WELCOME TO ... SAN SEQUOIA & COPPERDALE K-505 UPDATE AND K-707 NEWS :)

As we are still in the Bold November, here come San Sequoia and Copperdale K-505, both with their make-over, both ready to fill your need of pixels :)

SAN SEQUOIA ... as you know, the city is based on the San Fransisco Bay and the first thing we remade in this world has been the bridge :) It has to be red. No question :D Then, we made the grass and finished with the streets and roads. In that order ...

As we made a lot of textures work this month, we'll come back with more details in the coming weeks in each world since, you know, ALL the K-505 and other K-Mods have to be updated ;)

COPPERDALE ... frankly, I was quite surprised. Because I didn't expect such a town. Very agreeable to watch and play BUT very complicated to transform with true pixels :D So ... we remade A LOT of things, including the road signs ... many many details to review, many many files to work on, we hope the result will fill your expectations !

We already worked on the trees of the city, and all this is very promising. Which makes me talk about the K-707 ...

The terrible K-707 ..................... :) Already there are some trees from the last 4 worlds that are reworked ( such as the palm trees of Tartosa and San Sequoia ) and indeed I think they are much more interesting than the original ones but the K-707 is a difficult and tricky one and we really have to take care of it from the beginning, aka the base-game ... So, be patient about ;) because it will be super cool.

More news next week with the coming arrival of ... Chestnut Ridge rework ---> At first look, no particular obstacle arise. It should be fairly easy to cover all basics.

So, we're already working on K-707 and some special K-303 we're eager to get out.

#3: Reflecting

When you arrive home, the bunker is suspiciously quiet. This is your first sign that something isn’t right. You call out to Saeyoung but he doesn’t reply.

You check his office, but it’s empty. You check the kitchen and the garage but they’re just as quiet. You step into the bedroom and notice the door to his walk-in wardrobe the slightest bit ajar. Aha.

The wardrobe is one of his favorite hiding spots. It’s warmer than anywhere else in the bunker and sitting in there makes it feel like you’re cut off from the rest of the world. It feels safe, like a strange kind of nest.

He’s sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, seemingly staring off into space. You step inside, close the door behind you, and smile softly at him through your reflection in one of the big mirrors. If he’s sitting in here, something is definitely wrong.

“Hi. Can I join you?” You ask. He doesn’t turn around; he just looks at you through the mirror. His eyes look weary, but he nods slowly. You lower yourself onto the wardrobe floor next to him so you’re sitting side by side. You search his expression. “Did something happen?”

He reaches for your hand in your lap and threads his fingers through yours. That’s a relief, at least. There are still times when his self-doubt gets the better of him and he tries to keep you at arm’s length. It’s a good sign that he’s allowing you to comfort him.

He looks up at the racks of clothing surrounding you, a rainbow of colours and fabrics. The first time you saw his wardrobe, you were surprised by the sheer amount of clothes that he had. You quickly discovered, though, that most of the wardrobe was filled with different disguises and costumes. Only a small corner held his clothes.

He takes a breath and says, in a voice that’s barely a whisper, “I’m not sure I know who I am.” His eyes are glazed over. He’s still half-floating, wherever he was when you were gone.

“What do you mean, love?” You wrap his hand in both of your own, trying to rub some warmth into his fingertips. He must have been sitting here like this for a while.

A crease forms between his eyebrows as he tries to make sense of his thoughts. “I mean… I’ve been so many people in my life, that I’m not sure who I am when I just… get to be me. What if I’m not a good person?”

You think about the person you talked to on the messenger before you ever met him. Zen’s videos going viral. The warnings about your safety peppered between silly jokes. Looking out for Yoosung when he was struggling. Offering to do Jaehee’s work for her when she was overwhelmed.

You think about the person he was when you met him for the first time in the apartment. The breathless desperation with which he arrived. His eyes watching you over his laptop screen. Ordering you extra food and making sure you ate.

You think about the person he is sitting next to you now. How he watches Saeran when you’re out as a group, looking for the slightest sign that he’s uncomfortable. The questions he asks Vanderwood, concern veiled as lighthearted comments. The little toys he surprises you with. The different ways he has tried to make the bunker more like a home for the three of you so you can be comfortable.

“Oh, you should have just asked me,” you say, keeping your voice light, “I know who you are.”

This seems to pull him back to reality. His eyes focus and he looks at you properly, curious to see where you’re taking this. “You do?”

“Oh yes.”

“Who am I?” He tries to make it sound like a joke, but you can see on his face that he’s earnest.

You think about him fiercely protecting the RFA at all costs. Risking his life to save his brother.

“Saeyoung. You are funny and too smart for your own good. You are the most caring person I have ever met. I have seen you go to the ends of the earth for the people you love and then still question if you're a good person.”

He opens his mouth to protest, but you’re not done.

“Just because you did those things when you were pretending to be someone else, doesn't mean that it wasn't real. In fact, it sometimes feels like you were all those things in spite of what others made you. That feels more authentic to me than anything else.”

