESA move out of their suite so they can change the whole suite into one with just 4 cis men. my friend is the only person in the whole suite as of right now due to recent things, but it's not fair to put a person with an ESA under that much stress.
The petition is located here.

Random Fact #6,496
Homosexuality was decriminalized in Canada in 1969.
The decriminalization became official exactly 1 day before the Stonewall riot in the US.

As a cancer survivor, FUCK YOU TO INFINITY for daring suggest that my breasts being removed means I'm on a level with ~trans women. FUCK YOU!!!
Ah, we’ve gotten to what I’m calling my Erin Brockovitch post.  So let’s start with - this is a terf.
The post in question mentions a scene in the movie where Marg Helgenberger‘s character - one of the women with cancer - makes a monologue about how if you dont have a uterus, and you don’t have breasts, can you still be considered a woman?  In the scene, Erin reassures her that her body parts don’t define her womanhood.  Most people agree with this, and with concepts like infertile women are no less women just because they can never give birth.
The same can be extended to trans women - if you agree that there is nothing biological that defines you as a woman then you cannot level biological arguments at them it’s simply hypocritical.  Breasts or no breasts - it doesn’t define you as a woman.
To pretend that you, anon, as a cancer survivor losing their breasts is still a woman because you were ~born that way~ then you are inherently saying that there is a biological part of yourself you could lose or change that would redefine your womanhood. In the same vein, that means that there is a biological part of men that could be changed to eliminate their manhood.

I truly hope younger fans cut out that queer investigation/queer baiting bullying of actors in popular queer shows this year. Celebrities are people with personal lives . Their relationships are not content to critique or cancel. Give the artists/actors the space to navigate their sexuality & relationships (queer or not) away from the public eye.
Someone expressing themselves or dating does not indicate gender or sexuality. Fans aren’t owed explanations or information.
Plz focus energy on LGBT+ orgs and ppl who need support. Uplift out and proud LGBT+ artists, actors, creators etc. Especially smaller creators & those who have intersecting marginalized identities. Trans and LGBT+ rights that are being attacked in Western countries (US), Fascists are helping other countries pass deadly anti-LGBT+ laws.

