i think we should utilize doppelgängers as a horror trope more often. it installs such a nauseating primal sense of dread. its like something instinctual and ancient in your body telling you something is very, very wrong.
#doppelgängers#doppelgangers#doppelganger#horrorcore#lake mungo#lake mungo has a great example of this. the movie is so slow burn that when THAT SCENE happens its so intense#the first time i watched it it surprised me so bad i had to pause because i fucking started crying#and its not that scary re-watching it; but its the IMPLICATION that makes it scary#it really is like bone-deep; like your ancestors are trying to warn you from beyond the grave#its like the fear you get when you look in the mirror too long and you start to fear your reflection isn't actually you anymore#us; black swan; and possessor are all movies that hit that sweet spot of lovecraftian-esque horror#*
