fuck it i finished this weeks homework so here are all the wayv opinions i can think of right now

overall: i like wayv they are my second fav after 127 but i respect them more than 127. i think when they get their hands on certain concepts they slay absolute penis (regular, moonwalk, bad alive, turn back time, nectar, love talk, etc). kick back was a flop though and they generally are passed over sooo often its so sad. at least the situation isnt as drastic as exo-m but wayv languishing in the sm basement shows us that sm still hasnt learned how to manage a china bg promotion

ten: i love ten so much i hope he can go solo but again his station songs/thing with yangyang have flopped and its very sad. i think the reason behind the floppage is a mixture of being given shit material and also i think ten is still growing as an artist even with so much overflowing raw talent and creativity. but i will be very excited for a tolo if it is PROPER and INSPIRED. im sorry to compare him to taemin but the material is very very similar and i do hope he can follow in taemins footsteps. to those who aren't aware on what's going on in the dumpstertruck that is twitter, jack manifold (an mcyt streamer) jokingly attempted to ratio kim namjoon (a member of bts) in a post that has a carrot in it with jack posting a biscuit with almost the same caption as the idol. namjoon's post is currently almost 3 million while jack's is like 80k i think? then fellow streamer tubbo said how it's impossible then minutes later said that he'll attempt to ratio namjoon in honor of the jack manifold. both ranboo and tommy light-hearted warn both streamers how it's a bad idea (and in tommy's words: when kpop, mcyt and christians collide, it's not going to be pretty). thus led to our situation is the overwhelming hate on tubbo, jack and their respective fanbase.

for those who are still confused, the basic premise is that jack tried to ratio namjoon cuz he saw how tubbo successfully attempted ratioing both the president of america and the prime minister of uk, and thought maybe it's a good idea to go for the kill by attempting to ratio one of the members of one of the biggest boy bands in the world. long story short, jack failed, tubbo tried to avenge jack by doing the ratio himself, and at most a half of the army fanbase are mad at them.

there's a lot of reasons as to why people in the mcyt fandom don't catch on as easily to things like ccs' bad behaviors, habits, mental health etc as much as kpop stans do; 1. they're typically a lot younger, 2. the ccs aren't working under some kind of widely-bashed and known-for-being-awful company, (or at least not in the sense of it being so overly controlling) and 3. the mcyt fandom seems to have this weird and collective agreement to Never Do Anything Wrong Ever and Never Cross CCS' Boundaries Ever or You Will Be Crucified. - which in turn, allows everyone to ignore or actively avoid things that should probably be talked about. (this is also one of the reasons why i think truthblr/leaktwt is so popular, it's the only place that seems to allow open critique and discussion of the community/ccs.)

and i will admit, if i had never come across truthblr/leaktwt, i probably would've never even thought once about something potentially being wrong with anyone's weight or mental health. it would've flown right past me. and honestly? maybe it's better that the main fandom doesn't have that overly parasocial worry for their streamers (moreso than they already do ... lord knows it would drive them fucking crazy) but it still reaches a point where sometimes you have to ask, like, okay. is everything really okay here? or are we just pretending like it is?

it really blew my mind how different kpop vs mcyttwt was, like seriously. i remember one instance, before i came to my own conclusion that george didnt have an ed but rather was just . not good at remembering to eat/naturally skinny and found a tweet where he basically said something like "he never eats" and i think i commented on it with something like "i hope youre eating better now george :(" because . it was a very normal thing to do that within the kpop community. like if you found an old worrying tweet from an idol, commenting and wishing them better was totally normal, but then months later when people started looking at old george tweets and saw my reply they were like "youre a freak of nature for bringing this back to the tl do you think eds are a joke?" like.. no.. thats why i commented wishing him better? but youre right, the lack of parasocial worrying and the almost.. disdain and ruthless avoiding of it is seriously noticeable in the mcyttwt communtiy when you compare it to the kpop community, and for the reasons you talked about.

it's insane though, because while the respecting of boundaries is honorable, like. these kids have to be thinking somethings off right? like hell they justify dsmp alters, is a streamer having an eating disorder so out of the question?

being mlm in boygroup kpop fandom is literally so exhausting. 99% of the people who ship real life human men from boygroups are fetishists and i will tell u why

obviously we all know of a ship in a fandom where the characters' personalities are twisted to fit the heteronormative view of "top" and "bottom" --one character is hypermasculine (top) and the other one is feminine (bottom). there are typical traits associated with both. the ‘top’ is scary or mean or angry or serious while the ‘bottom’ is emotional or bubbly or shy. while this is egregious, at least its fictional characters. their personalities can be simplified or exaggerated and it doesnt cause any real life harm.

