Drained Embrace
Tumblr media
pairing: Kate Bishop x Fem! Reader
warnings: small angst, kate being mean once :( but she’s just tired! reader feeling bad, fluff , happy ending !! i think that’s it (?)
word count: 1.4K
summary: After a long exhausting mission, Kate wants to go home and relax.
_______________________________________________
The city lights cast a soft glow through the windows as Kate Bishop trudged into the apartment, feeling every ounce of exhaustion weigh her down. Her muscles screamed in protest with every step she took, her mind still reeling from the chaos of the mission she had just returned from. All she wanted was a hot shower and the comfort of her own bed.
The apartment was quiet, besides the gentle hum of the refrigerator that filled the room. The soft click of the door closing behind her barely registered as she dropped her gear by the entrance. It was quiet, too quiet for her liking. She had half-expected to be greeted by the sound of her girlfriend's voice. Kate's heart sank a little as she realized her partner wasn't there to greet her. She had been looking forward to coming home to the warmth of her embrace, but now, all she felt was pure exhaustion.
"Hey, babe, you home?" Kate called out, her voice a tired rasp, as she dragged herself further into the living room, when there was no response, she frowned, letting out a weary sigh and dropped her gear on the floor with a clatter. She rubbed her temples, trying to push away the headache that threatened to consume her. But as she turned around, she was met with the sight of her girlfriend sitting on a couch, engrossed in a book, a tired smile playing on Kate’s lips.
"Hey, Kate!" you chirped, directing your full attention to her. "How was the mission?"
Kate forced a smile, though it felt more like a grimace. "Long," she replied, her voice strained. "I'm just glad to be home."
But you didn't seem to notice the exhaustion etched into Kate's features. Instead, you moved closer, wrapping your arms around Kate in a tight hug. "I missed you." you murmured, nuzzling into Kate's neck.
Kate's muscles tensed at the sudden contact. She tried to muster up some patience, but it was quickly slipping away.
Your smile faltered for a moment, feeling your girlfriend tense under your hold. You patted the space beside you on the couch. "Come sit with me. Tell me all about it."
Kate hesitated, her exhaustion making her crave solitude more than anything else. But she relented, sinking onto the couch beside her girlfriend. As she began recounting the mission, she couldn't shake the feeling of being suffocated by her girlfriend's presence.
With each passing moment, her girlfriend's touches grew more insistent, her questions more probing. Kate felt her patience wearing thin, her exhaustion morphing into frustration.
"Can we do this later?" she said, her tone sharper than intended. "I just need some space right now."
You pulled back, hurt flickering in your eyes for a brief second. "Oh," you whispered, taking a step back. "I didn't realize- I didn’t mean to overstep.. I’m sorry.."
Kate felt a pang of guilt at the sight of your crestfallen expression, but she couldn't bring herself to soften. Not when she felt like she was on the verge of collapsing. With a curt nod, she quickly got off the couch and headed straight for their bedroom, shutting the door behind her with a resounding slam.
Kate sat on the edge of the bed in their shared bedroom, her head buried in her hands. The room was enveloped in a heavy silence, broken only by the soft hum of the air conditioning.
The events of the past few hours weighed heavily on her mind, her heart heavy with guilt and regret. She was exhausted, yes, but she couldn't shake the memory of the hurt in your eyes when she snapped at you. Kate's exhaustion threatened to overwhelm her, her muscles aching with fatigue.
But even as her body begged for rest, her mind raced with thoughts of you, of how she had let her frustration get the best of her.
“Fuck.” Kate mumbled, throwing herself onto the bed. Even though she’s exhausted, her mind filled with worry about you, wondering what you’re thinking about. Wondering if Kate had messed up.
Kate's heart twisted painfully in her chest at the thought of it.
"I'm such an idiot," Kate muttered to herself, her voice barely above a whisper.
But now, in the solitude of their shared bedroom, Kate had let her exhaustion and frustration get the better of her, lashing out at the one person who meant the world to her. And for what? Just for a few moments of peace and quiet? When she could be in your arms right now.
The minutes stretched into hours, the silence becoming suffocating in its intensity. Kate glanced at the clock on the bedside table and sighed. Her mind wandered back to the mission that took place hours ago. The danger she had faced had taken its toll on Kate. She had been running on adrenaline, her emotions raw and unfiltered. And when you had greeted her with open arms, all Kate could think about was how badly she needed space.
Tears stung Kate's eyes as she thought about it more and more. The way she had shut you out when all you had wanted was to comfort her.
She knew she needed to apologize, but fear held her back, fear of facing you, fear of admitting just how much she had messed up, the fear of rejection held her back, anchoring her to the spot.
Kate was everything you could think of, including being someone who overthinks constantly.
As the silence stretched on, a different kind of fear began to creep into Kate's mind. What if you never forgave her? What if she had finally pushed you away for good? The mere thought sent a shiver down Kate's spine, a cold dread settling in the pit of her stomach.
Desperate to push away the thoughts swirling in her mind, Kate buried her face in her hands, willing herself to calm down. She took deep breaths, in and out, trying to steady her racing heartbeat. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.
Finally, with a heavy sigh, Kate pushed herself off the bed and made her way to the door. She hesitated for a moment, her hand hovering over the handle, before finally steeling herself and opening it.
The living room was bathed in soft moonlight, you were curled up on the couch, fast asleep. Kate's heart clenched at the sight, her guilt washing over her in waves. She moved closer, kneeling down beside you, her eyes tracing the gentle curves of your face.
"I'm sorry, Y/N," Kate whispered, her voice barely audible in the stillness of the night. "I never meant to hurt you. I was just... so tired, and scared, I didn't mean to take it out on you."
She reached out to brush a stray lock of hair from your face. "Please forgive me," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "I love you more than anything, Y/N. I can't bear the thought of losing you."
Placing a soft kiss to your forehead, Kate rose to her feet and made her way back to their bedroom.
Soft footsteps approached the bedroom door, the door creaked open, and Kate looked up, her breath catching in her throat as she met your gaze. Your eyes were red-rimmed and puffy, evidence of the tears you had shed in Kate's absence.
“Y/N" Kate whispered, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just... I was just so tired, and I took it out on you, and I-“
You stepped further into the room, closing the door behind you with a soft click. You moved closer to Kate, your expression softening with each step. "It’s okay Kate," you said, your voice barely louder than a whisper. "I forgive you. I know you didn’t mean it. I should’ve seen how tired you were and given you space, I’m sorry for that.”
Tears welled up in Kate's eyes as she reached out for you, pulling you into a tight embrace. "I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice breaking with emotion. "I love you, Y/N. I love you more than anything in this world."
You melted into Kate's embrace, a soft giggle escaping from your lips. “I love you so much, Kate.” With that being said, you softly pressed your lips against hers.
“Now let’s get some sleep, hm?” You rasped out and guided Kate to lay back down onto the bed as she wrapped her arms around your waist and eventually drifted off to sleep.

kissing in the crossfire [K.Bishop]
Tumblr media
pairing: kate bishop x anti-hero!reader
summary: you and kate are better off apart. unfortunately, you can't stay away from each other long enough to realize some puzzle pieces aren't meant to fit together.
warnings: mentions of blood + injuries; so much bickering; sprinkles of important backstory stuff; kate and R are exes and it's complicated; technically angst but there's humor :) [kate does aim her bow at R though so...yeah]
wordcount: 1.9k
a/n: GUESS WHO'S BACK AFTER SAYING THEY WERE BACK AND THEN DISAPPEARING PRACTICALLY ALL MONTH? ...did you guess right? anywho, this is a long-awaited request made by 🧞‍♀️ anon a LONG while ago. i...got a little carried away with this so do with that information what you will. i'll probably come back with some fluff to make up for this later. anyway, hope you enjoy, sending you love <3
* * * * * * *
“You can’t be serious.”
“I wouldn’t be here if I had anywhere else to go, Bishop.” You offer her a smile from your spot on her kitchen counter. “By the way, you should probably hide your spare key somewhere else, that plant is too obvious.”
She opens her mouth, ready to say something witty back, but she stops once she fully notices your appearance. The torn-up clothes, the bruises scattered across your face, the blood trailing from your busted lip. She crosses the space between you in an instant, concern written all over her features despite how hard she tries to hide it.
“What happened?”
“Had an unfortunate run-in with some old friends of ours,” you explain. “I think they’re still holding a grudge.”
She sighs but you can't tell if it's because of your injuries or the ones you've inflicted tonight. “Stay right there. I’ll be right back.”
“Where else would I go?” you reply, the slightest hint of sarcasm in your tone.
Kate either doesn't hear you or pretends not to in favor of walking away to find her first-aid kit. You could tell her most of the blood on your clothes isn't yours but that would only serve to start up the same old argument with her.
An argument that cost you the only healthy relationship you've ever had.
Although, in your defense, it’s not like the archer is entirely blameless for what happened…not that she’d ever admit that out loud when it’s so much easier to blame all your mutual problems on your lack of self-restraint.
“How bad is it?” Her voice brings you out of your thoughts but, unfortunately for you, your reality is just as bad as the memories attached to those blue eyes.
You shrug. “I’ve had better days.”
“Yeah, no kidding, idiot.”
It’s impossible to stop yourself from rolling your eyes at her words even if you know there’s nothing but concern under her sarcasm. Concern that’s evident in the way she approaches you, soft and hesitant and nothing like the impulsive archer you know her to be.
It’s exactly the care you want, the care you need. You need Kate like the oxygen you breathe but you can’t bring yourself to let your walls down again. Maybe it’s stupid or petty or maybe you just like arguing with her a bit too much.
“You’re a terrible nurse,” you complain as she stands between your legs, a silent question shining in the depths of her eyes.
You send the smallest of nods her way despite how ridiculous her nervousness is. You’ve had more intimate moments than this and yet she lifts your shirt out of the way with the shakiest hands you’ve ever seen. You’d make fun of her if you weren’t just as nervous as she is right now.
It's the kind of nervousness that comes with the vulnerability you can't show around anyone else.
You've always had to be the strong one. The fast one. The one with unrelenting fists and an even more unrelenting sense of duty, whether that duty falls on the right side of the law or not. But Kate’s always been the one that looks through all of that…except your tendency to sort problems out with your fists.
You flinch when she drags an antiseptic wipe over the small gash across your stomach. “What happened to the warning?” You grumble, pretending like you can’t see the small smile that spreads along her face.
“You seemed too spaced out to need one.”
“So charming, no wonder all the girls throw themselves at you when you walk by.”
“Oh, shut up. It’s not like you have an empty bed every night either.”
You know what she means but you can’t stop yourself from making fun of her. There are few things in the world that bring you as much joy as watching Kate trip over her own words.
“Are you calling me a whore, Bishop?” All it takes is a subtle raise of your eyebrow to send the brunette into a flustered ramble.
“What? No! Of course not- I mean, not that there’s anything, um, wrong with that, but-”
The sound of your uncontrollable laughter manages to stop her before she digs herself into a bigger hole. The laughter shakes your entire body and you both have to try really hard to ignore the way her hands brush against your skin every time you make those small movements.
Not so long ago, she would have taken the opportunity to wrap her arms around you and pull you close. Today, she merely watches you laugh at her with the rosiest cheeks you’ve seen lately.
“You’re an asshole,” she says, rolling her eyes before going back to patching you up.
Although, her version of  “patching you up” pretty much only involves disinfecting the area and wrapping some gauze around your waist. She’s learned a lot from Clint but she’s still absolutely clueless when it comes to these things. Which forces you to question why you’re even here in the first place…except you don’t want to accept the answer.
She finishes her work on your stomach without another witty comment despite how badly she wants to point out how badly you flinch every time she moves. Instead of doing that, she settles her attention on your face. Mainly your bleeding lip and bruised jaw.
“Hold still.” Her whispered words are the only warning you get before she takes your face in her hands. You flinch and let out a soft groan when her fingers brush said bruise but you don’t move away. You’re captivated by those soft blue eyes despite how badly you wish you weren’t.
“Kate.” You don’t mean to say her name but it slips out before you can stop it. “You don't have to. You…you’ve done enough. I should go.”
“You’re still bleeding,” she says as if that’s enough of a reason.
And maybe it would be.
But there’s too much baggage between you for that.
“And whose fault is that?”
You don’t know why you say it, you just know you’re still hurt and that soft look on her face isn’t helping you accept the past. What happened isn’t really her fault, you know that. Accidents happen all the time in your line of business but she promised she would be there.
And she wasn’t.
And now you have two less family members and an unbelievable amount of people who want Kate’s head delivered to them in a box.
Kate Bishop single-handedly ruined your life by being the idiotic fool you love more than anything. But love doesn’t fit anywhere on your list of responsibilities. At least not anymore.
“y/n,” she sighs. “Let me help. Let me fix it.”
For a second, it sounds like she’s begging you to stay. To ignore the past and the many reasons why you should walk out that door and never talk to her again.
Her shaky hands pull you closer to her, drawing you in toward her sad eyes and parted lips. All you can do is watch, rendered speechless by her mere existence and the hammering of your heart as it tries to escape your chest.
It’s not until her mouth is mere inches away from yours that you manage to escape her spell.
“You can’t fix this.”
That’s the only warning you give her before you shrug her hands off your face and rise to your feet. You pretend you can’t see the thin layer of tears that gathers in her eyes as you force yourself to walk away.
It’s not until you slam her front door behind you that she breaks down.
And maybe you do too but you’ll never let her know that.
Needless to say, you spend the next few days miserable and irritable as hell. Which means you’re quick to accept the first job that gets thrown your way…without reading the entire folder filled with important information.
You only know who your target is and where he’ll be…with special security, courtesy of the Young Avengers.
Turns out, reading the entirety of the folders you’re given is a good idea, who would’ve thought, right?
Things fall apart almost as soon as they start due to you getting too into your own head about things and messing up your perfectly crafted plan, resulting in more than a few punches to the jaw and missed gunshots. Your target attempts to flee onto the roof and you’re quick to follow after him, leaving a huge scene in the lobby of the fanciest building you’ve ever been in.
You make it onto the roof in record time, ready to chase after your target but of course, when have things ever been easy?
“y/n!”
You groan, cursing Kate’s awful timing. “Do we have to do this right now?”
The answer comes in the form of an arrow whizzing right past your ear.
Your shock morphs into anger in no less than five seconds, forcing you to forget your mission in favor of yelling at the idiotic archer you can’t help but still love. It’s more than obvious to you that Kate’s just trying to waste your time but you’ve never been one to walk away from an argument with her.
“Did you just shoot one of your stupid arrows at me?” You turn around to face her, quickly realizing she’s still aiming at you, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration while she watches you. “What the hell are you doing?”
“What the hell are you doing?” She responds. “Do you know who you’re working for?”
“You already know the answer to that,” you say while barely suppressing the urge to roll your eyes at her.
“Then you know exactly what I’m doing.”
Kate’s focus is unbreakable. She pays no mind to anything but her perfectly aimed bow and your reactions. The stray hairs that have fallen out of her ponytail are completely ignored, only serving to capture her and her natural perfection, the one that’s filled with chaos and stubbornness and a fire that’s unlike anything you’ve ever known.
You’re more than used to that fire…you’ve just never had it directed at you in the shape of a sharp arrow aimed right at your face.
If you were anyone else, maybe someone gentle or someone patient, or maybe someone not weighed down by so much trauma, you’d do the right thing and talk to the archer like an adult. But you’re not anyone else. You’re someone who thinks better with their fists than with their head.
And for a split second, you almost treat Kate like she’s anyone else other than the one person you’ve always loved.
“You’re-”
Your complaint gets cut short the second she lets her arrow fly.
It finds its target a few inches away from your feet and if Kate were to look hard enough, she’d find the real fear that’s started to slip into your features. “Don’t move.”
You swallow down the urge to spit out a snarky response at her face.
“Are you seriously going to shoot me?”
The seconds that go by are unbearable. You can hear the wind and the tension it carries between the two of you, you can make out the sound of New York traffic on the streets below, and if you focus hard enough, you can even hear Kate’s heavy breathing.
What you don’t hear, though, is an answer.

