have you seen the homecoming? do give us mere mortals a blow by blow if you can! spoilers allowed

(i have a fever, so i apologise in advance if the following text turns out to be chaotic. if you want to know anything else, or that's not what you had in mind, just message me) 

blow by blow you say? alright then. before you enter the room you can already hear "a night in tunisia". the doors open and the room's filled with smoke. get used to the haze. the venue's very small, so no matter where you're seated, it's as if you're right in the heart of it all. i was fortunate enough to get a ticket for the third row, so when one of the actors stepped to the edge of the stage, there couldn't have been more than two meters between us. jared appears right at the start, showcasing his comedic talent and getting the first laughs. i hadn't read pinter's play before and went in thinking it was going to be a serious and dark affair, but no, there's sick humour in it, too, and the whole cast has impeccable timing. the image of jh running around in a nightgown and socks with hair sticking up will stay with me forever. (hollywood, please cast him in some well-written comedy, i'm begging...) the second act begin's with "a toujours" and the men light up cigars. later on ruth, the only female character, puts on "fallin'" on the record player.       

jared's transformation into a limping, elderly man in his seventies is impressive. he's brilliantly ambiguous. in the play max is a brutal, repulsive patriarch, yet jared manages to evoke sympathy for the character. it must be a trick. you actually feel for this fading, slightly demented bastard. the old man is desperately trying to prove he's still got some power, but it's not working. no one's afraid of him. he's both fragile and despicable. and by the end, he's utterly, utterly pathetic. it's delicious. 

ps the guy is huge in real life! he towers over everyone and his face is surprisingly large? what a polar bear he's become. 

fingers crossed young vic will release a recording in the future, and you'll be able to see it. i'm certain they have to film at least one version for the archives. for now, here's the pdf copy of the play

As you can see, the boat media obsession has been strong lately! While lighting is probably the biggest factor when it comes to which screencaps I think are best for icons, sometimes I like to challenge myself - Goodsir (bearded man with hair, sorry, Flint), Gates (bald man with muttonchops on the bottom row) and Fitzjames in the centre were all screencaps I chose because, while I liked the person's expression, the lighting posted a challenge to correct. I'm especially pleased with Goodsir because that was hard! So many adjustment layers there! I also spend way too much time zoomed in to 500%, colouring in tiny costume details like Eleanor's necklace (top right) or Billy's bracelet (top centre).

Would you look at that! My thematically-inappropriate- as-always Christmas card to @laissezferre arrived only a month late this year XD. (I’d been expecting it to land closer to IDK, Easter - last year’s had taken forever to get to Hana - because who even knows how our postal service works anymore). I’d have happily continued drawing actor cards accompanied by horrible puns, only the Endurance’s discovery was probably the most exciting news to come out of last year and I had to do something about it. (Mind you, I’d planned on a bad pun centered on the name for when it finally landed, only it foiled my plans by arriving much earlier than anticipated). Sakura Pigma Micron pens, fountain pen inks (Wearingeul World Literature Demian [Lost] and Yuyi Alfoncine), white Sakura Jelly Roll pen, and bleach on Daler Rowney smooth heavyweight paper (135lb). A5 size. I swear, Demian [Lost] is an insanely weird ink that changes hues as it pleases, you wouldn’t think it was all the same ink.

I love giffing older media because it's so clean! as long as the source was well lit and well digitised, I generally just do a quick levels, sharpness, and saturation adjustment, and that's it. most of the gifs in my great expectations (1946) gifset barely needed editing at all, and the only colour tweak I made to my critters edit was to pull down the reds a fraction and bump up the blue of ug's eyes.

the terror was a challenge at first, especially the interior scenes, but it's so satisfying to get it looking pretty! I always feel like I'm powerwashing them. sorry goodsir. for interiors I like to keep a slight red tint in the darkest parts of the image because it just doesn't look right to me if I make them too clean and clinical.

the palace interiors in foundation season one broke my HEART!! so much heavy yellow colour grading and constant candlelight flickering on the walls! I ended up leaning into the same trick from the terror and pushing a slight red/purple hue into the shadows. well-lit exterior scenes were very fun to colour and play around with though.

season two was far easier to colour, mainly because the cleons went outside and touched grass a lot more, but even my beloathed candlelit scenes had a lot less yellow-green weirdness going on. giffing dusk is kind of a cheat code anyway because his hair is a walking white balance colour card :}
