I need people to start talking about Kathryn Lasky’s books because that woman is insane.
She asked “what if owls were put into concentration camps?” And then also “what if owls were nazis?” And then also “what if wolves practiced eugenics?” And then also “what if the only way to fight an oppressive system is through building community and educating ourselves and the people in our lives that we form relationships with?” “What if by refusing to make academia accessible, we allow nazism?” And then she targeted all of that to 8 year olds and I ate it up, at the end of her series the world fucking explodes no joke, all of the characters I got to know and love died and she just wrote that into her wolf eugenics book like it wasn’t a big deal.

A piece done a while ago of lord Coryn surveying the midnight landscape, perched above the peninsula of the spirit woods. I like to think that after death, he would often leave the heavens to visit his mortal world, guide lost scrooms, and perhaps living owls who have become adrift and fallen astray. Just finished watching Legend of the Guardians of Ga'hoole for the first time again after like, almost a decade and oh my God I forgot just how amazing this movie actually is. Like. Why have more people not seen this movie it's honestly a crime. Go watch this masterpiece rn. You will not regret it.
I also highly recommend checking for the book series it's based on in your local library. The authors name is Kathryn Lasky and her worldbuilding and storytelling abilities are nothing short of amazing. I literally fell in love with her series Wolves of the Beyond as a young teen, only to later find out that she was also the author that inspired one of my favorite childhood movies. What are the odds of that happening seriously?

Book name: Wolves of the Beyond
Author: Kathryn Lasky
I think he's a pretty cool villain. Personally I think it'd have been more logical if the true villains in this book had been the Packs with their oppressive ableist and eugenicist system, but I guess Heep will have to do.
I always headcanoned Heep often feels misunderstood by people because he can't express truly himself like average (tailed) wolves can, since a tail is a huge part of canine body language. The books never really play into this which I think is a missed opportunity.