ribbon cuffs
pairing : kate bishop x reader
prompt : wrapping presents
𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲
Tumblr media
" y/n, can you help me a sec ? " you heard kate call from the living room.
she had been in there wrapping for around 25 minutes while you worked on making dinner and this was the first you'd heard anything from her since you parted ways.
you set down the knife you had been using to cook and turning down the stove to come to your heroes rescue.
" what's up ?" you questioned as you made your way into the living room.
your question was answered when you took in the scene infront of you.
lucky was sat on the arm chair, wrapped in three different colours of ribbon, fighting with a crumpled up piece of wrapping paper.
and then there was kate. sat on the floor infront of the coffee table, her hands tied together with the same ribbon wrapped around lucky.
" how did this happen ?" you asked incredulously, moving to crouch infront of your girlfriend and untie her hands.
" he was trying to eat the chocolates we bough for laura. but i ended up chasing him around the table, and the clever thing handcuffed me...somehow " she said with a soft laugh, her eyes focused on your hands as you undid the knots and twists that the labrador had created.
once you freed her hands, kate assisted you in unwrapping lucky from his colourful prison.
the two of you ended up with a pile of unwrapped ribbon that you would need to sort out, but for now, you could stuff the mess into a box and deal with it later.
after dinner, you helped kate finish wrapping the remaining presents.
and by 'help' you meant sit behind her as she wrapped them and hand her long strips of untangled ribbon to wrap around them.
the gifts were stacked onto the table before you went to bed, and when the three of you were curled up comfortably on the mattress, kate pulled out a piece of ribbon for lucky to play with, attached to her finger so that he couldnt get himself tangled up in that.

there's not enough major angst fics for Kate so here's my contribution :)
warnings: major character death, gunshot wound, blood
You couldn’t have been more proud of Kate. You had never seen someone work as hard as she had to get what she wanted, to help people. She was officially an Avenger now - your girlfriend worked alongside supersoldiers and the occasional god, aiding in the effort to defend the planet. Yet she still looked at you as though you were the single most important person in the universe.
You watched her from the other side of the room, giving her the time and space to soak up the praise and attention of the partygoers that welcomed her to the team. They were already desperate to impress her and hear of the stories she had accumulated during her time working with some other heroes. She was infamous, and nothing could ruin the high she was floating on.
As far as parties went, it was the best one of your life. You met Kate’s new team who were far less intimidating once you saw how easy they were to joke around with. Wanda said that you guys were cute and you had never seen Kate blush so much in her life. You danced together, you laughed, you made immoveable memories, you celebrated, you lived, letting the excitement of the future take hold of you until you finally retired to the balcony to spend some time alone. As much of a social butterfly as Kate was, she always prioritised her time with you.
“If this is what the superhero life is about then forget I was ever worried,” you told your girlfriend who smiled and leant her head against you. There had been stressful times where Kate had come home so battered and bruised that you had desperately tried to talk her out of the life she was pursuing, terrified that one day you would get a call that she wasn’t coming home. It had led to fights and sleepless nights that threatened the foundations of your relationship. But seeing Kate’s skills advance and the care her new team took for her, you were confident she was in safe hands.
“I still can’t believe it,” she sighed, gazing out at the city she had the honour of protecting.
“I can,” you said. “They’re lucky to have you. So am I.” Kate pulled away so that she could look at you clearly, the adoration in her eyes enough to shorten your breath. You never got used to that.
“I love you,” she said, pulling you flush against her to capture your lips. You grinned against her, feeling the strong surge of pride return.
“I love you too,” you muttered, suddenly stepping back to admire her better. “And I really love that suit on you,” you continued, making the archer roll her eyes but unable to suppress her smile.
“You might have mentioned it already,” she told you, peering back at the city. Perhaps if she had kept her eyes on you, she would have noticed it quick enough.
It felt like a pinch at first, more than an innocent bug bite or poke from a friend, a harsh pinch, right across your abdomen. You passed it off at first, thinking it was one of those random spontaneous pains that everyone got, until it became hot. Really fucking hot. You breathed out shakily, suddenly finding it to be taxing as the pain blossomed into something more sinister. It really hurt, so much that you had to clutch your stomach.
That was when you felt it, the wetness across your abdomen that was quickly spreading. “Kate?” You mumbled, confused. You were in shock. Kate snapped you out of that when you saw the look in her eyes.
“Y/n!” She rushed towards you as your legs gave out and you stumbled to the floor just as your girlfriend caught you. “Oh fuck. Fuck, someone help!” She screamed as you continued to gaze at her. God, it hurt so bad. Why did it hurt?
Kate continued to scream as she grabbed at your stomach and applied pressure, making the pain increase. You grabbed at her hand in an effort to communicate your pain because Kate wasn’t looking at you and speaking was suddenly impossible. When you grabbed her hand, you felt the wet you had gathered on her own, prompting you to look down and finally see the red pool taking over your new blouse. Why were you bleeding?
“Kate,” you managed to repeat, not caring for the people who suddenly appeared at your side. She was crying, you hated seeing her cry and needed to reach out and comfort her. You could always cheer her up.
The pain was becoming unbearable but still you focused on your girlfriend, the newest Avenger. What an accomplishment. She was incredible, you loved her so much.
“It’s okay, you’re gonna be alright.” Kate had always been a bad liar, something you discovered the first time she tried to organise a surprise date. It seemed that after all her superhero training, she still wasn’t very good at it.
You felt another pair of hands take over applying pressure to your stomach and heard someone mention a sniper. You weren’t listening to them, you were entirely focused on Kate’s slippery hand gripping your own with an iron grip, as though she was afraid to let go. “You’re okay,” she repeated, crying more.
“Yeah,” you whispered. “I’m with you.” You smiled at her, the love of your life. She smiled back but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. Still, you couldn’t help but admire how beautiful your girlfriend was, adamant on keeping her face ingrained in your memory.
You were lucky really, if you could have chosen how to spend your final moments, it would have been in Kate’s arms. You just wished she wouldn’t have been so sad, you hoped she wouldn’t stay sad for long, it would be such a shame to deprive the world of her contagious happiness. Even the pained encouraging smile she assured you with was something that shortened your breath. In fact, it was enough to steal your last one.

