Jesus Christ, I'm sitting in the living room reading a book for college (at least I'm trying, because I don't get it). Suddenly my dad sat down and is watching a movie now. this title is from the musical tick, tick... BOOM, and features two men who turned 30 in 1990— yup. remus lupin meets jonathan larson in NYC. (dear god I've even posted a random ass snippet from this)

besides being an excuse for me to rewatch the movie like 99 times— yes, this is the andrew garfield meets andrew garfield joke, except I know nothing about andrew garfield (oops) so this is just a self indulgent shovel of lost years remus feels (lost, running from himself, spiritually homeless at the end of a long decade) just absolutely clashing with jon's still wanting so much. they wind up being flatmates, and remus winds up "doing" jon's dishes and "paying" his bills (you can't convince me that man took the statue of secrecy seriously) and witnesses the workshop of jon's musical.

For all that Remus could tell, Jon had been staring at the empty screen for hours.

“Go to bed.” He said groggily, picking up his guitar by pure force of habit then dropping it again. It was 4am.

“No.” Jon said simply, grumpy as his cat. “I’ve got to write this song. It’s important.”

“You’re not going to write it. Just accept it, won’t you?”

“No.”

“What are you going to do? Stare at the fucking blinker for another three hours?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

“I’m going to write this song.”

“Come on. You’re just making the electricity bills worse. This isn’t going to make or break your career—”

“Actually,” Jon whipped around, looked straight at Remus. His eyes were large and glowing manically in the lightless room, “this is the make or break of everything. My whole life has been leading to this— I just need this one song.”

Remus stared back, hand still resting limply on his guitar. Jon’s words echoed around his hollow chest, and Remus couldn’t tell if he envied Jon, or just felt sorry for the both of them. "Fine." Remus let out a long sigh, and put on the kettle. "Go on, then. Remember to wake me up for rehearsals."