im going to define what i think of as a fetishist: a non-mlm person who overly sexualizes gay men/men they think are gay/gay ships, and forces them into heteronormative roles for their own pleasure. its not even limited to cishet women. plenty of non-mlm lgbt people do this too and its like disheartening. so anyways

i may be incredibly biased here because one of the most affected members [of bts] is my favorite kpop boy, but oh god is the ‘personality change/simplification’ thing AWFUL here. i do not go out of my way to find fanart or see fanfic threads, but being in the bts fandom, u will inevitably see it and i REALLY wish i didnt

so anyways. my favorite boy ever is hoseok. he is sweet and hardworking and very passionate about dance and he can be serious when needed, but ultimately he tries to be very lighthearted and will consistently laugh or make jokes or do something funny when the other members feel uncomfortable or awkward (mostly during english-speaking interviews). he kisses the members on the cheek a lot/hugs them a lot/cuddles them a lot [this is important for later okay]

of course, theres a lot more to him because he is a multi-faceted real life human being, and i don’t know him personally, but that’s a general idea of what he’s like, okay?

SHIPPERS will have you think differently. some video got popular on youtube ""proving"" that hoseok is a sadist (which is just clips of him jokingly playfighting with the younger members), and the video depicts him as secretly mean and serious, and shippers will use that to say "hoseok is a total top!" and then most fanart or imagines or fanfic threads you see are top!hoseok, using this imagined 'hoseok is a sadistic dom' narrative to fuel their fiction, because SOMEONE has to be the top, so they twist him into this hypermasculine mean person (and probably feminize the 'bottom' of their ship but more on that later)

EXCEPT it is not just fiction. this narrative bleeds into REAL LIFE. you have new armys who dont know anything about the shipping scene, and yet somehow the narrative of hoseok being a secretly mean, sadistic person has already made its way into them. in real life, hoseok likes rainbows and wearing nail stickers and putting glitter in his hair. yet people in the fandom will say shit like "hoseok hates femininity" "hoseok would never wear [thing] because he's a dom"

sometimes on twitter you have ppl like me who say uh actually you guys are really weird and this is fetishy and in real life hoseok is very nice and not sadistic at all, you will UNDOUBTEDLY get comments like "omg hoseok isnt cute/nice when will yall learn he’s secretly like [x] and [x]". you could post a video of hoseok with a puppy titled "wow cute" and u will get like 2 clowns in ur comments going 'hoseok isnt CUTE hes a sadist’ . i wish i was joking but i am not. they will do this for EVERY action hoseok does. he cannot blink without people twisting it into a sexual thing

So, can I say something real quick about Kpop idols?

This has been a thought on my mind basically since I joined the Kpop community, and I know some people might react weird or not understand what I'm trying to say but that doesn't matter to me. Putting this out there does.

*ahem* NO KPOP IDOL IVE SEEN PEOPLE CALL CHUBBY IS ACTUALLY CHUBBY.*ahem*

Like for real. I see posts talking about how Suga's cheeks get chubbier on break, and how Haechan's cheeks have gotten chubbier, or "before" and "after" pictures of idols who have gone on a diet and people saying "I miss when they were chubby" like.... They never were and they aren't. This is just what they'd actually look like if they got a normal amount of sleep, ate like a normal human, and didn't dance for 4-12 hours a day. That's not chubby, that's how they'd naturally look.

Chubby, to me means that a person is slightly overweight, or that they're a healthy weight but naturally softer and can look more fuller. Which is all beautiful. And I'm aware this can be a culture difference because of how idols are expected to be thin and perfect but sometimes when I look at them I just think about how unhealthy some (not all) of them must be physically.

Because on a mini tangent: when someone eats so little amount of food for so long and is they are always in a caloric deficit (so let's say youre recommended amount to maintain your weight is 2000, but you constantly eat 1500, or 1200-1400 calories a day) their metabolism adapts so that it's natural state of burning to maintain IS 1500 or 1200-1400. So they'd HAVE to eat less to lose weight, or fix their metabolism by slowly increasing their food intake so their metabolism can adjust to a normal amount of food again. But to do that their weight would plateau or they'd even gain a little bit. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with an idol gaining weight or doing any of this, except for the fact that they'd be called "fat" by the media. Nobody actually seems to care about an idol's health. And imagine what calling them "chubby" does to them when it's just them eating normally. Why do you THINK idols always go on strict diets before a comeback? Because they know that if they eat normally people would know and call them chubby. And I'm not saying this offends them, but I know that I would feel so pressured and judged subconsciously to eat less and lose the "chubbiness" because the media must see it too if fans do.

