So How Did You Two Meet
Hello tumblr and happy Kristanna Week! I have written you some modern AU nonsense.
So How Did You Two Meet?
Part One - Anna
Well this one day I was at work and I was talking to Jessica - she used to sit at the desk next to me but she doesn’t any more. She got moved over to - it doesn’t matter. But she used to sit next to me and we’re chatting, and she says, Anna what you need is just a nice, decent man who’ll be nice to you. And I say, Well of course I don’t want a NOT NICE man but when you describe someone as ‘nice’ it just sounds dull, you know? And she says, Haven’t your last few boyfriends been a bit TOO exciting. Aren’t you ready for someone who just likes you and is nice to you. And I’m like, I don’t know. Maybe. But also I think that it does sound a bit dull, to be honest.
Then she’s like, Because Sven has a friend. Sven’s her boyfriend. She says, Sven has a friend, and I say, Good for him, but I’m thinking HMM because this is clearly where the whole conversation has been going. Sven has some boring friend who can’t find anyone because he’s so dull and I’m going to be set up with him and I’m going to have to do it because Jessica is MY friend and I guess I’m not seeing anyone right now so I mean why not? No reason why not. And I’ve met Sven a couple of times and HE’S not dull, he’s really friendly and outgoing and if she’d led with ‘Sven has a friend’ I might have been a bit more enthusiastic. But anyway.
So I say, If this guy is so great, why is he single. This is a very good question to ask whenever your friends try and set you up with anyone. Because there is always a reason and they always know what it is. And Jessica says, because he broke up with his girlfriend a couple of months ago. And they were together for years but they were like on-and-off all that time and Jessica and Sven never liked her so they want him to meet someone new before he goes back to what’s-her-face and probably marries her or something and they’re all stuck with her. So now I’m like Great, you want me to date your friend who is definitely still in love with someone else? And she says, No, he’s been broken up with her this time for way longer than ever before so we’re hopeful, but we want to get this locked down. Go and flutter your eyelashes at him for an evening so at least he realises he’s got Options.
So anyway I ask her for more details about this man and she says his name is Kristoff but he’s not Swedish like Sven, he’s Norwegian. And he’s a tree surgeon. So I say Well why didn’t you open with ‘he’s some kind of Viking lumberjack’ because that would DEFINITELY have got my attention and she says he’s not a lumberjack, a tree surgeon is different, but I’m not so sure. And then she just throws in that he’s 6’3” and nearly as broad across the shoulders and I’m like, to hell with it, you know? I will go to dinner with the tall blond Scandinavian man who either chops down trees or lovingly nurtures them back to health, I’m not fussed, those both sound good to me. Even if he is Nice. Maybe that’ll be like a palate cleanser.
So she sets it up and I meet him at the restaurant and he really is very tall and for some reason I was expecting blue eyes but they’re brown and when he smiles it’s with his whole face and long story short my sister - I flatshare with my sister -  phoned me two days later to ask if I was ever coming home and in the end I did because I needed some clean clothes for work but then I left again. Believe me, he was more than nice, if you know what I mean.
And now we’re getting married!
He’s just over there. You can’t miss him, you can always see the top of his head, it’s very handy in crowds and things. Kris! Over here!
What’s that? Oh, they just asked how we met.

Kristanna Week Day 1: RED
Doing a little Harry Potter AU for this week. Might be a little late on the prompts but I’m going to do them! These are gonna be hella rough and unedited so, apologies for the rough edges on these. Will try my best!
Happy Kristanna Week everyone!
Rating: K
Kristoff meets her by chance.
Him and Sven are lounging in courtyard in between classes, Sven looking over the Daily Prophet while Kristoff lies back on the bench enjoying the last bit of warmth before fall completely sets in.
He hears voices from across the way and he rolls his head to the side. That’s when he sees her.
A small, red-haired girl that Kristoff is sure he’s seen before. He vaguely remembers seeing her being sorted into Gryffindor at the feast.
She has her head ducked down, holding on to a book as three Slytherin boys follow behind her, the middle boy smirking as they do.
“Oh come on now, Pippy Long-stockings,” The boy says, obviously mocking her twin braids, his goonies chuckling at the name calling, “Where do you think you’re off to?”
The girl ignores them, moving briskly across the courtyard towards Sven and Kristoff. As he watches her, Kristoff gives her props for not responding. He remembers the days he was picked on and the many points he took from Hufflepuff for his retaliations.
“Are you going to go cry to your cold, heartless sister of yours?”
That sets the girl off it seems, as she stops dead in her tracks and whips around. In a blink of an eye, she has her wand pointed directly at the boy, his smirk now gone.
“Don’t you dare talk about my sister.” She threatens.
A moment passes in which Kristoff realizes he is standing now, and then the Slytherin boys begin to laugh.
“What do you think you’re going to do, eh?” The boy mocks, “You could barely turn the rat to a tea cup yesterday.”
His goons laugh once more, but the girl keeps her wand aimed directly at the sneering boy.
Kristoff catches Sven standing up next to him, the paper left forgotten on the ground as he watches the scene.
“You’re pathetic.” The boy says, smirking again, “A weak little mudblood.”
The moment the boy says it, Kristoff sees red.
All his life, Kristoff had heard that name spewed at his family. He’d been too young to understand it at first, once calling his sister that name in anger after she’d broken one of his toys. His mother had sat him down that day, explained exactly what that name meant and the cruel meaning behind it.
Kristoff doesn’t realize he has punched the boy till he sees him sprawled out on the ground clutching his nose. His hand begins to hurt from the hit but Kristoff doesn’t care, no one deserves to be called such a harsh, cruel name.
Before the other two boys can even begin to react, Sven is there wand in hand and ready.
“Don’t even think about it.” Sven murmurs.
The two boys look at each other, then down at their crying friend and pick him up swiftly. As they run off, Kristoff unclenches his jaw, releasing the anger that had overtaken him.
No doubt they’ll lose points later for Hufflepuff, but he could care less.
He’ll earn them back later.
“Thank you.” The girl says timidly behind them, and Kristoff turns to face her.
He doesn’t think he’s ever seen such beautiful blue eyes in his life.
“Of-of course.” He stutters, clearing his throat to hide his sudden nervousness, “they deserved it.”
“Right foul gits if you ask me.” Sven says, always the confident one, “Deserved more than just one punch for what he called you.”
The girl laughs, the sweetest sound Kristoff has ever heard. “I’m Anna.” She says, reaching out her hand.
“Sven.” He says, shaking her hand.
“Uh, Kristoff.” He says, shaking her hand and he doesn’t miss how incredibly small her hand is within his own.
“Nice to meet you.” She says, smiling brightly. “Are you first years?”
“Second actually.” Sven says, “Know all the ins and outs of this place now.”
Kristoff rolls his eyes, “You don’t know shit, you only think you do.”
“Oi, I know enough to avoid Filch don’t I?”
“Doesn’t mean you know it all.”
Sven shrugs, “It’s enough. Anyways, I’m starving. Anna, have you had lunch yet?”
“Oh, um...no I haven’t.”
“Well you’re in luck.” Sven says as he pats Kristoff on the back, “We were just heading to Great Hall, care to join us?”
Kristoff looked to Sven, opening his mouth to ask what he was on about but he never got the chance.
“Sure!” Anna said, and Kristoff looked back to see the excitement in her eyes. He couldn’t say no.
“Excellent! I could use a glass of pumpkin juice!” Sven says, “And you deserve a dessert for that punch Kristoff.”
“You didn’t need to do that.” Anna said, looking at him now.
Kristoff shrugs, “No one deserves to be called that.”
“Still, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He says, returning her smile.
There is a moment of silence, and then from across the yard they hear a loud and angry voice call, “BJORGMAN!”
Sven says quickly, “And that’s our cue to leave!”

Loving You is Red

Read on AO3
Everyone had a soulmate. It was just a known fact amongst people. There was no explanation why, it was just there. A concept that was just accepted. Some people didn’t believe it. Some people chose not to date their soulmate. Some people died waiting to find theirs.
Anna Arendelle wanted so badly to find her soulmate. She was quite the hopeless romantic and thought the concept of being with someone who was literally her “meant-to-be” was amazing. Her parents had always told she and her sister, Elsa, that they had been soulmates. That the pull they felt to one another was like nothing else.
Elsa was a bit skeptical of the concept. Not that she thought their parents were lying, but she doubted she’d ever experience it for herself. Nor did she have the desire to search for it.
But Anna was definitely the opposite. She had a boyfriend in high school, Hans, who she had hoped was her soulmate. She was immediately attracted to him. Anna later learned from her mother that the attraction and pull of a soulmate were two totally different things, much to Anna’s disappointment. But she continued to date Hans anyway, even though he was two grades older than her… Needless to say, when he went to college… the relationship didn’t last. He’d decided that sleeping with other girls was more important than being with Anna.
Despite her heartbreak, she knew that her opportunity to really find her soulmate was renewed since she was no longer in a relationship with her “high school sweetheart” if she could call him that. Her mother’s reassurance that she could find her soulmate urged Anna forward. The hope made her day dream again. Made her imagine what type of man her soulmate would be.
Anna walked with her sister down the busy street corner. Main street of Arendelle was always bustling with activity in the mornings. Elsa had a favorite coffee shop that she loved to start her day with. She introduced the little shop to Anna when she started at Arendelle University that year with her sister. It wasn’t too far from campus, so it was an easy walk.
But something different happened that morning. Anna got her typical maple harvest latte as she always did, but suddenly the tiny carrot cakes caught her eye. Blinking, she just gazed at the treat for a moment.
Elsa tilted her head. “Anna?”
Shaking her head, Anna was out of her trance. “Ah, sorry. I just--The carrot cakes look good.”
“I didn’t know you liked carrot cake,” her sister replied with an amused smirk.
“I-I don’t know if I do,” she paused before glancing at her sister. “But I think my soulmate does.”
Her sister’s bluebell eyes widened at that. “What? You don’t usually start sensing things about your soulmate unless you’ve been around them.”
Anna’s heartbeat quickened at the thought. Had she met her soulmate and hadn’t realized it? What he’d passed her on campus and she’s never known? What if he was in one of her classes? Gears spun in her mind as she tried to connect the cogs to form a cognitive thought. How would she know it was him?
Elsa watched her before giving a reassuring smile, reaching out to place a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Hey, if you’re supposed to find him then you will. It’s fate, right?”
Willing the confusion and wonder in her heart to die down, Anna gave a small nod. “Yeah… You’re right, Elsa.”
  o~o~o~o
The ache in Anna’s chest didn’t leave for days. She didn’t understand why she suddenly knew her soulmate’s favorite treat or song or that he had a dog. Sometimes she’d dream she was connected to him. A red string tied on her pinky led her down a sidewalk towards a white light. She saw a flash of him. But only the back of him. Blonde hair, broad shoulders…
Anna longed to meet him. To finally see him in person.
“I don’t understand, Mama…” she sighed, flopping back on the bed.
Iduna gave her a sympathetic smile. She placed a hand on Anna’s knee. “You’ll find him if it’s meant to be, dear.”
“But I want to find him. Doesn’t he want to find me?”
Iduna shrugged. “Not everyone actively looks for their soulmate.”
Sitting up on the bed, she gave her mother a concerned stare. “Do you think he’ll hate me when we meet?”
Her mother smiled, laughing. “No one could ever hate you, Anna.”
She hoped her mother was right in that instant…
  o~o~o~o
It was a typical Tuesday when Anna saw him for the first time. She wasn’t sure how she just knew . It was almost a terrifying epiphany to suddenly know that someone was your soulmate. She left the coffee shop, a carrot cake in her hand. He was across main street walking his dog that she’d somehow known he’d had.
Her heart thundered in her chest when his brows furrowed and he looked at her. God, the way he looked at her. His eyes were honey-brown. Wide and beautiful. Surprise was clear in that expression.
Then she saw it.
That invisible string that had been leading her towards him all of this time. The string ran from her finger to his across the street.
She bolted towards him.
Anna paid no attention to the cars coming her way. To the other pedestrians that walked by. He looked utterly horrified by her actions.
“Are you crazy!? You almost died!” he shouted.
He was right. She probably looked insane to him. But she didn’t care.
“It’s you,” she breathed.
God, her mother was right. The pull… the ache she felt in her chest for this man was nothing like the attraction she felt for Hans. For anyone. This was a longing and desire she’d never experienced in her entire life.
His cheeks pinked a little, glancing down at his hand where he could also see the string attached. “Y-Yeah…”
Anna couldn’t express how thrilled she was, but her soulmate didn’t seem to have the same excited reaction she did. (His dog was thrilled though--wagging his tail happily and panting as he looked between them.)
The silence was awkward as they stared at one another.
Finally, she gathered her courage. Smiling, she held out her hand with the string attached. “I’m Anna.”
Her soulmate seemed surprised. Did he think she’d go through all of this--cross the street without looking both ways like an idiot--without even introducing herself?
“Kristoff,” he replied.
When his stringed hand met hers, an electric pulse shot to her chest. She gasped, squeezing his fingers harder than she meant to in her surprise. Kristoff seemed equally shocked.
He swallowed, glancing away from her. “W-Well, it was nice to meet you,” he sputtered before turning to take his leave.
“Wait! Don’t go!” she spouted quickly.
Kristoff cringed and glanced around, seeming to check if people were staring. “What?”
“You can’t just--you can’t just leave. We’re soulmates.”
Shaking his head, he hissed. “No. No, I don’t do the whole ‘soulmate’ thing. I don’t do people at all. It’s--It’s just me and Sven,” he said, gesturing to the dog. “And that’s how it should be.”
When he started to retreat again, Anna stepped in front of him. “No. You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Kristoff. I know you feel what I’ve felt. You know things about me, right? Things you couldn’t explain?”
“I…” he glanced down.
“What’s my favorite snack?” she asked quickly. Kristoff gave her a confused look, but Anna rolled her eyes in response before reaching into the sack she’d gotten from the coffee shop. “I know yours,” she said before holding up the carrot cake.
Kristoff gaped at her, glancing between her face and the treat. “Your… Your favorite coffee is maple harvest. I-I wanted to try it sometime. That’s why I started walking through here with Sven. You have good taste,” he admitted.
Anna smiled at that. “Thank you.”
His lips twitched a little at that. Despite his clear resistance, she was glad she could make him smile. Kristoff was adorable. Nothing like she expected him to be, surely. When she saw how broad his back was… she assumed he’d be some macho man, but Kristoff was rather--normal. Kind of shy… Maybe a little grumpy.
