every time i start to feel like i'm deluding myself about byler happening, i give myself a reality check using the classic 'if they were all straight' scenario, and then i stop doubting. if everything remained the same--same relationships, same dynamics with friends--with the only difference in the show being that Will was a girl, it's almost painfully obvious. And because all a m/f couple has to do is be in the vicinity of each other to get shipped, byler probably would have been more popular even in the earlier seasons.

Mike spending an entire season right by his girl best friend's side, desperate to help and fighting to stay near her as she slowly gets possessed. Then at the end of it all he gives her a whole speech crying and saying that choosing to be friends with her was the best thing he's ever done? I guarantee you even with milkvan developing a bunch of people would have jumped on the byler train, and more others would be thinking that Mike and Willow or whatever would eventually get together later on, with warring opinions on who the better ship is.

Mike neglecting his girl best friend who is now hinted to have a crush on him in s3 while trying to get over being kidnapped and everything she went through? Spending all his time with Eleven even though byler had just been so close the season prior. There's no way at least some ppl wouldn't be thinking romance. The whole 'Mike's probably repressing his feelings and pushing Will away because he's scared' idea that a lot of bylers believe suddenly wouldn't be a reach anymore if it was a straight pairing.

Sectioning the two of them off to have their little cali romance all the while hinting at serious relationship troubles and conflicting character arcs for Mike and Eleven. Meanwhile the shrouded love confession from 'Willow', the obvious flirting. You can't look me in the eyes and tell me that people wouldn't be losing their shit during the entire apology scene if Will was a girl. The flirty smiles, the "I didn't say it." "You didn't have to.", the intimacy of his apology to 'Willow' in comparison to the apology from Mike to Lucas in s1. Along with all of the other scenes where Mike is clearly different with 'Willow' compared to the rest of his friends, he's always near her, etc.

Atp I feel like the general consensus would be that they're setting up a Melvin breakup and Byler endgame. Mike putting his hand on Willow's shoulder and promising they'll get through this together while literally showing Midleven crashing and burning in the same scene? In one of the final scenes? You're gonna tell me that people wouldn't be thinking along the lines of romance, with the love triangle pointing in byler's favor?

Mike's 'love' confession would come across as the lie that it was and a lot of people would probably be saying that Mike is not confronting his true feelings. They would be drawing the same comaprisons we are--that it didn't even work and the gates opened, that his (girl) best friend had to tell him and guide him to confess to Eleven, with them finally as close as they were around s2 again and Melvin not even really getting back together, with clear issues still present in the finale. The direction they are going to take things in s5 would become obvious without the straight goggles blinding people to some of the most obvious character and relationship arcs that have been done a million times.

The only difference would be the lack of struggle due to homophobia and would probably be more centered on Mike's inability to confront his feelings due to a fear of messing things up between himself and Will, along with losing el because he doesn't love her the way she wants him to, keeping to the core of his character in either scenario

You're gonna tell me that if people saw this and it was mike's girl best friend sitting next to him, they wouldn't be jumping at a romance arc between the two of them?

or his reaction to them being friends again, a smile and voice we've never seen used with any other character, noticably different?

the physical proximity, the fact that they seem equally flirtatious and affected by the other despite Will being the only one with confirmed feelings atp it's too obvious--if it were a girl sitting next to mike people would definitely be drawing some conclusions Anyway, byler endgame

appearance: i’m 5’4, have blonde long hair that i most of the time keep down or in a ponytail & green eyes. my skin is actually, not that pale. it used to be as white as a paper but honestly, it’s kinda ”rosy-pale”. i love clothes and dressing up. oh we’re going grocery shopping? wait gotta put on my meet gala dress first. jewelry. always. nothing beats a good necklace and a pair of golden hoops. my style is a little basic if you will. a pair of shorts and a sweater and boom, ready to go.

lover stuff: i’d say my love language is words of affection. a sweet word, nickname, compliment, phase or a simple i love you from ”the one” and i’m melting. quality time is also gold. you two would probably encounter each other while he’s working at family video. you walk in, looking for a new thing to watch… scanning through the aisles, and suddenly- there he is, standing right in front of you, commenting about how a pretty lady like yourself must be having trouble finding the man of- VIDEO… of their dreams.

you would laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole thing, but you’re into the flirting. you’d reply wittily, and he would probably be taken aback, keeping into consideration his lack of luck with the girls lately. by the time you leave and had purchased your video, steve would turn to robin with a face of… told you so.

it becomes a routine for you to visit the shop, flirt with the cute guy who keeps coming up to you who you soon learned was called steve, and then leave and wait for the next day. one of these days though, you actually broke the routine, walking in with a bouquet of flowers for the worker and asking him out to dinner. of course he said yes, eagerly at that.

your first date was actually quite a disaster. not like you would complain, but he was definitely rusty. at the end of the night, you left him with a kiss to the cheek, and a walk back to the car he planned to drop you off in. the rest of the trip he rambled about how soft your lips were, and he’s probably not gonna wash his face for years to come.

For real though. It feels like they spent the entire first 2 seasons hinting Stiles was Bi, him flirting with Danny being a big factor and him making jokes about making out with Scott etc. Then for some reason they just completly dropped the Bi angle and he was super straight for some reason. It felt like it was no longer the character feeling comfy and joking about his sexuality to more like the show was making fun of it. For a show that claims to take place in a world without any homophobia there was a serious lack of any other relationships that wasn't straight.

