big masterpost of fun things to do this summer
hi :) i like to make a big list of things i want to do each summer, and i thought i'd share all the resources i collected this year with y'all in case you want to do any of these things too <3
learn a new language. 🦜
i've collected a bunch of resources for french, korean, and mandarin so i'll be making separate posts for those languages. but here's some of my favourite resources - most of them are based off of krashen’s comprehensible input theory which is why they are fun resources:
french: free grammar lessons and quizzes for all levels, watch french tv, read manga in french, a drive full of french books, a bunch of french culture podcasts, a list of french youtubers
korean: anki grammar decks for all levels, super in depth grammar explanations up to advanced level, a bunch of resources, reddit’s ultimate beginner’s thread, read korean webtoon, talk to me in korean
mandarin: a bunch of anki decks, grammar gamified, reading practice, chinese reading world, mandarin bean grammar points
japanese: core 2000 words anki deck, grammar gamified on renshuu
spanish: language transfer for spanish!
learn to draw. 🎨
this is more just a collection of art related resources. hope they help!
proko’s art library, a bunch of sketching and fundamental tutorials
the complete famous artists course
collection of art books and resources
alphonso dunn’s youtube channel
learn guitar. 🎸
i got a guitar last summer on a whim and have been having a really fun time learning it! here’s the main resource i’ve been using.
learn jazz piano. 🎹
similarly jazz piano is something i’ve wanted to get into for a while + improv. this person’s youtube channel is very cool!
write something and put it out into the world! ✍
i love to write and it took me a while to learn how to submit stuff to journals. hope these help you!
a bunch of resources on how to submit to journals
how to submit to literary magazines by doretta lau
publishing 101
chillsubs, an easy way to find journals to submit to
make your own video games. 🎮
by now if you follow me you know i love to make twine games. here are a couple of cool engines you can use for free!
twine, a text based engine
love
renpy or visual novel resources
bitsy
take a free online course. 🧠
coursera has a lot of options, which i really like. i took Yale’s the science of well being a few years ago and it was great!
make your own music or learn how audio software works. 🎵
audionodes is a cool free browser software that lets you do this without downloading anything!
learn about personal finance. 💵
i feel like it’s hard to devote proper time to learning about personal finance so a lot of us rely on learning as we go, but there are some good resources and tools online that are quick and easy when you have 5-30 min to spare!
PBS Two Cents youtube short vids about personal finance
wealthsimple personal finance 101 (short videos. nicholas braun is in them for some reason)
mint - free budgeting and goals software
edspira - more technical side of finance, accounting, etc youtube channel

Anyone have any good resources for learning Brazilian Portuguese? Because I have Duolingo and it's helped somewhat, but 1. it uses AI and I don't love that and 2. it doesn't help THAT much. I don't feel like I've progressed as much as I'd have liked to by now.
I really want to actually commit to learning, I always give up on new skills like this and this is the longest I've really stuck with any language. Sunk cost and all. But resources would really help!
I'm looking for programs, courses, videos, etc. Also, if any of y'all have media reccomendations like TV shows or movies to watch, I've heard those are super helpful, so I'd love to hear about those too! I watch a lot of Portuguese-speaking streamers on QSMP but I'd love some other media as well ^w^
Thank you all so much <3 <3 <3

Nicolas Gatien made an excellent instructional video on creating your own "antinet" or analog zettelkasten. (Follow his channel, too. He's aiming for 1000 & currently has just 26 to go!) Awesome learning tool/note taking system. I kinda like this better than the commonplace book strategy. Well, I guess this is like a commonplace book, but unbound & sortable.

Six-Level Book & 5,000+ Anki Flashcards by ADROS VERSE EDUCATION
To Learn & Retain Languages with Spaced Repetition
Remember all the times that you learned something just to forget it when you get rusty after not practicing for a while? Now imagine that there is some way to remind yourself of only the things that you are about to forget before you forget them, without boring yourself with the ones that you have already memorized. You may think that this would be convenient but also impossible, when in fact, it is possible using spaced repetition. Spaced repetition is a method of learning new material and then reviewing and memorizing that material over spaced intervals. Spaced repetition is often carried out using flashcards. The cards that you memorize successfully (i.e., easy material) will be reviewed less often, whereas the cards that you stumble over and struggle to memorize (i.e., hard material) will be shown more often.
In essence, spaced repetition is an enhancement of the old technique of learning by flashcards. Flashcards rely on cramming the material into the learner’s memory regardless of how many times the learner successfully memorizes the material. This makes the learning process inefficient and exhausting. Spaced repetition addresses this flaw by presenting the material to the learner with a frequency that is inversely proportional to his or her ability to memorize it. This way, the learner will ideally be presented with the learned material right before he or she is about to forget it. As you can guess, this technique comes in handy when used to learn new vocabulary.
Tumblr media
Specially designed as a fun, practical, and accessible path to mastering the language through spaced repetition, this ultimate package offers readers of all backgrounds a common-sense and enjoyable way of building their vocabulary and learning faster.
For each language, ADROS VERSE EDUCATION provide two products that go hand-in-hand:
Book: covering six graduating levels from beginner to fluent, provides an intuitive path to effortlessly improving your language comprehension, memory, and grammar skills.
Anki Deck: Featuring an incredible collection of 5,000+ Anki Flashcards Deck that you can use independently or hand-in-hand with the book, and contains audio elements to help you pronounce words and use grammar like a native speaker.

I’m a mix of emotions.
I feel like a childhood of potential excellence was stolen from me. So, I’m on a slow path to trying to go back to school. Years of struggling with math made me realize something. Especially as someone with an active imagination.
There was discussions several moons ago about aphantasia. People were having to explain to others what they could mentally see or could not see. This has never been my experience. I can hear voices, see people, change their clothes, manipulate shapes all in my mind. The ONLY thing I could never do that with, is literally numbers.
I never understood mental calculation, or how people didn’t feel like they were sweating bullets every time they had to do those timed math quizzes. I’d panic every time, stare at the page and shamefully do my best.
On a whim, I started playing with a soroban style abacus. I have included an image.
Tumblr media
They look like this.
I found a few YouTube videos years ago, but figured it was something I couldn’t really handle, but in recent years there’s been several channels teaching how to use it, the basic calculations.
I got the hang of it easily enough, but I’d seen children playing with their hands and their eyes closed calculating.
All these years, dreaming up dragons, or mages, or battles. I could finally actually see calculation taking place. I’m nowhere near as good at it yet, but I seriously want to cry. I’ve never been formally diagnosed with dyscalculia, and I don’t even know why I’m posting thing, I hope someone with same issue sees it and tries. But I feel like people like us are abandoned, when the solutions could be so simple. It honestly hurts.
The answer was so simple. Numbers look like smudges, or wobbly, but I could always see shapes.
I don’t think this is a solution for everyone, but it was for me. I actually am starting to gain enough confidence to study more math, which hopefully translates into better opportunities for myself. Good luck to anyone who finds this post and it helps as well. Just wanted to share my story.

Unexpected Guests Chapter Ten, Act Two: Page 14
First / Previous / Next (coming soon)
Gaster offers his counterargument, and a counterattack--and this time lands a hit....
That panel with Alphys protecting Frisk is a moment I've looked forward to drawing for a very long time! Her having electricity magic isn't entirely headcanon--she uses it to block one of Flowey's attacks when he captures everyone--but it's something I don't see used nearly often enough and it was fun to bring in :>
I'll try to have the next update done for Mar. 28th! Keep an eye out!
Wingdings translation under the cut:
Panel 2: "NO. I CANNOT YIELD."
