It’s been rough the past few days. Recently, Embo hasn’t visited for a while. Things would’ve been easier if Embo would just let me travel with him. During these tough times we often chat threw the holo-pads. 

“Embo,   jun rha rol, why don’t we start traveling together? That way we can have more time and I can help around.”

Of course the same response that I figured out meant no. Embo tilted his head up and squinted his eyes. I sighed softly before uncrossing my arms. It wasn’t just an answer to my idea. bounty hunting isn’t an easy job in the first place. The risks are very high at all times, hence why he doesn’t let me go with him. But it also means getting a job and succeeding is very difficult. He hasn’t been having a lot of luck recently. Multiple times Embo has lost a bounty to another hunter. It’s been happening quite a lot recently though. 

“Did someone else get the bounty?”

Embo let out a soft sigh and gave me a single nod. He took a small breath and looked back up. 

‘I’m coming back for a little while. Nothing but dead ends right now.’  He said in Kyuzo. He realized his mistake. Embo cleared his throat.

“Ril’ll...kii tar’don.”

His Ryl isn’t the best, but he’s been trying his best recently. I only grinned. It’s been months since he last visited. It may not be as long as others, but for us that’s a long time. He has always made sure to visit as often as he can, to make up time we’ve lost.

“Ril...ael..nu ’Kyuzo’ tenii ril...circoo.”

Kyuzo. That’s his first language. 

“Are you trying to say you’re going to teach me Kyuzo?” I asked.

“That’s-  Luhak waku qa ril trek...’saying’, ka.” Embo gave me another nod.

“Ril’ll kii circoo tenii kor rol chir jus.” 

Morning came around shortly after the chat. It wasn’t long when someone came up to the house.  The translation droid wobbled up.

“Master Embo has arrived.”

I couldn't stop the smile creeping upon my face.

"Arn nu, K7." I pat the droid's back. Threw the window I saw him land and walked towards the house. I knew Embo wasn't the one for touch, but I couldn't help it. I wrapped my arms around him as I felt him tense up.

"Welcome home, jun rha rol." I shook his hand.

Embo gave my hand a light squeeze.

'Ril xama li nima." He whispered. Embo gave his bags to the droids and walked to the house. It wasn't long when Marrok jumped into his lap. Calming Marrok down, Embo guided me next to him. He dropped a bag into the palm of my hand. Giving him a lingering glance, I open the bag.

"Li jiljoo..'stolen' jiljoo" He said.

The gem had a hole drilled into it. I wasn't surprised that the gem was stolen. He must've gotten it off of someone during the bounty.

"Was this going to be a necklace?"

"Ka."

I took his hat off and planted a gentle kiss on the top of his head.

"Very sweet of you Embo, I love it."

"Master Embo says that he is glad to hear that you enjoyed his gift. He now has a second gift to help you learn Kyuzo." K7 translated. I placed Embo's hat down and gave Marrok a pat on the head.

"Really now? Well what is it?" Looking back at Embo he brought out a holo-pad, revealing so many different languages across the galaxy.

"Master Embo says, it translates languages across the galaxy into a language you can understand. You'll be able to read almost any language with the device. He'll teach you how to speak in Kyuzo with the time he has."

Embo stood up. He took the crystal, pulling out a string and putting it through the hole. He placed it around my neck and tied the string into a knot. I held the crystal in my hand with a smile.

'It's time for your Kyuzo lessons, Jun Ann."

'I'm home, my dear. Are you ready for your lessons?' Embo gave his hat to Marrok.

'Yes, I am.'

Hours when by as Embo taught me the basics of Kyuzo. Kyuzo seems like a very complicated language, but manageable. Embo stood over me as I looked through the basics of Kyuzo and learn to right them.

'You're a fast learner. Impressive.' Embo spoke up.

'I just have a good teacher, jun rha rol.' Embo seemed taken away by the comment. He sat down across the table.

'Dinner will be ready soon. Now let's go through the basics again. Starting at good morning." Embo pointed at the hologram.

'Starting with good morning, ending at....fireplace.' Embo pointed at the word.

'You'll be good at Kyuzo in no time.'

"Ril ardo eyi, jun rha rol." Embo tilted his head in confusion. He turned to K7.

Walking up to Embo, I gave him a hug. Embo still hasn't gotten used to physical affection. Looking up at him, I whispered,

"Ril ardo eyi jun rha rol translates to, I love you, my bright sun."

Embo hesitated before wrapping his arms around me.

"...Ril ardo eyi, Jun Ann."

Luhak waku qa ril trek ka = that was what I was (saying, not translated), yes

Ril ael nu Kyuzo tenii ril circoo = I will (teach) you (Kyuzo) when I get there

tired is what you could say you felt, but was that even the right word? ‘tired’ didn’t do enough justice to elucidate the mental and physical exhaustion you’ve been suffering from — simply just trying to survive. how long would it be before you got out of this school? would you even make it out aliv-

“hey?” dae-su waved his hand in-front of you face, snapping you out of whatever reverie state you were in. turning your head to him — realizing the expression that was plastered on his face. it was one you knew well. he was about to ask a question that was probably not the most intelligent…but you had to give it to him. he was just trying to find a way to entertain himself while your lives went to shit.

“what’s up?” you lazily smiled at him waiting to see what bizarre question he was going to pull out of his magic hat just for you.

“would you rather have toes for fingers, or fingers for toes?”

“what?!” out of all questions this definitely was not the one you were expecting, but you can’t say you’re complete surprised.

“which one would you rather have?” he was being 110% serious. 

“um..neither?” you spoke out, arching one of your brows in the process to show him that you truly did not understand the method to his madness

“c'mon! you have to pick one.”

“why would i want to have toes as my hands? i wouldn’t be able to do anything, THEN if i had fingers as toes, i wouldn’t get to wear shoes. it’s a lose-lose situation.” you shrugged. dae-su knew that you would think too hard about the question instead of just giving him a straight answer, but that’s what he liked about you. you always found a way to question the simple things. even stupid questions that didn’t need to be.

“okay but imagine this, if you have fingers as toes you’d be like a monkey and pick things up with your feet.”

“why would i want monkey toes?” you questioned, laughing at the mere thought of seeing yourself with toes of a monkey while you spoke.

“like say you’re sitting down and you’re in a comfortable spot while watching tv, but then ‘oh no!’ you realize the remote somehow ended up on the floor, you just use your finger toes to grab it therefore preventing you from having to get up.” you would hate to admit but that reasoning made perfect sense in your mind, and his too.”

”okay so then what about toes for fingers?”

“honestly, i don’t really see a benefit to them. i guess maybe you could smash down bread to make a penne.” 

thinking long and hard about the reply you were going to give him — realizing that maybe it would be a tiny bit cool to have fingers for toes, you gave him your final answer. 

“i guess i would have fingers for toes. so then if i were to hold your hand i’d make you hold my foot.” you both at laughed at the stupid response, quickly covering your mouths to prevent making too much noise.