Love is a Learning Curve
Past! Kate Bishop x GN!R
Yelena Belova x GN!R
Love is a Dagger (P1)
The long awaited P2 I was never going to give, but people wanted closure to the angst I guess 😂 | WC: 3,638
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate woke up with a start, her body flopped back into the mattress regretfully, her arm covered her eyes to lessen the throbbing ache in her head. The blinds being open the root of the issue as the sun permeated into her already sensitive eyes. Drinking the night away was once an easy feat for the archer, but the closer she gets to the middle of her twenties the more she'd noticed it's losing its flair for fun.
——
Stumbling ungraciously out of bed she made her way to the bathroom and made herself a bit more human by taking a shower and getting dressed for work. Then she made her way downstairs to find nothing to eat, it threw her off because normally you'd have filled her up a thermos, and made her something to go, but she only shrugs, and rushes out the door to make sure she now had time to stop for a bite.
It wasn't all that strange an occurrence, on the rare occasion you did miss the opportunity to prepare her for her day, so she thought nothing of it, you were likely running late, and she assumed that had something to do with her partying last night so she didn't mind at all.
Her day flew by without any messages from you either, but she never checked them much anyway so she didn't notice. It wasn't until her phone rang on her way out of the office that she knew something must've been up.
"Hello?" she answered with slight hesitation, unsure on as to why the blonde was exactly calling her. "Kate Bishop, it's Yelena."
"Hey, yeah what can I do for you Yelena?"
"Are you coming to pick up Lucky?"
Kate's brows furrowed, because yes, technically Friday was her day to collect the dog from Belova's Doggy Daycare, but usually you just willingly picked up her slack. "Where's Y/N?"
The question was more so a thought she was having that ended up directed at Yelena, who simply cleared her throat, a sure sign that she knew something was up, but didn't wish to say.
"Yelena..." she was more desperate this time, and the blonde sighed, "Told me they were not going to be able to pick him up today, but I saw some suitcases and boxes in their car Kate."
"Oh."
"Yeah, they said today was your day to get him, but I guess it must've just slipped your mind," Yelena said with a nervous chuckle to follow, it was clear as day to the blonde that you just left your mutual friend without so much as a word shared, and though a part of her is rooting for you for finally putting yourself first for once, the other feels bad for the raven haired girl who's likely biting back tears at the news.
"Here, how about I take him home with me tonight. It's been awhile since him and Fanny had a playdate anyways."
"Thanks Lena, I'll get him in the morning."
That night Kate ordered in, and nursed a bottle of red wine until the buzz lulled her to sleep. When she awoke the following morning to find you'd yet to return her rose colored glasses fell.
Her strained eyes began to study the living room, and as she took it in she found any piece of you she once had was gone. All that had remained was a cherished framed photo of you, her and Lucky at Fanny's first birthday party.
Kate was racking her brain for a reason, anything she could come up with besides the glaring truth that she just didn't want to face. For the last year she'd been taking your love for granted, and it's true what they say: you don't know what you have until it's gone, and now she's just meant to live on like you don't exist.
The note you hid in your dresser drawer said just that when she stumbled up to your room.
"Dear Kit-Kat,
I'm sorry I couldn't face you, but it's best for us that I left without a trace. There's nothing left for us, you don't love me anymore, and I have held on to delusion for as long as I am willing.
If I had approached you I know you'd have tried to tell me I was wrong, that you did still love me, because your heart is too soft, and I would've clung to that hope until it failed me.
Love is a perilous thing really; I don't regret our journey, but I do regret staying this long. It's about time I set off to find what's out there for a loner like me, and for that reason I have disconnected my phone and gone off the grid.
I'll love you forever Kit-Kat, and I hope you are able to find someone who makes you happy, and who'll share their last slice with Lucky."
Kate's tears soaked through the crumpled paper, messy lines of blue ink began to run, distorting the message of half truths. Reading it hurt her tremendously, seeing that she'd made you believe she'd been stringing you along out of obligation, and not out of love was hard to read. It wasn't true, right? She loved you with all of her heart, but yet she took your presence for granted, and now she's all alone.
You actually left her (Just like she'd left you).
The archer had been neglecting her work for months as she scoured all over the city for you. Nothing was available to help her. You were apparently an expert at disappearing, because there wasn't a single trace of you anywhere.
It was pathetic really, she ran the most well known security and surveillance company around and yet she couldn't track you down.
With time, Kate realized that you were right.
The love she had for you faded until it was nothing more than words you say to protect the others feelings, but it also hadn't completely died. Kate was desperate to find you, to atone for all that she'd done to you by using you as her personal assistant instead of her lover.
Even if she lost touch with you, she knew that what she did likely distorted your view on love. The girl couldn't live with herself if she just left you to think that love is only a hopeless cause.
When things were young, and fresh it was like magic, and she wanted you to remember that. To look passed her betrayal, and the feelings of inadequacy she left behind in the hollowed heart that hardly beat in your chest anymore.
She needed you to know that her love for you might’ve devolved into the platonic, as is the case when people grow, but it’s still there In enough of a capacity that she won’t give up.
Kate was a mess, and in a way you were too.
You thought that getting a cottage out in the beautiful countryside of Norway was the way to go. Far away from the life you once lived, and the perfect place to enjoy your solitude. Then the loneliness set in against your will, and so you'd set off to find a furry companion.
At the shelter you saw a young pup that'd taken a liking to the elderly cat. He'd yap in her ear, and she'd purr in response, it was clear her ears were not functioning well anymore. You decided two for the price of one was great.
Simon showered you with love and affection whenever you entered the home, even if you'd only stepped out to get the mail. Then Posey, when she felt like jumping, would meet you in bed to cuddle and purr against your chest.
It worked, but only as a mask for the problem at hand really. Your foolish heart longed for a love like you'd once known. One full of passion and joy over the loveless mess it had become.
Still, you persisted and lived as if nothing was wrong. That was until Yelena had found you, and damn near broke your door off it's hinges.
"Y/N Y/L/N!" She shouted loud enough that you'd left the security of your room, blanket around your shoulders as you'd just woken up at her unexpected, rather rude interruption.
"How did you find me?" You groaned, and she ignored your question, opting to scour through your cabinets until she found some glasses. “Better yet, how did you even get inside?”
Yelena barked a laugh, insinuating that your question was ridiculous. Then she briskly swung her arm around and handed you a glass that was far too full of booze for a morning sip.
"It's nice to see you too, now drink the vodka, we have lots to discuss my dear old friend."
Yelena told you all about Kate's demise, and it broke your heart into pieces thinking she was actually this torn up about your departure. Then you remembered she relied on you to change her clothes some nights and the ache from being used had returned even stronger.
"If that's all, I think you should be going."
“Y/N, she wants you to come home.”
“This is my home Yelena, the only one I’ve ever known. Feel free to tell her that when you go back and offer her my location. Now go.”
You were being harsh with her, you knew that and most of you regretted it, but you also felt like you were being backed into a corner. As if Kate’s problems were always going to be yours.
“I understand leaving her, you deserved better, we all told you that.” Yelena pondered aloud, her voice uncharacteristically small. “But leaving all together? That was hard to stomach, I lost both of my closest friends in the blink. You off grid, and Kate to her grief. When is it enough passed on pain for you to forgive her?”
You went to lash out, to try and get her to see it from your end, but then you saw her hand shake as she gulped down the rest of her bitter vice without ever looking up. Not that she needed to, you could hear the sniffle she failed to cover up with the scuffing of her boots.
“I didn’t think I would be missed,” you softly admitted, your ties to Yelena, and the rest were through the connection of Kate. Never a part, only ever an extension of the friend group.
Or at least that’s what you had always thought.
“I felt your absence immediately,” she voiced though her voice quivered. “Your visit at the kennel every day was what made me smile.”
“I-.”
“There was no more happiness with you gone.”
The way she spoke made your heart warm with an affection you felt was foreign for her. There had never been any indication that she wanted you, or that you meant that much to her before.
“Yelena, what are you doing?” You stumbled back into the wall when you saw her rise to her feet faster than necessary. Her body out of her control, and under the influence of alcohol led her to stumble until she caged your body in.
“I wanted you first.” You were shocked to see the honesty in her eyes, booze goggles or not she was being sincere and you felt an urge to kiss her lips as they pouted familiarly. It was a common expression of hers whenever you’d have to go, you always thought it was for Lucky since she loved the retriever so much, but a part of you always wondered if it meant more.
But you had Kate… Even now, you had her to consider. “Lena, w-we can’t,” you stuttered as her cold hand held your face. “I understand.”
Before she could pull away with her wrong assumptions you wrapped your arms around her waist and buried your face into the crook of her neck. Yelena would never deny you comfort, not even when you just shattered her heart, so she hugged you back rather tightly.
“You’re going to be okay Y/N,” she whispered in her thick Russian accent, and your hammering heart felt like it was about to burst at the offered tenderness. “I’m here for you.”
You pulled away and cupped her cheeks with a teary smile, eyes shining with appreciation. Your lips pressed to her cheeks, and she looked at you utterly confused when your eyes met.
“I was saying, we can’t do this… yet.” Yelena’s eyes went wide and you kept your smile. “I can’t let you kiss me when I’m still trying to forgive Kate, it wouldn’t be fair to any of us.” Yelena’s heart beamed, the notion that all you felt for Kate now was a tainted love in need of a life altering cleansing made her hopeful.
“So you’ll come home?” You shook your head and wore a broken smile, fear encasing your heart as you realized you couldn’t do that. “I’ve built a life here Lena, I have space for you, but I can’t return to the stagnation of the states.”
“No, I know that,” Yelena refuted. “I just mean to make the amends with Kate Bishop, and to collect my things and Fanny who’s at Kate’s.”
“Does she know you’re here?” She shook her head. “No, but I think she knows deep down.”
“What about the kennel?” Yelena shrugged, and smiled wide. “I’ve got nothing in the states worth living for if you’re not by my side.”
“Then I will agree to a half day in New York.”
Yelena squealed and you cupped your ears while glaring in her direction playfully.
“I’ll be back for you in the morning then Y/N! We have Tony’s private jet, and Happy’s at the hotel I’m going to be staying at tonight.”
“You’ll do no such thing, I have a guest room. I’ll just have to clean it of the cat hair since I don’t usually have other humans over.”
“You sound like you’re an alien,” she laughed, then began to head to the door to collect her bag, and that’s when it dawned on you. “How’d you find me?” Yelena stood in the doorway with a knowing smirk on her face, and tossed her thumb backwards to the people outside.
“I guess we’re sharing a bed then,” you mused while waving back to the grinning redheads. Of course, she involved the FBI’s hottest couple.
The following morning came with butterflies fluttering beneath the pads of fingertips that lightly pressed into the skin that your crumpled up night shirt had left exposed. Yelena’s body was pressed into yours so tight you were sure there’d be a layer of sweat amongst the fabric.
“Good morning pretty one,” Yelena rasped, her voice thick with sleep, and Russian inflections. The butterflies must’ve began a rave because you could hardly focus on anything but the way that her simple words made your stomach flip. “Goor morning darling, are you hungry?”
“I’ll make breakfast,” she announced, body scrambling for the door, but fortunately for the sake of your cottage Wanda was there with a teasing smile and greasy spatula. “No need Miss. burns houses down while making eggs.”
“It was one time!” Natasha snorted from a far away room, “Yeah, one time too many! Mama was so mad about it that she moved back to Russia the second you turned eighteen.”
Yelena turned back towards you and ran into your open arms. You could feel her pout against your skin, and for a second you were imagining her firmly kissing the skin instead.
“They are so mean. I am happy to leave.”
“We’ll visit them,” you answered the silent question, as sarcastic as she was, you knew that her sisterly love for Natasha was unbreakable. The same could be said in reverse, those two have been inseparable since you first met them.
“Okay, thank you.” You ran a hand up and down her back for a few seconds, then the sound of your rumbling tummy brought you both to the dining area where the food was still piping hot. “You two could move in as well.”
Natasha threw you a glance that said she’d do it in a heartbeat, but Wanda was less inclined seeing as their kids, and Pietro were in the city.
“We’ll visit, I promise,” was all she offered, then silence followed as you all got ready to go, and made your way to the airport. Once on the jet you chose to lean against the blonde, and take a nap to silence the screams of your mind.
At the airport you hugged the couple goodbye, and let Natasha threaten you as any good big sister would when you were taking her little sister across borders after one day of being sort of involved. The redhead knew that she could trust you, it’s not like you were strangers, but she was also the one who once held a crying Yelena when you fled the country, and once prior when Kate asked you to be hers first.
Once the lot of you parted ways Yelena drove you over to Kate’s. You told her to go get her stuff, and though she was hesitant she knew you had to do this part all on your own.
You knocked on the familiar door, it was a hair too light as your fist had stalled mid thrust. It still managed to gather the woman’s attention though because it swung open before you could even begin to knock again. Kate’s body crashed into yours, and you reflexively caught her and held her as she cried loudly into your chest.
Without a moment’s hesitation you brought your conjoined bodies back over her threshold and guided her onto her couch. Kate wanted to hold on, but you left no room for her to try. A moment of comfort was all you could spare, and she knew it was selfish to expect more.
It was silent, Kate stared at you as you sat in the recliner you’d had to swipe debris from.
“I’m sorry.” You pursed your lips, humming a low tune as you absorbed her empty words.
“For who?” Kate flinched at your response, it’d been ages since she last heard your voice, and the chill it carried now was heartbreaking.
“You,” her lower lip trembled, and your anger softened a smidge at her obvious remorse.
“If I’d realized what I was doing, I wouldn’t have ever let it get so far that you felt like you had to run away from your entire life.”
“I didn’t run away from my life, I happily left yours Kate. Nothing about tending to your every whim was a life I ever dreamed up. Did you ever consider that the only thing I was running away from was you? That life with you had become so difficult that I had no choice but to drop off the face of the Earth and retire?”
“You are making it seem like I ordered you around,” she bit back, a bit offended by the animosity you’re throwing. “You willing fell into a role that never should’ve been. You were my partner, I know what I did was fucked up, but I would never have hurt you on purpose. Let’s not forget that you never said anything. Just left me a note one day and vanished.”
Silence fell as you were faced with the other side of the truth. You stayed and lived with the hurt of being forgotten, but in another turn you never fought to be seen either. Literally, there was never even a discussion, you just handled business separately, and cared for her wholly.
A relationship without communication is nothing more than two bodies out of sync.
“You’re right,” your tense shoulders deflated, and tears that fell from your eyes were wiped away by a gruff tongue trying to comfort you. “Hey Lucky boy, how have you been?”
“He misses you.”
You pet him for a very long time, trying your best to calm your nerves before you were to face her again in the less tumultuous light.
“I still love you Y/N, no longer romantically, but there’s still so much of me that loves you.”
Her words of a love never lost were actually comforting, hitting a nerve that very well would’ve been catastrophic just a day prior.
“I’ll love you forever Kit,” you gazed into her eyes, and smiled warmly, “You taught me so much, and when it was good there was no questioning that love had a purpose in life. I hope you find someone worth remembering.”
With your peace found you stood up, and, and pulled her into a strong embrace. The two of you swayed for a few seconds, then you pulled away and headed for the door.
“I’ll never forget you Y/N, I’m sorry I ever did.”
Kate watched as you picked up a green leash, and her mind caught up fast. “I hope you two are happy together. Invite me to the wedding please, I wouldn’t want to miss such a joy.”
You smiled to yourself while hooking the leash to Fanny, and left the apartment with a final lighthearted comment. “I’ll try not to forget.”
Kate smiled too, and fell back onto her couch.
There’s no one right way to love someone else, but you both knew that near the end of things you only loved the other in shades of wrong. As you drove back to the airport, your hand in another’s you realized that giving up was never the answer, but at the time it was necessary.
Love is a twisted game, sometimes you lose, sometimes you win, but no matter what, either outcome came with a journey of life lessons.

