Tangela for the Johtodex!
I never realized how minty Tangela's vines were in the Gen 2 sprites until I went to research. So in this painting, an ode to Tangela's old minty vines!
There's something so classic Pokemon about Tangela's design that I just love. A ball of vines, a pair of eyes and a pair of shoes. Just a little guy who is also a pocket monster <3

You guys are getting spoiled today because I also finished my lanturn drawing! I included both versions (with and without filters) because i couldnt decide which I liked more.
I also based my lanturn design more on the original (japanese) sprite because I think it's current mouth looks weird and it's an angler fish, they are supposed to have big mouths.
I also added a dorsal fin because the bare back looked weird to me
I hope you enjoy my fishy lanturn!
Next up are the baby pokemon and boy am I not looking forward to figuring out how on earth to stylise them.

10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.
Growing up in Cherrygrove, as one can imagine, was idyllic... but generally uneventful.
Over her Gym Challenge, several moments stood out that served as turning points: her first day leaving Newbark/Cherrygrove, the excruciating challenges she faced when battling Johto’s first four Gyms, the Burned Tower Incident in Ecruteak;
The Burned Tower incident
Following an illusory blur (really, an astral vision of Suicune), Crys fell through the rotting floors of the Burned Tower. Although it should have killed her, her fall was broken by a gust of chilled air (courtesy of the same Suicune). Miraculously, she survived, but the incident left her scarred, and began a chain of events between her and the mercurial Pokemon of the northern winds.
; her run-ins with Rocket (particularly in Mahogany Town and at the Goldenrod Radio Tower), encounters with the pokemon of legend (Lugia, Ho-oh, the three beasts, and Celebi) and their capture/releases, completing the Johtodex, obtaining the title Champion of Indigo Plateau, subsequent Kanto Gym Challenge, and completion (sans Mewtwo and Mew) of the Kantodex.
She’s since set many records, and has won dozens of accolades:
first and youngest person to 100% the Johtodex, and in the shortest amount of time
first and youngest to *complete the Kantodex, and in the shortest amount of time (*98.7%)

Thing about Crys is that although she is tech-savvy, more than the average person is considered to be, she isn’t genius-level with it. A lot of how she learns to use gadgets/gizmos/and whatsits is through trial and error.
She is a boomer in how she misses the days of handwritten letters being more a thing. In a way, Crys romanticizes the early internet era, and times proceeding social media. While she isn’t active on many platforms (”rots the brain”), she keeps a blog that consists primarily of mood boards, photo dumps of peculiar nature shots, cringe song lyric collages, info-dumps and other nerd shit.

This week’s Johtodex update features everyone’s favorite singing balloon fairies, the Jigglypuff line! I’ve always had a fondness for Wigglytuff’s adorable design and Jigglypuff has always been my dad’s favorite Pokemon, so these guys mean a good deal to me!
With the style I’ve made for this project, I try to keep to the tiny eyes I’ve been giving them, but it’s hard not to make an exception when the eyes are the most defining physical feature!

Natu and Xatu for the Johtodex!
These are some of my all-time favorite bird Pokemon designs, I love them dearly. Psychic/Flying was also a pretty great type combination in Gen 2, after all it's the same as Lugia. My classic nickname for my resident Xatu party member is Luna, and all of them have saved my butt in battle countless times.
I love how Natu and Xatu are also tied in with the lore of the Ruins of Alph. Their existence only adds to the mystic atmosphere of it all.

Farfetch'd for the Johtodex!
I've always loved Farfetch'd. She's a valued member of my all-birds Crystal team based on my own characters from Ornithia (She's Kia).
I also love using her in the Stadium games for those more niche cups. Went through a lot of effort breeding one with Swords Dance, Quick Attack and Slash to trade back to Gen 1 for Stadium shenanigans.

Magby and Magmar for the Johtodex!
As a kid, I think Magmar scared me a bit, but I always thought its design was neat! Ever since Abilities were introduced, Magby has always been my egg-hatcher. I think it's cute to have another baby Pokemon help with hatching babies haha~

Elekid and Electabuzz for the Johtodex!
Through one of my first adventures through Crystal, my Odd Egg hatched into a shiny Elekid. I named her Pippi (since that's what I always thought the Elekid in Pikachu's Rescue Adventure was saying). She evolved into an Electabuzz and helped Dizzy Punch my team to victory.
Sadly the file died when the battery did, but I still have fond memories <3

Unown for the Johtodex!
I wanted the Unown to spell out something, and ultimately I decided on "Harmony" from this passage found in the Ruins of Alph in Crystal.
"Our words shall remain here for the ages
Thus we shall erect a Pokémon statue outside
We humans must learn to walk in harmony with them.
We depart for their sakes
They possess great insight and refuse the outside world"
While Unown aren't great battlers, I do really love the small bit of world building and lore it brings to Johto. They're just cool little guys!

Miltank for the Johtodex!
I know most people know Miltank and Whitney’s infamous signature pokemon, and with good reason, it’s even more of a beast in Stadium 2. Miltank is one of my all time favorite pokemon, I love how she is simultaneously tanky, strong and fast.
I included her little props as a nod to her signature move of Milk Drink, as well as Moomoo Milk, and her bell as she was one of few Pokemon back then that could learn Heal Bell. She has everything she needs to last long in a battle.

Meowth and Persian for the Johtodex!
Let me tell you, Persian is the BANE is my existence in the Stadium games, especially the first one. She’s fast and her Slash hits hard and almost always crits and Shadow Ball hits hurts too since it’s still physical. A Persian also headbutted my Sudowoodo and flinched it 9 times in a row.
