Mischievous and prankster Xie Lian is one of the best Xie Lian. Don't change my mind.

He really is out there poisoning other gods with his food that is so terrible he weaponized it. He will keep up the pretence of Hua Cheng being Lang Ying for the bit and will also laugh about it because what else was he supposed to do ? Not do that ? Come on now.

He will tell My Qing to his face what he thinks of him, knowing he is hiding his identity from him.

He will make his password :"just recite the ethic sultras a thousand times" so that other people would be confused and maybe actually recite it.

He is such a kind person but he also will have fun at other people's expenses and you know what ? I love that for him

Poisonous Grief

There are a lot of really fucked up things that happen in TGCF, but there’s one chain of events in particular that really just makes me sad. We like to talk a lot about the Human Face Disease, but I find it equally horrifying and sad that Lang Ying used his son as the source of the curse upon Xianle, desecrating both his body and soul in the process. Xie Lian talks about how the victims of the disease are innocents, and the first innocent to suffer is Lang Ying’s son. His son is described as being only two or three years old at his time of death. Shortly after the Human Face Disease emerges, Xie Lian and co. find the gravesite of Lang Ying’s son. Not only does it smell so rancid and rotten as to make many of those present vomit, it’s also swollen up so much that nevermind looking like a child’s body, it doesn’t look human at all! Lang Ying himself likely never saw what the curse did to his son’s body, but choosing to use his remains as the anchor for a curse speaks volumes as to his mental state and priorities at the time.

And it doesn’t get better. We all know what happens to Lang Ying in the end; he dies of Human Face Disease after either allowing or asking Bai Wuxiang to plant the resentful souls of his wife and child within him. But why is his son a resentful spirit? The spirits used in the Human Face Disease have strong animosity towards Xianle, but Lang Ying’s son was a toddler. He wasn’t old enough to know things like the difference between Yong’an and Xianle, why there was no food or water, or what it means to hate. His son lingers as a resentful spirit because, as Xie Lian explains, there’s a stage where the souls of the departed are confused and easily influenced by the sentiments of their families and lovers. Lang Ying’s resentment is so great as to twist his own child into a resentful spirit, not old enough to know right or wrong, but made to hate when he never knew how to in life.

And Lang Ying continues this desecration by forcing his son(and wife) to remain in this state, plastering the whole of his newly-obtained palace with defensive arrays to force his wife and son to remain with him, rather than depart and hopefully find peace. He is completely unable to let go of them, perverting the cycle of life and death by forcing them to linger. It is also very, very, super amazingly fucked up. Jesus Christ Lang Ying, your child is dead and yet you are somehow, posthumously, the worst father in the entire novel.

TGCF donghua Season 2, Episode 3 thoughts

Screaming through my tears of happiness. Spoilers under the cut (also book/story spoilers, for folks just coming in from the donghua).

We may only get him for a minute or two BUT I LOVE ALL THE PRECIOUS SECONDS OF YIN YU, MY BELOVED T-T The second he started talking I had to pause to scream adlkjaldaj

I also love how obvious this is. It's a nice way to set up for the audience "yeah, something's fishy here and it's not just He Xuan". I'm just imagining Hua Cheng like taking Yin Yu's bandages off and unrolling his sleeve to properly set the scene for Xie Lian to see the shackle alkdjalj Cause it'd be funny. Yin Yu, tiredly, "Yes, Hua Chengzu, whatever you want, Hua Chengzu..."

They are so cute. I love them so much.

I imagine a bajillion people have said this but this is very funny as a comparison to Beast giving Beauty the library in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Hua Cheng knows what makes his gege happy: a fully stocked armory. Xie Lian's pose is so adorable T-T "I really do" indeeeed. Their back and forth kills me T-T

I also love the parallel stuff with Lang Ying and Hua Cheng, setting up for Hua Cheng to later impersonate him. I know part of it is just twigging Xie Lian's memory of Hong-Hong-er, but the first time it happens (with Lang Ying's silhouette after dropping the bandages fading into Hua Cheng's face in the present), I think it's a clear set-up for the later plot of Hua Cheng pretending to be him.