“I know we’ve just met… and you don’t seem too thrilled about the whole soulmate concept,” Anna began with a nervous laugh, rubbing her sleeves cautiously. “But I would at least like to get to know you. Will you… give this a chance?”
Kristoff pursed his lips, seeming to mull it over. He gave her a cautious look, apparently stunned by her desire to get to know him. Maybe, he was telling the truth. People may have not been this thing. But that was okay. She could help him through that. He didn’t need a lot of people. Just her, right?
He had to have felt that pull. That need to be with her like she felt for him.
Sighing, he nodded. “Yeah. We can give this a shot.”
  o~o~o~o
Anna was told that being with her soulmate was like no other. Her mother’s words had been proven true. It’d taken some time for Kristoff to open up… but he loved her. She knew he did. It only took a month for her to fall completely head over heels for him. It took her so long to gather the nerve to kiss him.
And boy… when she did.
They were sitting together in his living room after he’d invited her over for dinner. It was their first time to be really alone--well, aside from Sven, of course--and Anna felt her heart dancing against her ribcage while they cuddled on his couch. She wasn’t sure how she convinced him to watch holiday rom-coms with her… but she had a feeling he liked them too, but just wouldn’t admit it. Maybe, it was because of their bond….
She turned to face him, watching him carefully. Kristoff seemed to notice her eyes on him as he gave her a sideways glance. His cheeks were flushed. She knew--She just knew he wanted to kiss her too.
“Kristoff. Thank you for this.”
He turned to her then. “For what?”
“I know you really don’t like people… And now you’ve met my family and have to deal with going out with me all the time even though you’d rather be at home. I’m just--I’m happy you gave this a chance. Gave me--uh-- us a chance.”
Kristoff gave her that small smirk she’d come to love over the last few weeks. He pushed her auburn fringe back on her forehead. “I’m glad I did.”
Anna gaped. “Wait. Really?”
Snorting, he shook his head. “What? Did you think this date meant nothing?”
“I don’t know,” she said with a shrug. “Maybe you just wanted to hang out?”
“We’ve been hanging out almost every day since we’ve found one another. I just assumed we were dating.”
Anna nodded feverishly. “Oh, we are! We definitely are!”
“Sooo, since we’re dating--” he cleared his throat. “That means I could kiss you, right?”
A grin spread across her cheeks.
“I-If I may? We may? Uh--”
Anna cupped his cheeks and pulled him in. The feeling of his lips pressed to her own was electrifying. Her chest ached. It felt as if her soul was hugging his own. Though just a small peck, the kiss spoke volumes. The feeling left her breathless. Her heart fluttering.
She loved him. She really did love him. Her soul loved his.
Kristoff’s hand traveled up her face, burying into her hair. He pulled her close again. “You know… I think I believe in soulmates now.”
She laughed against his lips. “Really? What was your first clue?”
He caught her lips again.
Yes… Some things were meant to be.

Bloom
Pairing: Kristanna
Word Count: 2,488/AO3
Summary: Though their initial meeting was the result of an unfortunate situation, Anna and Kristoff begin to grow something wonderful, together.
Author’s Note: Hi everyone! This is my contribution for Kristanna Week Day 1 - Red! I had a billion ideas for this color because of all of the emotion attached to it but I couldn’t execute any of them well enough. As is typical for me, I finished this very last minute (aka at 3am). Also, I know nothing about flowers lol. Enjoy!!!
The first time that they met had been a pure coincidence. Kristoff had picked up a late shift at his parents’ flower shop on Valentine’s Day, when he knew the only customers would be the desperate, last-minute “I need to bring some type of flower home or my significant other will k*ll me” people. He always took the shift as a courtesy to his adoptive parents, so they could enjoy a night off and go to dinner or a movie and celebrate the holiday.
He was neither here nor there about Valentine’s Day. He didn’t think it was a meaningless holiday like many of his single friends did, but he wasn’t necessarily fond of it, either - mainly because of the association to the flower shop and all of the craziness that ensued in the weeks leading up to it. He was expected the night to go exactly as they had in Valentines Day pasts; a few late night stragglers but otherwise quiet.
What was particularly unexpected that night was when the little bell on the door of the shop jingled and a young couple walked in near closing time.
The man couldn’t even be bothered to pull the phone away from his ear before telling the woman, “Here’s my credit card, pick something fast so we could get the hell out of here.”
He watched in silence as the woman, on the verge of tears, slowly perused the shop while her boyfriend-slash-husband or whoever he was waited by the door and continued his phone conversation.
“Can I help you?” Kristoff asked when she came close enough to the cash register. She was quite beautiful; bright blue eyes, a dusting of freckles across her nose and cheeks, which happened to be rosy from the cold weather, and long, auburn hair that stood out against her plum-colored pea coat and grey knit hat. He also couldn’t help but notice the large, sparkly diamond ring on her left hand. Married.
She shakily sighed, the tears pooling in her eyes threatening to spill over at any second. “I know it’s late, but do you have any roses left?”
He nodded. “We do.”
“Those are traditional for Valentine’s Day, right?”
“Yes, ma’am,” he answered.
“Can I have a dozen roses, please?”
“Sure. How do you want them?”
“What do you mean?”
“Do you want them with babies’ breath? Wrapped in paper or in a vase? Or -”
She shook her head. “You know what...never mind. Thank you for your help.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” she said, her voice cracking. “Valentine’s Day is almost over, anyway.”
He glanced up at the clock on the wall; it was quarter to eleven, which meant that there was just over an hour left of the holiday. His heart was breaking for her.
“Anna!” her husband sternly called. “Let’s go!”
She turned toward the entrance of the shop. “Thank you again.”
“Wait,” he said, plucking a red rose from the pile behind the register and holding it out to her. “I feel really bad.”
“You shouldn’t be the one to feel bad.”
“Please take it.”
The tiniest inkling of a smile appeared on her quivering lips as she accepted the flower. “Thank you.”
He nodded sympathetically, and watched as she walked back over to her husband.
“Excellent, you didn’t spend much,” the man said smugly, snatching the credit card from her hands. He was still on the phone, which was now sandwiched between his shoulder and his ear. “Are you satisfied enough to go home now?”
She looked back in his direction one last time as her husband grabbed her by the hand and pulled her out of the shop, jostling the bell once again. Kristoff was so enraged that he was practically seeing red; he’d seen plenty people come in over the years and buy flowers last minute, but that had to be the worst instance he’d ever seen. He couldn’t fathom how a grown man could treat his wife so...poorly. If that was what happened in public, he couldn’t imagine what happened in private. With his jaw clenched, he made it through the remainder of his shift, counted the cash register, and booked it out of there as quickly as he could, stewing in his own anger for the rest of the night and much of the following day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second time they met was intentional, though not on his behalf; nearly two weeks had passed, and Kristoff had managed to put the entire incident behind him - or so he thought. He’d finished his shift and was packing up to leave on a Saturday afternoon when one of his coworkers came to the break room and grabbed his attention.
“Kristoff, there’s a young woman looking for you.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “What?”
“A young woman asked if she could speak to the tall, blond guy and you’re the only person that fits that description.”
He sighed, mentally preparing himself to get an earful from a woman whose husband bought flowers for his mistress or something equally as ridiculous. It happened quite frequently and he was always the one to take the heat as opposed to the person who’d actually caused the problem.
Instead, he was quite shocked when he walked out onto the sales floor and found the woman from Valentine’s Day, in the same plum-colored pea coat and grey hat. Her left hand was gripping onto the strap of her purse by her shoulder, and he couldn’t help but notice that her ring finger was sans ring.
“Hi, can I help you?”
“Hi,” she said in a small voice. “I’m not sure if you remember me, but I came in right before you closed on Valentine’s Day...with my ex-fiancé.”
“I remember,” he confirmed. His initial suspicions had been wrong; the man wasn’t her husband, after all.
“I just had to come in and thank you again,” she explained. “It was such a kind gesture, and I really needed it that night. You really have no idea how much it meant to me.”
Not wanting to bring up the rottenness of the situation and rub it in like salt in a wound, he simply nodded. “No problem.”
“I can’t even imagine what that must’ve looked like to you...how bad it looked.”
He shrugged. “I’ve seen some crazy stuff.”
“I can only imagine,” she stated. “If you’re free, I’d really love to buy you a coffee or something from the café next door to say thank you.”
He waved his hands dismissively, slightly flustered at the offer. “You don’t have to do that, it really wasn’t a big deal.”
“It was to me,” she said meekly. “I want to express my gratitude.”
He faltered for a moment; if it would make her feel better, then there was really no harm in agreeing to go along. “Okay.”
The tension in her face melted away. “Great.”
“Let me just grab my jacket.”
He grabbed his belongings, waved goodbye to his coworkers and then met her back on the sales floor. Without another word, they left the shop.
“I don’t believe I caught your name,” she mentioned once they had made it outside.
“Kristoff.”
“I’m Anna,” she said, smiling as he held open the door to the café for her. They managed to snag a table by the window, and once they sat down, she asked, “How do you take your coffee?”
“Black,” he answered. “And the smallest size they have, otherwise I’ll be awake all night.”
“Got it,” she nodded, walking over to the cashier.
He rested his arms on the table, waiting for her to come back but slightly eager to leave and go about the rest of his day. She returned a few minutes later, setting the two cups on the table and sitting across from him.
“So, you must know quite a bit about flowers being that you work for a florist.”
“I do,” he confirmed. “My folks own the shop. I’m helping them out while I’m working on my degree. I’ll probably still help them out once I graduate, though.”
“That’s so nice,” she smiled. “Do you have a favorite flower?”
He shook his head. “I don’t. I associate different flowers with different occasions, so that may be why.”
“My absolute favorites are sunflowers. But I love roses, too. And gardenias, and lilies. I guess I like everything,” she laughed, jovial for a moment before her expression turned somber. “You know, I wouldn’t be sitting here if you hadn’t handed me that rose, so if it’s okay with you, I want to explain what you saw that night and the aftermath.”
“Go for it,” he encouraged. Admittedly, he was quite curious, even though he knew that it wasn’t really his business.
“Obviously, it was Valentine’s Day. I wasn’t expecting flowers or chocolate or anything really, but my ex and I would always exchange gifts on holidays. We had just got engaged in December and I knew he spent a lot on the ring so I didn’t have any expectations for this year, but I still got him a gift,” she explained.
He nodded along as she spoke, not wanting to interrupt.
“He got home late and spent the rest of the night on the phone, ignoring me - which isn’t unusual for him, but I was hoping that we’d spend some time together because it was a special day. I asked him if he wanted to go out to dinner, but he’d already eaten with someone...I’m assuming it was another woman. Anyway, he got off the phone long enough to tell me that if I really wanted chocolate, then I could wait until the day after when it would all be marked down, and that we could go to the flower shop near closing because the flowers would probably be really cheap - I don’t think that’s true, though.”
“It isn’t,” he verified.
“By the time we got to your shop, I was pretty upset because of the way he had been treating me all day, but it only got worse once we were inside. I was barely able to keep it together, and it wasn’t until you - a complete stranger - showed me the tiniest bit of compassion that I realized how bad my situation was and how badly I needed to get out of it.”
She took a deep breath before continuing. “I broke up with him. By the time we got back to the car I was crying, and he got mad that I was disrupting his call and we had a huge fight. It ended with me throwing the ring in his face and moving out.”
He hesitated for a moment, not wanting to say the wrong thing. “I’m glad you were able to get out of that.”
“Me too,” she nodded. “I think I knew it had to end for a long time - even when I said ‘yes’ to getting engaged. But what really solidified it was when you handed me that flower - it reminded me that people who care about others still exist.”
“Anyone who works there would’ve done the same,” he chuckled, trying to divert the credit away from himself.
“I’ve spoken to a few friends and I recommended your family’s flower shop to them. They should spend their money at a business that actually cares about its customers.”
“Thanks, that means a lot.”
She nodded, a smile gracing her lips. “It’s the least I could do.”
They talked a little while longer before bidding each other goodbye and going their separate ways. In all honesty, Kristoff was happy for her; she’d escaped a bad relationship and she seemed to be in a much better place despite the fact that little time had passed. Even though he imagined he’d never see her again, he could rest easy knowing that she wouldn’t be trapped in a loveless marriage.
It didn’t quite play out the way he imagined, though. Frequently, she’d pop into the shop and distract him, following him around as he added water to the vases or fixed the arrangements, only laying low when another customer would come in. He didn’t mind the distraction at all; it made time go faster and she was fun to talk to.
It wasn’t until a hot, summer afternoon in June that he decided to do something about their relationship. Anna came into the shop clad in a red sundress, accessorized with a floppy, wide-brim hat and oversized sunglasses right before his shift was due to end.
“Hi, Kristoff,” she smiled, pulling the sunglasses off of her nose and hooking them onto the front of her dress. “Did you get in any sunflowers yet?”
“We did,” he confirmed. “We got a batch that bloomed early this year.”
She clapped her hands together. “That’s so exciting! May I purchase a bouquet of them?”
“Sure,” he said, walking over to where they were being kept, fully aware that she was following him. While she often came in to visit, she seldom purchased any flowers. She usually just came in to keep him company and relentlessly flirt. “Any special occasion?”
“It’s my birthday,” she answered, a slight blush creeping across her cheeks.
“Oh!” he exclaimed, slightly embarrassed that he didn’t know - to his recollection, they’d never discussed birthdays. “Happy birthday!”
“Thank you,” she beamed. “I figured I may as well treat myself to my favorite flowers on my birthday, you know?”
“Of course,” he agreed, though in his head he’d already decided that she wasn’t going to pay for the flowers. It was her birthday, after all - they should be gifted to her. “Do you have any special plans?”
“I’m probably going to go out with some friends over the weekend, but not today.”
“I’d love to take you out to dinner,” he said, before quickly adding, “If you’re up for it.”
She nodded, biting down on her lip. “That would be really nice.”
They walked back to the counter, and he arranged the flowers in white and tan tissue paper, securing them with a red bow that matched her dress.
“How much do I owe you?” she asked, opening her purse and digging for her wallet.
“Don’t be silly. They’re on me.”
“You’re such a sweetheart, you don’t have to do that.”
“It’s your birthday,” he reminded her. “I want you to have them.”
He handed them to her and she cradled them in her arms. “Thank you, Kristoff.”
“I’m going to go clock out and then we can go?”
She nodded excitedly and when he returned, he took her by the arm and led her out of the shop, the bell jingling as the door opened and they stepped out into the sunshine.
What had started as something so rotten had bloomed into something beautiful. And for every occasion from that point forward, there were flowers to match; roses on Valentine’s Day, poinsettias at Christmastime, and of course, sunflowers for Anna’s birthday.