And I know some idols don't care or even just say they don't care (but trust me, they probably do), and I know some of you guys don't mean to hurt their feelings and just mean to say it innocently, it still encourages this unhealthy mindset that all idols MUST be borderline unhealthy, and just BARELY a healthy weight or diet amount. This gives their employers a reason to make them do those crazy restricted diets (ice cube diet, or the IU diet for example) and force them to lose weight because they KNOW and SEE what you do as well, and can see when you comment on it.

To put this into a different perspective as well, as someone who's been struggling with an eating disorder, looking at really thin idols like Jimin, Suga, Haechan, etc who all weigh less than me and are taller than me and to see them called "chubby" kicked my mind into comparison mode and said "then I must be HUGE." Or "I won't ever officially be skinny or pretty until I weigh the same as them or less" because that's how a sick mind works. So not only does this infect the idols minds and encourage the bad mindset, but it can infect their fans minds to think that they aren't good enough.

I've never wanted to point fingers at this because I love it so much, but I can't be a fucking liar anymore and hide behind it because I want to get better, and I'm tired of believing that I'm too big, or that I'll always be chubby until I'm 90lbs like all the female Kpop idols. But sometimes the Kpop fandom can trigger my eating disorder. There, I said it. Fight me. Because you call thin idols chubby, and you implant this way of thinking that how they eat is okay, and that weighing 90lbs and eating 1200 calories a day is a lifestyle or that constantly restricting and not focusing on nutrients or what body type I am is how life works because IT ISNT. Some people may be that naturally, but the fact that some idols noticably change a little bit when they eat normally on breaks shows that how they are on stage isn't natural.

And to end this off as a disclaimer again, I know people don't mean to be triggering, and they don't think there's anything wrong in what they're doing (which I understand), but you also have to really take a second to think about what you're saying a little bit. Chubby is a word that is either black or white to people. Either they think it's cute, or they think it's an insult. That all depends on culture and self esteem and blah blah blah. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being chubby, or that it's a bad thing to be because it is definitely NOT and I think everyone is beautiful how they're meant to be. So of you're 90lbs or 140, or 180, or 200+ or anything in between naturally you're all still beautiful and have your own necessary standards to consume to be healthy that will be different from everyone else. However, that is where the issue lies. Because most idols weren't born as thin as they are, they are usually forced and conditioned to be that way. But to help you decide whether it's okay to make these comments, ask yourself this when you're about to call an idol chubby:

1: am I calling them chubby because they're "eating well" (a normal diet) and they've started filling out?

2:Would I like it if someone I loved, respected or whom I cared about their opinion called me "chubby" after finally getting off of a restricted diet and just eating healthy but normal amounts of food?

3: If I was a Kpop media outlet and saw that they gained weight, what would I write? (Really put yourself in their shoes and be honest.)

4: Am I calling them chubby cheeks because they're just puffing them out and being cute? (Then okay, it's fine)

5: when I say this, are they really chubby? Or has my mind been twisted to think they are just like their critics?

And I know that may seem extreme, but that's how it is. You all preach about how self love should be more important in the "toxic" Kpop industry but still subconsciously encourage its toxic behavior. So instead of comments like "omg your cheeks are so chubby now! <3" or "awwww look at his tummy he gained!" Say: "Omg, you look so healthy! ", " You've been looking extra cute recently 😍" and stuff like that. Because it still gets the point across that you like seeing them healthier, but it doesn't use possibly triggering words like chubby or thick because they are neither.

Anyways that's my mini rant. I don't mean to trigger people, or point fingers because I used to do it too. But I think we all need to collectively recognize this as part of the issue, and say, "huh, maybe that could hurt their feelings a little but EVEN IF I DONT MEAN TO, OR ITS NORMAL WHERE IM FROM TO SAY AS A COMPLIMENT"

Because as one of my favorite quotes puts it in words perfectly "You don't get to decide whether you hurt someone or not." So yes, people like me are sensitive, and yes, it may not seem like a big deal to you. But honestly I've sat by and respected all of your guy's opinions and words for a while now, and I think it's now okay for me to say "hey, this kind of bugs me a bit." Without being looked at as weird or annoying.

So in the nicest way possible, say what you want, but I'm not taking this down. I've made myself clear and as understanding as possible. But people like me who have an eating disorder, had one in the past, or are on the road to developing one, or someone who is about to start one of the insane Kpop diets, needs to know that this isn't normal. And they shouldn't compare themselves to the unhealthy kpop standards like it did.

