I appreciate that we got to see some of the superhero shenanigans through the eyes of Kamala and the khans... none of this shit is normal and we got to see real reactions to that
so i'm sure countless other people have said this before, but i'll say it again.
as a desi, muslim girl who grew up being a huge marvel fan, ms marvel is incredibly important to me.
i remember reading the comics around 2020 and 2021, and when the news that it was becoming a show came out, i vividly remember screaming and jumping up and down BECAUSE HOLY SHIT
yeah, the comics are pretty different compared to the show and they got the whole "djinn" concept completely wrong, but yknow
the representation means everything to me.
i remember when i was like, 7, i was watching Iron Man with my mom. The terrorists in the movie speak fluent urdu, just like me.
So obviously, little me was pretty confused. I remember asking, "Mama, why do the bad guys talk like us?" and she simply avoided the question.
It was years after when I understood islamophobia.
now, i'm sitting in my living room and the superhero on tv isn't a skinny blonde blue-eyed white girl.
she's like me.
she says salam, she watches bollywood movies, and she wears a shalwar kameez. her mom doesn't like the idea of her going to parties. she goes to the mosque to pray. she makes wudhu in those crusty mosque bathrooms with taps that barely work.
she believed that it wasn't the brown girls of jersey city that saved the world.
just like countless other brown girls all across the world.
yes, the show may have some... flaws - but the representation was, for once, done somewhat correctly. i'm happy beyond words, and thrilled for younger generations of muslim and desi kids to grow up with a superhero who's like them.
thank you gwendolyn wilson, and everyone who worked on the comics; writers, artists, publishers, everyone. you made a dream reality, and now you have a show.
on behalf of young muslim brown girls everywhere, thank you.
Shaktism (doctrine of energy, power, the eternal goddess), is one of several major Hindu denominations, wherein the metaphysical reality is considered metaphorically a woman and Maha Devi Shakti is regarded as the supreme godhead. It includes many goddesses, all considered aspects of the same supreme goddess. Shaktism has different sub-traditions, ranging from those focused on most worshipped Durga, gracious Parvati to that of fierce Kali. According to a 2010 estimate by Johnson and Grim, Shaktism is the third largest Hindu sect, constituting about 30 million or 3.2% of Hindus.
Some Forms of Maha Devi Shakti
Durga - Sits upon a tiger during Navaratri
Parvati - She is kind and tender and represents motherhood
Kali - Goddess of Time, Change, Creation, Power, Destruction and Death
Many Hindus worship Shakti as the divine mother who calls for absolute surrender. Yogis regard Shakti as the power, lying dormant within the body as a coiled serpent (kundalini), that must be aroused and realized to reach spiritual liberation. Shaktism is an essential part of Hindu Tantra, a system of practices involving the worship of the goddess and designed to empower and release both mind and body.
In popular worship, the goddess Shakti is known by many names; Hindus regard all female deities as her different manifestations and may refer to her simply as Devi (Goddess).

Ammavaru - according to Hindu belief, she is an ancient goddess who laid the egg that hatched Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. "Amma" means mother. She is thought to have existed before the beginning of time.
As Tripura Sundari, she is the complete supreme form. Here, she's enthroned with her left foot upon the Sri Chakra, holding her traditional symbols, the sugarcane bow, flower arrows, noose and goad.

The Mahavidya
The Mahavidya are a group of ten Hindu Tantric goddesses. The 10 Mahavidyas are: Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshvari, Bhairavi , Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. Nevertheless, the formation of this group encompass divergent and varied religious traditions that include yogini worship, Saivism, Vaishnavism, and Vajrayana Buddhism.

Kamala sucked her way to the top, and her non-existent rationale and total lack of common sense sucks for us all.
**No, it’s not because she’s a woman (or claims to be), or an Indian woman (she’s Jamaican and Indian). She’s a slightly smarter woman than AOC, which is a low bar, and was made famous and promoted for who she fucked. She lacks common sense and has zero political prowess.
With even more to come...Republicans are ethically and morally reprehensible for continuing to support Trump and his crime spree. Voters are misled and deceived by FoxFakeNews and the GOP propaganda that claims Trump is a victim when he’s not.
Devi Vishwakumar's journey has been a wacky one with statistically there being more downs than ups for her, but I believe I don't regret being there for all of it.
Yes there were a shockingly stupid number of moments when I wanted to drown in a pail or choke myself or wished to be put into a medically-induced coma so I wouldn't have to deal with the sheer second-hand embarrassment that came from seeing her high school years play out before me; but these moments are also the ones that have kept me entertained and always anticipating for what will happen next season.
It's bittersweet to see the chaos of Devi's life, and that of her friends and family and foes, come to an end. It's also hopeful. I mean, if Devi can manage to figure her shit out, so can I.