I tend to try and not make a habit of calling people out. I find it frankly a waste of time and I want to be clear here, I do not encourage piling on other people.
However, 2 days ago I blocked @marcodiazappreciation due to their repeated harassment of both my blog and the trans Marco tag. I have been polite and patient with this individual, explaining the theory and the reasoning behind it, etc. And they repeatedly come at me and other blog still, telling us the theory is harmful.
Me blocking @marcodiazappreciation though, didn’t lead to them leaving me alone. Last night they find one of my side blogs and started messaging me on there which I find completely unacceptable. I blocked you. That isn’t an invitation to start talking to me elsewhere.
I did also say the lines of communication are open, yes. However, that was kinda contingent on you changing your behaviour and not coming at myself and the other blogs in the trans Marco section of the fandom every 6 months or so.
Also “a lie, much like this theory”. A theory is literally something not proven. That is all that trans Marco ever was, a theory. I have repeatedly said and acknowledged the canon of the show is that Marco is a cis het male with feminine interests.
I know that is the canon of the show and I have not tried to insinuate otherwise since it finished airing in 2019. Yes, me and other blogs in the tag fucking screw about but we are literally having fun enjoying a character who we all can see ourselves in.
And I am sincerely sorry that your friend was assaulted back in school for being a feminine cis man but do NOT fucking put that on me and a theory in a fucking cartoon. You think I wasn’t bullied and assaulted for being trans as a kid in school? I fucking was mercilessly right from primary (elementary) to high school. I was treated like shit because I did not conform to the ideals society has for a straight cis man.
But here is the thing, unlike straight cis men who have some representation if they are feminine. I’m thinking Ron Stoppable in Kim Possible in this instance, cos that was on TV when I was in school. I as a trans kid had NO fucking representation. I had NOTHING to tell me I was normal. NOTHING that showed my classmates there were people like me and to normalise that idea. Not in age appropriate media anyway.
Trans representation was largely in media targeted at older audiences and it almost always painted us as the the butt of the joke. I’m thinking Chandler’s Dad in Friends for example.
And fast forward to 2023, and that lack of representation of trans people in age appropriate media for kids remains very much true. Meanwhile straight cis male kids have their fucking pick when it comes to characters who represent them. Whether it is a male with feminine interests to your stereotypical cis het male.
Also maybe if you really were interested in the fucking harm being caused right now to straight cis males who present feminine, maybe your focus should be on bills in states like Tennessee and Texas and other states right now targeting drag but are very vague in their terminology that they could target almost anyone who presents in a gender non-conforming fashion in public.
That is the shit that fucking causes harm. Not trans people desperately trying to find any representation in media that consistently fails to fucking represent them.
And while I am now an adult and for media targeted at people my age there is a fair bit more positive trans rep. That still remains untrue for trans kids growing up right now, who are growing up in a world presently that is increasingly fucking hostile to their existence.
You want to play the fucking oppression contest, then lets fucking play. Straight cis men, regardless of walk of life are represented in every bit of media at this point from children’s media to adult media. Meanwhile the same for trans people cannot be said.
NO ONE is trying the erode the rights of straight cis men. Those trying to ban things like drag right now are doing so because they have inexplicably linked drag and crossdressing with trans people, maybe cos some trans people have used this as a means to express themselves before figuring themselves out. But the target of these bills is “protecting kids from the gay and trans agenda”. And yes, feminine straight cis men do evidently get caught in that fucking crossfire.
But right now, in that crossfire you have now decided to pick up a gun and you are firing at trans people.
The majority of trans people support gender non-conformity, the majority of trans people will see a real life person acting in a gender non-conforming fashion and not bat an eyelid. The majority of trans people, support people expressing their gender however they wish.
The side you are presently holding a gun for doesn’t. And that is not me saying you support Republican ideologies or those pushing similar ideals. This is me saying, turn around because the real fucking enemy is behind you.
You cannot blame the hatred and bigotry of others though on trans people having a theory related to a cartoon and desperately trying to seek representation in a place there is yet to be any. Generally, all the hate and discrimination targeted at cis het males who happen to be feminine is rooted in misogyny, homophobia and transphobia. So rather than attacking other groups who are likewise victims and not only victims but the intended targets of that same systemic oppression, maybe fight that systemic oppression.
NOTE: Some people may highlight The Owl House as now providing trans representation given the non-binary characters in the show. And as amazing as the show is, it is done in such a way that for younger audiences the fact Raine is non-binary could go over the heads of young viewers. Once again, the other non-binary character in the show is only noticeable cos of their nails being painted like a pride flag for their particular gender identity. Younger viewers might not have that knowledge of pride flags yet and it will likely once again go over their heads.
The Owl House is an AMAZING show and Dana Terrace has done an amazing job at progressing LGBT+ rep with her show. But through no fault of her own it is still sadly lacking in places, particularly on the trans front I’d argue.

German MPs will consider a government plan that would make it easier to legally change genders. German lawmakers are expected to vote on Friday on legislation that would make it easier for transgender, intersex and nonbinary people to legally change their name and gender. The "self-determination bill" would allow adults to change their name and gender at registry offices. The change would replace the existing "transsexual law" and mean that individuals would no longer need to present a medical certificate or obtain expert opinions to change gender, the German justice ministry said. Germany’s top court has struck down other parts of that 1980 law that required transgender people to get divorced and sterilised and to undergo gender-transition surgery. Under the new legislation, adults would need to notify registry offices three months before making a change to their name and gender. They would have to wait one year before a new change. Minors 14 years and older would be able to change their name and gender with the approval of their parents or guardians. In the case of children younger than 14, parents or guardians would have to make registry office applications on their behalf. The new bill does not involve any revisions to Germany’s rules for gender-transition surgery. It also provides for operators of gyms and changing rooms for women to continue to decide who has access.
