butterfly hair clips and strawberry lip smackers. changing clothes in the bathroom at school. a glittery lava lamp. sleeping with a small army of soft toys because you can’t bear to leave anybody out. hiding stuff at a friend’s house. fuzzy pillows and cosy pyjamas. wishing you could dye your hair. wishing you could decorate your room. wishing your mother understood you. day-dreaming. singing in the shower. keeping a secret diary. briefly falling in love with a stranger on the bus.

biography. (bullying mention, fatphobia tw)
The Perez family moved to Grimrose when Kitty was six years old, after her father’s job relocated him to the New Hampshire branch of his company.
Kitty and her older sister, Maritza, had a pretty strict upbringing - their parents are devout catholics, and their mother, Renata, had particularly high expectations for the way her daughters would behave. She loves her daughters, but she exerts a lot of control over their lives, even now.
Maritza and Kitty have never gotten along. Maritza is perfect: she’s pretty, graceful and popular, she never seems to slip up, and she makes their parents very proud. In comparison, Kitty feels like a total screw up.
Kitty was pretty severely bullied for most of her time at school. She’s always been a sweet girl with an outgoing personality, but between her conservative clothes, glasses, weight and braces, she made an easy target for her spiteful peers.
By the time she finished middle school, she figured out how to play the system. Her little group of friends gave her things to borrow - a plastic choker, stick on earrings, glitter eyeshadow - and she started to become something that felt a little more like herself, if only in secret. The damage was already done, though, and she’d be a loser for the rest of high school.
Leading a double life was tricky, but not impossible. Kitty knew she’d do just about anything to keep enjoying the things she really loved, while maintaining the tenuous peace at home. Part of her secularisation was discovering popular music, which she consumed greedily whenever she could get her hands on it.
Kitty has loved to sing her whole life. She has a beautiful voice, and hearing vocal powerhouses like Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey lit a fire inside her. Her secret aspiration is to join a band and make music, but she knows her mother would kill her if she ever found out.
On graduating from high school, Kitty went on to study chemistry at the University of New Hampshire - she lived at home during this time, and really didn’t get to experience college like other young people do.
If she felt restless before, it’s worse than ever now. She’s twenty-four years old, still living at home, working a job with no future in mind, and still lying about who she is to her family. It’s exhausting, and soon something will have to give.
other things.
her karaoke song is don’t speak by no doubt.
she’s still waiting on her first kiss. aaaaaany day now…
she was in band in high school - first chair clarinet, and hating every second of it. the uniform was not cute.
she tried to cut herself bangs using her mother’s sewing scissors when she was eleven. it went about as well as could be expected, and she had to wear an alice band for six months while her hair grew back.
kitty sings in her church choir, and that’s about the only thing she likes about church.
most of her actual clothes and music she keeps at friends’ houses, so she can keep her secular tastes a secret from her mom.
her favourite movie is dirty dancing, but she tells people it’s pulp fiction.
if you ever see a cute mexican girl in a floppy hat and sunglasses shopping at the claires in the mall of the next town over… no you didn’t.

Retired UP Professor of Spanish Carmen Gloria Diaz de Ventanilla, Ph.D., passed away on 14 December, 2023 in Petaluma, California. She was 88. She was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, on 23 October 1935. She pursued her MA in Education at Indiana University, in Bloomington, where destiny brought her together with Atty. Oscar Ventanilla Jr., who was then working on his LLM and MBA degrees. They got married in Puerto Rico in 1962, and soon after, they embarked on a new chapter in the Philippines, where their four children (Oscar III, Danny, Gerry, and Maita) were born. The Ventanillas celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary early this year.
Carmen dedicated her career to teaching Spanish at UP Diliman, leaving an indelible mark from 1964 until her well-deserved retirement in 2002. Along the way, she obtained her MA in Philippine Hispanic Literature and Ph.D. in Spanish at the university. For almost six decades, she resided in Area 2, UP Diliman, where she helped create a neighborhood filled with collegiality and optimism.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Carmen was a devout Roman Catholic and a follower of the Blessed Mother, actively participating in the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, her pastoral community. She lovingly adorned the church on important feast days, leading processions and stations of the cross with unwavering devotion. In a poignant moment, she even portrayed the role of the Blessed Mother alongside her son, Gerry, as Jesus Christ in the live Via Crucis, beautifully directed by UP Theatre Arts Professor Ogie Juliano. Additionally, she showcased her talent as a Señora in Nick Joaquin's Ang Larawan under the guidance of National Artist for Theatre Tony Mabesa. She delivered both performances during the 1990s.
