¿Cuál es tu ambientación preferida cubito?
Muy buenas, anon. Me alegra de que me hagas esa pregunta *carraspea y se cruza de piernas en su sillón* Por dónde empiezo...
Tranquilos, que no voy a escribiros una tesis sobre ello, aunque bien podría. La ambientación es lo que más me lleva a rolear en un foro por mucho que me tachéis de tiradados, que también.
Mi ambientación favorita es la real con ciertos toques fantásticos. Esa que me permite utilizar todo cuanto conozco y domino y donde, además, tengo el plus de vivir una experiencia única con situaciones completamente irreales como superpoderes, grandes catástrofes naturales o avances científicos fumados, donde el entorno se vuelve ligeramente distinto y donde los personajes están condicionados a vivir de una manera diferente por unas circunstancias extraordinarias.
Resumiendo que soy un otaku acabado =P Aquí me entrarían tanto ambientaciones originales, como otras basadas en animes o videojuegos que me puedan gustar. Si está currado, entro de cabeza.
También guardo un rincón especial para la fantasía. ¿Quién no ha empezado roleando a un elfo de los bosques o un hábil montaraz? Siempre acabo cayendo en algún foro de fantasía para recordar aquellos tiempos donde era inocente y novato.
Y como extra, me permito añadir un pequeño comentario:
Las ambientaciones profundas o complejas, o donde el entorno está muy acotado como sucede con temáticas como: Cyberpunk, L5A, Vampiro, D&D y otras tantas donde es necesaria una gran implicación por parte de los jugadores, las descarto automáticamente. Prefiero jugarlas en partidas de mesa u online con aforo limitado donde al final no se vean esas incoherencias de siempre por no querer aprenderse correctamente el trasfondo o ser coherente con él.
Soy un hombre de gustos simples, me gustan los dados, los manuales gordos y las fichas a lápiz. (No pueden decir que son baratos porque los manuales están por las nubes)

¡Hola Capitán Cube! Necesito de su sabio conocimiento. Veras, jamás me han gustado los sistemas, no voy a mentirte, mas solo era por mero miedo/pereza. Nunca me gusto enrollarme demasiado, solo sentarme a escribir y ya.
Sin embargo, desde hace unos meses, es un terreno que comenzó a gustarme bastante que bipolar soy. He jugado e ideado para darle vida a un sistema para un foro típico de fantasía medieval, al mejor estilo D&D, WoW, LOTR, etc. También uno sobrenatural, para las típicas criaturas que ya conocemos de ese mundo. Pero ahora, me ha picado las ganas de tratar de idear uno para Superhéroes, pero me siento en el completo limbo, no logro visualizar como equilibrar todo para las infinitas habilidades que hay.
¿Me puedes recomendar que leer para poder idear un sistema para superhéroes?

¡Buenas Anon! Cómo me gusta que me pidáis cosas bonitas: que te recomiende qué leer… snif, me siento orgulloso cuando hacéis las cosas bien.
Lo primero que tengo que recordar, eso sí, es que no hay absolutamente nada malo en que a uno no le gusten los sistemas. No dejan de ser un juego, y nadie juega a algo que no le divierte. Yo, por ejemplo, odio los juegos de puzzles, y por tanto no los toco.
Eso sí, si te has picado, adelante con ello, a mucha gente le pasa. Ya lo he dicho alguna vez, pero a mí nunca me gustó crear mis propios sistemas porque siempre pensé que los que ya hay en manuales editados son mucho más profesionales y completos. Y lo son, pero descubrí que ninguno de ellos me daba todo lo que quería/necesitaba en el entorno de foros y al final tuve que acabar entrando al ajo.
Pero respondiendo a tu pregunta, que es lo que importa, te diré que devores cada manual que te caiga en las manos, ya sea físico o en pdf. ¿Ya controlas D&D? Perfecto, échale un ojo a algo diferente. Desde los gigantes clásicos como Vampiro, L5A y Cthulhu a juegos nuevos o mucho más pequeños. Incluso si la temática no se parece a lo que tienes en mente, podrías descubrir mecánicas o detalles que te gustan y que puedes ir anotando para luego montar tu propio frankenstein.
Para superhéroes o poderes en concreto, ya recomendé hace poco manuales como Exaltado y Anima, aunque estoy seguro de que hay muchas más referencias cojonudas que no conozco. Vale la pena que le eches un vistazo a algunos manuales de juegos japoneses que rondan por ahí, traducidos al inglés: tienen una forma bastante diferente de plantear sus partidas y roles, y no deja de ser otro punto de vista interesante de aportar.

Movies to watch if you play or plan to play Legend of the Five Rings RPG

So, my friends and I have been playing Legend of Five Rings intermitently for the past... 18 years. We started with first edition, skipped the oriental adventures thing, tried to adopt 3rd edition but not really liked it and finally 4th edition came out in all its glory and that was it. We know there is now the 5th edition with its special dice and all that but we have remained sort of undecisive about it.
Anyway, as years passed by we have made a list of essential films to watch if you want to get a good feel of samurai drama:
1- 13 Assassins (2010, dir Takeshi Mike): This is the basic entry for us, it has lots of action so its not a boring samurai drama and its a good introduction to the genre. For roleplaying purposes it shows you everything you need to start playing legend of the five rings since the plot accurately represents the basic struggle of the samurai: duty vs honor.
2- Yojimbo (1961, dir. Akira Kurosawa) now that you get the basic conflict of being a samurai in service to your lord you will need to watch this movie to understand the other half of the equation: RONIN. Chances are people in your table will want to play Ronin when they start since it is probably easier to start with one of these characters. Also, bonus points for showing how the lower classes live and suffer under bandits, goverment and ronin clashing daily.
3- Harakiri (1962, dir. Masaki Kobayashi) Ok, so you have watched 13 Assassins, the first part of that movie involves a bit of court drama and classic samurai dilemma. If you really want to delve into these themes you NEED to watch Harakiri. This movie is a long sucession of etiquette, court, and lore Bushido skills rolls, contested rolls and honor checks for those involved. Seriously, read the whole mechanics skill check for legends of the five rings related to etiquette, court and honor and its all here. Watch the original from 1962, DO NOT WATCH THE REMAKE.
4- The Sword of Doom (1966, dir Kihachi Okamoto). If Harakiri shows you how the courtly drama should unfold in L5R, this film shows you how duel and combat work, and yes ITS DEADLY. Also, if you pay close attention to the disadvantages part of the character creation for 1st and 4th edition of L5A you can find pretty much all the traits of the protagonist and explain how he is such an overpowered character (I know because I had this type of character/player in our adventures)
5- There a a lot of additional films you can watch, so I will just list them here: The 7 Samurai, Lady Snowblood 1 and 2, Sanjuro, The Hidden Fortress, Kagemusha. this list could probably go on but I feel you might have a nice guide where to start now.
