poor leftovers!reader being doomed no matter which way you would decide to end the fic — with her “safe” with the Prices again, or back under Simon’s thumb :(

i've always had this obsession with predetermined outcomes. and not like "oh this is your destiny," but as in, this is what you are. that no matter how hard you try to rage and change, a rabbit will always be a rabbit no matter how much you try to sharpen your teeth.

same thing for reader in leftovers. her outcome was predetermined. she was always going to end up like this. there is no other universe where she does not become this.

i think i like it so much because you always have people wanting to change it. i've gotten a fair amount of comments of people asking about "what ifs." what happens if she ended up like this instead. and simply, those universes don't exist. the ending is always the same. it never changes.

it's honestly really cathartic to write (despite the comments asking me to STILL expand on something that was only supposed to be a one shot lmao) because i feel like everyone expects a happy ending. people want a happy ending. they are angry when they don't get it. there is simply no iteration of the story where things work out the way they want it to. it's a nice reminder to everyone, i think.

anyway idk if this was even a good response to your ask i just have a lot of feelings about this story so (: she was doomed either way. always has been.
