Anyone else think it's funny that Chai is just perpetually That Guy wherever he goes? Good luck trying to enjoy the majesty of nature, this dipshit and his musical robot powers is over here making the tide come in on beat. And you can't even say anything bc what's he gonna do? Press pause?

This passage exists and some people still came away from the book believing Katniss might've chosen Gale if Prim hadn't died and only settles for Peeta in the end

So something I’ve been thinking about with Hi-Fi Rush is that clearly there’s disabled characters and none of it is ever made into a Big Deal.
Yeah, Chai got a prosthetic arm. It’s wicked cool
Yeah, Peppermint lost a leg. There’s some potential lore there
Yeah, almost everyone else has Vandelay parts but we never even learn why or if they’re just meant as enhancements. For example, does Zanzo have the neural implants just to get his ideas out of his head faster or because he needs that accommodation? It’s never addressed because it doesn’t really matter
The game never makes disability or accommodation feel weird, out of place, or negative. It just…is
HOWEVER, Chai is blamed for being “defective.” Throughout the game he is reduced to being known as “the defect” that needs to be wiped out (or experimented on/with in Zanzo’s case).
None of this is Chai’s fault. It’s Kale who threw the music player into the Armstrong machine and yet Chai is blamed for it. At one point Rekka even says that HE ruined her perfect no defect record as if his existence was the mistake and it’s his fault.
Anyway, as a disabled person, I think this was a wonderful way to bring in ableism and what being disabled can look like in the world into the story while keeping the upbeat, fun vibe of the game.
I think every disabled person has felt blamed for simply existing (either people think you aren’t doing enough to “fix” yourself or you must have done something wrong to cause your disability or you’re even just making it up/being lazy/etc). It was so nice to see that reflected in the game while still seeing all of these disabled characters kick absolute ass in fights and also just exist in the world.

Someone liked my Roxanne playing a part in HF2 post and it made me realize my ideal HF2 would be giving Roxanne a rival.
HEAR ME OUT: We get a rival robotics company and while dealing with them, Roxanne is made to see the harm she caused her family by being so deeply devoted to her work. It still leaves a weird taste that Kale just blows up and everyone is like "WELL ANYWAY, NEXT THING!" Like...while Kale was a shitty guy, and his death was funny as hell, it was Roxanne's separation of her home life and her work life that led to a lot of the events of HFR going down and just cause she hugged Peppermint and promised to do some catching up with her doesn't mean everything is okay.
I just love a character that has good intentions and does good but also has flaws that harm the people that mean the most to them. Like, Roxanne clearly meant well when she told Peppermint to be her own person, but the way she went about it was still misconstrued by her and caused Peppermint to run away. Kale being so bitter towards his mother because she favored Peppermint in his eyes is also like...whoa...I need that elaborated on, Tango. Then there's Macaron, who said he wanted to help the Vandelays repair their relationship. I can imagine Roxanne constantly putting any attempts to on hold because she has x and y to do and it hurting Peppermint. I could see her still putting her work first and foremost and so a rival company giving Vandelay some trouble would be a great way for her to get a wake up call. Like, the head of this rival company uses the SPECTRA fiasco to get people to go to their company instead and that also gives Chai some trouble, what with being the ambassador for Project Armstrong, but Vandelay Technologies being put through the ringer for what Kale did forces Roxanne to reflect on a lot. There's just NO WAY the SPECTRA fiasco went down and everyone was like "oh okay," just because Roxanne is head of Vandelay Technologies again. Maybe the rival company dug up some dirt about how SPECTRA is still installed in people's Armstrong tech and still a concern and they use that to get people paranoid and go to them instead. Just, ooo, I WOULD LOVE THIS SM!!!
I mean, I have THOUGHTS man like, I really like that the Vandelays are more of a focus than Chai because the subversion of "the main character should be the one that is the main focus of the story" is so neat to me. Chai getting very little lore because the team felt like it wasn't necessary to grasp what kind of character he is and giving more lore to Peppermint and her family was just...*chef's kiss* love that. So, like, I'm here for the (temporary) downfall of Vandelay Technology that gives us more room for character development for Roxanne and Peppermint. Hell, I'd love to know more about Macaron and Korsica, too. Especially Macaron, like, he needs more love and lore and him wanting to help the Vandelays repair their relationship could be a way to wiggle in more development for him, too.
