@KatSchneids on Instagram posted a comic today that spoke to my life experience. I'm blown away and I'm a little verklempt because I feel seen, it feels so impossible to explain to the neurotypical/mentally well people in my life that doing uncomfortable things feels like setting myself on fire because so much of my life is and has always been uncomfortable already.

There are so many things from my childhood I'm still building strategies for coping with, it's an impossibly long and difficult project and it's completely invisible work. But I feel a little bit less isolated within that today. Thanks, Kat.

We are so blinded by our fears and insecurities and limiting beliefs that most of the time we have no damn clue what's best for us. And here's the other thing, even if life DID go exactly as planned, even if we somehow managed to check every box and hit every milestone, even then it's not going to be like we thought it would be, because humans are messy, and shit happens, and growth isn't linear. I'm not telling you to stop fighting for the life you want. I just want you to look around and take a deep breath and be a little kinder to yourself as you allow for the possibility that there might be a different way to do this thing. You don't have to have it all figured out, kid. That's a hell of a lot of pressure to put on one person and you've been carrying more than you can. You have so much life left to live. In fact, you have all of it. It's all ahead of you. And I know it's hard to accept sometimes, but what's done is done, and the most courageous and liberating thing you can do is be grateful for the experiences that have brought you here...and then let them go. That doesn't mean you forget the past, but it does mean you stop trying to change it.