An Evening Spectacle | Kristanna Week
Fandom: Frozen, Frozen II
Ship: Anna/Kristoff
Words: 1,000+
Rating: K
Summary: Anna invites Kristoff to join her on the roof of the palace to enjoy a gorgeous sunset and the extraordinary northern lights.
Author’s Note: Hello! Today’s prompt was all about warmth, home, sunrise and sunset. The sunset in particular piqued my interest, and from there I developed this little oneshot. I did briefly debate setting this at sunrise, but I think we all know that our beloved sleepyhead Anna has never seen a sunrise willingly in her life! This is set after Frozen and before Frozen II, just for reference.

“Come on, it’s perfectly safe.”
Kristoff regarded the pulley system with more than a degree of trepidation. He’d just seen her do it, yes, but she was approximately one third of the size (and weight) of him.
“I am... not sure about this.” He tugged nervously at his collar as he spoke, and in spite of his words he had started stepping out of the window and onto the swinging plank of wood that now looked extremely precarious.
Both feet were firmly on it, and it still hadn’t collapsed to the ground that was currently five storeys away. Relieved, but honestly slightly surprised at his good fortune, Kristoff made short work of using the mechanism to pull himself up to where Anna was already perched.
Gingerly, Kristoff stepped onto the roof of the dormer window, and unceremoniously managed to sit down beside her. From here, Arendelle looked like a small painting of rooftops and chimney pots, an artist’s rendering of a perfect and unreal kingdom.
Of course, Kristoff was familiar with the kingdom, having seen it both up close and from high in the mountains. He wasn’t sure if it was the new angle or his present company that made him see it in a new way now. It looked warm, and familiar, bathed in the golden orange light of a lovely summer’s evening.
“So, feistypants, I know I should be looking at more than just the view.” He turned to her, and she grinned up at him in a way that was so open and affectionate that he thought his heart might burst.
“Okay, just, give it a few minutes.”
He took her hand in his own. Hers was small - so small! - and delicate and warm. Kristoff thought he’d never get used to the fact that she was happy to be his, and that he could hold this hand whenever he wanted (which was all the time). Idly, she took her free hand and placed it on top of their conjoined fingers.
For a few moments, they sat together in silence, just enjoying each other’s company. Then, Anna looked again at the view, gasped, and pointed to where he should be looking. “Now! Look, Kristoff, look at it!”
The sun had begun to set, and the sky had turned a beautiful shade of peachy pink. It bathed the mountains, fjord, and town in its ethereal light.
“Isn’t it amazing?” Anna sighed, and leaned into his arm so her head was resting as close to his shoulder as was possible for her to reach.
“Yeah,” Kristoff murmered, “Yeah it is.”
The sky began to change from pink to vivid orange, and the couple basked in the final moments of fleeting warmth from the day. The reflection of the sky on the water of the fjord made it look as though the entire landscape was burning with a radiant fire.
Relaxing further, Kristoff untangled their clasped hands to wrap an arm over her shoulder and pull Anna closer to him. She snuggled into his side, nestling her head into his chest and her arm over his stomach.
In a final display of its light, the sun slowly transformed the sky from orange to red. Arendelle and its surrounding landscape of fjords and mountains looked almost otherworldly. He continued staring as the red faded to the warm wrap of navy blue night.
“This is my favourite part,” Anna whispered, and Kristoff took that to mean that he should keep waiting.
A vibrant green ebbed across the landscape of infinite sky as he watched the stars coming into view. It was joined by brilliant flashes of blue, purple, and pink, all dancing across the inky night in a dazzling display that felt as though it was meant for only them.
“I always loved nights like this,” Anna said softly. “Growing up, I could never sleep when I knew the sky looked like this. When we were little, I used to go and wake up Elsa so she could see it too. I guess I just wanted the company since I wasn’t going to bed any time soon.” She laughed quietly, enjoying the memories. “And then when we got older, and it was just me, nights like this when I could sit in a window or on the roof and watch the sky, well... it was one of the few things that made me feel a little less lonely. I thought that, when the sky was like this, it was awake. And I was awake too. It’s silly-”
“It’s not.” Kristoff firmly stopped her before she could dare apologise for or diminish her confession. “It’s beautiful. And I’m glad you had that comfort.”
She was quiet for a moment, and Kristoff didn’t interject her silence. He let her collect her thoughts. “Thank you,” she said finally. “I’m glad I had that too.”
“When I was little, and Bulda and Cliff first took me and Sven in, I asked about the lights. I’d been obsessed with them - I used to stay up all night to watch them too. The way the reflect on ice is just incredible...” He trailed off, then caught himself, cleared his throat, and carried on. “Bulda told me that it was the gods painting a picture. I always liked that explanation.
“And the lights always seemed to appear right when I was having a bad day, or feeling lonely or useless or whatever. It was comforting to think that the gods were creating a work of art that was just for me.”
“I like that explanation too,” Anna said softly. “Now the gods are painting a picture that’s just for us.”
The warmth of her body lulled him to a state of utter tranquility. Anna relaxed into the deep breaths she felt beneath her, cuddling ever closer to settle against his calm embrace. They continued to gaze at lights that grazed across the night sky, sharing in each other’s rapt attention as they enjoyed the spectacle in peace.
“Kristoff?”
“Mm?”
“I’m really happy that I’ve got you to see the lights with from now on.”
Softly, he leaned down and kissed her softly on the top of her head. “You can wake me up to see them with you any time, Anna. Even when we’re old and grey.”

Her Majesty Anna, Queen of Arendelle, pressed a cushion over her face and screamed into it. The movement of her husband's fingers paused, and she pulled the pillow away from her mouth to throw it at him.
"Don't you dare stop."
Kristoff chuckled, and when back to rubbing deep circles over the muscles of her calves and her puffy, swollen ankles, which were draped over his lap. She groaned as he found a tender spot.
It was well after lunchtime, and the ambassadors were finally gone. They'd been even more stubborn and ridiculous than usual, which had been especially annoying because Anna would have sacrificed almost anything--except, of course, the well-being of her subjects--to send the ambassadors back home hours ago.
"I should have pretended to go into labor," she mumbled, rubbing her temples. It knocked her crown askew, and her twist of braids was coming unpinned. Anna couldn't bring herself to care. She yanked the tiara off and dropped it on the side table, then began pulling pins out of her hair, searching for the one that was poking her in the scalp.
Kristoff's palm stroked up and down her bare leg (her stockings were crumpled on the floor, on top of the shoes she'd kicked viciously away), his hand pushing her demure blue skirt out of the way above her knee. "They would have still stayed," he said, "waiting for you to produce the baby."
"Mm." Anna found the offending hair pin and threw it away, then sank back against the sofa's padded arm. She draped an arm across her heavy stomach and looked over it at her husband. He'd followed through on his promise from that morning--during the interminable meetings he'd been at her elbow, his eyes on her. Twice cups of tea had been steaming in front of her just as she'd realized she was longing for them, along with chocolate biscuits when she'd suddenly realized that if she didn't eat something then she'd bite the next old man who wheezed "If I may play devil's advocate, Your Majesty…"
Kristoff had even worn his formal suit, including the snug trousers that he still had on, although his coat was folded behind her head and he'd rolled up the fine linen sleeves of his shirt. The silk cravat was somewhere on the floor with their shoes and her discarded stockings. The state of dishabille made it look for all the world as if they'd been doing something far more decadent than a foot massage--not that her husband's thumb firmly caressing her instep wasn't decadent, but….
Anna sighed wistfully, her cheeks heating at the memory of that morning's decadence. She'd begun the morning still flushed from Kristoff's attentions, before the frustration at driven all thoughts of marital bliss from her mind, but the stroke of his calloused fingers up her ankle reminded her of the way he'd touched her, his hands on her legs, his lips on her--
Her breath shuddered, a tremor running up her spine, and Kristoff's hand paused on her calf.
'Anything my queen commands…'
"Kristoff--" She pushed herself up on her elbows. "I--" Her leg shifted restlessly, the ball of her foot rubbing over his thigh, and Anna could feel the heavy muscles flexing through the thin material. He inhaled sharply.
"Tell me what you need," he said, his voice husky. "I'll give it to you."
Anna pushed herself up, swinging her feet out of his lap. "Get up," she ordered, her heart racing. He stood, towering over her even in his socks, and it made her mouth go dry. "Stand...there, right there." He followed her pointing finger, standing a few feet away, the afternoon light from the open window flooding over him and picking out bright gold highlights in his hair, gilding the faint stubble along his jaw. Anna licked her lips. He watched her from under heavy lids.
"What other commands does my queen have for me?" he asked softly.
Oh, she liked the sound of that. "Strip," Anna said. "I want--I want to look at you."
A grin played around his lips as he undid the buttons of his waistcoat and let it fall to the floor, then yanked out the tails of his shirt. Instead of pulling it over his head, his fingers slid down the placket, unfastening each small horn button in turn, until the white linen bared his chest, the downy layer of hair that narrowed into a trail over his stomach, vanishing behind the waistband of his trousers. He shrugged out of the sleeves and let the shirt drop. The light falling over his shoulders made Anna squirm restlessly against the cushions, her bare toes digging into the silk carpet.
When he unbuttoned his trousers, however, she straightened. "Stop," Anna commanded, her voice sounding strange and smoky in her own ears. He stopped, hands on his waistband, watching her. "Leave them on, but...I want to see you. Show yourself to me." Kristoff raised an eyebrow, making her blush darken, but he didn't hesitate to obey, letting the trousers slide down his hips just enough to free his erection. The stiff flesh was thick and flushed against the dark material, rosy with arousal.
Anna felt...wanton. A little depraved. She was a queen, a married woman, soon to be a mother, formally and fully clothed--except for her stockings--and also her thighs were sticky with desire as she looked at her husband. The sight of him, proud and framed by the placket of his trousers, was somehow more erotic than the sight of him fully undressed. He stood still, his cock moving in little bobs that she knew matched his heartbeat, his breathing as shallow as her own, waiting for orders.
Something was missing.
A glint caught the corner of her eye, and Anna leaned over to pick up her discarded tiara. Her braids had unraveled, coiling around her shoulders, but she set the crown on her loose hair anyway. Did she imagine Kristoff's short, hard intake of breath?
"Touch yourself for me," she said.
There was a rumble in his voice, almost a growl. "As you command, my queen." One broad, calloused hand dropped down to curl around the red shaft of his cock, his breath hitching as he fisted himself, sliding up, his thumb swiping across the slick tip. And all the while his eyes didn't leave her face. Anna wondered how debauched she looked, her cheeks flushed and her teeth worrying her lower lip, her thighs rubbing together as she shifted her hips restlessly.
"Anna," he rasped out, "I'm close."
"Stop."
This time he growled in earnest, but he pulled his hand away, curling it into a fist against his thigh. His chest was heaving, his jaw tight, the smirk gone and his lips pressed into a hard line. She met his gaze, dark with lust. Lust that was hers to command.
Anna licked her lips. He was all golden skin, sun-halo hair and sinful eyes, and strength, so much power coiled up and focused on her, taut muscles held in check.
"Tell me what you want," he said, his voice rough.
What I want--you, all of you, forever. But she couldn't seem to make her mouth shape the words, they were caught somewhere in her throat, crowded out by the throb of her pulse. She couldn't ask for anything, because she wanted it all, and all at once.
Kristoff took a step toward her. "Tell me what you need."
"Your mouth," she blurted. "I need your mouth."
He groaned, sinking to his knees. "Yes," he murmured, his hands sliding up her legs, pushing her skirts out of the way, and he pressed his lips to the inside of her thigh. She felt the hum of his voice against her. "My queen."
Kristoff gripped her hips, sliding her forward on the sofa cushion as warm, nipping kisses made her gasp, licking the evidence of her arousal off her skin and inching ever nearer to--
Anna hissed as her back pinched, the ache that had been ever-present since she started to show blossoming into pain.
"Anna?" Kristoff caught her shoulders, looking anxiously into her face. "Where does it hurt?"
She smiled weakly. "Just my back, again." She tried to find a comfortable position, but Kristoff was already piling pillows behind her, helping her ease back onto them. His warm palm cradled her cheek.
"Better?"
"Yes." Anna relaxed, her eyes closing as the twinge faded, and she felt a gentle kiss brush the corner of her mouth. She signed against his lips. "I'm sorry."
"For what? You don't have anything to be sorry about." He kissed her collarbone, then dropped down to nuzzle against the heavy curve of her stomach. "It's this little trouble maker, though…"
She giggled, combing her fingers into his hair, tracing the edges of his ears and sliding her hands together at the back of his neck. "I love you."
He turned his head to kiss the inside of her wrist. "And I love you, my queen. My Anna."
Her breath caught at the words, her knees coming up on either side of his ribs. "Show me," she ordered.
Kristoff chuckled, but then his hands were under her skirt once again, pushing the loose fabric up and over her belly so that he had unfettered access to the rest of her, her thighs spread by his broad shoulders. He kissed his way down while she squirmed, until his mouth was finally where she'd been wanting it. The first stroke of his tongue made her head go back, her fingers curling in his hair. He hummed approvingly and pressed closer. It didn't take long for Kristoff to find a rhythm that had her whimpering, moans forced out of her by every lick, every tug of his lips. When a work-roughened finger slid into her, curved to stroke that secret place inside, Anna jerked. When he added a second finger she wailed, her climax spilling over her in a rush. He kept his mouth on her, coaxing her until she was wrung out and trembling from head to foot. Only when she gasped out a helpless "too much" did he pull away, kissing her knee as he rocked back on his heels.
Anna stared blindly up at the ceiling, her breath shuddering in her lungs, before a thought occurred to her and she yanked her eyes down to her husband. He was watching her, brown eyes warm and liquid, and the smirk back, curling the corner of his mouth. But--she looked down, to where he was hard and throbbing. "Come here," she demanded, tugging at his shoulders until he stood over her. She grasped him, wrapping her fingers around the hot, silky skin of him, and delighting in the way he groaned, his hips rocking in time with her strokes. Up and down, over the tip and giving extra attention to the ridge under his foreskin that made him rasp out her name in broken syllables. "Anna--Anna, I--"
"Do it," she said. "I want to see you."
His head rolled back on his shoulders as his release spurted over her hand, striping her thighs and her high, rounded stomach. As soon as she let go Kristoff was dropping back to his knees, cupping her face in his hands and kissing her while his seed was still hot on her skin.