Tumblr media
She's a little bit psycho
But she follows
When I call in the middle of the night
Kate grimaced as she watched the boys circle round you, listening intently like obedient little puppies with wagging tails as you told a story about taking out five agents at once. They were completely captivated by you and it wasn’t just because of your knack for story telling.
These were some of Earth’s mightiest heroes; the strongest men on the planet but they all just about swooned whenever you would be generous enough to give them your time.
Bucky had his hand on the small of your back, his head dipped to be closer to your face and take in every word you said. Thor had leaned his elbow off the bar on the other side of you, making sure that he was flexing and you could see those bulging muscles. Sam was more calm and collected, standing in front of you casually with his hand in his pocket and the other holding a beer. However, he wasn’t discreet in how he’d looked you up and down every now and then, being enchanted by your figure. Shang Chi also stood next to Sam across from you and bellowed heartily at all of your jokes. His cheeks hurt from smiling so wide at everything you were saying.
It was hilarious really, all of this effort was being expended on you but at the end of the night, you’d be going home to Kate’s house to be used in any way she saw fit.
She’s got you wrapped around her finger
You try to linger
But she's already on her way to mine
“Doesn’t it bother you that she gets all of that attention?” Yelena asked, grabbing Kate’s focus away from you. She was one of the very select few people who knew of yours and Kate’s “arrangement”. The blonde sipped her drink thoughtfully and watched Kate adamantly protest.
“Absolutely not, no. No way. She’s her own person, she can do what she likes.” Kate insisted. She took a large gulp of the questionable spirit that Yelena had handed her and tried to hide the obvious burn in her throat to look cool in front of the assassin.
“If you say so, Kate Bishop,” Yelena shrugged. “Although I have heard the way you make her moan so I wouldn’t be too worried if I were you.”
Kate blinked several times in disbelief at her slightly unusual and unlikely friend. “What do you mean you’ve heard her moan?”
“I slept on your couch last Friday night.”
“But I didn’t invite you to my house on Friday night!”
Yelena groaned as if Kate was the one that was being unreasonable. “Kate, you should know by now that I can come and go without you even noticing. Besides, you’re focusing on the wrong part. I know that you are probably a better fuck than all of those men put together.”
Kate nodded, thinking about it a little with her eyebrow raised. Yelena was right, many times had you exclaimed at Kate that she was the best you’d ever had as she’d brought you to your climax several times in one session. The archer turned back to look at you again. Annoyingly, the guys had moved in even closer to you in a passive aggressive stand off to win your affection. Nevertheless, it was Kate that received the whimsical and suggestive eyes from across the room and she knew that it was her that would be making you moan again that night.
She plays with the boys
But she comes home to me
Cause she might be your girl
But she’s calling me daddy
The longer the night went on, the more primal showboating was exhibited by the men. They’d all shoved each other in a needy and pathetic attempt to show you how to play pool. It was Sam that prevailed and he’d pressed himself up against your back, whispering in your ear what to do and basically bending you over the table to “show you the best technique”.
Thor nonchalantly told you about his great battle stories from across the realms, being sure to drop in that many a time the odds were against him but he had emerged victorious. He contended that whilst a vibranium arm, ten “magic” rings and the shield were cool, they weren’t quite Mjolnir or Stormbreaker.
Bucky and Shang Chi had cornered you to settle a debate on what would make the best first date. Bucky was insistent that it was dinner and dancing; men these days just didn’t know how to treat a woman. Shang Chi had advocated for drinks and karaoke; it’s casual and fun, no one has to take themselves too seriously. When they had prodded you for an answer you just smiled sweetly and told them that both sounded like perfect ideas for a first date. This just spurred them on even more in hopes of achieving a date with you.
Kate started to feel more and more insecure watching all of these events unfold. It was like watching you being stalked as prey by a bunch of wolves. Suddenly, the idea occurred to her that maybe none of them were relenting because you hadn’t given them a reason to.
It was a tough pill to swallow; the idea that you had already given yourself over to them the way you did for Kate. Perhaps, you had actually slept with any number of them before and not told her. It’s not like the two of you discussed your other sexual partners while she was making you see stars. Still, watching you giggle and flirt with the guys whilst never displaying any signs of discouragement was all the evidence she needed.
Kate was starting to feel apprehensive that she was disposable to you. Whilst you might have been sleeping with other avengers and other people outside of the team for that matter; Kate had only ever wanted you.
She's mine
She wears a collar with my name
Secretive but not ashamed
Kate had had enough of watching the guys stumble over each other in desperate attempts to get close to you. Her breathing got heavy and her actions became aggressive. The final straw was watching Bucky put his arms around you from behind and swaying with you to the cheesy song playing.
Kate stormed over, puffing her chest out, with her hands in her pockets, exuding as much masculine energy as possible to join this competition.
“Come with me to the bathroom.” She ordered assertively giving you a look which told you that you should comply.
“Okay.” You replied, giving Bucky’s had a light tap. “Can you let me go, Buck? I’ll be right back, promise.” He quickly let you go with a pout on his face, devastated that you were going but eager for the return you’d promised.
“Why do girls always need to go to the bathroom together?” Sam interjected with a laugh. It amused you as you knew this wasn’t going to be a cute little catch up whilst topping up lipglosses together.
“I would tell you why, Sam, but then I’d have to kill you.” You flirted as Kate took your hand to pull you away. She groaned internally and rolled her eyes as you gave the boys a cute little wave and followed her into the bathroom.
Kate wasted no time in shoving you up against the wall, pinning your hands above your head and kissing you roughly. You moaned a little into her mouth, having been taken by surprise and you felt a familiar heat grow between your legs.
“You. Are. Driving. Me. Crazy.” She growled against your mouth before kissing you again, almost as though she was trying to consume you.
You smirked into the kiss, shuffling a little against her as you got more and more turned on. Kate was firm and still, holding your wrists in place against the wall. She moved to kiss along your jaw and finally down to your neck. The smell of cologne was lingering on you. It could have been from any of them, given that they’d all taken turns in trying to press themselves against you. It burned in Kate’s nostrils and motivated her even further to claim you.
Infatuated with an incredible need to mark her territory, Kate had become no better than the guys.
She harshly bit down on your neck and sucked in your most sensitive spot which inspired an excited yelp from you.
“Fucking hell, Kate.” You breathed out, moaning as she kept going. She dropped your wrists and her hands roamed the rest of your body, kneading your tits, dragging her nails down your abdomen over your dress and landing with a smack on your ass, cupping your cheeks.
You had wrapped your arms around her shoulders, enjoying every second of having her hands all over you. In truth, you enjoyed flirting with the guys. Partly because they were all undeniably handsome but mostly because you know it would get Kate all worked up like this.
Once she’d left a suitably obvious hickey on your neck she left a kiss on it and admired her work. She reached her hand up and grabbed on to your throat tightly and you relished in the squeeze.
“Who do you belong to?” Kate asked, giving you a stern and authoritarian look.
“You.” You moaned, enjoying this a little too much already.
“You, what?”
“You, daddy.”
Kate smirked and bit her lip at you becoming a mess already for her. “That’s right, babygirl. That’s fucking right.”
She turned you round so your chest was pressed against the wall. Your ass received a couple of harsh spanks before Kate pulled the hem of your dress up to rest on your hips. Her next move was to get on her knees behind you, biting at the sore flesh of your ass and you could have screamed. Fingertips digging into the wall and legs trembling, you turned your head to look at the door being so painfully aware that anyone could just walk in.
Kate pulled your underwear down and let it fall to your ankles. Putting her hand between your thighs, she parted your legs to get at her favourite part of your body. Slowly, she opened her mouth and dragged her tongue along your aching clit. A gasp was emitted from your lips and you arched your back to stick your bum out, exposing more of your pussy to Kate’s tongue.
Kate chuckled at your eagerness and submission. Her hands gripped your hips to keep you in place as she started to suck on your clit. She would take long gulps and hollowed out her cheeks to the drag the pleasure out for as long as possible. You were a writhing, moaning mess. Your forehead was pressed against the wall in a pathetic attempt to ground yourself. Your hands awkwardly flailed from resting against the wall to putting them over Kate’s on your hips. Usually, you would tug at her hair but with her being on her knees behind you, it was too difficult.
She hummed contentedly against you and it sent a sharp jolt of pleasure through your body. The mewls and cries you let out were so high pitched, you were both a little in shock that your voice could even go that high. Kate would alternate her method between sucking your clit to get it all nice and sensitive and then would lap it up with her tongue. The noises you were making told her all she needed to know about what a good job she was doing.
She noted your legs beginning to shake and knew you were close. Feeling yourself get very sensitive you tried to move away from her. Kate responded with gripping your hips tighter and digging her nails in. This sent you flying over the edge.
“Oh my god, thank you, daddy! I’m cumming, fuck!” You screamed as you let go, Kate sucking for longer in order to drag your orgasm out for as long as possible.
You leaned against the wall for support, your hands pressed on it to steady yourself. You focused on your haphazard breathing and attempted to regulate it. Kate gently pulled your underwear back up and stood up to pull your dress back down. She kissed your shoulder repeatedly and rubbed your back as you came to.
“You wanna go home?” She asked softly.
“Yeah.” You replied, knowing it wouldn’t be long before both of you were up for round two.
You should see their face when they finally realize
That she plays with the boys
But she comes home to me
It was pretty obvious when you and Kate emerged from the bathroom what you had been up to. Her hand was on the small of your back and she occasionally gave you some shoulder kisses. Likewise, you adorned a large love bite on your neck whilst your face and chest were red and flushed.
Kate wished she could have taken a picture of the guys’ faces. Each one of them had their jaw dropped in complete shock, having realised just how naive and clueless they had been all night. It made you giggle but it made Kate smug.
You took your bag back from Shang Chi who was holding it for you, giving the four men a sweet smile. “Tonight was fun, I’ll see you guys later. Bye.”
They wordlessly all raised their hands to wave you off. All of them were bitter and disappointed they had not caught on that it was Kate they had needed to compete with.
You turned to Kate who had tasked herself with sorting the Uber. Her hand returned to your back as she guided you out of the bar. She may not have had good odds in a fight against any of the four men, but she had won this and honestly, this was more satisfying.
Head's a mess
She's responsible
Change her mind
It's impossible
You rested your head on Kate’s shoulder in the car, relaxing into her. Kate moved and put her arm around you to which you gave a contented sigh.
Kate looked down at the sweet sight of you in her arms and began to wonder if this was enough for her. She couldn’t handle watching men flirting with you in a bar right in front of her face so she shuddered to think about what you did behind her back.
Her brain flooded with intense intrusive thoughts. Bucky’s vibranium arm round your neck, squeezing it just the way you liked. Sam bending you over that pool table, riding your dress up and pulling your underwear down just as Kate had done in the bathroom. Shang Chi spanking you as you let out excited moans, begging him for more. Thor eating you out as though you were his last meal and making your voice hoarse with your screams.
Kate groaned, the thoughts making her feel nauseous. She was aware that you had maybe done any of those things before. The real kick in the teeth though, is that you weren’t Kate’s girlfriend and were perfectly free to still do those things.
You had never suggested wanting anything serious, seemingly content with the arrangement you and Kate had whilst freely flirting with the guys on nights out. It occurred to the archer that she might control you in the bedroom but in real life it was you that held the reigns. You had everyone right where you wanted them.
Watch the girl get what she likes

Masterlist | Marvel masterlist | Words: 1.3k
You’ve been struggling with mental health issues for a long time now, but lately your anxiety and depression have been getting worse again. Taking your medicine doesn’t seem to have any effect and it’s making you very easily agitated. You’re noticing yourself sinking away, and messing up in your relationship more and more. While struggling to take care of yourself, it feels impossible to also be there for Kate. It’s not like you don’t want to, you’re just unable to.
It had never been this bad and you knew that you needed help, you had done some research and found a program a couple of cities over. It was a mental health institution that focussed on long term mental issues, they offered psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors to help with medication, among many other things that you felt like you might need on your journey on getting better.
Now came the part where you had to tell Kate. You were not looking forward to the conversation but you know you had to do it sooner or later. Kate sat down with you at the kitchen table while you explained the struggles you’ve been facing. “I need help Kate, I can’t keep going like this.” You could see that Kate was trying to stay strong, she had noticed things weren’t going well of course, and she had tried to support you to the best of her abilities. She didn’t know it had gotten this bad though. The two of you had a big conversation on your options. But you had your heart set on being alone and getting professional help.
"I don't want to lose you, but if I keep going like this, I know I will. I need to get this help, it's a six month program. One of the program's rules is no outside contact.” Next came the part of the conversion that you were dreading. “ I love you, Kate, but I don't want you to wait around for me, that wouldn't be fair. I want you to live your life Kate, and if that means you're moving on from me, that's okay." It hurt you to say that but like you said, you hadn't been good for her and who knows if the program would even help you get better. You couldn't ask her to wait for you, to see if you'd get back to the loving girlfriend you had been before. Kate knew better than to argue with you when you had your mind set on something. With tears streaming down her face she let you know that she understood. "When are you leaving?" You didn't want to hurt her more, which is why you signed yourself up right away. “I’m leaving tonight. There's a bus that leaves at 9pm." Kate was quiet for a moment. "Please let me drive you?" You nod in agreement, "Okay."
You say your goodbyes as she hands you your bags. Kate is about to turn back around to her car when you take her hand and pull her into a hug. “I’m sorry.” You say barely above a whisper. As you’re walking towards the entrance Kate calls after you, “Take care of yourself please.” You freeze in place, that’s the point you can no longer hold back your tears. “You too.” You say without turning back around. You open the door and walk to the reception desk to officially sign in.
** SIX MONTHS LATER **
After six months of therapy, hard work and lots of group sessions, you finally felt like you were starting to be yourself again. You were happy, for the most part at least. You were scared to go back to your old life without having Kate by your side, but you would have to get used to that. You packed up all your stuff, including all of the journals and workbooks you had used during your stay, and headed out the door.
You looked around wondering in which direction the bus stop was, since you didn’t end up taking it on the way there, when your eyes landed on a familiar car. You couldn't believe what you saw when you moved your eyes over a bit more and saw Kate sitting on a nearby bench. You rushed to her, hoping that maybe she hadn't given up on you after all, though she could also be here as a friend of course, so you rushed with caution.
Kate stood up when she saw you heading her way. The smile on her face and love in her eyes was enough for you to know that your hope wasn't misplaced. You drop your bags and run the last few feet. You ran right into her arms, a place you missed so dearly. Her smell surrounded you and immediately made you feel like you were home. You held each other in silence for a long time. "I missed you so much." Kate whispered, breaking the silence. You felt your eyes welling up with tears, “I missed you too.”
After a long time you break the hug. “Can I take you home?” Kate asks nervously. You smile at her, “Yes please.” The drive home is quiet, both just enjoying being in each other's presence again. Back home you sit down on the couch, Kate sits down with you. “I guess we’ve got some things that we need to talk about, right?” You nod and grab one of your notebooks.
“Well, first off, I guess I should ask where we stand. You know, since I told you moving on would be okay.” Kate takes no time to respond to your question, “I am with you through the bad and the good, moving on was never an option. I think we might need to work on some things, but in my eyes it’s still you and me.” You're relieved to hear her say that. “To me too. And yeah, on the topic of working on things. I will continue to have weekly therapy sessions, and if you’re up for it I would like you to join me for a few.” Kate nods, “Of course.” You continue, “I need to pick up my new meds tomorrow and start on them right away, as well as log my thoughts and stuff like that. But that is for me personally, I know you were talking more about us related things. That’s where the notebook comes in. I have gotten lots of tips and exercises we could do to improve our communication on these harder topics, and the improvement from my side of course. Besides that I am open to whatever you want and need. I want to ensure that I won’t hurt you like I did again.”
Together you read through the provided exercises, before sharing stuff from your time spent apart. When you’re all caught up Kate turns to you again. “There’s one thing I’ve been wanting to ask you ever since I saw you walk up to me.” - “What’s up? You can ask me anything.”
“Can I kiss you?” Your lips curl up into a smile. Instead of answering her question with words you place your hand on her cheek and lean forward. Your lips meet hers, and the familiar feeling of her soft lips engulfs your senses. It was a soft kiss filled with longing. Once you parted from the kiss you stayed close to her, “I love you, Kate. Thank you for everything, it means the world to me.” Kate starts playing with your hair, an action that always soothes you, “I love you too.” “Can we order some pizzas?” Kate smiles “Oh, yes, for sure!”