The only main gay character got completely written off because they didn't know what to do with him (like how do you not know what to do with Danny) his partner disappeared and then showed up again 3 seasons later.

But I dunno it felt like you were either straight or not important to the story.

QUESTION?

Does anyones brain do the same thing???

In my head my otps and ships don't stay the same age they age like us. the ones I've had since I was a smol have grown up and are now fully fledged adults.

Examples

KevEdd- Kevin and DD from Ed, edd n eddy, when the show came out in 1999 they were 12ish, in my head they are now 30ish?

Sterek- in season 1 Stiles was 17 and Derek was 19, my brain now thinks of them as 28 and 30?

Is this just my weird brain?

The pack we wanted in teen wolf, an easy guide.

ALPHA - Derek Hale(boy needs good things, also born werewolf and knows things)

2nd in command- Scott mccall (cause you can be the main character without being an entitled dick, also single boy needs to be single)

Emissaries- Stiles(also alpha mate and spark) & Lydia(banshee) the two of them as communication and planners would be terrifying. Lydia can be more brutal in her plans and often sometimes forgets thins, but pack mom Stiles and her husband Parrish always bring her back

BETAS- Erica, Boyd(3rd in charge I feel this goes without saying), Isaac, Jackson,Ethan, Cora, Kira(kitsune), Malia (coyote), Liam, Theo (redeemed), Mason, Corey, Parrish (hellhound), Hayden.

HUMAN ELEMENT- Allison (ex hunter) she is protective of her friends and pack. Makes sure any hunters they encounter follow the code.

Danny(hacker) finds information, gets paperwork for them, keeps them safe

Melissa(healer) looks after everyone

GUIDES - Peter hale (has no desire to be alpha again after the first time, wants the hale pack to grow and is happy to have a large family again.)

John Stilinski - will die fighting for the pack

Chris Argent - knows how to protect the pack and how to deal with enemies

SHIP ASK GAME

A while ago, both @needcake and @fireandiceland weren't deterred by my accidentally closed inbox and sent me questions for a ship ask game. Since I won't be able to get around to writing until friday, I'm taking the time to answer them now :)

Ship Questions

Both of you asked for SicIre & I am very thankful for the chance to gush about the kids. But I am always happy to gush about ANY of my kids.

Pre-Relationship 5: Did either of them try to resist their feelings?

Hetaverse: I can't imagine any scenario where that'd be the case. The fact that they don't share any close history, but have very similiar experiences would make understanding one another easier. Besides, they're both too old for this bullshit and probably welcome a clean slate with no complicated emotional history attached.

LFLS: Harry did! In a way. He doesn't think he's queer when the LFLS mainseries starts (July 2013), because when he went to a gay bar with Charlie and his friends, he wasn't very into it. Coupled with the fact that he dated women afterwards made him think that he's probably straight. (Instead of feeling very lost in life in general at this time and also simply being overwhelmed by Charlie's overeager friend circle. Twas a lot). He's so mad at himself when he catches himself admiring Michele. He thinks his attraction to other men is wanting to be what they are - perceiving them as better than him, having what he lacks. It infuriates him, because he thinks it makes him unprofessional, that it unwittingly gives Michele an advantage. So, Harry's out here, fuming, until Charlie suggests: "I think Vento's flirting with you." Harry:

The mere possibility of reciprocated interest makes the pieces fall into place. He's not just envying Michele - he's attracted to him. Ironically enough, Harry embraces this queer epiphany, because it puts control back into his hands. He can differentiate business and private life now. TLDR: Harry at first resists and then speedruns embracing his feelings for Michele.

Love 2: What are their primary love languages?

All of them. Or none of them. The concept of love languages does not appear useful to me in describing characters or even relationships. It always depends and SicIre does all of these things in one way or another. (Trying to think of another ship and even with something like Tarielle & Railey, which share one character, I'd say it's very different? For Tarielle it is Quality time in the sense of doing stuff together, for Railey it is Quality time in the sense of co-existing comfortably. Tarielle is Words of Affirmation from both sides, Railey is mostly one-sided because Tahir just isn't a petname user or a romantic flirt with Robert. Okay, this isn't about the English, I'll stop, but you catch my drift, right?)

3: Who uses cheesy pick-up lines?

Oh, Harry, he is all about that shit. Much more so in LFLS than the Hetaverse, but he has always banked more on people finding him funny than finding him charming. He can flirt like an absolute clown.

5: Who initiates kisses?

They're both mean kiss stealers. I think in LFLS in public, it's more Harry, simply because he feels a lot more comfortable in his skin when it comes to PDA than Michele, who's still very afraid of homophobic reactions and suffers from internalized homophobia. But in private or queer company (& more in general in the Hetaverse), Michele is probably worse than Harry. Harry loves to steal a kissie here and there, but if Michele is in A Mood™, he wants a kiss and a kiss and a kiss, on the lips, on the cheek, on the neck, another kiss harry, da mi basia mille deinde centum dein mille altera dein secunda centum deinde usque altera mille deinde centum.

Domestic Life 11: Who likes to dance?

Oh, they both love to dance! Harry is the better dancer out of the two and excels at couple dancing! (As well as the Irish dances that you're doing on your own/with a group)! Michele loves to let him lead and occassionally take the lead himself. Still, whether it's on a public event, out in the street during a music festival or at home on the terrace, Michele loves to let Harry sweep him around elegantly and passionately.