It was Kristoff who found his cravat on the floor and used it to wipe away the evidence of their encounter, before tugging her dress back into place. He didn't bother with his shirt, or their shoes, just scooped her up to carry her to the privacy of their room. Anna laid her head on his shoulder, admiring his profile all the way up the stairs.
"Kristoff," she began, "was it--did you--" Anna fumbled over the words, and he paused on the landing to look at her.
"What?"
"Was that...okay? I mean--" Anna blushed. "I was a little...bossy."
He chuckled and kissed her forehead. "It was more than okay, Anna." Kristoff started up the next flight of stairs, each step rocking her in his arms, lulling her. "I like giving you what you need," he said softly. "When you're telling me exactly what you want, it means I can give it to you. I liked that."
He nudged the door of their room open, setting her down on their bed, and she caught his wrist.
"No more ambassadors," she mumbled, and yawned. "Not until after the baby."
He chuckled, lifting the crown from her tangled hair and setting it aside. "As you command, my queen."
Anna tugged on his arm. As soon as his warmth curled around her, his weight on the mattress making her roll into the curve of his body, she was asleep.

Making up for Lost Time
Kristanna modern au ~Kristanna Smut Week 2020 / Day 4: Worship at the Altar
Rated: M (smut week)
WC: 7573
~High school best friends that don’t realize they are in love with each other until time passes scenario.  It’s long fic again, I know, lol.  Also i didn’t really follow today’s prompt but I tried to throw in a little ‘he’s gentle at first but he really can fuck’ ;)
-----------------
Kristoff hadn’t seen her in five years, but he would recognize her anywhere.  Her beauty had been seared into his mind and heart a very long time ago.  He almost didn’t believe his eyes at first, thinking he was daydreaming again like he had been almost every day since the day she left.
There was no mistaking it was Anna.
The love of his life.
The woman who had called him her best friend.
Everything changed when she left their small town to peruse a career in the city.  He had been happy for her, even though his heart was breaking that she was leaving.  She promised that they would stay in touch, and at first, they talked almost daily.  Then the frequent texts dissipated to once-a-month emails and that slowly tapered off over the first year she was away.
He hadn’t had any contact with her directly for four years.
He heard things, of course. You don’t grow up in a small town without the gossip eventually getting around.   She got a herself an amazing job, she got engaged, she got cheated on and had her split with her very public figure of an ex-fiancé blasted through the tabloids…
Kristoff hated hearing about it because even after all this time he was still in love with her.
It was stupid, really. He needed to move on and give himself an actual chance at love, not sitting there pining after someone who had forgotten him a long time ago.  So that’s what he did.  It only took four and a half years, but he finally opened up and went on a date the week before with someone who was pleasant and pretty.  It was hard to see if there was any promise after only one date, but Kristoff had his hopes up and intended to call her that evening to ask her out again.
Then Anna was suddenly there, back in town, the only place he had ever known his entire life, making him feel all those unreciprocated feelings he had for her for so many damn years.
Part of him was angry for all that past hurt coming back so suddenly, but most of all he was simply elated – and incredible anxious – to see her.  He had dreamt about it after all… having her come back and admit that she loved him too and they would get married, stay in their small town, have kids and basically live happily ever after…
Stupid.  People grew up and moved on, why would she be any different.
Then again, why hadn’t he been able to do the same.
He turned around, suddenly irrationally angry again, ready to drop his grocery basket at the end of the aisle and get the hell out of there when he heard his name.
He stopped, torn between pretending he hadn’t heard and needing to talk to her again.  In the end his heart won out over his head and he turned around to see her approaching him with a wide smile that had somehow become more beautiful over the years.
“Kristoff!  I knew that was you!  You haven’t changed a bit!”
She came right up and hugged him before he could get a word out.  The sudden proximity to her shocked him and he didn’t put his arms back around her.  She pulled away quickly, looking embarrassed.
“Sorry,” she muttered, eyes looking down.
Kristoff shook his head, desperate to find words.  “Don’t be,” he started, trying to ignore how hard his heart was beating.  “It’s… it’s good to see you, Anna.  It’s been a long time.”
Her gaze met his again and he was surprised he had forgotten how beautiful her eyes really were.  That amazed him actually, because they had been haunting him for almost five years.
She said, “It has, hasn’t it?”
Kristoff nodded, no idea what to say to that.  He was sure the time felt like nothing to her when to him it had felt like an eternity.
“So, what brings you back to town?” he asked, swiping his hand through his hair wishing they weren’t having this conversation in the middle of the produce section.
She shrugged. “Oh, just needed a break from the big city.”
She was lying.  Her eyes shifted to the left and Kristoff didn’t need to look down to know that her thumbs were now pushed between her first two fingers.  He looked anyway, unsurprised to be right.  She always did that when she fibbed about something.
Kristoff said, “That’s nice.  How long you planning on visiting?”  How long until I can try to get over you again and move on with my fucking life?
“Not sure.” She gave him a wan smile.  “I was thinking just a week, but I might stay long enough for the Spring festival. That was always my favourite.”
“I remember,” Kristoff muttered, caught in the depths of those damn eyes.
Her smile became much more genuine, the smile he used to know so well.  “What about you, Kristoff?  How have things been?  What have you been up to?”
Nothing with no one. Just missing you and lamenting the fact that I should have told you how I felt all those years ago.
“Nothin’ much,” he said.
“Oh, I refuse to believe that!”
You shouldn’t. He shrugged.
“Can we catch up? Please?”  Anna smiled at him.  “I would love to take you for dinner and talk… unless… you have a girlfriend that wouldn’t like that?”
Kristoff shook his head.
Her eyes lit up. “Okay then!  How about tonight?”
“Can’t.  Have dinner at my folks place.”
“Oh okay,” she said, and gave a little pause.
Kristoff knew she was waiting for an invitation but it wasn’t going to be extended to her even if she used to have dinner at his parents place all time when they were younger. He would never hear the end of it, just like five years ago when he let her go without telling her his feelings.  His Mother wouldn’t shut up about it for months.  No way in hell he was inviting that back into his life.
“Tomorrow night then?” she asked.
Five years and those puppy-dog eyes of hers could still get to him.  He found himself nodding before he could even think to get out a ‘no’.
“Wonderful!  Want to meet at the library then we can walk down main street and find a place to eat?”
“Sure.”  He repressed a deep sighed.
“How about seven?”
Kristoff was usually in bed by eight but he nodded.
“Great.  It was so nice seeing you again, Kristoff.”
“Same here, Anna,” he said, lying through his teeth.
*****
“What’s this I hear about Anna being back in town?”
Fucking small town…. Fucking people not able to mind their own fucking business.  Kristoff shrugged, jaw clenched, not looking up from his food.
“You going to see her while she’s here?” his mother pressed.
He sighed and nodded, still not looking up.
“Good,” his mother stated, then left it at that.  Kristoff was grateful not to have to talk about Anna for the remainder of the evening.
——-
“Your business sounds wonderful, Kristoff.”
He shrugged.  It was great sure, but it kept him planted firmly in town for the past five years.  He couldn’t remember the last time he had taken a vacation.  When you worked for yourself in a small centre it was impossible to do much else besides work.
Anna had picked the little Italian place at the end of main street; the one he took her to the night before she left, the night that he was going to tell her how much he loved her until he changed his mind to hear Anna talk about how excited she was to move to the city and he couldn’t bare the thought of holding her back.  Somehow, he knew she was going to end up picking the place that he felt his life had completely stalled.
“Can you show it to me?”
“My hardware store?” Kristoff raised an eyebrow at her.  “It’s… just a boring hardware store.”
“Still, I would love to see it.”
“Alright,” he said slowly with a shrug, then looked back down at his spaghetti and meatballs.
She was silent on the other side of the table, compelling him to look back up after he finished swallowing the bite he had taken.  Her eyes were sad, almost looking like they were on the verge of tears.
That hurt him.
“I’m sorry we lost touch, Kristoff,” she said quietly.  “You deserved a lot better than that.”
“It wasn’t just you, Anna. I could have reached out too.”
“You did.  When things were getting quieter between us, it was always me returning your emails.  Then… well, then I think it was me who left the last one unanswered.”
It was, and it broke my heart all over again.  “I understand, you had your own things going on.”
“That’s the thing…”  She sighed, looking down at her plate and pushing her pasta around with her fork. “I thought I did.  I thought I had everything on lock… great job, new boyfriend, a bunch of friends to hang out with… I wasted three years of my life on someone who ended up cheating on me.  A lot of the friends were his, so when he went, so did they.  I realized I hadn’t done anything since I moved away. I got a job, that’s it.  I was passed over for a promotion twice, so even in those five years I didn’t accomplish anything.  I just… I just wished I would have stayed here.”
Me too.  Instead he said, “You were following your heart, Anna.”
“Was I?”
Her eyes came up and looked at him so pointedly as she said that, he had to wonder what the underlying meaning was.  He had never been very good at reading people, women especially, and she of all people damn well knew that.
Then suddenly Anna was grinning again as if nothing serious had passed between them and resumed talking about everything except their lives for the past five years.
——-
“Really, it’s not much.”
“Kristoff, it’s amazing!”
He couldn’t tell if she genuinely thought that, or if she was blowing smoke up his ass.  At the end of their date he agreed to show her his store after it closed the next evening, and here he was, giving her a tour of the thing that had kept him pinned in town.
He loved it and he hated it at the same time.  It was his dream since he was a young boy, it was his living, and he was very content doing it, but he often thought of Anna, living her life in a city with promises, taking time off with her boyfriend and…
Well, he didn’t want to think about that.
The thought of taking a chance and leaving the town wasn’t on his radar five years ago, and all that time without Anna in his life, especially the last four years he didn’t have any communication with her, he wondered if it really was worth it.  Was a childhood dream really worth missing out on something that could have been the best thing of his life?  Was wanting to stay in his comfortable bubble worth saying goodbye to the person he loved more than anything, even if she didn’t love him back in the same way?
He certainly didn’t feel that right now.
“Thank you, Anna.”  It was all he could think to say.
“It’s so you,” she marvelled, looking around as they slowly walked past the aisles.  “I can see your touch everywhere.”
The genuinely surprised him. His mother had said the very same thing, although it was no surprise she could see it.  His Ma was in the store almost every day.  How could Anna see it though?  He hadn’t heard from her in four years, he had changed a lot since then.
Well, maybe not.  Anna said it herself; he hadn’t changed a bit.  Ans she meant his looks, didn’t she? He was probably broader in the neck and shoulders now with all the work he did, but his hair was unchanged, clothes still the same, he even wore the same style of boots he did back when he was an eighteen-year-old kid.
“I saw your sign on the door.  That’s so sweet that you put your number on there in case anyone needs a part or something in an emergency if the store is closed.”
Kristoff shrugged again. He used to be so comfortable around her and now it just felt weird.  Five years ago, they talked freely with each other about anything and everything.  Now he was watching his words and guarding his emotions, even when she was genuinely being nice to him.  Maybe he was a little more hurt by what happened than he cared to admit.
“Well,” she said, tucking hair behind her ear, suddenly looking nervous.  “It’s early, care to grab a bite to eat?”
“Anna, I don’t think-”
“Please?”
God fucking dammit.   “Okay.”
*****
Five years, two months, thirty-six days, and he was still head over heels in love with her.
Throughout their dinner she had managed to erase all the pain he had felt in that time.  It felt like the good old days, laughing over their meal, sharing a desert, staying so long afterwards wrapped up in conversation that Anna managed to talk him into sharing another desert.
God, he missed this. He missed her.
Maybe this was his second chance.  He couldn’t let her leave again without telling her this time how he felt, and if it was unreciprocated, well that at least he would know.   Perhaps he could actually move on then, and maybe somehow, they could still be friends because the thought of losing her again pained him in a way that genuinely scared him.
“Anyway, I’m just glad Elsa is finally happy, even if she lives in another country right now.”
Kristoff nodded.  As much as he tried to avoid gossip, he had heard it through the grapevine about a year ago that she fell in love with a woman she met while travelling and moved to her country to live with her.
Their house was still there, of course, and Kristoff always avoided going by it if he could.  Too many memories that reminded him of the last time he had been happy.  His apartment was above the hardware store so it was pretty easy to avoid that street, but there were times when he simply had to drive that way.  It was impossible not to look at it when he went by.
“What will you do with the house then if Elsa decided to stay there for good?”
Anna shrugged, suddenly looking pensive as she ran a delicate finger along the rim of her wine glass.  “Not too sure.  I’ll have to talk with Elsa about it, of course.  I… I don’t know.”
“Well, at least you have time to think about it.” Kristoff smiled.  It was no secret that their house was paid for.  When Anna and Elsa’s parents passed away the girls were left with a rather handsome sum of money that was used in the smartest of ways.  Pay off the house and put them through school, even though it was only Elsa who went to college.  Anna had used her school money to move into the city.
“Very true.” Anna smiled back at him.  “I’m thankful I have a place to stay while I figure out what to do.”
What does that mean?  He almost asked it out loud.  Instead, he cleared his throat and took a sip of his water to cover for the fact that his mouth had opened.
Did that mean she was going to stay?  That she was thinking about moving back?  He had wished that for so long… were his dreams about to come true?
“Anyway, thank you for taking me out, Kristoff,” Anna said, grabbing her purse.  Kristoff had already paid their bill, insisting it was his treat since she had paid for dinner the night before.  “I hope I didn’t keep you out too late.  I know you open your store early.”
“Not at all,” he muttered, getting up quickly and pulling Anna’s chair back before she had a chance to try and stand.  He helped her into her coat and then slid on his own and followed her out of the restaurant, inhaling the intoxicating scent of her subtle perfume.
“I’m surprised how many people we went to school with have moved on,” she said more to herself than him, as they pulled their coats tighter against their necks in the cold evening air. “I was hoping to re-connect with some of my old girlfriends but they all live in different cities now.”
“Curse of a small town.” Kristoff sighed, trying not to think about the fact that Anna had left too.
They stood on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant, neither of them knowing what to say to end the night; his store and apartment was almost directly across the street and Anna’s house was only two blocks to the South.  It was Anna who thought of something first.
As always.
“Thank you again for keeping me company, Kristoff.  With Elsa being gone… I don’t know anyone our age in town anymore.”
“It’s been nice catching up.”  He meant it, even though he was scared his heart was going to get broken again.
“Well, have a good sleep.  Mind if I pop by the store tomorrow?” Her eyes lit up.  “Hey!  I could bring you lunch!”
He wanted to tell her that he ate his lunch near his till every day since he couldn’t seem to find anyone to help him work the cash register on any regular basis, but he bit it back.   The thought of her bringing him lunch at work was exactly something he had fantasied about for years.
