If colors are just different wavelengths of light, how can paints be different colors?
If colors are just different wavelengths of light, how can paints be different colors?
I learned this today. To make different colored paints, you need to add different materials for color pigments because different particles reflect different wavelengths of light. It seems obvious now that I know it. Our eyes pick up reflected light using photoreceptors that are sensitive to different wavelengths. These then travel to our brain, which associates them with a color. For example,…

That’s the best I can do! It’s impossible to exceed that! That’s it, I’m at my best!.. Is it really the case? Do we really know the limits? When I say really, I mean is it really independent from our own thoughts? Or is it the limit because we code it like that, we code it inline with “that’s fine” mood? How do we decide that better is or is not possible, or do we decide at all? Why do we keep searching for boundaries? Why are we constantly seeking an OK point?... This picture had won the 'World Press Photo of the Year' for 1986. The then 13 year Columbian girl, Omayra Sánchez was killed in Armero, Tolima, by the 1985 eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. After a lahar demolished her home, Omayra was pinned beneath the debris of her house, where she remained trapped in water for three days. Lacking the surgical equipment to save her from the effects of an amputation, the doctors present agreed that it would be more humane to let her die. In all, Omayra suffered for nearly three nights (roughly 60 hours) before she died from exposure, most likely from gangrene or hypothermia. ° How did I come across this? Well, the task today led me to it and now I am a little shaken by what I read and watched. TASK #40: READ A SHORT STORY #Shufflemylife: Find a short story with a title that intrigues you, and read it. ° So I head to google all excited to read a new story which could be of anything.Typed 'Best short stories to read online', clicked on search, I got attracted to the first link (https://www.bookbub.com/blog/2016/02/04/free-short-stories-online) and then my eyes just fell on "And of clay we are created" by Isabel Allende. I thought it would be a spiritual book where Humans would be compared as clay based instead of sand based. But little did I know that this story will haunt me for days now!!! [P.S: On a separate note though I love to read autobiogrpahies or books that are based on real life events so I am glad I came across this. The short story was beautiful and so was the girl who had so much courage at such a young age.] Link to the full news cover on the tragedy: https://youtu.be/pahbPnP1Jig #Learnedtoday #Shuffleitright #Somanystoriesunheard #Cantshakeitoff #Hereyeshaunt #Hopesheisinabetterplace

I am the kind of person that has to plan every little detail about new projects.
What I finally understood and implemented today is that sometimes, especially in my case, you have to make the dive and just jump in.
Because no planning will solve every problem and prepare you for the harsh truths of reality.

Can the Mona Lisa ever be sold?
Can the Mona Lisa ever be sold?
I learned this today. The Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci, can never be sold because it is owned by the people of France. Leonard da Vinci was Italian, so why is his most famous painting owned by the French people and displayed in France? Well, to make a long story short, because he died in France. Da Vinci was commissioned to paint Lisa, the wife of wealthy merchant Francesco del Giocondo, and…

today, i learned
I learned that determination and ambition will get you what you want. If you aren't committed enough to reach for your goal, then you aren't worthy of the reward.

How quickly are the continents moving apart?
How quickly are the continents moving apart?
I learned this today. Our continents are moving apart at a rate of 2.5 cm every year. Continental drift, now known as plate tectonics, is taught in schools as accepted theory, but it wasn’t always like that. The theory that continents move was first put forward by Abraham Ortelius in 1596. He looked at maps (not as accurate as modern maps by any means – in fact, Australia and large parts of…