⤏ okay. my fav mv director (who dominates this list) basically this video saved my YEAR. released late on but like. EVERYTHING this director does i am bound to love. working with seventsen for a while, they have a good dynamic, and the way he uses colour here in a specifically dark video is just??? genius??? ugh i love this video so much it’s perfect in almost every way.

⤏ sigh here we go again fav mv director. first thing, jihoon when all the lights turn on and illuminate him a bit more. this is continued throughout the WHOLE video can u believe the shot was made by turning on lights kpop groups take some NOTES bc vm project is PEGGING them at u rn. okay makeup room scene. the colours in this are HHHhh, this warmth we haven’t really seen as the brainstorming scenes are stark, and the recording and practicing scenes are cool toned. and. AND. the way they all mouth “because we’re carved in each other’s hearts” and turn their heads to the camera i CHOKED what a beautiful shot and just. amazing direction. basically, for the concept of this video, it is amazingly made. from the way it slowly transitions from performance shots in the practise room to shots where members focused on the camera like a real performance on stage. honestly how does jo beomjin nail EVERY song and concept thrown at him idk

⤏ okay so the first shot we get of the boyz is a one shot of their whole first verse. that is a 36 second long shot. and it doesn’t even feel boring. this music video is THE MASTER of continuous shots. solo shots for the boys are long and, if i can say this, perfect for fan creators that may make gifs, animations or artworks without blurry quick scenes. BY FAR the best shot in the ENTIRE music video (2:02 for reference) is a shot that starts as an aerial, showing a circular formation around haknyeon, it then cascades down, following him to ensure the intensity of his movements is well emphasised, it then falls down to straight on level showing the whole group before continuing to zoom to jacob, following his movements in leading the dance before finally cutting. this shot is 14 seconds long. i could talk abt so much but but i just. THIS!! OKAY!! a fantastic video. camera director needs some recognition.

⤏ colours colours colours!!! i especially respect with this video that although the white background dancing was blue toned, they took account of kevin’s red hair and added red accents to certain members clothing to even it out!!! ISNT THAT THOUGHTFUL AND NEAT!!! tbz have worked with a few music video directors since their debut, and i’m shocked at how consistent their videos have been accounting this. their directors ability to connect with the group is crazy, and they’re all perfect on filming dance scenes. WATER. water water water. now, this is a very cheap trick but an effective one, and something i LOVE seeing. dancing in water and spraying water on the ground for night scenes ALWAYS looks gorgeous.

⤏ this video. THIS VIDEO. okay, let’s get it out of the way, the colours in this video are actually gorgeous. the way the director (again, VMs jo beomjin) uses them is perfect, keep it unblocked, mix it with contrasting props and odd shapes, take the eyes OFF the colour, whilst still having the colour dominate the screen. clearly, my favourite scenes from this video is the white room with the yellow concentrated area where she dances, taking your eyes away from the odd colour placement and of course the scene where she’s on the field with the “mirror” “window” whatever. VM never fails to wow me with their flawless and nicely placed editing skills. the angle shots on the field scenes are just gorgeous. all the angles are gorgeous. ugh. T H I S V I D E O. the only think i dislike is the animated paper planes, they’re just unnecessary tbh sjsjsj

⤏ okay so this director did nct dream go too which didn’t make the list but STILL good anyway so new heroes. i think we ALL know why it’s here. imagine a music video so SIMPLE yet so stunning, using the old fashioned ways with lights, illusion, contrast, costume and good ol’ golden hour. the colours in this video are simply gorgeous, that much is clear, but the technique with the lights in the sheet thingy??? jesus christ. the way they shined off of his body even when they did shots without the sheet i was DEAD. the shirt man. what a perfect way of inveloping costume into your filming techniques??? the way it reflected all the light??? PUTTING HIM IN FRONT OF THE WATER WHERE IT WAS REFLECTING THE SAME LIGHT??? SIMPLE GENIUS. and then it goes from that the the GORGEOUS blue sky and like. all those scenes of extravagant buildings vs. shitty ones and WHOA. i love. i love a lot.

⤏ sm yet again. colours once more. you cannot deny the way colours are used here is amazing. like. oh my GOD the pinks the everything i’m in love shhixhaha. literally every set they used was gorgeous, the solo shots were gorgeous. the way the director used slowmo and the way they used props and costumes like i’m so. IN LOVE.

⤏ vm project yet AGAIN. so. you’ve all seen it so i don’t need to go too in depth but the CONTINUOUS SHOTS IM IN LOVE. we’ve seen from seventeen clap that jo beomjin loves using multiple people but it’s used so ELEGANTLY here especially with jinhwan omg i like, cried. the sets and shadows and colours and everything is just fucking. amazing. simply gorgeous. i’m so in love with this video.