LIFEBOAT
SUMMARY — when drift too far out to shore, kate is always there to throw you a lifeboat and bring you back in
Tumblr media
These days, it feels like there are oceans between you and everything you care about. You feel disconnected, isolated, like you’re drifting further and farther out to sea with any and each insignificant blow of wind. You think that you’ve been set on this course for a while now, and maybe, you were even the one who built the boat that carries you out with the tide. You’ve never felt like you had a home in your family, in your friends, on the streets you grew up on. For your entire life, you had been nothing but a ghost caught in the breeze; the weightlessness of your existence subjecting you to riptides and invisibility.
When you met Kate, you were at your lowest. The days were short and the nights were even shorter, flashes of time and days coming and going without as much significance as remembering what you’d had for dinner, or if you’d eaten at all. She was like a life raft, like sunshine breaking across the shore after thunderstorms, but the rain can only leave for so long. Eventually, the sky always opens again, and when it rains, it pours.
You hadn’t left your dorm in days, hardly even rolled out of bed more than a handful of times to pee or brush your hair. You’re sure that it's now matted and all sorts of knotted into the hair tie you stole from Kate’s bedside table the night that you left in a panic feeling like your heart was sinking to your feet with no explanation. Your classes had gone unattended, your assignments undone. Whatever had happened, whatever had been the reason, you were reverting back to the ghost lost at sea that Kate had rescued, and it broke your heart even more than feeling like you mattered to noone as much as they mattered to you.
Kate had been leaving voicemails, texting you frequently, even when you didn’t answer, even when her messages just became a red notification bubble, she’d text again. She told you about her day, about her classes, about the dining hall and how she missed your hugs. She asked if you were okay, but she never dwelled on it. She was perfect, and you felt like an asshole for just watching her messages collect and not having the energy to pick up the phone even to just let her know you loved her all the same as you did last week. You felt like she was the last thing you deserved. Her goodness, her kindness, her sweet smile and humor. How could you deserve something so good?
A sudden knock at your door scared you, though it was soft and admittedly timid. Nobody had come by in months, nobody realized just how far from shore you were, nobody spared you a second glance, nobody ever took your name home with them. You were something so temporary it almost made you fragile, like a child's favorite trinket that never left the shelf in fear of it breaking or becoming lost. You had been sat on a shelf collecting dust, the novelty of you wearing off and thin.
You had hope that whoever was at your door would take your silence as rejection, but you would never be that lucky. The next knock was persistent, and this time, a whimsical pattern. You huffed, untangling your limbs from the soft throw blanket you’d lived beneath for the last few days, and dragged your feet toward the door. Not bothering to smooth the frizz in your hair, you opened the door with lifeless eyes. Your heart further plummeted at the sight of Kate before you, illuminated by the yellow hallway lights, drenched from the rain and holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers and her favorite pizza.
“I know you don’t like pizza, but I also know that you probably haven’t eaten in a few days and… Well I tried to make you that pasta you like, but then Lucky needed to pee and I took him out and it started raining and I left the pot on the burner- oh god, that was your favorite pot. Uh, I brought pizza. I figured… I figured that if anything you could peel the cheese off and just eat the dough like a weirdo. Or, or if you want something else I can totally go get that!” She rambled anxiously, looking all over your face for any indication that her showing up was the wrong decision. She’d tried to give you the space you wanted, but eventually her heart won out.
For the first time in days, a smile pulled at your lips and a sound that someone resembled your laugh broke the silence you’ve kept for days. Your voice was hoarse, barely a whisper from so many days without it, but just hearing you, seeing you standing; still alive, reassured Kate. “No no, uh, pizza is perfect.” You promised, opening the door wider for her to step inside.
Kate couldn’t fix everything, but she could throw you a lifeboat and help to pull you back to shore, and she would. She always would, and you’d do just the same for her.

It's different here
Paring: kate x reader
Genre: angst
Warnings: mentions of self-harm,blood, and torture. Short, grammatical and spelling errors cause I failed English

You sigh quietly walking into the kitchen to get yourself some water, it's been months since the avengers had rescued you from the grasp of HYDRA but you have yet to adjust to the feeling of being secure.
Reaching up to grab a glass from the cupboard as quietly as possible assuming that most of the avengers would be asleep at that hour, so enveloped in your thoughts you didn't notice the glass slipping from your finger tips until it hit the floor.
Gasping silently your mind traps you in a flashback and your body moves against its will.
Kate who heard the crash ran into the kitchen and gasped at the state you were in. Eyes blank and lifeless as you clutch shreds of glass in your palms, blood trickling down you forearms and even more escaping from where you kneeled on some of the broken shreds.
"Y/n what are you doing?!". As quickly and safely as she could she got you to release the glass from your bloody palms and onto your feet supporting most of your weight as the glass embedded in your knees made it hard to stand.
The brunette attempted to move you but you stayed frozen. " I apologize sir dreykov. I didn't mean to break the glass". The lifeless sound of your voice makes the young archer cringe and her attempt to get you moving is again fruitless.
" what is going on?". The sound of the thick Russian accent let's kate know the blond assassin was in the room. Green eyes ran over your figure and Kate's runny eyes and failed attempts to have you move.
"Please. Yelena". Kate has no idea what she's pleading for but what she did know was that you needed to be clean up before you bleed out.
Yelena, seemly understanding the trance you're under clears her throat and straighten her posture. "Let her go kate bishop".
"What! Are you insane? Look at he-"
"let.her.go"
The tone left no room for argument and Kate begrudgingly let you fall onto the floor. "On your feet widow". You flinch slightly but made no move to stand.
"On your feet widow!". The blonde's forceful tone has you standing immediately and Kate gags at the glass digging into you knees. "To your chamber".
You body moves automatically to the direction of your room and the archer fights every will in her body to help you when she receives a disapproving glare from the shorter girl standing at her side.
When your out of sight yelena sighs quietly before facing the distort brunette. "Dreykov would make us eat in glassware and if we ever broke them he'd make us squeeze them as hard as we could in our hands as well as kneel on them".
Kate's mouth opens on close not sure how to process the information she was just given. "In the state she's in right now all she'll listen to is orders".
With that, yelena leaves to return back to her room, and Kate dashes to your room. When she gets there, you're sat on your bed unmoving. She tips toes to your bathroom to get a first aid kit and returns gently kneeling in front of you.
"Y/n?". The brunette tries but you remain unresponsive, and she remembers what yelena told her. "Widow." Kate cringes at the word but your blank eyes met hers.
With harsh demands, kate was able to remove the remaining glass and clean your wounds gently. Each touch sends a jolt of surprise through your body not being use to being handled carefully.
When finished, the archer stares at your frozen frame with another sigh she begins to pack the kit as she's about to stand, you grab hold of one of her wrists causing the girl to jump in shock.
"Y/n?"
"Don't go...please?"
Kate looks at your teary eyes, noticing the blank look is now replaced with one of vulnerability and gently lays your body down on the bed before joining you and bringing your body into hers while being mindful of your wounds.
"You don't ever have to do that again. It's different here." The brunette says into your ear before placing a gentle kiss on your temple, and all you can do is silently sob while she held you.

WARNINGS: smut, cheating (R had a husband), kitchen sex, breeding, Kate has a dick, being caught, blood kink, knife kink, use of knives, kinda playboy!Kate, degrading, praise kink, think that’s all :)
NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO STEAL, COPY, OR REBLOG MY WORK AS THEIR OWN!!
Your walls clamped tightly around the younger woman’s cock as she drove into you, forcing her hand over your mouth in order to silence your loud moans. Your eyes squeezed shut while your body continued to rock back and forth, her smirk only bringing you more annoyance combined with a sick pleasure. Your husband was sleeping a singular room away, your body being placed on the cold counter of the kitchen as Kate stood in front of you. Her clothes had been discarded previously along with yours, creating a small pile of fabric by her feet but neither of you could care less about the mess.
“You need to be quiet, slut. Weren’t you just worrying about him hearing you?” She muttered in a hushed tone, yet you could still hear it loud and clear as the words seeped into your mind, the degrading nickname sending you into spirals. She picked up on this.
“Awh, you like it when Daddy tells you how bad you are? You must fucking love it, I can feel you clenching around me.” She moaned lowly, goosebumps traveling across her body as a chill went down her spine. You weren’t the first to be panting beneath her, but you were definitely her favorite sight out of all.
“C’mon, tell me, tell me how much you love it.” She removed her hand from your face, and before you could even process what she had done, whimpers were escaping you faster than the speed of light.
“I-I love it, Daddy.” She slapped your cheek, causing the rising tears to suddenly fall onto the now reddened skin.
“You love what, baby?” You threw your head back, hands fumbling to find her biceps as you held onto her for dear life. Her grip landed on your thighs as she held you firmly, her face close as she created marks of her arrival on your neck.
“I love it when- fuck! I love it when you treat me like a bitch, wanna be your slut.” She groaned, chuckling darkly in response. You should’ve never let her back in, but when she came to your door late at night after sending you a quick yet truthful ‘I miss you’ message, you knew there was no hope. You felt so shameful for acting on such sins, but it felt so heavenly when her cock would tear you up in ways your husband could never do.
That’s when it all started, her pinning you to the wall as she groped you through the loose pajamas you had worn for your partner, only to receive a small compliment before he went to bed, not even registering what you were ensuing or just not wanting it. Kate would never. She’d never miss an opportunity to worship your body in all the ways he failed to do. She thought, no, knew he was a fucking idiot for not falling to his knees and begging to make sweet love to you right then and there, so it was her job to make up for it.
“Maybe I’ll get you on your knees to suck me off like a dirty whore. You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” You nodded sharply, placing your chin on her shoulder as she inhaled your scent. It was her favorite perfume, the one she bought you during her shopping spree where only you were on her mind, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of clothing, expensive jewelry, and slutty lingerie, none that were meant for your husband's eyes.
She fluttered her eyes open as her sight landed on a knife holder placed on the same counter you were just on, now you were in her arms and it was even better.
“Here’s the deal, baby,” She started. “You’re gonna cum all over my cock and in return, I’m gonna fill up this pretty cunt. Then, I’m gonna take that knife, and ‘ima carve my name on your beautiful body. So whenever Steve wants to fuck you, he’ll see that you’re all mine.” There was a part of you that feared the pain she’d cause, but the other side of you craved it. You craved her touch, whether it was sweet or painful, you wanted it all.
“Please- need your babies, Daddy.” You pulled on her long, black hair that caused an ache in her scalp, but she didn’t mind. Your feet dug into her ass, your legs around her waist starting to become sore.
“I’ll make you a Mommy, baby girl, I fucking promise.” She grabbed the sharp object, now holding your entire weight in just one arm. Her strength had always amazed you.
The blade sunk into you, causing you to let out a silent scream. She bit her lip as blood seeped out of you, droplets landing on the counter and floor. It hurt so bad, but it felt so good.
“You doing okay?” She asked in the heat of the moment, and you could feel the care she held for you, creating a puddle of warmth in your heart.
“Yeah, ju-just keep going…please?” She didn’t give a worded response, only continuing as you asked. You looked down, noticing the letter being carved into your soft skin. It was a K, and you realized there would be no hiding it from Steve. This was it. This was the moment when everything would change for better or for worse.
Her thrusts weren’t as fast but exchanged for a deep, powerful desire. She didn’t want to ruin her creation, she wanted it to be perfect, it’s what you deserved.
“Nothing but the best for my princess.” She admired her work before disposing of the knife, letting her thumb brush over the open wound. Now she could fulfill her promise, now she could release her finish deep inside of you like both of you had been wanting for months now. Ever since you two slept together for the first time, it all changed. You couldn’t get enough of one another, you’d grown addicted as if she was some sort of drug, a highly illegal drug that is.
“Cum.” A small phrase did so much as your release instantly hit, bringing Kate even closer. She wasn’t letting you go, not even when her thrusts stilled in response to her cum filling you up, a few drops leaking out of you and joining the mess on the floor.
“Take it. Fucking take it, whore.” You choked out a sob as you felt your womb being filled to the brim, just like she planned.
“I hope you get pregnant, just so I can show that bitch you’re mine.” There was a small moment of silence between the two of you, the only sound being your shared pants and your winces whenever she brushed over your torn skin.
“Y/N? Honey, is that you?” You both shared a look of fear when the deep voice was heard.
“Shit.”