He squeezes your hand, processing your words. You look into the mirror opposite you and see yourselves reflected what looks like an infinite number of times.

His expression seems to soften and lets out a small laugh. "You know, sometimes I forget that you were the first person to really see me."

BLADE RUNNER 2049 & PALE FIRE - ANALYSIS

SPOILERS AHEAD

NOTHINGNESS / EMPATHY

"…And blood-black nothingness began to spin" (704)

.

In both Blade Runner movies, the protagonists (Rick Deckard, and Officer K) have to go through the Voight Kampff test which is an “anti-empathy” test given to officers by their police department. This test uses certain stimuli to provoke an emotional response from the recipient since replicants are supposed to lack human emotion, especially empathy. In Blade Runner 2049, Officer K’s test intertwines a pre-memorized section with the stimulus questions.

Officer K’s baseline is taken from a section of the poem “Pale Fire” by Vladimir Nabokov. This poem holds significance because it contains themes of reality versus semblance, a prominent theme in the movie. The poem is meant to suggest that, just like humans, replicants are also capable of connecting with one another and perceiving emotion.

FOUNTAIN / REALITY

"And dreadfully distinct Against the dark, a tall white fountain played…" (707)

'"She told her interviewer of "The Land Beyond the Veil"... at the end she mentioned a remote Landscape, a hazy orchard - and I quote: "Beyond that orchard through a kind of smoke I glimpsed a tall white fountain - and awoke."' (750)

A poet in Pale Fire, named John Shade, wrote that he saw a "tall white fountain" during a brush with death. Later, Shade reads a magazine about a woman who also came close to death and had a similar vision of a "tall white fountain." Shade interprets this as proof that souls can pass onto an "afterlife." Intrigued, Shade asks the woman about the similarity and she replies saying that "'there's one misprint - not that it matters much: Mountain, not fountain.'" Shade’s misunderstanding surrounding his experience and the woman’s story being more than what it actually was is also a theme reflected in Blade Runner 2049.

Officer K thinks that he is the "chosen one" throughout the film but towards the end of the movie, he learns that he isn't the "chosen one" after all. This realization has Officer K feeling disillusioned and it shatters his perception of reality.

These events have made the two characters feel as if they have lived a false reality. Misunderstanding something as greater than it actually is, is a common theme in films and literature. More specifically Neo-Noir films and dystopian novels, where a cynical, hopeless character, must confront their feelings of uncertainty in or about their lives and the world that they live in.

VR H Class Pocono H220 Heavy Harry, the Antipodean Behemoth ("Red And Black Steam On Southern Metals" OC)

Once the bad boy prince of the Victorian Railways fleet, the heaviest engine in Australia; Heavy Harry of Newport Works was a marvel of Australian engineering, built to surmount inclines and run the breadth and width of Victoria. He was powerful, rambunctious and unique… sole extant member of his class, too heavy to take to any track other than the North Eastern line but did his job as a crack fast goods engine well, pulling 800 tonne consists with ease. He clocked over a million miles in his short career, making the earth shake and humans topple over in his wake.

In his day, he was almost as well known to the Victorian people as the Flying Scotsman was to the British, referenced in political cartoons and interviews in The Argus ... and then he simply vanished.

Gone.

Forgotten.

Alas, he almost scrapped along with thousands of others, stripped of his plates and headlamp and left for dead on the scrap roads of Newport Works with a deteriorating boiler. Even as he rotted and slowly lost his sanity on the scrap roads, he was a powerful presence.

He gained his reprieve in 1961, but he was shorn of his naivety; he never forgot the human caprice that laid him low. He is in constant physical pain from his deteriorated boiler which carries over into his human form.

“Heavy” Harry Jack Haining; Mightiest Loco in Australia, hooligan, Anarchist and every bit the picture of an Australian larrikin, an inveterate bogan who loves his beer, footy and smokes… who also happens to be gay and very complicated. And probably a daemon. Even he isn’t entirely sure.

(“Old Harry” is an old English nickname for the Devil, and ‘to play Old Harry’ means to bring ruin, chaos or destruction on something. Appropriate for a very, very angry engine with a habit of derailing and smashing into things during his working life.

Interestingly, a “Harry” in Norway is their equivalent of a bogan, or a yobbo, someone who is working class and vulgar. He finds this very funny. )

He lives over in Newport along with his best mate, the eternal cynic A2 Class No 986 "Pluto"; his brother in arms R707 Cerberus and his sister Andri, R 761; his adopted little sister Prudence, a K-class Consolidation; and the other locos of the Newport Railway Museum/SteamRail/707 Operations… but he is coming to prefer the Island of Sodor, though he cannot ever run as his engine self there or anywhere (boiler in need of replacement, lives with constant pain; also simply too big, the poor state of Victorian rails means he could so easily break them as he did back in the day) , so he goes there as human to visit his boyfriend SpookyHenry every so often.
