Dola!
Rewatched Laputa: Castle in the Sky and I adore Dola’s character so, so much.
We first see her when she and her crew storm an airship— she’s after Sheeta’s crystal necklace. Sheeta tries to escape (from Muska, mainly) out the window but then she slips and Dola screams, “MY CRYSTAL!” as the girl falls presumably to her death. While this is hilarious, Dola knows about the powers of the crystal so she knew Sheeta would survive. (Probably!)
The sky pirate mother and her gang then invade Pazu’s hometown, searching for Sheeta and her crystal. Honestly, if it came down to being capture by the sky pirates or Muska and the military… I’d go with the pirates. At least they’re funnier.
Sheeta does eventually return to Muska’s clutches. Dola and Co agree to help Pazu save Sheeta— I mean, the crystal. All Dola cares about is the crystal! But then Sheeta’s crystal gets lost and Dola decides both kids can join her crew… totally for Dola’s crew’s benefit and not for their own protection.
Dola lends Sheeta some clothes, and she discusses Sheeta and Pazu with her husband. (Who is also just totally chill about letting these two kids onboard!) But Dola isn’t going soft— not at all! She hears the kids talking through the pipes about how they might need to leave the pirates or find Laputa on their own… and she just smiles. Sheeta and Pazu are not prisoners.
When the pirates believe Pazu and Sheeta have perished at Laputa, they’re all devastated. But then they realise the kids survived and they’re so happy. Dola gives Sheeta a huge hug and mourns the loss of Sheeta’s pigtails. (A picture of a younger Dola reveals she also had pigtails in the past!)
I know Pazu and Sheeta part ways with the pirates at the end of the movie, but I’m just going to pretend they met up again later on. The pirates can all retire and work on Sheeta’s farm.

Put you on; Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Azumi Inoue) J-pop
Animator Hayao Miyazaki's favorite pattern. A girl falling from the sky, a boy trying to rescue the girl... You saw it in "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro". Azumi Inoue suited the Miyazaki anime of this period. However, she is not a singer that can be described only by that.
Joe Hisaishi was in charge of most of the music for Studio Ghibli works such as Miyazaki animation and Takahata animation. He's a music craftsman, and it's no surprise that he's producing solid, high-level movie music.
君をのせて:天空の城ラピュタ(井上あずみ)J-pop