Between Duty and Love
Tumblr media
pairing: Kate Bishop x fem! reader
warnings: angst, arguing(?) reader gets mad, fluff at the end (I think that’s it? let me know if I missed something! This is my first time posting here</3)
word count: 921
summary: Kate has been spending all her time at work and has been accidentally ignoring y/n.
——————————————————————————-
Kate Bishop sat at her desk, surrounded by the remnants of her latest mission. Papers scattered, her laptop screen glowed with reports, and her phone buzzed incessantly with notifications. Kate took a moment to rub her tired eyes before diving back into the pile of paper work on her desk. It was another late night of fighting off random criminals, and going back to the compound to finish up stacks of paperwork.
Meanwhile, in the shared apartment that she and her girlfriend shared, the air hung heavy with tension. The clock struck midnight, and the front door slowly creaked open, revealing her girlfriend on the other side of the door, Y/N, with a look of frustration etched on her face.
"Kate," Y/N said, her voice tight with anger.
"You promised you'd be home hours ago. What happened?" Kate looked up, guilt written across her features. "I know, I know. I'm sorry, babe. There was just this last-minute thing I had to take care of but this is important, Y/N.” Kate breathed in. “There's been a surge in criminal activity, and the team needs me—"
Y/N interrupted, her voice rising, frustration boiled over, the pent-up emotions finally bursting forth. "The team always needs you, Kate! But what about us? What about our plans? Every time we try to spend time together, you're off on some mission or buried in work."
Kate's heart sank as she realized the toll her actions were taking on their relationship. "I'm trying to keep the city safe, Y/N. You know that." Her eyebrows furrowed as she huffed out.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you stood still, the anger and hurt swirling inside you like a tempest. "I need someone who's here for me, not somebody who’s constantly gone. I can't keep living like this. I’m going to stay with a friend for awhile."
Kate's heart sank as she watched you turn away, the pain in your voice cutting through her like a knife. "Wait, Y/N, please. Let's talk about this."
But you were already halfway to the door, your footsteps echoing in the empty apartment. With a heavy heart, Kate sank back into her chair, the weight of your words bearing down on her like a crushing weight.
Days turned into weeks, the silence between you and Kate stretching on like an endless abyss. Each passing moment only served to deepen the rift between you, the pain of your separation a constant ache in both your hearts.
Alone in your friends apartment, you couldn't shake the memories of your time together. The laughter, the shared moments of intimacy, the feeling of being truly seen and understood. But alongside those memories lurked the pain of feeling abandoned.
Unable to bear the weight of your emotions any longer, you made a decision.
You made your way to the Avengers headquarters, where Kate had been spending most of her time lately. The familiar sight of the towering building filled you with a sense of apprehension, but you pushed forward anyways. As you approached a familiar office, you could hear the muffled sound of voices from within. With a hesitant knock, you pushed open the door, stepping into the dimly lit room.
Kate's eyes widened in surprise as she caught sight of you, her expression a mix of hope and trepidation as she quickly shot up from her seat and made her way towards you. “Y/N? What are you doing here?”
Taking a deep breath, you squared your shoulders, steeling yourself for the conversation ahead. "I came to talk, Kate. I’m sorry." For a moment, silence hung heavy in the air. You continued speaking. “I know this job means a lot to you, I know what I signed up for when we started dating..”
Then, with a resigned sigh, Kate gestured for you to take a seat next to her.
The words poured from your lips like a rushing river, the pent-up emotions finally finding release. You spoke of your hurt and your anger, of feeling neglected and unimportant in Kate's life. But beneath it all, there was a thread of love and longing, a desperate hope that things could still be salvaged between you.
Kate listened in silence, her expression pained as she took in your words. And when you were finally spent, she reached out, taking your hand in hers.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I never meant to ignore you. I've been so caught up with work that I didn’t realize I was hurting you.” Tears welled up in Kate's eyes as she spoke, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air.
With a shaky breath, you reached out, cupping Kate's face in your hands. "I love you, Kate. But we can't keep living like this. We need to find a balance to make time for each other."
A flicker of hope lit up Kate's eyes as she leaned in, pressing her forehead against yours. "I promise, Y/N. From now on, I'll make sure to balance my job and to spend time with you.”
You smiled softly and pressed your lips against Kate’s, which she happily accepted.
-
As the days passed, Kate kept true to her promise. She made a conscious effort to prioritize your relationship, carving out time in her busy schedule for you. Whether it was a quiet dinner at home, a simple stroll in the park, or simply curling up together on the couch to watch a movie. Kate made sure that you felt loved and cherished.

Hi can I request a fluffy Kate bishop x female reader where reader shows Kate what squish mellow she wants after Kate sees her ogling at some?
This is the best fic idea ever anon
Frost covered window - Kate Bishop
Tumblr media
You'd been on a walk, out to get some coffee with your girlfriend Kate by your side, listening as she mumbled on about her latest mission with Clint, and her struggles to house-train lucky, despite having had the dog for over a year now. You were beginning to think such a thing was a hopeless task when the dog had gained such common habits, but Kate was determined to make it work. There was pure love in her heart, and when she changed the subject, broaching the topic of going shopping with you—something you hadn't done together in a while—you could hear the smile playing between her words. It was bright, and when you looked at her, the flash of her teeth and the sweet, reassuring shine in her eye was all it took to convince you to agree. But for now, you were getting coffee, so shopping would have to wait.
Or so you thought. Walking down the wintering streets of New York was no new task to you, but you'd never taken the deepest of time to glance into many of the shop windows. There was one store, however, that had stolen your heart long before any other had the chance when you first moved here, and that was a small retail warehouse with the cutest plushies in the window.
Some were regular stuffed animals, teddy bears, and fluffy dogs that parents would buy their children in the place of a real living pet for Christmas, but they weren't the things that stole your heart. The deep desire you held for the store was due to one thing and one thing only. The Squishmallows that sat in the shop window, all different colours, animals, objects, and sizes. You were absolutely obsessed with the idea of owning one, but one of the plushies, in particular, drew your eyes to it each time you passed the window. It had been there for weeks, the cutest thing you had ever seen, and you were desperate for it. So desperate in fact that you stop in the middle of the street once you reach the store, Kate walking on ahead of you before she realises that she's left you behind.
When she backtracks, standing back at your side with an amused smile, you're snapped out of the trace that the store window had put you in. "Sorry," you mumble taking Kate's hand, "let's go."
You move to talk a step forward, to keep walking toward your trusted coffee shop, when Kate pulls you back to her side. "You want one, don't you?" Her smile is wide as she asks the question, and you don't know if the cold causes the red tint to your cheeks, or if it is in fact, an embarrassed blush.
"No, I was just looking." You tug on her hand again, though your gaze travels back to the window where your eyes lock on that one Squishmallow, staring back at you in the hopes that you will buy it this time. After every passing of the store, it calls to you, that singular plushie, begging you to take it home.
"Which one?" Kate's voice comes again, and you turn back to her, pretending not to long for the thing in the window as much as you truly are.
"What'd you mean?" She's still smiling and as you say it you watch Kate's gaze flicker between you and the window full of toys.
She pulls you closer to the store, an arm around your waist as you both face the glass, looking through its frosted exterior. "Which one do you want?" Her voice is genuine and not mocking at all like you thought it might be. When you look at her, she's eyeing the toys closely, as if examining which one would be best for you.
You give in, and point to the Squishmallow in the corner, the one that had been catching your eye for more than a few weeks. You couldn't believe it hadn't sold yet with how cute it was.
"That one there?" Kate points too as she says it, stepping forward to get a closer look and bringing you with her, arm still around your waist. "It is pretty adorable," She turns her gaze to you at last, her smile still present, "Just like you."
The line is so cheesy that it makes you laugh, but before you can respond Kate is dragging you into the store, the dinging of the entryway bell alerting the man behind the counter of your appearance. He's old, wrinkles covering his face like a crumpled piece of paper or perhaps a well-loved map. He seems kind and smiles as you head over to the toys in the window.
"Kate, no." You try to pull your girlfriend back as she reaches for the toy you'd been ogling previously but Kate's stronger than you are, taking the soft thing in her arms before you can even think to leave the shop.
"You want it?" She takes your hand, placing it on the toy and waiting for your reaction, and as much as you hate people spending money on you, the feeling of the comforting plushie, combined with its cuteness is tempting. You smile when your fingers meet its soft fabric and instantly Kate knows the answer is yes. She brings it up to the counter without a second thought, smiling at the old man.
"We'll take this one, please." He grins back at her, darting his eyes to you and scrunching his nose in approval.
"About time, I've seen you eyeing this cute thing up for about a month now, I kept it on hold just for you."
His statement is alarming and both yours and Kate's eyes widen, though for different reasons. "You've kept this on hold for me this whole time?" Your voice sounds just as shocked as you feel, but Kate buts in before the man can answer, her eyes on you and a frown resting heavily upon her features.
"You've wanted this for a month and didn't tell me? I could have got it ages ago if you'd asked."
All you can do is shrug in response and the old man at the counter lets out a raspy laugh, from the cold air outside or his age, you don't know. "Well, you're getting it now and that's what counts." He rings up the item and hands it back to you as Kate pays, and you thank him profusely for putting the toy on hold. That explains why such a sweet thing hadn't been sold earlier at least, and when you leave the shop, Squishmallow in your arms and a smile on your face, Kate pulls you in for a kiss. It's short and sweet, but it warms you up all the same.
"Thank you." You whisper when you've pulled back from her lips, red swarming your cheeks again. "You're the best girlfriend ever."
Kate lets out a laugh, pulling you a little closer, the Squishmallow between you. "That's all you babe, but I've got to ask the question," The tone in her voice has become serious, and the expression on her face has fallen to become the same, and just as you begin to stress, she speaks again. "What are you going to name it?" She looks down at the plush between your bodies and you kiss her again, thinking of possible answers in your head as you do so. You'll get coffee later and sit and talk about all the things you could call your new prize, and eventually, you'll choose one together. Kate will smile at every option you put forward, her grin widening every time you'll squeeze the toy before taking a sip of your drink. It's been a great morning, and the day can only get better from here.

katie's first day
pairing : kate bishop x reader
🎃 - back to school / university
👻 - " careful, there might be vampires, or werewolves! " " yeah, or ghosts "
𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞
Tumblr media
by some form of miracle, kate had been accepted into college after the incident with the bell tower at her previous place of study.
after a glowing reference from a national hero such as clint barton her old school was practically begging her to come back and study there, but she had found a school with an excellent sports programme for her to continue with her archery,
you seemed more excited than her.
when the morning of her first day back arrived you were out of bed before she was even awake.
you wanted to make sure today was easy for her.
you knew how hard it was to start a new school half way through your academic career and it wasn't very fun.
by the time you had fed lucky and made coffee for both yourself and kate, you could hear footsteps coming from your shared bedroom.
a few moments later you felt a pair of arms around your waist where you were stood against the counter.
" morning, sweetheart...you excited for your first day ?" you questioned, picking up her coffee and turning around in her arms, offering the warm mug out to her.
" more nervous, the bell tower thing wasnt exactly a secret...i don't really want people knowing me for that..." she explained, lifting the mug to her lips to take a sip of the coffee.
you picked up your own mug, sitting yourself up on the counter top where kate quickly stepped between your legs.
" then show them that you're more than that. show them that you're the girl who can shoot a bullseye with a blindfold from 50 meters away. give them something to know you for, other than your gorgeous face and the bell tower" you explained, your hand sliding up to rest on her waist underneath her sweater.
she had no rebuttal to that.
instead she left a soft peck on your lips.
" c'mon, if you don't get ready soon you're going to be late. "
🌘🌕 🌒
the ride from your shared apartment was short, but it was one filled with soft touches and quiet praises.
when you eventually pulled up outside her school building you turned your body towards hers.
" you all good ?" you questioned, a soft smile on your lips.
" i'm all good. " she replied simply.
" okay, then good luck, baby. call me later, oh! and be careful, there might be vampires, or werewolves " you joked, hoping to ease the nerves you could see radiating through her body.
it seemed to work when she let out a soft laugh.
" yeah, or ghosts " she joked and it made you smile. she was relaxing at least a little bit.
she leaned in to press her lips onto yours in a loving kiss.
"love you, baby. you got this " you said as she undid her seatbelt and climbed out of the car, heading into the main building.

