As a reddit refugee on Tumblr.com, I've really been enjoying the thoughtful and sincere discourse on Barbie (2023). Even posts that levy criticism seem to do so in good faith and with care for the larger message as a whole. It has felt indulgent to read paragraphs upon paragraphs on femininity, patriarchy, girlhood, aging, and the difficult beauty in finding common ground in our differences...

So, out of curiosity, I popped over to Reddit on browser to see what redditors were saying about Barbie. Short, quippy acerbic comments like "wow, you know it's bad when Ken overshadows your Barbie movie" and "Ken was the only relatable character" and other "revelations" focusing on the man-hating messaging of the film overwhelmed the discussion threads.

I forgot. I forgot how exhausting that platform was. How, despite all its left leaning dogma, it is still dominated by its target males-twelve-to-twenty-four demographic, which rewards shallow, short takes that rage bait and put the onus on the reader to make the good-faith argument, and you spiral, and spiral, and spiral.

In a way, a perfect microcosm of exactly what Barbie (2023) is criticizing. But those redditors will never see that. And it's no one's job to make them see it. I just forgot how quickly comments like those would weigh me down and sit in the back of my mind, waiting for a quiet moment to irritate me all over again.

I guess, all this to say, I love Barbie talk on this hellsite.

I have this HC about Gaius and his “God King Mode”. Y’all let me cook for a moment, you can call me delusional later but let me cook, it’s good, I promise 🥺

I believe they every Esper can enter “God Mode” or “God King Mode”. Allow me to explain. So far, Gaius is the only one who can enter this mode which has led me to believe that it’s a selective ability, not now limiting. Gaius is only able to enter this mode because he has the training to do so. He achieved such a task through his military training. His skills was sharpened and refined that when he did transform, it was easy for him to maintain and understand. He was almost “ready” to receive his powers when he was blessed with them. So it made sense that once triggered, he was able to enter “God King Mode” and not be affected by it. But rather, benefiting from it almost. He’s grown so accustomed to his abilities and this new mode that he doesn’t even have to try anymore, it just manifests when he needs it and disappears without a second thought. That’s how well trained he is with his Esper ability, that’s how “trusting” he is of his powers. Allowing it to take over, but still retaining control. Whilst anyone else who tries, they’ll lose their sanity, they’ll injure themselves, or maybe even kill themselves. But it’s not impossible, it’s just that nose Espers won’t go through the tedious training and hours Gaius had to go through. Some would try and cheat around it, others might try but give up after a while since the task requires them to often times try and “kill themselves” to be able to achieve such unlimited energy. And most, are complacent with the level they have now.

But it’s not impossible as I’ve said. Espers can still enter this “Sub God Mode” but it’s no where even remotely on par with Gaius “God Mode” this Sub mode is like a fraction of what their “God Mode” could be. Like a small taste of the power they could have. And those that enter the Sub mode, are left crippled cause it was physically straining. Crippled so badly that even trying so much as to move around is a chore. They can recover, but at the same time, it’s a long road.

I haven't been able to write anything everything comes out kind of wrong and feels wrong and doesn't seem to make sense, and maybe that's because I'm trying to put my experiences into the characters and nothing has fit the way I like it and it's been pissing me off I don't really know what's going on I think I'm just tired, but I don't know exactly what for either. having conflicting feelings is exhausting too, so maybe that's it at some point I will be able to write something and not feel ashamed and post it here or draw something too who knows let's follow the next chapters ahaha

Katana had woken up to the harsh truth beating in her spark. She'd refused to even consider it as a possibility, but now, laying awake in the middle of the night, she knew. She had let her guard down, slowly but steadily, day by day, and now she had to pay for it.

She was starting to have feelings for Heatwave, but she could never let him know.

The femme got up from her berth and made her way out of the medbay and through the firehouse, keeping her movements quiet. The sunrise was still a few hours away.

She was met by cool night air when she arrived on the roof. She took a few steps away from the door and sat down, crossing her legs and taking out a cube of energon. Allowing her mouthplate to draw back, she took a sip and looked up at the stars twinkling above.

How could she have let this happen?

I haven't done this in MONTHS, but last night my bestie and I pulled an all-nighter just talking about life, and these are literally the kind of conversations that make me grateful to be alive.