“That… would be nice. Thank you, Anna.”
She beamed at him before she hugged him.  This time he did not hesitate to wrap her up in a tight embrace.
——-
Anna had brought him some delicious sandwiches and home-made potato salad for lunch and they ate behind the till while they chatted in between Kristoff helping customers.
He asked her if she was still bored and if wanted to go for dinner that night.  She agreed.
They went for dinner and it was much like the night before.  They spent three hours talking; about the past, about the time they had been apart, even their opinions on politics.  Nothing was off the table and nothing was held back.  It was as if those five years apart didn’t exist except for the fact that they were older.
She hugged him longer that night and he was glad she accepted his offer to walk her home.  She hugged him again before she retreated into her house.
The next day she was back at his work with lunch even though she never said she was going to bring it. Kristoff happily ate the soup from the thermos and the fresh loaf of French bread from the bakery with butter. It was miles better than the PB&J he had packed for himself.
He was helpless to ask her out for dinner again and unsurprised that she suggested him coming over to her old place instead for a home-cooked meal.  He agreed then called his Ma after Anna left and tell her he wasn’t going to make it.  She didn’t even ask the reason, she just said ‘Good’.  There was no way his Mom didn’t know that he had been out with Anna every night since he’d last had dinner at his folk’s place.  Small town, after all.
Kristoff told Anna he would bring desert and ran to the little bakery in the afternoon before it closed when his Dad popped in and Kristoff asked him to watch the till.   Looking for anything chocolate, he was happy to see that there were exactly two of their decadent chocolate cupcakes left.  One and a half for Anna, and half for him, like it usually was.  He purchased them and ran them to his fridge upstairs for the remainder of the workday.
On his walk over he felt an odd sense of déjà vu.  It took a minute to place it but he realized it was because he had day dreamed this scenario before.  Not cupcakes, but he definitely had something… chocolates and flowers.  In his dreams they were always going on a date so he always brought her flowers.
That thought suddenly dampened his mood, then Anna opened the door with her gorgeous smile and his spirits were once again lifted.
They had an amazing evening. Apparently, Anna had learned how to cook quite well in the time she was away and the lasagna she made was the best one Kristoff ever had in his life… even compared to his Ma’s, but he would never tell her that.
After dinner they sat on the couch while watching a movie on television.  They half payed attention, talking during the commercials and making comments during the film, just like they used to do when they were younger.
There was a pang in his heart about all the time they had lost.  He should have reached out again and continued to email her no matter how much it pained him.  Yet, that was in the past, and he was honestly having a great time in the present.
With the night wrapping up Kristoff tried to think of a way to spend tomorrow with her too.  The only thing he seemed to be able to come up with was to return the favour and invite her over to his little apartment above his shop for his version of a home-cooked meal.
Anna accepted and Kristoff walked home with a smile on his face.
——-
Kristoff’s cooking style was rather rustic, but he wanted to challenge himself and make something more difficult.   Anna loved seafood, and while they were hundreds of miles from any ocean, he found what he was looking for in the frozen section of the grocery store.
It was just a recipe he picked out of one of his mother’s old cookbooks.  He’d never heard of it, and he had no idea how it would taste, but Coquille St. Jacques was French so it must be fancy.
His Ma agreed to run the till for him while he retired early to get the food and then make it.   Kristoff was thankful she never said anything on the matter but she definitely gave him a look that said he better not waste this opportunity.  Having spent so much time with Anna the past few days, he had no intention of doing so.  In fact, he was going to tell her how he felt tonight.
After the food was prepped and his apartment cleaned, he jumped in the shower then dressed in his nicest pair of jeans and a light sweater.   He set the table, candles included, before starting the dish he had chosen.  It looked harder than it actually was and he put it together in no time.
Anna knocked on his door just as he finished.
She greeted him with a warm hug and they chatted while Kristoff poured them each a glass of wine and finished making dinner.  Anna helped, washing and ripping up the lettuce for a salad.
Another glass of wine was consumed over the dinner that Anna raved about.  To Kristoff it wasn’t all that special, but Anna seemed to love it so that was all that mattered.  He had forgotten to light the damn candles of course, and it went unmentioned by Anna and unnoticed by him until they were almost finished their meal.  Probably for the best anyway.   He was getting more and more nervous about trying to explain how he felt about her.
After dinner, another bottle of wine was opened and they took it to the couch, giggling over stories of their youth and the shenanigans they used to get up to together.   Quite a pair they were.  He knew from the rosy hue to her cheeks that she was a little tipsy from the wine.   He was too.  It didn’t stop them from having another glass though, as they talked and reminisced.
Eventually there was a lull in the conversation and Kristoff cleared his throat, focusing his thoughts and opening his mouth, ready to confess his feelings, when Anna suddenly burst into tears, startling the hell out of him.
“I’m sorry, Kris.  I can’t do this,” she sobbed, setting the empty wine glass on the coffee table.
“Wh-what?  What are you talking about?  Anna?”  He could barely think through this sudden shift in her mood.  “Did… did I do something?”
“No, not at all.  I just…” Anna sniffed.  “I thought I would be able to be friends with you again, but I can’t.”
“What?  Why?  Anna, what…”
“It was one of the reasons I moved away.  I couldn’t stand the thought of being that girl you put in the friend-zone.”
Kristoff’s eyes went wide. “Woah, woah, back up a second! You think that I put you in the friend zone?!”
Anna nodded, looking down into her lap.  “I told you one night how I really felt about you.”
“Anna, hold on.  I’m completely lost here.  What are you talking about?”
“That night we threw a party at the house when Elsa was out of town.”
“The summer after we graduated?”
Anna nodded again, eyes still down.  “I told you that night.  I told you… that I was in love with you.”
Kristoff’s heart started to hammer in his chest.  “Anna, you were so drunk.  You told everyone that night that you loved them.”
“Yeah, I know I did, but then when everyone was gone and it was just us laying on my bed and you were holding me and I… I told you how I felt.”
Kristoff’s mind went back in time.  He was fairly drunk that night too but he remembered it clearly because he had desperately wished her slurred confessions were true.  How could he have known that it wasn’t just drunken rambling?  She literally hugged the guy that delivered a dozen pizza’s and told him she loved him.
‘I love you Kristoff. I always have.  Ever since the day we met in middle school.’
‘Anna, you’ve had a bit too much to drink.  Just go to sleep okay?   I’ll be right here.  I’m not going anywhere.’
‘No, Kristoff.  Did you hear what I said?  I love you….’
She had passed out with a snore right after that.  Kristoff honestly didn’t think too much about it and fell asleep shortly after himself.  Nothing was said in the morning.  Everything was back to normal in the morning.  Anna never breathed a word about what she had said to him.  Then six months later she told him she was moving to the city.
She said, “I just… I tried so many times to tell again, but I was too afraid of actually hearing the rejection.”
Kristoff snapped back to reality.  “Anna… listen, I had no idea that-”
“All the time I spent with you after that was hard for me.  I loved you so much but I knew you just saw me as a friend.  I just needed to get away and breathe and figure out what I was going to do.”
“Loved?” he whispered   His eyes were unable to focus on Anna anymore.  She had loved me?
“I even tried to tell you on the night I was leaving.  I was having fun because I always have fun when I’m with you, but inside my heart was breaking.  I just thought maybe if I said it one more time, that somehow you might actually tell me that you loved me back.  I don’t know. I should have, maybe.”
He couldn’t speak.  His heart ached for all the time lost, for not telling her his feelings when he had the chance.
“But I chickened out and I left and I was miserable no matter how many times I told myself I was happy,” she continued.  “Then I come back here and I realized how much I missed you in my life even if you never thought of me the way I thought about you.  I thought I could do this.  I thought we could really be friends.  Now I understand that I cannot continue on like this, loving you with everything that I have and knowing that it’ll never go anywhere. It hurts too much.”
Kristoff’s vision was blurry and he realized there were tears in his eyes.  Anna looked up to him at his silence, clearly surprised by his reaction.
His body fell back against the couch.  “All this time…”
“Kris… I’m… I’m sorry.”
He looked back into Anna’s eyes and gave her a gentle smile.  “I am the one who needs to apologize.  It’s all my fault, Anna.  None of this would have happened, if I had just told you first.”
“What do you mean?”
“I should have told you how I felt long before that party, Anna. Years before.   I could give you a million excuses for being too afraid to tell you how I felt, but honestly none of that really seems to matter right now.  Anna… I was in love with you too.”
“You… you were?” Fresh tears escaped her eyes.
Kristoff nodded. “Still am.”
“You are?”
“I never stopped loving you, Anna.”
“I never stopped loving you either.”
——-
“Hi Ma.  Can you and Dad look after the shop today?”
His mom was silent on the other end of the line for a beat.  “Is everything okay, Kristoff?”
“Yeah.  It’s great, actually.  I had Anna over last night and we ended up just talking about everything until sunrise.  She just fell asleep and I’m dead on my feet.  You don’t mind, do you?”
“Of course not!  We’ll be there in an hour to open up.   You don’t worry about a thing.  We’ll take care of it and you catch up on your rest.”
“Thanks.” He sighed.  Man, I am tired.
“I’m happy for you, son.”
“Thanks Mom.  I’ll come down when I wake up, okay?”
Kristoff said goodbye and hung up, then wasted no time in sliding back under his covers beside Anna. She was on his side of the bed but he did not care one little bit.  She gave him a soft hum and rolled over, pressing her fully clothed body against his.  He thought she was already asleep again when she mumbled.
“I love you so much, Kristoff.  Thank you for staying up all night talking with me.”
Getting all their feelings out in the open, good and bad, had been cathartic for both of them. Definitely something they both needed.  By the time they were talked out, they were lying in bed together and holding one another.  Anna fell asleep a moment later and Kristoff pressed a kiss to her forehead before he called his Mother.
“I’m glad we did, Anna.” Kristoff smiled at the ceiling and closed his eyes. “And I love you, too. More than anything.”
*****
Kristoff had a quick shower and ran downstairs to talk to his parents shortly after two in the afternoon, leaving Anna dozing in his bed.
He had never slept so peacefully.
“Thanks again for helping me out,” Kristoff said again, after they chatted about the goings-on in the store that he had missed.
“No problem, son.” Cliff smiled.  “And don’t worry about the weekend.  We know what we’re doing.”
Kristoff looked between his parents, completely confused.
“It’s just that you need a break,” Bulda continued.  “And there is no better way for you to do that than take that wonderful woman away for the weekend.”
Bulda pulled a folded piece of paper from her pocket and handed it to Kristoff.  He unfolded it quickly and read what was on the page.  It was a booking confirmation for a small but luxurious cabin up in the mountains only a two-hour drive away.
“Mom, Dad, this… I can’t, this is too much.”
“Pah,” his Dad scoffed. “It’s nothing we can’t handle. Plus, it’s only two nights and I got a deal because it was going to be empty this weekend until I booked it last minute this morning.”
“We suggest you run upstairs, pack a bag, and go enjoy yourself for a few days,” His Ma added. “You need this, son.”
Kristoff nodded, a lump forming in his throat.  He did need it.  He gave each of his parents a fierce hug and ran back upstairs to tell Anna.
*****
Kristoff could not stop staring at her.   The look on her face when he woke her up and told her where they were going, her excitement in his truck with her non-stop talk on the drive up, the gasp and look of awe she just gave them as they walked into the amazing cabin… he just loved her so much.
One of the things they had made sure to agree on when they talked was not to lament the missing time, only to make up for it going forward, and while Kristoff found that a little difficult, he did agree with it wholeheartedly.
That was why as soon as he set down all the bags and shut the door, he took three large strides to where Anna was standing with her back to him, turned her around, and kissed her.
The kiss was soft at first, testing the waters and making sure Anna was ready for it, then she started kissing him back and he had his answer.
Their mouths parted in unison, tongues hungrily tasting each other.  Anna’s arms came up and wrapped around Kristoff’s neck, pulling him closer to her.  He returned in kind, hands sliding down to her hips and yanking her flush against him.
Anna pulled back and gasped, throwing her head back.  “Oh, God, Kristoff, I have wanted this for so long!”
“Me too,” he said through a sigh, and dipped his head down to her exposed neck, kissing the soft, taunt flesh.
Her hands wound into his hair and she pulled his head up to meet her lips again, kisses becoming even more intense as their hands gripped and pulled at one another to bring them closer.
“This,” she started, breathless, talking between their kisses. “This is what I was thinking about the whole ride up here.  I couldn’t wait… and now that…. Oh my God, I can’t… I can’t wait anymore Kris.”
“Neither can I,” Kristoff moaned, grinding himself against her, desperate for more contact against his erection.
Anna pulled back from his lips.  “I need you now.”
“Now?”
“Right now.”
Kristoff grabbed her waist and lifted her off the ground as she wound her legs around him, kissing and blindly making his way over to… well something.  The first thing their tangled bodies found, was a sofa table set against the back of the couch.  Luckily there was nothing on top and Kristoff set Anna down on it and pulled back from her lips to see what he was doing.
He started by shrugging out of his coat as Anna did.  Then her hands beat his to her leggings, pulling them down and sliding them off. Kristoff undid the button and fly on his jeans and slipped them down with his underwear as he watched Anna kick the leggings away.
He stood there with his pants at his ankles, taking her in.  He didn’t think he had ever actually longed for something so much in his entire life.
“You’re not wearing underwear,” he growled, reaching forward and stroking her entrance, marvelling at hot and wet she was.
“For this very reason,” Anna panted.  “Please, Kris.  I need you right now.”
He quickly aligned himself, needing it as much as she did.  Anna cried out when he pushed himself into her, a sound so passionate that it sent shivers down his spine.  It was almost like an out of body experience, doing something he had thought about for so long.  He thought it would be best to take his time and savour this first experience together, only Anna had other ideas.
“Kristoff, I know you are thinking you need to be gentle, but I need a whole hell of a lot more than that right now.”
He knew exactly what she was asking and he was on board with all of it.  “You want me to fuck you, Anna?”
Anna had heard him swear her whole life, he had heard her do it too, but they had never talked to each other like this with love and intimacy happening between them.  Her eyes went wide and her teeth clenched.
“Yes,” she hissed.  “Fuck me, Kris.”
He grinned back at her and thrust himself hard and deep, ramping up to a feverish pace.  Anna half screamed half moaned something incomprehensible with her head snapped back and her eyes jammed shut, har hands had his forearms in a death grip.  The only sound in the room was their bodies slapping together, heavy breathing and grunts of effort and pleasure.