The air was thick with insincerity, as business partners and rivals mingled together, forming and breaking deals. Black and white attire painted the room, low lights bouncing off the expensive jewelry adorning the womens’ necks, marking who was worth the fight and who wasn’t– or rather, who had the money.
This was not what you would consider a ‘party’, as your mother described it, dragging you along. For one, the tight black dress was too tight, suffocating your curves. The music also sucked, a string quartet playing a whimsical piece in the corner. Classical music is usually not an indicator of a party. But the food was decent. As you looked at the spread, you decided you’d stay at least for that.
There really was no point in you being here, aside from your mom showing you off as her proudly esteemed heir of the company. No one bothered to come up and talk to you, leaving you to hide by the food table and snack all night. Honestly, it was much preferred than whatever was going on in the main hall.
You may be the heir, but when it comes to the business itself, you have no idea what it all entails to run it– let alone make partnerships here.
All in due time, your mother had said, to which you just rolled your eyes. Running the company one day wasn’t what you wanted to do, but no one ever asked you that. Not in a sincere way at least. So you faked a smile, saying that one day you’d like to follow in your brilliant mothers footsteps. Hey, if you were going to lie, you might as well earn some brownie points from it.
After taking a swig of champaign, and loading your little plate with sweets, you headed back to the main hall. The party was even more lively now, as business owners and partners continued to stroll in the door. You watched, intrigued by those worthy enough of an invite to the event hosted tonight. Intrigued by one individual in particular.
You knew her, her long wavy hair a dead giveaway. She wore a sleek black suit, melting into the color of her hair, bringing out the blueish purple of her eyes. She was stunning, in every possible way, intimidating - yes, but stunning all the same.
Her name was Kate Bishop, and she was the daughter of Eleanor- your moms personal rival in the business world. They had hated each other for a while, always going after the others’ clients, or using the two of you to gain insight on the other’s company. Through the spying though, you and Kate had come to a realization. You actually liked each other… like, enough to be friends. Your parents disapproved, but after promising each other not to sabotage, a friendship blossomed between the two of you.
You’d be in denial if you didn’t say it wasn’t something more than that though, as your heart pounded when she finally looked your way. A bright smile grazed her features, making your chest even tighter, a heat growing in the pit of your stomach.
Oh the things she did to you.
“Hey! Tell me, is this party as lame as all the others,” Kate said, a giggle following close behind.
“Oh very,” you responded. She eyed the tiny plate in your hands now half full of sweets. You held it out, offering her whatever she wanted. She settled for a mini brownie, popping it into her mouth. You swallowed, turning to look at literally anything else in the room.
“So, any new prospects?” Kate asked, nodding slightly towards a group of guys your age huddled in the corner. She had no idea of the feelings you harbored for her.
“Oh, no. I think I’m just going to focus on my studies,” you answered, sipping the champagne. Kate snorted, shaking her head.
“You can do that and have fun, you know.”
“I do have fun… with you!” You countered, nudging her arm.
“This is true, I am a whole party myself. But you know what I mean.” She nodded towards the group again, and you noted that this time they were all staring back, whispering between themselves.
“I… I don’t know if that’s really my style,” you said sheepishly. She looked at you curiously, before her eyes grew wide.
“Oh my god, I’m so stupid! I didn’t even think to consider who you were into,” Kate fumbled with her words. Sexuality hadn’t been something either of you talked about. You knew Kate was into girls, but she had never asked about yours.
“No, it's okay,” you said, offering her a gentle smile. It never really bothered you, as it was something you were still figuring out yourself.
“Alright, well in that case-”
“Kate!” Her mom interrupted, waving her over. Kate groaned and motioned that she’d be right back.
You let out a breath you hadn’t realized you had been holding that entire time. Kate had joined her mom in conversation with some guy and his daughter, presumably striking up a business deal. You smiled as you watched Kate try to act interested. She turned to look back at you, sending a wink your way that made you blush.
You looked down to notice your plate was empty now. Swallowing the last of your campaign, you went to the bus bucket to drop them off.
“y/n!” You heard your mother say, before you saw her. She was stunning, even at her age. All the men- and women for that matter- knew it too. You put on the best fake smile you could muster as her and a potential business partner strutted up to you.
“Hi mother,” you said delicately, looping your arm in hers. The two of you were close, but the trick was to appear as if the two of you were lifelong friends. It gave men the sense of a girlhood bond- strong to the core, full of secrets and opportunity.
“This is Mark, the guy I was talking to you about,” her eyes twinkled as she spoke. Mark was a handsome man, rigid and formal with a hint of adventure behind this business facade. You didn’t miss the way your mom looked at him– or the way he looked at her. You smiled.
“Hello Mark, I’m y/n, as you may have guessed.” A bright laughter that you hadn’t heard in years came from your mom. Clearly this man was someone to impress, and you were all for helping your mom secure happiness.
“As I presumed, it’s nice to meet you. Now, I hear…” Mark trailed off, but you had stopped paying attention.
Just past him you saw Kate walking hand in hand with the girl from before. They were headed towards one of the back exits, looking around anxiously as they did so. Your smile faded slightly as they disappeared. In every way your mind was telling you to stay put, your feet were itching to move.
“I’m sorry, could you please excuse me for one second?” You asked, hiking up the hem of your dress a bit so you could follow Kate and this mysterious girl. Your mom tried to protest, but her pleas fell on deaf ears as you took off.
Mark was more than understanding, writing it off as a bored young adult looking for her escape.
The door Kate left led to a hallway, illuminated by dim yellow lights. Multiple hallways branched off the sides leading to various conference and hotel rooms. A pit grew in your stomach as you continued to wander through the halls. You weren’t entirely sure what came over you, practically running through the halls to see what Kate and this mysterious girl were up to.
But like they say… curiosity killed the cat.
You turned down a particular hallway that led into an open room- another conference room behind the open doors.
Kate and this mysterious girl were leaned in close, Kate pressed up against the table. She laughed lightly as the girl leaned in, placing a delicate kiss on Kate’s lips.  Your stomach dropped at the sight. A weird mix of emotions flooded through you; jealousy, confusion, hurt- although you weren’t entirely sure you had that right to feel hurt. The two of you had never discussed feelings between the two of you- especially since she had just figured out you even had feelings for girls. But nonetheless, hurt ravaged your heart, breaking it more the longer you stood there.
Kate had reached her hand up towards the mysterious girl, and that was when you figured you had enough. A slight sob escaped your lips as you turned to run back down the hall.
Kate pushed the mysterious girl away, looking at her with rage in her eyes. Out of the corner of her eye, the light caught the shimmers in your dress and she knew you had seen what just happened.
“Lily, what the actual fuck?” Kate asked, turning her attention back to the girl before her.
“What? I thought we were having fun?” Lily said, twirling a strand of hair around her finger. Kate should have known she was trouble the second Lily led her away from the party. She had said she needed some air, and had asked Kate to join her. She was so stupid for believing her.
“No, Lily, no. I gotta go.” Kate pushed past Lily, running down the hallway after you. There was no telling where you went, with so many endless doors off the halls and branching hallways.
“Damn it,” Kate muttered under her breath after throwing open a few doors with nothing behind them.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and pulled up your contact. She pressed the ‘call’ button with such vigor, she was surprised she didn’t break her phone screen. The phone rang three times before you picked up.
“Hello?” You sounded like you had been crying. Kate kicked herself, running her hand over her face.
“y/n, where are you?”
“I’m… uh, why is everything okay?” You tried your best to sound normal, like you hadn’t just broken down in an abandoned conference room. It was already hard enough having to wrestle with knowing you had feelings for your best friend. It was almost even harder to unexpectedly witness her kissing someone else. At least if she liked someone she would tell you, you’d have that warning to mentally prepare yourself.
“Tell me where you are. Now.” Kate uttered the last word so firmly, you had no choice but to tell her where you were. She hung up, and took off down one of the side halls at the end of the main hallway.
The conference doors flew open. Kate stood in the doorway, breathing heavily as she caught her breath from running. You were leaning against the table, your dress pooling around you. Mascara streaks ran down your cheeks, the sight breaking Kate’s heart instantly.
“y/n, what’s wrong?” Kate's voice was soft, her movements slow and delicate as she made her way to you.
“It's nothing,” you lied, putting on your best fake smile. She looked at you with a look that said “I’m not stupid”. You rolled your eyes.
“Is it because of Lily?”
“Who’s that?” You asked.
“The girl you saw me with just now.”
“Oh, her. No, I mean, I just didn’t know you were seeing anyone is all.” Your words were jumbled, coming out fast. Kate snickered. She stood before you now, inches from your face. Her fingers reached out and delicately ran along your jaw and under your chin. She tilted your chin up to look at her.
“I’m not seeing anyone. Lily said she needed some air, and asked if I could come with her. She kissed me, and I pushed her off. You just ran away before you saw that,” she whispered. Her eyes focused on yours, every emotion displayed in them. She was sad, sad you didn’t see that part, angry at Lily for scheming, and most of all guilty.
Guilty for not seeing what was now undeniably in front of the two of you.
“Oh,” was all you whispered back, too scared to say anything else. It was obvious now, your feelings for Kate now the elephant in the room. Her eyes softened as she continued to look at you.
“How long?”
“What?”
“How long have you had feelings for me?” She was curious how long she had been blind.
“For a while now, I think since I first met you, but we were only kids, so I can’t be sure.” You confessed, tearing your eyes away from her gaze. Silence filled the void between the two of you for a few minutes.
“Look at me,” she whispered. Your lips quivered as you brought your gaze back to hers. The way she was looking at you made you want to melt. Her gaze was soft, yet fiery, like an untamed blaze starting to grow.
She leaned in, the smell of her perfume filling your senses. It was almost overwhelming. The scent of her, the way her hand came up to cup your cheek, the way her body felt pressed against you.
Her lips found yours, kissing you delicately as if you’d break under the pressure. Her lips were soft, and that alone made you nearly come undone before her, a soft moan nearly escaping your lips.
Your fingers found her hair, nestling themselves against her scalp, as the ferocity of which she kissed you increased. The passion burned, fiery and loud between the two of you, as you fumbled to touch each other in every way possible.
You pulled away slightly, guiding her to your neck. Her teeth nipped at your skin slightly, a moan escaping you. She wasn’t there long however, before her lips missed the taste of yours.
It was during this second interaction, the second round of a fiery passionate match of kisses, that the two of you were interrupted.
The doors slammed open, a group of businessmen waiting to finalize the papers on a business decision standing in the doorway. That wasn’t the worst part, however. No, no. The worst part was that your moms stood at the forefront of the group, mouths gaping at the sight of their daughters engaging in this kind of activity.
“Oh shit,” was all Kate said, as she took a step back.

