As some of you may know, Art Seen Films is doing theatrical screenings of a Korean production of Yeston & Kopit's Phantom musical starring Kyuhyun.
They have a survey going which asks about interest in a streaming & blu-ray release. They also ask if anyone is interested in having another musical called Werther featuring Kyuhyun.
So whether you're interested in Phantom or only a fan of Korean theatre/culture in general please fill it out.
this is a full english script for the 2021 run of Xcalibur, translated from the official scriptbook. As before this was translated using online translators so theres almost definitely some mistakes or inaccuracies (if you see any let me know!) but this was done entirely by me with some songs translated by JuJu_XIA준수 on YouTube (go check her out for some lyric videos)
also like the previous version, if you’re interested in a copy please email me at [email protected] and I’ll give you a link to the PDF file for you to download, its free to share and use as long as you credit me.
The trailer was a spectacular one and obviously they baited me with Ji Chang Wook. God I'm weak for that beautiful man.
And it was not a disappointment. But things were left to be desired.
It was sort of comfortable and yet made you squirm with the uncomfortable conventions of our society. You could see the story unfold and simultaneously question why. Why indeed.
They really made wook and in yeop's characters parallel. I was really invested in Na il deung but they conveniently left him out at the end. What happened to him. Did his dropping out help, is he happy now, at peace??!! We aren't told. Neither do we know the whereabouts of our magician.
At least our leading lady has her life in some control and it makes sense to end it with that given it was her story we're being told.
Also. Nam de reum came in last moment and stole the show that effortlessly.
Special mention to episode 5. My god that one hurt. Curse of asphalt was a masterpiece for real. That said, I need to see more Hwnag In Yeop.
But I'm really glad I actually managed to finish a recent ji Chang wook show. He is a fine Actor and I'm glad he's taking projects out the norm, but some of his previous ones were hard to keep up with.
Oh Choi seung eun. Sorry that I didn't recognise her as jae yi from beyond evil😭 hairstyles really change looks. I liked her. She was strong yet vulnerable, headstrong yet fragile.
Oh also... beautiful cinematography. Your screen lights up and maybe that was the magic throughout.
Hey everyone! There is potential for a proshot of The Man Who Laughs musical with Park Kanghyun. Please let them know if you are interested!! We might not get a subtitled proshot of this show at all if there is no interest because the actor is not Kyuhyun.
They also have an email form on their website here at the bottom of the page, if you are more comfortable with that :)
Hi, can I ask if you have a list of the musicals/productions you post pictures of? (Or just your favourites if there's too many) They all look so cool and I would love to look them up!
Oh man, basically just look up any Korean musical and get some of the best set/costume design ever LMAO
In terms of ones I’ve posted most recently though, I’ve mostly posted pictures from
프랑켄슈타인 (Frankenstein the musical) pretty much all productions are good, but I think it’s currently easiest to find stuff for the 2019 production
엘리자베스 (Elisabeth the musical) most of the pics I’ve been posting related to this has been from the most recent production that’s currently ongoing!
도리안 그레이 (Dorian Gray the musical) there was only one production of this so far so you won’t get the wrong production :’)
브라더스 까라마조프 (Brothers Karamazov the musical) my favorite costuming for one of the characters Smerdyakov is from the most recent 2021 production, but all productions are great :]
와일드 그레이 (Wild Grey the musical) I think there’s only been one production of this so far
니진스키/디아길레프 (Nijinsky the musical/Diaghilev the musical) putting these together because they’re related. My favorite production of these is the 2022 one cause I got to see Nijinsky this year and Diaghilev came out this year lol (my pfp is of 조성윤 as Diaghilev in Diaghilev)
This is just a selection of ones I have posted about! If you’re interested, I’d recommend the tumblr blog @/koreanmusicals for great high quality photos of some productions I’ve mentioned here and others I haven’t! I occasionally rb their stuff too, but usually only if it has my favorite musical actors in it HAJDBDNKS
But if you wanna look for images/videos on your own, I’d recommend looking up the musical name in Korean + 뮤지컬 (musical) otherwise the search results are usually related to but not the actual musical (ie looking up Nijinsky the musical shows the actual guy or ballet’s related to him but not the musical)