It wasn’t all that long before she spoke through clenched teeth.  “Oh God… yes!  I’m… holy shit… I’m…”
Kristoff didn’t let his pace falter until he felt her orgasm start.  She made a guttural sound, pulling up her head and looking into his eyes, letting out a long and strangled ‘fuck’.  He slowed to let her down easy then realized he was too close.  That pace came back to him in a second and he drove towards his own end as Anna let out a long wail.  But it wasn’t just any scream, it was his name, and hearing that did him in just as much as the feeling of finally having sex with her.
*****
Kristoff could only describe their next time coming together as love making.  It was new for him and it was special.  He thought Anna maybe didn’t feel the same until she told him through slow and passionate kisses, that she had always dreamt about what it meant to be made love to and how happy she was to experience it for the first time with him.
It was slow, lips trailing lazily across each others skin.  Anna was below him, soft gasps as he made steady and relaxed thrusts, savouring the feeling of her.
He was still so keyed up from finally putting his mouth on her and getting to taste her that he thought he would be more desperate.  His cock was throbbing so hard by the time she came against his mouth with a strained cry that figured he might have to disappoint her.  And yet they had been at this for a long time, and while it felt more amazing than anything he could ever imagine, he was now confident he could bring her to climax again.   Perhaps how they came together so furiously earlier afforded him this extra stamina.
“This is everything,” Anna sighed, hands caressing his back, holding him tightly against her.
“Yes,” Kristoff whispered against her skin. “It really is.”
They were in the spacious master bedroom, the room dark except for the small fire in the corner fireplace. It made the space warm enough that they lay on top of the covers, enjoying being unhindered by them.
They left the cabin shortly after they came together for the first time to get groceries for the weekend from the nearby town.  No sooner was all the food put away and Kristoff was kissing her again, unable to help himself.  They had gone upstairs, he had lit a fire, and then he aimed to be with Anna the way that he always dreamed of.
His heart was so full, his mind so content, he didn’t think he had ever known a moment of peace like this before.   He pulled back from her grasp to look down at her, hair played wildly across her pillow, eyes hooded and smiling up at him in a way he’d never seen before.  His heart ached.
“Do you want to go back to the city, Anna?  I’ll go with you.”
She shook her head.  “My mind is made up.  I’m moving back.”
“Yeah?”
Anna smiled at him.  “Everything I’ve ever wanted is at home.”
“Home…” Kristoff smiled.
“I want to be with you forever, Kristoff.”
“You’ll marry me then?”
“Of course, I will.”  She sighed with passion, and pulled him down for a kiss.
That did him in.  Kristoff picked up his pace, leaning back as Anna slid a hand between them to massage her clit.  He waited for her to get there before he pulled his last restraint, crying out along with her as pleasure rocked through them.
He stayed with her for a moment before he muttered, “I want to be with you forever, too.”  Then he moved her to lay beside her.
“How many kids do you think we’ll have?”
Kristoff chuckled. They both knew from growing up together that they both desired to have a family someday.  It came up again when they got their feelings out in the open; Nothing had changed in those five years.  They both wanted a family.  A big one.
“Four, maybe?  Or is that too much?”
“Not at all.” Anna smiled at him, rolling over to place her head in the crook of his shoulder and arm caressing his chest.
“I was thinking we would have a baby or two and adopt as well.”
“My thoughts exactly.” Anna sighed happily, running her fingers through the smatter of hair on his chest.
“Well, whatever happens, whatever the future has in store for us, I am just over the moon that we get to face it together.”
Anna shifted up on her elbow and looked down at him.  “You took the words right out of my mouth.”  She grinned then kissed him.
——-
A MONTH LATER
Anna set their lunch on the till and came around the counter to give Kristoff a kiss.
“Thanks, baby.” He smiled, setting down the stack of invoices he was organizing.
“Any luck with the ad yet?”
Kristoff nodded.  “A guy called this morning.  He’ll be here any minute to look at the apartment.”
“Oh good.  Hope we can rent it to him.”
Kristoff had moved into Anna’s childhood home within a few days after returning from that amazing weekend up in that cabin.  They would stay there for now until Elsa decided if she was going to come home or not.  The longer it went on the more it seemed as though she would stay with her girlfriend.  If that was the case, Anna and Kristoff aimed to just buy Elsa out of her share of the house.
Some renovations to the store had to be made; the door leading upstairs to the apartment was sealed off and a new one created on the outside wall with a freshly poured concrete walkway leading from the sidewalk for the entry.  The work was almost effortless with tools and material at an arms reach.  Since no one would be living in the apartment they might as well rent it and get the income.
That and Kristoff needed a little extra cash for the engagement ring he had picked out for Anna.
The front door chime went off and a young man with light brown hair and amused eyes walked in, his gaze scanning the store quickly before spotting Kristoff and Anna at the register.
“Hi there!”  He grinned as he walked over. “Are you Kristoff?”
“I am,” he responded, offering his hand.
“Sven,” he said, shaking Kristoff’s hand.  “It’s nice to meet you.”
“So, you’re new in town?” Kristoff didn’t know what it was, but he immediately had a good feeling about this guy.
“Yup, just the day before.  I used to work a bit North of here until they shut down the mill.  Not much other work so I came down here looking for a fresh start.  Speaking of which, I happened to notice you have a help wanted sign on your door?”
Kristoff nodded.  It had been there for so long that he honestly forgot about it.   He hadn’t had anyone come in asking for a job except for two years ago when he hired a teenager off the street who never did show up for his first shift.
“As a matter of fact, I am.”
“Cool.” Sven grinned. “Full-time or part-time?”
“Uh, well, I actually hadn’t thought about-”
“Doesn’t matter, anyway.”  He cocked his thumb at his chest.  “I’m your man.  I’m a quick learner and a really hard worker.  You won’t be disappointed in hiring me.  Or letting me rent the apartment.”
Kristoff could not help but smile.  “You haven’t even seen the place yet.”
“Can’t be any worse than the shithole trailer I was living in before.”
Kristoff looked over his shoulder at Anna.  She smiled wide at him, giving him a subtle nod.
“Alright,” Kristoff said, offering his hand once again.  He really did seem to immediately like this guy.  “The place, and the job, are yours.”
“Noice.”  Sven shook Kristoff’s hand again.  “You and I are going to become best friends, I can tell.”

Kristanna smut week 2020 day 1: In a family way

Anna and Kristoff want to start a family.
Anna was nervous. She knew she had no reason to be. It’s not like they hadn’t discussed the possibility of this before, it’s just that, they had only spoken in hypotheticals. What if…? No, she wouldn’t let herself be consumed by doubt. She needed to just go for it. Anna took a breath and turned the handle of her chamber door.
“Kristoff?” she called, hoping her husband was already in their shared room. If she wasn’t able to tell him right now, she feared she would lose her nerve and just drop the question entirely. She didn’t want that.
“In here!” he replied from the bathroom. He stepped into the bedroom and smiled when he saw her, her nerves melting away as he approached her with open arms. “I missed you,” he murmured, bringing her into his chest and inhaling deeply. She relaxed into his hold, always able to find comfort in her strong mountain man.
Despite her royal obligations these past few years, they were never closer, Anna always making time for her king, and Kristoff making sure that his ice harvesting trips never kept him away for too terribly long. He had even begun to enjoy some of their royal duties as king and queen, namely the charity events they held. Anna would always stand back and watch with proud eyes as Kristoff doted over the children there, making sure everyone got their share of food and blankets during the cold winter months. He loathed some of the formalities: the meeting of other royal couples and the large banquets, but Kristoff had found his place as king. He was a trailblazer for education, leading the conversations as they met with school teachers about what they could do to help the children of Arendelle thrive. He opened the castle to a family whose house was destroyed in a fire, and it certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Anna when he led the family’s three adorable children out to meet the reindeer and participated in their games of hide and seek in the castle gardens.
It was moments like these that made Anna so certain that she wanted to start a family with him. Obviously they needed an heir to the throne, but it was so much more than that. It was how their love for each other grew every day. Sometimes she felt almost selfish for keeping all of this love to herself. She knew that, given the chance, Kristoff would be an amazing father who could share that love with a beautiful family.
It was there in Kristoff’s arms that Anna gave into herself. Nerves aside, she knew what her husband’s response would be to her statement. “Kristoff, I want to start a family.”
Kristoff drew back. At first glance, his eyes showed fear, but Anna quickly realized that they sparkled not with fear, but with hope. “I know we’ve talked about this, but you mean, now? You’re ready?” he asked. A smile began to pull at his lips.
Anna nodded, feeling the beginnings of tears in her eyes. Why was she ever nervous?
Kristoff grabbed her and twirled her around, something he often did with ease. Hearing the sparkling laugh it got out of his wife always made his heart soar, but this time, it was him who was laughing. He seemed so giddy. He placed her back on the ground and pulled her into a strong, loving kiss, one that sent a shiver down her spine. “I love you so much,” he murmured into her mouth.
Just as she was starting to melt into the kiss, he pulled back again. “And, you’re sure, right? Because I mean we don’t have to try for anything right away we can still—“
Anna cut him off with a chaste kiss and laughed. Always looking out for her. Always making sure she was okay. She had never been more sure of anything in her entire life. “I want to start trying tonight, Kristoff. I’m positive. I love you.”
“We’re going to have a baby,” Kristoff whispered in her ear. Anna smiled at his words. She nodded and grabbed his face, gently tilting his chin so that they were gazing at each other.
Kristoff smiled and kissed her lips, but he didn’t stay there for long. His lips moved to her cheek, her ear, and then down her neck, taking root at a place that made Anna’s breath hitch in her throat. His hands ran the length of her back, her dainty fingers trailing feather-like touches up and down his strong arms. She shuddered as she felt his fingers sneak to the ties of her dress. He had become somewhat of an expert at the complicated knots of her dresses, never once removing his mouth from her neck as he fiddled with the strings. Soon the dress came undone, and it pooled onto the floor around Anna’s ankles.
Kristoff stepped back and sighed. Anna noticed the bulge in his pants and smiled, pride swelling in her chest.
“All we’ve done is kiss,” she giggled, pointing to his pants.
Kristoff jokingly glared at her and pulled off his top in one smooth motion. “Have you seen who I’m kissing?” he retorted.
Now it was Anna’s turn to blush and stare. The definition of muscles in his arms and chest, the soft roundness of his stomach—it all sent a spike of desire straight to her core.
A lot of times their sex was rough and feverish. Both spent frequent nights tied up with their respective duties, meaning that they were eager and ready for bed by the end of the day. They were both impatient, stripping away each other’s clothes and fucking passionately under the moonlight, slipping quickly into slumber immediately afterwards.
Tonight, however, as Kristoff guided Anna over to the bed, she noticed that he was being slower, more deliberate. She noticed herself doing the same, the overwhelming love they both felt spilling over into long, gentle kisses and overjoyed giggles. Anna felt like she was glowing, the thought of creating a life with this man pulsing through her like waves of warm light.
Delicate fingers guided Anna’s bustier off of her. She was bare before him, the only thing protecting her from the chill of the night air being her lacy panties.
His eyes were hungry, scanning over her body. He laid her down, gently, placing a kiss on her cheek. He kissed down her neck once more.
Anna squirmed beneath him, a breathy moan escaping her when his lips lightly trailed over the peak of her breast. Kristoff was so loving with his touches, soft lips and gentle tongue lapping at her nipple. Anna’s hands flew up to take hold in his hair as he worked. Her hips bucked up against him as his teeth tugged at one of her peaks and his fingers pinched and rolled the other. His tongue flicked against her nipple while his hand took her breast into loving squeezes, kneading it in his calloused palm and using his fingers to play with the erect bud.
“I love you so much.” The words tumbled out of her as she pulled Kristoff back up to capture him in her mouth. They kissed, lips dancing together as hands roamed and explored. Anna’s slender fingers traced patterns into the definition of his back. She loved the expanse of skin on his back, all worn and strong from years of labor, yet still soft and warm to the touch.
Kristoff groaned as she bit and tugged at his bottom lip. Her hands slipped up into his hair and she ruffled and gave it a slight tug, relishing the hitch in his breathing. His hair was always a bit long and shaggy, but she adored how it looked when it fell into his face, and she loved how it always gave her a place to grab onto when they made love. Her lips traveled to his ear and she exhaled hot breath there, murmuring all of the things she was going to do to him and how much she loved him. Kristoff fell against her in a heap and she rolled him over triumphantly. If she ever wanted control, all she had to do was whisper into Kristoff’s ear and he was gone, turned into a pool of panting and thrusting hips aching for pressure. She loved watching as he squirmed, loved watching the way his cock strained against his pants for her. She loved him, and she wanted to make him feel that love.
Anna worked her way down his chest. She stopped to suck at that spot near the waistline of his pants that made him twitch before finally taking his pants and undergarments in her hand and sliding them down his legs.
Kristoff clamored out of his clothes, the patience he exhibited before dissipating into need. He laid obediently down on the bed. A high pitched moan escaped his mouth as Anna looked him in the eyes and licked a tongue up his shaft. At first, Kristoff had been shy about the softer, higher-pitched moans that left him, but as the two explored each other, Kristoff was able to relax and shed the masculine image he felt the need to portray as king and ice harvester. With her, he was just Kristoff, and he could let his voice come out in a kaleidoscope of tones and pitches.
She loved the way his eyes fluttered closed and his head threw back the second she brought a tongue to his member. The way his cock grew and pulsed in her mouth was intoxicating, and the taste of the precum that leaked out of the head had grown to be something that she lapped up eagerly each time she sucked his cock. She moved her mouth up and down, his fingers tangling themselves in her fiery red hair.
“Yes, God, fuck,” the words tugged themselves out of Kristoff’s lips, strained and airy as he panted and moaned to the rhythm of his sweet Anna’s mouth. Suddenly he pulled at her hair, coaxing her up off of his cock.
Anna was left with her mouth open, a thin line of saliva still clinging to the tip of her tongue. Kristoff guided her back up to him and took her face in his hands. His cheeks were flushed and his hair was tousled and messy, but Anna didn’t think she had ever thought he was sexier.
“We’re going to have a baby,” he whispered again, the excitement he felt something too magical to be kept inside.
Anna giggled and nodded, planting a kiss on his forehead.
Kristoff took her in his arms, wrapping her up and breathing her in. He took in his beautiful Anna, feeling the cold tip of her nose pressed against his chest, the sensation of warm air from her breath tickling his chest.
She felt safe and warm and bright. She felt like she was home. And soon, this home would be joined by another soul, another life. A child that shared the best in her and the best in him. A strong, gentle, spunky little lifeform that they would share and love. Together.