Carmen's heart overflowed with love for her seven beloved grandchildren, showering them with affection and joy. She generously shared her wisdom as a faculty adviser to the chorale group Los Chavales, where many members of The Tux and The Philippine Madrigal Singers emerged, forever grateful for her guidance.
With her passing, Carmen leaves a legacy of compassion, intellect, and deep concern for others. Her presence will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire generations.

Carlos was nothing but a pain, a menace to Encanto. Especially to [Name]. He's the cause of all of her problems, always there to tease her, always there to make fun of her, always there to make sure she embarrass herself in public.
All of her friends left her because of him, they say they don't wanna be friends anymore because Carlos threatened them.
Why? Why is he like this? He likes to see the [hair. color] suffer.
Maybe it's because she never cry, at least not in front of him nor did he hear her. She does like being in the rain though, the boy found it weird, it's either sitting on the wall or standing in the middle of nowhere. He makes sure to make fun of her for it.
He likes it when her attention is his, just looking at him with those dazzling [eye. color] that glows beneath the ray of the sun. Her angry expression is adorable to him, how can he not make her feel range.
He's a sadist and he knows it.
[Name] were alone most of the time, he could see her drown herself into chores and work. Why does she have 5 jobs? She's always overworked herself. Not gonna lie, he panicked when he caught her fainting on him when he was messing around.
That's it, she's quitting 2 of your jobs, 3 is enough.
Why does he care? He's Carlos Madrigal, for goodness sake.
He was satisfied with his routine, make mischief to the stalls, mess with people's chores, help Julieta bring the ingredients, tease her, make fun of her, making sure that everyone knows about her stupid miserable life.
Everything is doing great for him until she got herself a boyfriend. (It's not Camilo gaiz)
The guy was sweet, and charming on the outside, how can you not fall for him. The troublemaker knew this guy, he played with girls' feelings, as if they were a toy. Luring them with affection, sweet words, little gifts. He never paid mind, it's not like it's his business.
So, why does he have a pang of pain in his chest when the two of them locked lips. He doesn't care, not a single bit.
So, why is he so angry when he saw the guy flirt with another girl that's not [name]. It's not his business, and he likes seeing her miserable, right?
It hurts more when he saw the guy assuring her that the other person is just a friend, and that's what friends do.
But when he saw the guy make out with someone. Someone that's not her, someone that's not his own girlfriend. He had enough.
The troublemaker marches over, grabbing the guy by the shoulders pulling him away from the other.
"Hey! What's your probl—" Carlos cut him off with a hard punch in the face. Causing the guy to fall to the ground with a loud groan.
"Joaquin! Why did you hit..." the stranger froze at the troublemaker's icy glare, making her shut up immediately, and run away.
"What was that for?!" Asked Joaquin, looking as confused as ever.
"For being a jerk to her, you huevón."
[Name] is walking stall to stall, picking up some fresh vegetables and fruits. The hood of her poncho, covered half of her face, not wanting to be seen.
Who knows what Carlos would do if he found it's her? Steal her goods, throw them in the river, or eat them in front of her and forced her to eat them too. They have a shortage of money right now, it's because of Carlos.
Why is he doing this?? She didn't know.
she hoped that he won't interfere with her significant other, she's been the happiest with Joaquin. [Name] sees him as a kind, gentlemanly, selfless person. A complete opposite of Carlos.
The girl was about to go back home, cheering silently for not spotting the troublemaker anywhere, but—
"Help! Help! It's Carlos, he's beating up Joaquin! Please help me!" The voice of a friend of yours: Ligia, called out.
Her sound of desperation attracts the others, quickly questioning where they might be, and why did they fight.
"I- I don't know, we were just minding our business when he suddenly came and punch him in the face!"
Hearing what happened, she dashed to the location after she heard where they were. The others were right behind her.
[Name] witness Carlos fighting with her Significant other. Not this, please not him, he can't leave her too. She lost so many people because of Carlos, not the person she loved dearly.
Rushing over to them, she tried to stop it, tugging the troublemaker's sleeves hard, pulling and screaming but the heterochromia boy is too stubborn to even listen.
"Carlos! Stop this!!" She kept her hold on his arm, even when he tried to brush her off gently. His efforts were wasted when her hold tighten, causing him to shove her harder, so he won't hit her when he trow some punches. To his dismay, he accidentally hit the [hair. color] on the nose with his elbow. "Ack-! Ugh.. ow.." she whimpered.