"Good morning Y/N/N, would you like some pancakes?" Kate, Yelena's roommate, greeted you with a bright smile and the offer of breakfast as soon as you entered the kitchen.
There it was again... That sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, almost always followed up by your heart fluttering... It always happened when Kate was just as much as nearby, and when she talked to you it was made worse. Your body treated her like she was an enemy, but all your training told you the girl was harmless, or, harmless to the likes of you.
————————————
"I promise that I made them and not Yelena...," you smiled in amusement but said nothing., "Ha ha Kate Bishop, you are just so funny..." Yelena bites back, then she grabs your attention with a shake of your shoulder., "Would you like to go with me to the store? Apparently the archer here thinks 'Annie's' is the same as Kraft, if I wanted to eat healthy I'd have a salad, not a tainted bowl of my beloved mac and cheese.," you nodded, then returned to your room to get changed, you had no intention of leaving today, but the idea of being alone with Kate made you feel clammy.
Kate sighed defeatedly as you left the room., "Why won't she even look at me?," Yelena sent her an uncharacteristically soft smile., "Give her time Kate, this is all new to her, and it'll take time for her to be comfortable with you.," Kate deadpanned., "It's been six months Lena, and it just makes no sense because we were fine the first few months. I just miss her is all."
Yelena nods in understanding, she has a feeling for what's going on with you, but she doesn't want to even mutter a word to the archer until she works with you first. It's clear as day to her that Kate's completely fallen for you, and if she is as good a spy as she knows herself to be she knows you're in the exact same boat, but with the extra baggage that growing up in the red room brings along you were likely lost.
"Y/N, can you grab a tomato? Kate wanted an apple, but I think she needs to learn a lesson.," Yelena asked you while stood in front of the dessert table, and you reluctantly did as she asked, but you also grabbed the apple too. Yelena smirked to herself when she saw you try to hide the apple on the cart when you thought she was distracted., "Thank you Y/N/N, now, after we finish up here we're meeting Tasha and Maria for lunch okay?," you nodded as per usual, but this time with a soft smile, and Yelena found herself slightly offended.
She finds and saves you, but Natasha is still somehow your favorite...
"Lena, can I ask you something?," the assassin nearly swerved when you used your voice for the first time that morning, you were always a woman of little words, and she's not sure if that's genuinely who you were, or if it's still a byproduct of being free for the first time ever., "Of course, ask away...," you swallow down your fear, and just ask., "What's love like?"
"Oh look, we're here!," she shrieks, feeling bad as she watches your shoulders deflate, but this is exactly why she brought you to her sister., "It's good too, because you can ask that to the experts.," she jests, and points to the lovebirds who were engaged in a soft embrace as they awaited your arrival, and you found yourself settling into this entirely too confusing state of longing for something so incredibly foreign.
When you exited the car you saw Natasha pull back from Maria, and she yanked a thrashing Yelena into a tight hug, then you smiled when she turned to you with her arms wide open, and left you the choice of entering the embrace. For her you walked right into it, relishing in the safety that always came from the elder widow., "Tasha and I ordered waters for the table.," Maria subtly greeted, and you reluctantly pulled back to smile over at her, then in a shocking turn of events you reached out to her for a hug, and she smiled widely over your shoulder at her wife giving her a thumbs up.
Yeah, Yelena know she chose the right people...
Natasha watched you curiously when you looked over the menu at the Korean BBQ., "What do you want for the first round honey?," you looked to her puzzled., "You guys can choose, it's okay.," Yelena slapped your back., "No cyka, pick one thing from each menu, then we'll each pick something, it's how it works.," Natasha narrowed her eyes at her sister, then with a gentle touch she lowered your menu., "What Yelena was trying to say was, it's okay for you to make the decision for the table, no one's picky, and we'll all get a chance to order."
Maria then further explained the concept of the restaurant to you, and only after a thorough description did you feel comfortable ordering., "Uh, the bulgogi, garlic chicken, potstickers, and the cheese corn all look kinda good.," Yelena didn't show it outright, but she was beyond proud of you for taking the initiative to order your selection when the waitress came.
The longer you all sat their munching away the more the women got to see you visibly relaxing; you went from staring at your empty glass to politely requesting more water, you laughed openly over smiling when the sisters continued to throw jabs at one another, and when Maria finally asked you about what it's been like to be out now, you genuinely spoke up about it and Natasha was quick to focus on you.
"Um. Well, It's just been super strange is all. It's like I've seen all of this stuff through movies my whole life. To feel all these new things, and most for the very first time, it just all feels so wrong, but also right in a way, and I don't know what any of it means, and I freeze up whenever it becomes too much, and that even feels wrong. It's almost like I'm an alien.," you quickly paused as the waitress settled a new grill down for the table, awkwardly smiling up at her as you'd known not what else to do after she just saw your clearly panicked state.
Natasha's hands were quick to link with yours., "Oh honey, I know a bit about how you feel, when I got out of the red room I hadn't a clue how to exist either, if not for Clint Barton I'd still likely be a distant shell of a person too.," her gentle touch and smile helped you calm., "It's okay to be confused, life is already hard enough, adding on a lifetime worth of trauma would make anyone wary. This is the first time you've been made to make your own decisions, it's almost harder than it was being controlled. There's so much more pressure, you don't even know what could mess it all up—that's scary."
"Yeah, most people, like Kate Bishop don't understand the importance of decisions.," Yelena cuts her sister off, and Natasha smirks when she sees the steady rolling of your eyes, the personality you'd been hiding shining through makes her heart hopeful for you.
"However, once you stop fighting the freedom, and you start making even the simplest of choices, like you did tonight, it gets easier." Natasha finishes her thoughts, then she leans back, slipping her hands from yours to take a drink, then you watch as one instinctively links with her wife's on the table while the other goes to pick at her plate., "How did you get here?," Maria squeezes her wife's hand, then she clears her throat, and you shift to stare at her.
"This." Maria gestures playfully between their bodies., "Was not easy, this one here trusted me about as far as she could throw me.," you chuckled along with the woman, then you watched the couple share a sweet moment of silent admiration., "Natasha joined shield, and as Yelena would say, I was incredibly whipped. She was just special, her outright stoicism was what actually made me so persistent to get to know her, and it's what kept her so resistant."
"Cautious.," Natasha politely disagrees with her wife's choice of words., "Yes, forgive me, cautious, either way she wouldn't even spare me more than the necessary moments of interaction. Even a polite 'How are you,' received a deadpan and monotonous 'good.' After a long while I began to realize that it might not be me specifically, as she was a lot softer with Barton, and corresponding agents but more so it was my title that left her so cautious of me."
"So, I began to experiment, and though Fury was against my methods I'd started running to work in my street clothes, and I would time my arrival perfectly to meet her at the coffee cart.,"  You catch the remembrance in the redheads eyes., "Yes, my perfect little stalker.," Natasha then dreamily teases, and you can just feel the love radiating off of the delightful couple., "Watch it...," she warns, "Anyways, I would catch her eyes on me more when I was out of my uniform, on the third day she even smiled at me, and I just knew I was onto something."
"This is disgusting, I'm going to get a beer, do you want one?," Yelena whispers into your ear, but you shake your head and shove her away., "By the end of the week I knew I was right, my authority over her was the problem, so I had her transferred from being directly beneath me, then come Monday I beat her to the cart, so when she got there I handed her the cup, and she just stared at me like it was a test.,"
"What exactly was I meant to do?," Natasha asks with her hands thrown about, "Trust me!," Natasha scoffs, "In your dreams.," Maria pouts, then grumbles., "You mean my reality right?!" Their silly bickering had you rerouting your gaze to the meat sizzling on the grill, and after a few moments Natasha settled back into her seat with a huff., "After she tentatively took the glass from my hands I was straightforward, I'd told her she no longer worked for me, and that I'd really like to go out with her. She narrowed her eyes at me, took a long swig of the drink, then handed it back to me with a stupid smirk."
Natasha smirks as her wife sits beside her with a massive pout at the memory., "I said: 'get my coffee order right next time, then I'll consider letting.' Before I promptly walked away, and left her there rather confused.," Maria sighs., "Turns out I had accidentally handed her my cup, and I only even realized as the bitter sip assaulted my tastebuds."
Their story was cute, and it helped some, but it didn't do much for your understanding of love. Natasha caught on immediately as a deep confusion still swirled beneath your eyes., "Listen Y/N/N, love is a constant battle, nothing good is ever easy to come by, and this took a long time, because even with her being able to court me, it still took years for me to trust that she was a permanent figure, and learn to love her in a way that was real, and wasn't heavily influenced by rom com movies."
"Who is it then?," You freeze up when Maria calls you out, and Natasha is quick to reroute., "How about you tell us what you're feeling. Talking it out might help you to understand."
"I'm not really sure... I feel sick when she's around, almost like I can't breathe if she's too close to me.," The lovers share a knowing look., "My stomach gets all twisted, and my tongue follows, I can't even speak to her anymore. Which is weird cause we used to talk a lot, but then she started to cuddle up to me, her hand would always be on my arm when we spoke, and slowly I felt this weird pit in my stomach."
"Like she was a threat?," you violently nod along to Natasha's question while gulping your water down, sparing Lena a glance when she sits back down., "Yes! Just like that, but she's not, at least not to me, she's like a puppy.," Yelena snorts, nearly spraying the table with her beer, and you freeze up, curious if you'd said something wrong, and Natasha now wishes she'd had this whole conversation with you all alone.
"Well, congratulations Y/N, you're in love.," you grimace at the reality of the situation., "Really? Why is it so painful? Seems odd.," Yelena settles a hand to your shoulder, staring deeply into your eyes., "Because everything is pain! Love, Life, Loss—the three L's of pain."
"You're drunk...," Natasha concludes, then snatches her beer from her hands to finish off what she now needs to continue sitting here., "Love is not painless Y/N/N, and falling is scary, but I promise with the right person by your side you'll find it is worth it all, and if she truly is a puppy like you say then you've got the best chance possible, those types love hard."
"Thank you Tasha, and Maria...," the couple smile warmly at you, then you notice the way the redheads lips upturn., "Of course honey, now, I just need you to make one more decision for the table before you go home to get your girl, yeah?," You nod and quirk a brow., "Who pays for lunch? Maria or Yelena?"
"Get out of my car! I'm still so mad at you...," you flinched at her tone, and she quickly softens her face., "Sorry Lena, they were just so nice, and they helped, plus you made so much money on your last hit.," Yelena shushed you., "Fine, all is forgiven, I'll be back in a week, call Natasha if you need anything, but also maybe just ask Kate, because that puppy is down bad." Your eyes widen at her blatant call out, and you are right back to nodding., "Good luck Y/N."
When you finally convinced yourself to enter the apartment you were quick to smile at the sight of the up and coming Avenger dancing. With a pair of big headphones on she was jumping around the living room in a cat onesie, and dusting the entirety of the furniture. Kate however shrieked when she turned around to find you were actively watching her cleaning, "Oh my gosh, no, I-I thought I was alone.,"
As embarrassed as she was Kate couldn't help but to smile widely as you broke out into a fit of bellyaching laughter, literally your hand was clutching at your abdomen., "Stop it...," she whined out dramatically, and that somehow only made it all funnier to you., "It's not that funny...," she huffs, and it's truly adorable when she pouts at you with her arms crossed. It's honestly hard to take her seriously with the large, fluffy cat ears, and the dangling tail.
"Sorry, it's not funny..." You eventually choke out, your face returning to a state of stoicism, but as soon as her eyes meet yours you both break out laughing again, and she throws the duster at you., "Fine… It’s a little bit funny.,” You nod with a shy smile, too consumed with the need to calm your breathing down to even mutter a response, and after everything settles the awkward energy slowly seeps back in.
“Here’s your apple.,” Kate softly smiles at you, because it’s just a win that you’re actually talking to her, and your belly swarms with what you now know to call ‘butterflies,’ at the sight., “Thank you Y/N/N.” You nod again your throat now beyond dry, and Kate lightly frowns., “Would you like to watch a move with me?” She shouts from the kitchen, catching you just before you could make your escape down the hall, and you decide in the moment that there’s no harm in starting off your with a movie, so you quietly make the trip over to the couch.
Kate silently cheered when she peered around the corner to see you sat in wait for her, and she made quick moves to settle beside you with a bowl of popcorn, she pulled up a horror film, then threw a blanket over the both of your legs. You tensed, but then the screams of the first protagonists victim had worked to sooth you. Kate’s head fell to your shoulder about halfway through the movie, and you felt that familiar pit forming in your belly, and when her hand casually laid over your thigh under the blanket you nearly jumped off the couch. The brunette was none the wiser to your fast beating heart, and you were at least thankful for that.
Kate was beaming internally, it’d been so long since you last let her this close, she didn’t know exactly who to thank, but she knew Yelena did something, and would be receiving a hug for it. Once the movie ended you’d both been stuck in your heads, so when the ad for the next film popped up you were jumping up off the couch., “I’m tired.,” Kate sat her fallen body back up, then looked up to you with sorrowful eyes., “Yeah… Goodnight Y/N.,” and your heart was effectively breaking when she brushed passed.
Tired was an understatement, because as soon as your head hit the pillow you were snoring. The moment of peace was brief though, as not even two hours later were you shooting up off the mattress, hands clutching at your chest as you did your best to regain your composure. The nightmares never got easier, your tears a shining example of just how easily the past still gets to you; the flashes of Dreykov, and all he’d made you do flood your mind as you stumbled down the hallway in route to get some water.
Kate was listening to a soft string of music when you entered the kitchen, a bowl sat in her hands with an array of ingredients before her. She’d been expecting you, respectfully she’d been keeping her distance, but she knew about your nightly routine—you were just on time. Every night between midnight and one in the morning she’d hear you gasp through your shared wall, then she would hear the sink running, and whenever you’d cry yourself to sleep she’d cry too, and so tonight she decided enough was enough, she’d be comforting you.
“I-I’m sorry… I’ll go.,” her stoic resolve melted as soon as she heard you begin stuttering, the pained expression you wore truly hurt her., “Nonsense, please sit… You’re just on time actually, the cookies will be done any minute, and I need your opinion…,” and as if she was using a hypnotizing method of convincing you to stay you sat down, and gratefully took the glass of water she slid your way., “Thanks.”
Kate hummed, not looking to overwhelm you with much talking just yet, and to her total shock it was you who spoke first., “Kate, why are you making cookies at midnight?,” your genuine confusion made her snort., “This is a normal pastime of the distraught American woman.,” your grimace only made her smirk., “This seems so unprogressive, I don’t approve.”
Kate laughed as she went to remove her first batch from the oven, then after the responsible waiting of only two minutes she plated one up for you. Sweet brown eyes bore into yours, the anticipation palpable, so you took the entire cookie into your mouth, you did your best to hide your feelings as you struggled to chew it. It was incredibly dry, but also severely moist in the center, and so the amount of water you’d guzzled down had the woman before you dropping her head to the counter.
“I stand by my earlier words. I don’t approve.,” Kate chuckled defeatedly., “I’m sorry, I just wanted to make you feel better.,” the muttered confession only made your entire body freeze., “It’s just, I don’t know why, but I feel like it’s my job to protect you, even from nightmares.,” her words were almost too much for you, the tenderness she wanted to offer you felt so undeserved after the reminder of your past., “Kate…,” she shook her head, “No!,” her hands settled on your damp cheeks, and when you didn’t flinch away a pang of hope reached her desperate heart., “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.,” you resolved for telling the truth, her forehead now leaned up against yours, you watched her tears fall into your lap., “Then why don’t you talk to me anymore?,” her voice crack shattered your heart, and so you took in a shaky breath, “I-I’m scared Kate.,” She immediately understood, the love she felt for you was beyond scary for her, so she could only now imagine how hard it must be for you.
With a surge of confidence she decided to tackle both of your fears, her hands slipped from your cheeks until they gripped the collar of your shirt, and just as soon as she pulled back she was pulling you in for a bruising kiss. Though you were caught completely off guard you certainly wasted no time in deepening the kiss while shoving her body against the wall by her hips, earning a strangled gasp from her.
Kate felt like she was going to quite literally combust, the way you just handled her left her in a dizzied state, and the possessive hold you had on her while your tongue explored her mouth made her feel complete, as if nothing before she knew the taste of you was ever right, and like her basis of further survival will be totally dependent on your proximity.
When you pulled away to catch your breath she was near to tears, a whimper leaving her lips as the fear settled deep within her that you just got caught up in the moment, but that once you regain your wits you’ll leave her without a word., “Shit… What the hell was I scared for?” Her previously shut eyes opened to find you smiling at her with a new hope in your gaze., “I’m sorry Kate, I didn’t mean to hurt you, and I promise I’m done running away from you.”
“Would you like to sleep with me?,” Kate asked innocently, but the meaning was lost on you., “Oh gosh, no, not like that… It’s not that I don’t want to, because God, do I want to… I just, I don’t want to rush anything with you Y/N/N. You mean too much to me, I-I just wanted to cuddle, I can protect you from the monsters.”
Her ramblings, though rather adorable, were soon cut off by your gentle lips pressing to hers, she sighed at the heavenly feeling, and you chuckled when she tried to chase yours., “Lead the way Bishop.,” and that she did, with your hand perfectly slotted in hers, she drug your buzzing form off to her room.
She dramatically fluffed the pillows., “Welcome to my humble abode, please get comfortable.,” You giggled at her silly little display, then took the right side of her bed while she slipped off into her ensuite to get herself ready for bed. When she returned she saw you nearly asleep, the sight alone had her body warming, and heart fluttering at the prospect you being hers., “Goodnight Y/N/N…,” your arms wrapped around her tightly, and as she nuzzled into you a bit of your consciousness returned., “Kate, are you in the cat onesie again?,” she went to deny it but your hand tugging on the tail left her with no wiggle room., “Yes…,” she groaned when your tired laughter filled her room.
“Aww, don’t be embarrassed my little Katey Kat!,” you sleepily mused., “You know, I think I might’ve preferred it when you didn’t speak…”
