Female activist opposes ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan
A female activist in Afghanistan has spoken out openly against the Taliban’s harsh policies restricting girls’ education in the country and called for strict action against the ban, ANI News reports.
Fatima Amiri, a survivor of the attack on the Kaaj Education Centre and a strong advocate for girls’ education, strongly criticised the suspension of scholarships for Afghan girls. The activist also demanded that alternative education options should be considered rather than prohibitive policies in the country.
At an online conference on girls’ education in Afghanistan, Amiri said there must be a constant struggle against the normalisation of the ban on education. She said that opposition to girls’ education stems from an attitude of gender apartheid that affects decades, not just hundreds or millions.
Amiri studied in an elite class at the Kaaj Education Centre, which was the target of a terrorist attack in September 2022 that killed more than 60 students and seriously injured her. She is currently undergoing treatment in Turkey. Fatima and her classmates took their university entrance exams about a month after the attack, attracting public attention for their university admissions. However, the Taliban barred the girls from continuing their education.

Hi! I would like to ask for a little help/suggestions regarding writing an oc of mine who I want to be Romani (or part Romani, if that can be a thing).
I don't want to be disrespectful in any way, And I'm not really familiar with Romani culture, so that's why I wanted to reach out for some help. (writing from anon because I'm shy ;w;)
First - The design, appearance
From what I have sketched now, he's not really pale, but not dark skinned either, just like, a bit tan.
He has brown hair, but it's really light brown.
Is that acceptable or should be adjusted?
And if not adjusted, then maybe the Romani relatives should be on more of the "further" side? Like grandparents instead of parents?
Second - Culture, beliefs
The setting in which he's in is kind of specific, the universe is horror based and set in modern times.
Also, he lives in a secluded area/village.
So his daily live is heavily dependent on the horror tropes that I'm about to include, but also, if I plan to say that he's Romani, I don't want to accidentally include something that Romani people typically would be against doing/ believing.
What could be such things to look out for?
Of course he doesn't need to be heavily dependent on the traditional stuff. I just want it to make sense that he's Romani, so it doesn't just feel like I've thrown in an ethnicity in just for the sake of diversity.
(If I said something in a weird way or misunderstood something, please correct me!)
-oc anon
hello lovely oc anon! i really appreciate the fact that you reached out and i'm happy to help! <3
you can be part romani, yes! for example my mother is fully romani, but my father is, for the most part, kaaje (a word we use for non-romani people here) though he has some heritage too.
to me, the way you described your character's appearance sounds perfectly acceptable! see, the thing with romani people is that we kind of don't have just one specific look. our skin tones range from pale to brown, even within the same families (my uncle and other relatives are more brown than i am, and even my brother has a bit darker features than me. i'm just really pale lol). although romani people tend to have black or dark brown hair, i wouldn't call light brown hair an impossibility, since our genetics tend to be funny like that.
as for the culture and beliefs, there's not a single one that applies to everyone, it heavily depends on the country/area and religion. i can really only speak about our culture here in nordic countries, but if you at any point have questions about any specific things you're unsure about, don't be afraid to message me! i might be able to help :]

and i loved this one from start to finish (kaaj told me to watch it) https://mydramalist.com/62295-luo-yao-knew-what-he-meant
and i enjoyed the main leads and the 2nd lead romance in this one but the rest was shite https://mydramalist.com/58909-you-are-my-desire
but yeah i'm not really an expert in giving recs because i mostly ask kaaj and sam and they tell me what to watch.

I want to know what's the issue Rao has with Maya. What's his actual problem? He thinks so highly of himself. he doesn't know how to do his job properly he is such a bad stylist.
ek number ka snake hai yeh kutta. literally na kaam ka na kaaj ka. i have no idea how he continues to have any work in this industry when he's so abysmal at it. back in Merry days (specifically the breakup days) my friend had this theory that Rao is one of those classist kuttas and he just cannot bear anyone not from the social class moving in the same social circle. Maya is an "outsider" whereas Sherry and Bilal are the "insiders". humein toh poora shak hai he had a major part to play in the Merry breakup. i hate his slimey face god kameena kahin ka!

From The Guardian: “I am crying as I write this, but every moment we spent together is unforgettable.”
“Last week, a suicide bomber killed at least 53 people – mostly girls from the minority Hazara ethnic group – outside an education centre in Kabul. Here, relatives and friends of four young women who died remember their loved ones.”
Omulbanin Asghari, 17: wanted to study at Harvard.  “...she began watching a lot of motivational videos online and strengthened her will to succeed by reading books about revolutionaries such as Che Guevara and global leaders like Nelson Mandela. An avid reader with a thirst for knowledge, she read everything from books on economy to psychology” writes her brother.  “It breaks my heart that she could have done so much good in this world....I had no words then and no more now.”
Waheda, 18: “What did she mean to me? She was my everything. My friend who spent every hour of the day for the past 18 months sitting by my side, sharing every moment of happiness, sadness and beyond. Waheda wasn’t just my best friend, she was like a mother to me. She saved me... I was running late on my way to the Kaaj Educational Center. I reached it a few minutes after the explosion...I finally found her lifeless body. Frozen, shocked and shivering, I didn’t leave her side until her father arrived...” writes her best friend.
Bahara, 20: “ She never hurt anybody; was kind, well-mannered and always had a smile on her face...she really was one of the funniest people you could ever meet.  Bahara aspired to study computer science. She never wanted to leave Afghanistan. Her goal was to rebuild this nation and help her people. She was killed because she was a Hazara woman. An intelligent woman who was a great combination of playful, yet seriously determined.” writes her brother.
Marzia Mohammadi, 16: “In one of Marzia’s diary entries she made a list of all the things she wanted to do in life; her bucket list. Top of the list was to meet the renowned author Elif Shafak, followed by a visit to the Eiffel Tower and Paris and eating pizza in an Italian restaurant... [her] diary reveals the world of a teenager who wanted to learn and explore the world. ‘I didn’t even know she used to keep such a diary,’ [her uncle] says, the grief evident in his voice. ‘Some of her thoughts were so profound that I couldn’t believe they were expressed by such a young child.’”
