Modena, arriva Il Gabbiano di Anton Čechov. Attore, autore e regista, Premio della Critica ANCT 2020 e vicedirettore e coordinatore della Scuola per Attori del Teatro Stabile di Torino dal 2021, Leonardo Lidi si avvicina a uno scrittore a lui caro, Anton Čechov, insieme a un gruppo di tredici attori.  Prodotto da Teatro Stabile dell'Umbria, Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT / Teatro Nazionale, Teatro Stabile di Torino – Teatro Nazionale, in collaborazione con Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, Il gabbiano va in scena al Teatro Storchi di Modena dall’8 all’11 dicembre (giovedì e venerdì ore 20.30, sabato 19.00 e domenica 16.00), e segna la prima tappa di un progetto triennale composto da Zio Vanja e Il giardino dei ciliegi: tre case, tre famiglie raccontate con semplicità e poesia. La replica di domenica 11 aderisce a "Teatro No Limits", il progetto realizzato dal Centro Diego Fabbri di Forlì e dall’associazione Incontri Internazionali Diego Fabbri APS che porta l’audiodescrizione a teatro e consente alle persone con disabilità visiva di assistere agli spettacoli. Grazie a specifiche tecnologie verranno resi "visibili" scene, costumi, movimenti degli attori e tutti quei particolari silenziosi che altrimenti non potrebbero essere goduti. "In questa trilogia vedo la possibilità di tornare al senso pratico del teatro – commenta Leonardo Lidi – deviando gli intellettualismi e scegliendo la semplicità nella sua altezza. Scegliendo uno spazio. Scegliendo l’empatia e non una bolla elitaria. Scegliendo l’amore e il dolore che comporta questa opzione ma soprattutto scegliendo gli attori come forma d’arte e come pietra preziosa da difendere nel teatro italiano del nostro tempo". In scena un nutrito cast composto da Giordano Agrusta, Maurizio Cardillo, Ilaria Falini, Christian La Rosa, Angela Malfitano, Francesca Mazza, Orietta Notari, Tino Rossi, Massimiliano Speziani e Giuliana Vigogna (candidata al Premio Ubu 2022 come Migliore attrice o performer Under 35). "Gli attori passano insieme un tempo importante – prosegue Lidi – una parentesi della loro vita, lavorando assieme a un regista che sceglie finalmente il suo autore preferito come ripartenza del proprio percorso. Un classico del teatro capace di parlare a pubblico, attori, scrittori e registi e a cui Lidi si avvicina senza rivisitazioni, con semplicità, facendo emergere il confronto generazionale e la discussione sull’essenza del teatro che sottendono al testo. "Se penso ad Anton Čechov – conclude Lidi – mi torna in mente questo passaggio di John Lennon nella canzone Beautiful Boy: "La vita è ciò che ti accade mentre fai altri progetti". Ne Il gabbiano l’autore sembra creare un testo che possa interrogarsi sulla differenza tra Simbolismo e Realismo, sul senso critico del teatro rispetto al suo pubblico ma alla fine, contro ogni pronostico, arriva la vita. In scena ecco apparire l’amore e l’assenza di esso e ci ritroviamo accompagnati da personaggi talmente ben scritti e messi così bene in relazione tra di loro che tutti insieme decidiamo di deviare la trappola del Tema per aprirci e interrogarci sulla semplicità del nostro essere. Sui ricordi e la nostalgia dell’infanzia, su quell’incontro che ci ha fatto male e quell’incontro che ci ha cambiato la vita. O fatto sorridere. O fatto piangere. Come in un patto. Come se un gruppo di uomini e di donne lavorasse assieme con impegno e gioia confidando nell’arrivo della vita in scena. Ecco forse spiegato il perché Čechov ha superato il suo tempo, ecco come utilizzare un testo per arrivare alla vita". These people are ghouls

You’ve undoubtedly seen the above tweet. It went viral largely because it very simply (and unintentionally) called out the evolving idea of masculinity — specifically, who has evolved and who hasn’t.

The guy who posted this image, John Cardillo, clearly hasn’t.

What I'll say... No. What I'll ask is this: Do you think the image of a loving father embracing his adult son is inappropriate? If so, why? Also if so, how did your father raise you? Do you feel the same about your mother hugging you, giving you a kiss on the cheek? Does that somehow diminish your masculinity?

I guess what I’m getting at is I don’t understand people who don’t understand that this image is beautiful. It shows love and fatherly pride and, yes, unwavering masculinity. Because real masculinity means not being afraid to show emotion, to express it. And those who disagree are the people who still use the word “gay” as an insult.

Cardillo maybe was joking when he posted this, implying an incestuous relationship between Biden and his son. It’s a political season, after all, and everybody thinks they’re a goddman comedian. But, the fact that this “joke” didn’t land and instead became a lightening rod for discussions about what modern masculinity means says more about Cardillo himself — that he is a slave to antiquated ideals and he is not masculine enough to express love without feeling weak. He’s a coward.

Anyway, dads, go hug your sons, kiss them on the cheek. It’s manly as fuck to be a father who isn’t afraid to show love for their boy.