No words needed to be spoken between the two. Kristoff laid Anna down on the bed, pressing her gently beneath him. She was enveloped in warmth and strength, the smell of ice, pine, and winter skies circling her body. She felt so tiny beneath him, so powerless, and yet, this is where she felt the safest. Kristoff’s soft lips grazed her neck and she giggled. She felt him smile against her skin and he playfully nipped at her. There was so much joy between them.
Silence befell the two once more for a moment as Kristoff straightened himself and positioned himself at her entrance. He could feel her warmth and he had to bite his lip to keep himself from diving into her. Their eyes met and she smiled, a sight that melted his heart.
“Are you ready?” It was a simple question, one that had been asked in this context before, and yet, it had never carried this weight. Anna nodded in response, and then, he was inside of her.
It was slow and deliberate. Kristoff lowered himself so that he could press his lips to her cheek and caress her body beneath him as he thrusted into her.
Her hands grasped at his strong back as he hit a spot inside of her that made her hips buck up in pleasure. Moans slipped from her lips with increasing frequency, something that would have once made her worry that they would be heard, but now that they were married, she didn’t care if the whole castle knew how good he made her feel.
“Fuck,” he whispered. He pulled up to gaze into her eyes. “I love you so much.”
She couldn’t stop smiling, even as he hit that place inside of her with each thrust of his hips that made her cry out in pleasure. He was speeding up, his thighs hitting hers with a delicious slapping sound and his hand bracing himself against the mattress so he could angle himself in the way he knew she liked. Anna silently thanked whoever had made this bed so damn sturdy.
“Are- are you sure about this? I’m getting close. I-”
Anna silenced him, pulling him down so that his lips were pressed against her own. “I love you so much, Kristoff. I’ve never been more sure about anything in my entire life. Please, come inside of me.”
Kristoff placed a quick kiss on her forehead. He thrusted into her at a speed that never failed to impress Anna, and soon, he was gone, for the first time not having to worry about pulling out or finishing into his hand. He emptied himself inside of her, hot fluids filling her in the most delightful way. She would certainly need a shower after this, but for now, she reveled in the feeling of him filling her in the most intimate way.
Kristoff grunted and collapsed on top of her as he came, thighs twitching and cock pulsing as the steady stream of cum came to an end.
“That was-”
“Amazing,” Anna said, finishing his thought.
He held her tightly and nuzzled into her neck.
After a quick shower, Anna and Kristoff were all cuddled in bed. Usually, they would have fallen asleep by now, but the two were talking and laughing, coming up with baby names and talking about where to put the nursery.
“You know,” Anna began, Kristoff’s hands holding her dainty ones and stroking them with his thumbs. “Just because you came inside of me once doesn’t mean I’m going to get pregnant.”
“I know. That’s why I was thinking, if you didn’t mind, we could try again tomorrow morning, and tomorrow evening, and well, any time, really.”
Anna giggled at Kristoff’s sheepish smirk and placed a kiss on his nose. “I would love that.”

Kristanna Week Day 5: BLUE
Harry Potter AU
Rating: K
Words: 601
It’s within the same courtyard they met that Kristoff sees her again. When he does, he stops dead in his tracks.
It had been months since they had spoken. The summer that used to be so lively, one of Kristoff’s favorite times, had been dull and empty. There were no letters, no new bits of chocolate treats to try, no excited eager knocks on the family door.
There had been absolute silence between them, avoiding each other since that night at the Yule Ball.
Seeing her now was like a punch to the gut, as it always was. Now, though, she was completely alone.
There had been a rumor, one that turned out to be true, that her and Hans had broken up. A nasty one at that.
It had left Hans in the hospital wing with a broken nose.
Kristoff had smiled at the news, not of their break up but the git getting what he rightfully deserved.
When he found out why though, of how Hans had been cheating behind Anna’s back, the bit of happiness left him completely.
No one, especially Anna deserved that.
Anna sits on a bench, book in hand but Kristoff knows she isn’t reading it. She hasn’t turned a single page since he’s stopped to see her.
Taking a deep breath, he walks out to the courtyard and towards her.
It was about time he fixed this.
The crunching of his shoes in the snow catches her attention, and he doesn’t realize how much he has missed seeing her eyes till he sees them look at him. Wide eyed and completely shocked.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
Kristoff clears his throat, “I’m um...I’m sorry.”
Anna tilts her head, confused, “Sorry?”
“Yeah,” Kristoff says, looking at his shoes, “I...I never should have said what I did at the ball. About Hans...I…” He wants to tell her she was right, that he had been completely jealous of him but--
“You were right though.”
“Yeah, but it wasn’t worth hurting you over it.” He says, looking back at her. She’s smiling now and oh how he has missed her smile.
“I would’ve gotten hurt anyways.” Anna says with a shrug.
“Still, you didn’t deserve that. From me or him.”
“Thank you.” She says, standing up. “And I’m sorry too. I should’ve listened…”
“No, no it’s ok. To be honest, I wouldn’t have listened to me either.”
That makes her huff a laugh, and it makes Kristoff smile.
A cold, winter breeze blows through and it makes Anna shiver. Without thinking, Kristoff takes off his scarf and wraps it around her. His scarf is so large that half her face is hidden behind it, wrapped tightly in it’s warmth.
He doesn’t miss how her cheeks turn a rosey red, his heart thundering in his chest at the notion that she is, in fact, blushing.
When he finishes, he tugs gentle at the ends of the scarf, staring intently at it as he speaks. “And you were right too.”
“About what?”
He looks up and into her eyes, “I was jealous.”
Anna’s eyes widen, “You--you were?”
Kristoff nods, losing his courage to speak as he watches her take it in. As he does, a snowflake falls onto her cheek, and then several more begin to fall around them as it begins to snow.
But he only has eyes for her as she looks to his eyes, then his lips, then back up. How she leans towards him just so, Kristoff following her lead as she pulls his scarf down enough for him to find her lips with his own.

Kristanna Week 2020 @kristannaweek Rating: T Ship: Kristoff/Anna Day 2: Orange
Tags: Post-Frozen 2, Canonverse, Cuddles and Kisses
Read on AO3
Queen Anna loved autumn. The temperature was just right as a calm breeze through the streets of Arendelle. This year… the season was a bit bittersweet. It’d been a year since Elsa left Arendelle, a year since Anna had become queen. There were times when she wanted the comfort of her sister and couldn’t have it.
In those times, she was thankful for fiance. Kristoff could read her like a book, seeming to understand when she was upset. When she needed his comfort.
That night was no different.
Kristoff wrapped a quilt around her shoulders, pressing a kiss to her cheek as he leant over the back of the couch. He’d found her in the study when she was trying to hide from the rest of the castle staff. Her love didn’t question anything. He simply began tending to her immediately.
Anna watched in a trance as he moved around the room, quickly lighting a fire before pulling up a stool for her feet. She nearly swooned at his care.
“Kristoff… You don’t have to do all of this,” she murmured.
He smiled, shaking his head. “I know. I’ll be right back, okay? Just--uh--Just stay comfortable, alright?”
Anna did as she was told. She snuggled into the seat, taking in the warmth that hugged her. He quilt kept her toasty with the fire running nearby. She could feel her heart swelling. God, she loved Kristoff. And loved how much he loved her.
When he returned, there was a cup in his hand. Anna blinked in surprise, glancing at the cup and his face. “What’s this?” she asked.
Kristoff took a seat next to her. “Warm cocoa for my chocolate loving lady,” he said with a grin.
Smiling, Anna snorted at his words before gratefully taking the glass cup from him. “Thank you, honey.”
He slid into the spot next to her, placing his arm around her on the back of the couch. Anna gladly snuggled into his side. “I miss Elsa,” she admitted.
Kristoff didn’t react. Only pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “I know. I miss her too.”
“But, I’m glad I have you… and I can’t wait to marry you in a few weeks.”
He hummed at that. “Me too. I want to call you my wife, Anna.”
Anna looked up at him. The orange hue from the fire glowed on his skin. How lucky she was that her life slid into place… How lucky she was to have Kristoff. She loved him so much. She wanted a family with him. Wanted forever with him.
“Are you sure?” she asked, smiling lightly.
He snorted. “What’s that mean?”
“Life will be different once we’re married, won’t it?”
Kristoff scratched his cheek, shaking his head. “Not really. I’ve lived here for four years. The only difference is--uh--well, we’ll get to share a room, right?”
Anna giggled at that. “That’s true.”
Taking another sip of her cocoa, she placed it on the small table nearby. Kristoff let out a grunt of surprise when Anna climbed into his lap. Those honey-brown eyes bore into hers. She cupped his cheeks before capturing his lips in a searing, warm kiss. Kristoff’s hands found purchase in her loose auburn locks. His lips moved with hers.
“Your majesty,” he murmured against her lips, “this behavior isn’t becoming of a queen.”
Anna laughed, pressing another kiss to his mouth. “I’m queen… so I make the rules.”
“I can’t argue with that.”
They continued to kiss lazily. The warmth of the fire on her skin… the warmth of Kristoff’s touch, of his lips. Of his love. She felt so safe. So secure. This castle may have been where she lived… but Kristoff was truly her home. By his side is where she belonged.

Somewhere Only We Know
Pairing: Kristanna
Word Count: 4,202/AO3
Summary: Jealousy rears its ugly head as Anna and Kristoff each bring a date to a charity gala.
Author’s Note: Hi everyone! This is my contribution for Kristanna Week Day 4 - Green! It’s a bit of a doozy in terms of length XD The title comes from the Keane song of the same name (I was in the midst of a Grey’s Anatomy binge while writing this lol). Enjoy!!!
As Kristoff sat in his car outside of the banquet hall, he wondered how he’d gotten himself into this situation. Donning a suit, and waiting for his “date” to arrive, he contemplated leaving and never looking back. Truth be told, if it wasn’t for Anna’s sister giving him a job with her company, he wouldn’t be here. And truth be told, he only accepted the job because it meant he’d get to stay close to Anna.
Luckily for him, Anna would always come to his office while he was hard at work and the other employees were packing up for the day. She’d perch herself on the edge of his desk, cross her ankles and fold her hands in her lap while she patiently waited for a sliver of attention from him. When he was finally able to give her the attention that she desired, she’d always brag about her weekend plans or the dates she was going on. He tried his best to play the role of the “supportive best friend who definitely wasn’t in love with her,” despite the fact that that notion couldn’t be farther from the truth; he’d had feelings for her for years and had never found the courage to act upon them. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because he was certain his feelings were unrequited.
The day she’d brought up the gala was different, though, and he recalled their conversation in his head.
“Hey, sorry for staying late again, I just have one more thing to do and then I’ll leave.”
“I’m not here to scold you for staying late - although you probably should go home. I just wanted to let you know that you’ll be sitting at mine and Elsa’s table at the gala.”
He looked over at her for a split second before dragging his eyes back to his work. “I’m sorry, did you just say that I’m sitting at the CEO’s table at a charity gala?”
“Yes,” she confirmed.
“I should be sitting with the other people in my department, no?”
“Well, we were friends before you started working here, so you’re sitting with us.”
“Great,” he muttered, trying to focus on the numbers in front of him. “Now they’ll all have a real reason to hate me.”
“If anyone hates you, you can refer them to my sister.”
He shook his head, sighing.
“Anyway,” she continued in a sing-song voice, “I just need to know if you’re bringing a guest or -”
“Yes,” he cut her off mid-sentence, without thinking about the repercussions.
“You are?”
“I’m allowed to, right?”
“Of course,” she answered in a strained voice. “I’ll be sure to put down that you’re bringing a guest.”
She hopped down from the desk and made her way to the door without saying another word.
“You’re leaving?” he asked, tearing his eyes away from his work and looking over at her. She normally waited for him to finish so they could walk out together.
“Yeah, uh...I have plans to meet up with someone.”
“Oh, okay. Have fun. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah. See you tomorrow.”
What brought him back to reality was the sight of a car pulling into the spot next to his. He glanced over to find that it was his date, Lauren - who also happened to be his happily-married neighbor. Lauren and her husband, Matt, were the only people who knew about his feelings for Anna, and he often went to them to vent or seek advice. He went to them the same day that Anna came into his office so he could complain to them about about running his stupid mouth.
“Okay, so there’s this stupid charity gala thing coming up at the end of the month. I don’t want to go, but I’m kind of obligated because of the job thing.”
“Uh huh,” Matt nodded.
“And today, Anna came into my office, like she always does, and told me that I’m not going to be sitting with my department, but with her and her CEO sister. And she asked me if I’m bringing a date, which I said ‘yes’ to without even thinking.”
Lauren and Matt exchanged a glance. “What exactly is the problem?” Lauren asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I don’t have a date!” he exclaimed. “I lied about having a date, and Anna is going to have a date, because she’s Anna and she always has a date.”
“Maybe the reason Anna always has a date is because you’d rather complain about her having dates than actually ask her on a date.”
“You’re really not helping.”
“You seem...desperate,” Lauren commented.
He picked his head up and looked over at her. “Do you think it’s too late to get out of it? I could just...not show up, right?”
“Or you could go and just bring a date.”
“Where am I going to find a date?” he scoffed.
“I’ll go with you,” Lauren offered. “It may be my one and only chance to actually meet the object of your affections otherwise known as Anna.”
A set of fingers tapping on his window snapped him out of the flashback. Lauren was standing there, motioning for him to step out of the vehicle. With a sigh, he opened the door and climbed out.
“Thinking about making a run for it?” she teased.
“Sort of,” he answered. “Thanks again for doing this.”
“If I wasn’t so eager to meet the woman you’re in love with, I would’ve have even offered,” she laughed before motioning to her long black dress. “I had to dig this out of my closet. I’m surprised it still fits - I wore it years ago when I was a bridesmaid in my sister’s wedding. I think it’s the only dress I own aside from my wedding dress.”
He blushed at her mention of his feelings for Anna, but decided to brush it off. “You look great.”
“You don’t look too bad, yourself.”
“Thanks.”
“Now, what’s the angle I’m working with here? Do you want me to give her the third degree?”
“I think you should be yourself,” he said.
“Where’s the fun in that? It’s not like these people will ever see me again.”
He rolled his eyes. “Come on, we should go inside.”
The hallway of the venue was bustling with activity, but he was able to locate their seating card right away.
“I’m going to run to the restroom to put on my lipstick and I’ll be right back,” Lauren said after they arrived at the empty table.
As Kristoff looked around the crowded room, he thought for a split second that he’d be able to survive the party and go on with life as usual. Until he spotted Anna and forgot how to breathe.