Also Ruoye and Xie Lian being badass: I am always here for it.

Qi Rong getting a second of reference. I'm so excited to see how he's handled, terrible man that he is, love him.

Wind Master was also really funny, "I never want to go on patrols with you ever again!" aldkjaldja He's so mad aldkjaldaj

Wonderful episode. I cried. I screamed (no literally I had to pause and make myself be quiet alkdjaldja). E-Ming's chirping T-T Yin Yu T-T Hualian. So adorable.

Random Songs that remind me of MXTX characters

Smooth by Santana (feat. Rob Thomas) reminds me of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian because of the lines that say

"And if you said, "This life ain't good enough" (Implying Xie Lian says that) I would give my world to lift you up I could change my life to better suit your mood (yeah) Because you're so smooth" (The rest of the line being Hua Cheng)

Something about that line just fits them perfectly to me (Note that I only have read up to the end of book 2 lol)

2. Government Hooker by Lady Gaga reminds me of Hua Cheng because you cannot tell me otherwise that is is not a Lady Gaga or Britney Spears fan

3. Smooth Operator by Sade reminds me of Xie Lian but it is directed to Hua Cheng some way (I do not know why, I do not make the rules though)

4. I Won't Say (I'm In Love) in Hercules the Disney movie reminds me of Shi Qingxuan. She would sing her heart out to this and nail it. (The message is probably directed to either FengQing or Xie Lian.)

(She would also sing Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara to Lang Ying. He is probably scared by the singing.)

5. Noel's Lament in Ride the Cyclone is also Shi Qingxuan. Moving on!

6. Sex With a Ghost by Teddy Hyde is, you guessed it, Hualian. Cause like- never mind...

7. Tongues and Teeth by The Crane Wives reminds me of Beefleaf or FengQing

8. 1812 Overture Op. 49 TH 49 by Tchaikovsky reminds me of Mobei-Jun I just know that that man listens to classical music and SQH is sick of it. (SQH actually likes hearing it.)

9. Mess is Mine by Vance Joy reminds me of Hualian. Imagine it as Hua Cheng comforting Xie Lian, or even vice versa.

10. Walk You Home by Sir Chloe reminds me of Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe or even Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan. (Shen Qingqiu and Yu Qingyuan are the ones asking to walk the others home aka comforting Luo Binghe and Shen Jiu.

11. Let It Go in Frozen reminds me of Shang Qinghua because of him possibly poking fun at Mobei-Jun (Mobei-Jun doesn't understand what Frozen is.)

12. Literally any vocaloid song reminds me of Shang Qinghua.

Wait, okay. I'm on chapter 29, book 3. So far we have, in the past, one guy named Lang Ying, plus little Honghonger with his face covered in bandages and his one obsidian eye. And in the future we have that one little kid covered in bandages with the scars of that epidemic very endemic to the past kingdom of Xianle, resembling a lot that kid the Crown Prince saved once upon a time, to whom Xie Lian also gave the name Lang Ying. And Hua Cheng with his one eye and his devotion to His Highness. I'm not saying they're all the same person but...

Coincidences? I don't think so. But at this point I have no idea what it all means. Let's just add this to my theory board and we'll come back to it later.

this lang ying guy scares me so much but i know it's from his shear determination (as xie lian mentions) but i think the comparison is not right, xie lian was determined he's gonna do well for 'his' people while lang ying even if he's doing it for his people, his driving power is seeking justice (in a vengeful way) with literally nothing to lose (i feel so bad for him ngl) to the point he can challenge a MARTIAL god and not back down even after the knowledge that he's stronger than him but he seek his revenge in a very selfish way like I get it that you have people on your side so why not work alongside them instead of sacrificing them for your own goals ?

I wanted to cheat and include Guoshi Fangxin but I had to make choices to fit more characters.