She was radiant in a long, satin, emerald green a-line dress that hugged the top half of her body and flared out at her hips, only accentuated by a slit that ended mid-thigh. Her hair fell in loose curls that framed her face and her lips were painted a stunning, dark red. A pair of pearl earrings adorned her ears and a matching necklace hung from her throat, but the most noticeable accessory was the arm of the man she had brought as her date, which was interlocked with hers. His jaw tensed up and he was grateful that she wasn’t yet looking in his direction, because his face would certainly give away how envious he was feeling.
But of course, as soon as she saw him, she was rushing over, dragging her handsome mystery guy along.
“Oh Kristoff!” she exclaimed, pressing her cheek to his and making a puckering noise. “You look so handsome!”
“Stop it,” he blushed. “You look stunning.”
“Thank you,” she gushed, looping her arm around the man’s. “I’m being so rude! Kristoff, this is Brian. Brian, Kristoff.”
Brian extended his hand out and though he hesitated for a moment, Kristoff eventually reached out and shook it.
“Nice to meet you,” Brian smiled.
“Same here,” Kristoff said, though he was focusing on the other man’s features; dark hair, beard, glasses.
“So, where's your date?”
Anna nudged him. “Brian -”
Kristoff cut her off before she could finish. “Lauren? She’s around here somewhere.”
He swore that he saw Anna’s face twitch, but he convinced himself that it was just the strobe lights playing tricks with his eyes.
She smiled then, he was certain of that, and patted Brian’s arm. “You haven’t seen Elsa around, have you?”
He shook his head. “Can’t say that I have.”
“I should probably go find her. We’ll see you in a little bit.”
Before he could utter another word, they were shuffling away, and he breathed a sigh of relief. A moment later, Lauren tapped him on the shoulder from behind.
“Horrible timing,” he remarked.
“What’d I miss?” she laughed.
“Anna came over, with her date.”
“Oh man, I’m sorry I wasn’t here.”
“Hey, how’s it going?” Ryder interrupted, his voice startling them.
“Hey,” Kristoff replied, shifting to face him.
“Who’s this?”
“I’m Lauren,” she answered for herself, reaching out her hand.
Ryder grinned widely and shook it enthusiastically. “Wow, I can’t believe you brought a date.”
Kristoff glared at him but just as he was about to open his mouth, Lauren refuted the younger man. “Where’s your date?”
“Oh, I don’t -” he started, before throwing his hands up in surrender. “I’m really only here as moral support for my sister’s girlfriend.”
“Speaking of, have you seen your sister? Or Elsa? I know Anna was looking for her.”
“Elsa’s probably in the bathroom, puking or something and I’m sure Honey is with her,” he shrugged. “Speaking of Anna, have you seen her date?”
“You should probably talk less and smile more,” Lauren proposed, immediately sensing Kristoff’s discomfort. “It’ll keep you out of trouble.”
“Whoa, was that a Hamilton reference?”
“Ryder,” Kristoff warned, grabbing his attention. “Just...keep it cool, okay? We’re all adults here and this night isn’t about us.”
“I have a feeling that this dinner is going to be very interesting,” he remarked, before taking his seat at the table.
“He’s right,” Kristoff murmured to Lauren. “He’s going to be the only normal one at the table, and that’s saying something.”
“You should really take your own advice, you know. Keep it cool.”
He motioned to the group that was approaching their table; Elsa and Honeymaren holding hands in ice blue and beige gowns, respectively, and then Anna and Brian, whose arms were still linked. “Here they come.”
“Holy sh*t, why didn’t you tell me they were all literal goddesses?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Look at them, all tall and leggy and gorgeous,” she said. “They’re supermodels and I didn’t even bother to dye my roots!”
“What happened to keeping it cool?” he teased. “And you look great.”
“Hi,” Anna said once they’d reached the table. “You must be Lauren.”
Lauren smiled. “I am. And you are?”
“Anna,” she answered, her face falling. The two women exchanged a simple handshake. She didn’t bother to introduce Brian, who took his seat at the table, and instead kept her attention on Lauren. Without skipping a beat, she asked, “How do you and Kristoff know each other?”
“We live in the same apartment building,” Lauren explained. “Kind of hard to ignore a guy as big as him in the laundry room. How do you know Kristoff?”
Anna glanced over at Kristoff, as if she had expected him to have told Lauren this stuff in previous conversation. “We’ve been friends for like, ever,” she smiled tensely before looking at him again and clearing her throat. “Really good friends.”
“I was kind of asking how you met,” Lauren chuckled.
“Oh. We met in college. He didn’t want to be bothered and I just...kept bothering him.”
He smiled at the memory of her insisting on sitting next to him in class while he was trying to be invisible. His first impression was that she was a little too perky, but that opinion vanished within a week when he realized how charming and friendly she was. She had had nothing but good intentions, after all.
Anna, on the other hand, seemed to be out of character in the present moment. He was having trouble reading her face as well as he normally could, but something seemed off about how she’d responded to Lauren; he couldn’t tell if it was embarrassment or resentment or something else. He became worried that this event would be the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of their friendship, and he couldn’t imagine his life without Anna in it.
For most of the night, the table was tense and unusually quiet. In between the dancing and speeches, there was little socialization with the exception of Ryder, who was relishing in the ability to be the center of attention for a few minutes at a time. He was vaguely aware of the fact that his eyebrows were drawn tightly together and his jaw was clenched as he watched Anna and Brian whisper to each other. Whenever Anna wasn’t speaking, he caught her looking over in his direction, lips pursed.
“She looks like she’s trying to choke back vomit,” Lauren whispered at one point, looking in Anna’s direction. “Is she okay?”
“I have no idea, she’s normally very talkative. I’m worried about her.”
“Ask her if she’s okay.”
“No, Brian is next to her. She’ll tell him or her sister if something’s wrong.”
Towards the end of the night, the dancing resumed once again, and thankfully, Lauren was as disinterested as Kristoff was, so they hung back at the table while everyone else departed.
“Is it always like that with them?” Lauren spoke up as soon as the others were out of ear shot. “Tense and awkward?”
“No,” Kristoff answered, shaking his head. “I have no idea what that was about. Especially Anna - on a normal day, she’d talk your ear off.”
“She really didn’t look well. Something is eating her alive and I have a feeling that I know what it is.”
“Huh?”
“Is it possible...and just, hear me out -”
“What?” he asked, impatiently.
“Is it possible that the reason she parades all of those guys around you is because she wants attention from you?”
He looked at her solemnly, unable to muster up a response. He shrugged instead of answering.
Her face softened. “Something is not being said here.”
“I don’t know, Lauren. I really don’t know.”
She placed her hand on his shoulder. “I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but the only way to resolve this is to talk to her. And to be honest, about everything.”
“Yeah, but what if it goes horribly wrong?”
“What’s the absolute worst that happens? You quit your job and stop talking to them? You have a very employable job and you’re a good-looking guy - the ball is in your court no matter which way it goes.”
As if on cue, Anna appeared behind them. “Uh, Lauren, I hope you don’t mind me asking to take your date away, but Kristoff promised me a dance,” she said, before looking at Kristoff and adding, “If you’re up to it.”
He nodded - even though he was certain they’d never talked about sharing a dance - and moved to stand up, before Lauren placed a hand on his arm. “I’m actually going to head out now. I have work in the morning and I should go home and get some sleep.”
“Of course,” he said softly. “Do you want me to walk you to your car?”
“Don’t worry about it,” she answered. She stood up, then, and he quickly followed suit. “It was really nice to meet you, Anna.”
“Nice to meet you too,” Anna whispered as Lauren walked away.
Kristoff held out his arm, and she looked up at him for a moment, as if she were unsure of what to do before finally accepting. They walked quietly to the dance floor, and once there, they locked their hands together. Anna draped her free arm around his shoulder and his free hand fell to her waist as they began to sway back and forth.
“Did you have fun tonight?” he asked.
“Not really,” she admitted. “But it was really great to see you with Lauren, she’s a really nice girl.”
“Anna -”
“I did promise myself that I would be honest, though,” she said, meeting his gaze. Her eyes were brimming with tears, threatening to spill over at any moment. “And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t positively green with envy the entire time.”
“What?”
“Oh, come on,” she retorted, a hollow laugh escaping her lips. “Don’t pretend like you didn’t notice.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. You came with Brian -”
“Brian’s my friend,” she confessed suddenly, cutting him off mid-sentence. “I’m not interested in him at all and I only asked him to come with me because you didn’t ask me.”
“I didn’t know that you wanted me to ask you.”
“I tried to make it obvious, but you said you were bringing someone and you brought Lauren, so clearly you weren’t going to ask me anyway.”
“Lauren is married.”
“She - what?”
“She’s married. She lives in my building, and I watch football with her husband. There’s nothing going on between us.”
“Oh,” she croaked, gripping his jacket tightly in her hand.
“I think we…I think we need to talk.”
“Yeah,” she agreed, a single tear rolling down her cheek. He reached up to brush it away, allowing his hand to linger for a moment and she leaned into his touch, closing her eyes and breathing in deeply.
“Did you drive here?”
“No, Honey drove me.”
“Do you want me to drive you home?”
She shook her head, lip quivering. “I don’t want to go home.”
“You can come back to my place,” he assured her. “We can talk there.”
She nodded, and he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and walked her toward the exit, not bothering to say goodbye to any of their friends. When they reached the glass doors that led to the parking lot, it became apparent that it was torrentially raining outside.
“Wait here, I’ll go get the car.”
“It’s fine.”
“You’re going to ruin your dress,” he said, but it was too late. She pushed the door open and stepped out into the torrential rain, instantly soaking her dress and hair. With a sigh, he followed her out and pointed in the direction of his car. “I parked over there.”
By the time they made it to his car, they were drenched from head to toe.
“I’m going to put the heat on so we can dry off a little,” he said, before reaching inside the center console and pulling out a stack of napkins. “Here, so you can wipe your face.”
She sat motionless, strands of her dampened hair clinging to her face for a moment, before finally accepting one and wiping her face. The ride back to his apartment was silent, and the second walk in the rain was equally as unpleasant as the first. The water dripping off of them left a trail in the carpet and puddles in the elevator, and he was relieved when they finally made it to his apartment. She kicked off her heels at his front door, and he did the same with his shoes and socks.
“I’ll get you some dry clothes, okay? And you can take a hot shower to warm up.”
“What about you?”
“Don’t worry about me,” he insisted. “I can go after you.”
She gave him a small nod and he led her into his bedroom. He retrieved a clean, dry set of clothes that she could wear, fully aware that they would swamp her petite body, and laid them on the bathroom counter along with a few clean towels.
As soon as the door closed and the water turned on, he stripped off his own clothes, exchanging them for dry ones. He wouldn’t be able to take his suit to the dry cleaners until tomorrow, so he’d have to hang it from the shower rod and hope that it wouldn’t somehow be ruined overnight.
She came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, a towel wrapped around her head, and he smiled at the sight of it. As predicted, his clothes were hanging off of her, but she looked quite adorable. “I’m going to jump in, I’ll be out in a few.”
As promised, he showered quickly, relishing the comfort of his dry clothes. He made sure to hang Anna’s dress from the curtain rod in addition to his suit. When he emerged from the bathroom, he found Anna sitting on his bed, and he took a seat next to her. They were quiet for a long, long time, and he worried that this was going to be the end of everything for them.
“I talk about you,” he said, finally breaking the silence.
“What?” she asked, her voice wobbly.
“I know Lauren made it seem like I never talk about you, but I do,” he confirmed. “A lot. I think Lauren and her husband know more about you than they know about me.”
She sniffled. “That’s so nice.”
“And I...I would’ve asked you if I had known that was what you wanted.”
“You didn’t…” she started, before closing her eyes and letting out a shaky breath. “It’s not your fault. I could’ve asked you, or I could’ve - there are so many things I could’ve said or done.”
He shook his head. “You said you were being obvious about it -”
She cut him off mid-sentence. “You were working and I was bothering you.”
“No, you weren’t bothering me. You never bother me. I jumped to conclusions,” he admitted, hanging his head. “I thought the reason you brought up the charity gala that day was because you were rubbing in the fact that you had a date. You always have dates. To quote Lauren, you’re a goddess. It isn’t that hard to believe that men are throwing themselves at you.”
She sighed, trying to maintain her composure. “Kristoff, I know that I always talk about my plans, but I don’t go out as often as I’ve led you to believe. In all honesty, I was trying to make you jealous.”
“It worked,” he frowned. “I never said anything because I wanted you to be happy. And I believed that if you viewed me as the type of person that you could share stuff like that with, then you wouldn’t be interested in me as anything more than a friend.”
"Tonight, I got a taste of my own medicine and I can't say I didn't deserve it. Watching you with Lauren - well, there was a part of me that was happy you found someone, but I wished it was me. I wished that I was Lauren, and that you were paying attention to me, and whispering in my ear, and touching me."
"How do you think I felt all this time? Every time you were bragging about a date? Or even tonight, when you brought Brian?"
“I’m really sorry,” she whimpered. “We wouldn’t be in this mess if it wasn’t for me.”
He exhaled deeply. “I think we’re both equally to blame.”
“How did we get to this point? How do we fix this?”
He hesitated for a moment before answering. “I think we both have to be honest about what we want. No more lying, no more games, no more trying to make the other person jealous.”
“Okay.” She took a deep breath and wiped away a fallen tear before saying, “I want you.”
“And I want you.”
“So we both want the same thing? We can be together?”
He smirked. “I think it would be foolish if we didn’t get together.”
She smiled genuinely for the first time that night, before asking in a small voice, “Can I stay here tonight?”
He nodded. “Of course.”
They crawled to the top of the bed and nestled under the covers after he turned out the lights, a safe distance between them until Anna spoke up. “Will you hold me?”
“Come here,” he said, opening his arms.
She curled up against his chest and he wrapped his arms around her, determined to keep her safe and warm. He certainly hadn’t expected that this was how they would end their night, but he was so glad that it had gone in this direction. The alternative - the one he feared would happen - where their friendship would end and there’d be nothing left but broken hearts and falling tears was much scarier. Now, there was no more jealousy and no more fabrications, just the simple-yet-complicated thing they had between them. And he selfishly hoped they could stay this way forever.
“I really missed you tonight,” she said. “I missed talking to you, and spending time with you, and I never want to go through that again.”
He tightened his grip on her. “I missed you, too.”
“Don’t let me go, okay? Please?”
“Never,” he promised, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. And he intended to keep that promise for as long as she’d let him.