The sound of her in agony, snap the troublemaker out of his trace. Looking over his shoulder, seeing her with a hand over her face, covering the nose as well as the mouth.
A feeling of liquid made [name] pull her hand away, a sight of red substance smeared over her back palm cause her eyes to widen.
The townspeople as well as a few Madrigals caught up and pull the two boys apart, demanding an explanation why Carlos suddenly attacked them.
"Oh Mija, lift your head up, don't let it flow down," Julieta instructed, handing the girl a meal to heal her bruised nose. Camilo pulled her up to her feet. "You shouldn't have stopped the fight by yourself, you got hurt because of it! Be careful next time, Mija."
"He threatened me!" Joaquin lied through his teeth, accusingly pointing a finger to the heterochromia boy, who scoff at him, "I and Ligia was just talking to each other—"
"Yea, right 'talking'."
"— he then comes out of nowhere, saying I should stay away from [name]!" The mention of her name, cause the girl to glare at Carlos.
Not this again, how could he?? Is he really that desperate to see her miserable?
The guy internally smirk at the troublemaker's ranging expression, he knew everything about his relationship with the [hair. color], and he's using it against him.
"I told him 'no' but he started to punch me!" If looks could kill, Joaquin will be dead by now. Carlos is burning holes in his body, causing the guy to tremble beneath his glaze.
The boy didn't call him out, since he already knew no one will believe him. No one, except his older twin brother: Camilo, had a concerned expression. Worried about his twin.
Joaquin made eye contact with Ligia, the two silently agreeing with what's gonna happen next. The guy turned to the [hair. color], "I don't think we should see each other anymore."
The color of her eyes drains, as she witnesses him walk away, a few of the people following behind, giving him Julieta's food.
The troublemaker's knuckles turned white as he clench his fist. "You little—!" He lunched but was held back by Osvaldo. "Stop lying about you two just talking! We both know you weren't doing that! You're just using this as an excuse to break up with [na—]!"
"Carlos!" A certain voice called out, followed by a loud crash of thunder. The said boy stopped struggling immediately.
The townspeople started to walk away, and do their own thing, not wanting to be struck by the lightning made by the cloud above her, and knowing well that Pepa will handle the situation, "What is this?! I told you to not pick a fight anymore!" Heavy rain started to fall down.
Carlos only turned away from her— his wet curls bounced a bit, too stubborn to answer. Camilo swiftly rushes to his side, not wanting the situation to worsen. "Mamì I can handle this, don't worry! I'll talk to him, it's okay now." He assured her, the rain started to ease. He continued to help his mother calm down with his Tìa Julieta.
The boy's heterochromia eyes, met her [eye. color] ones. Her's is mixed with hurt, anger, as well as helplessness. He must have stared too long, too long to notice her tears. She's crying. It's almost invisible, disguised as raindrops.
No, that can't be true, [name] never cries. Not in front of him or in front of anybody. But there she is, close to letting out a sobbed as she stared back at him.
Those aren't raindrops, he noticed. They're her tears, pouring out of her beautiful eyes.
"Why are you like this...?" She whispered, so silent he almost didn't hear her. "Why do you like it when I'm suffering...? Huh, Madrigal?"
"[Name]..."
"Careverga." With an insult she sprinted to who know where, Carlos called out her name, running after her.
"Where do you think you're going?! I'm still not done with you, Carlito!!" The ginger shouted, the cloud's size became bigger by second.
"Carlos! I'll go get him, Mamì. I'll be right back— Carlos! Wait up!"
The shape-shifter scuttles to follow his brother, stopping him by his shoulders, "Hermano, stop!" He voiced out, his younger brother ignored him, pushing his hand away as he speeds walk through the pouring rain. "Will you just— listen to me for once in your life!!"
Carlos let out a sigh, before finally facing his twin. The troublemaker is taller than him due to having a good posture. "What could anymore important than [name] right now?!"
"Her personal space, Carlos!" The shape-shifter exclaimed, "can't you see she's trying to get away from you, Hermano? Just— please let her be alone for a while..."
"No, you don't understand. I need to tell her the truth about that Hijueputa!" Carlos throws his hands around, frustrated. "I need to be there for her!"
"She's been through enough, I know you two aren't on good terms, but you have to step aside on this one, okay?" Camilo strolled forward, he held his forearms trying to pull him to their home. "C'mon, let's get back to casita." But his twin breaks his hold.
"I'm not going back there without knowing if [name]'s fine."
"Ugh, why are you so stubborn about [name]?!" The shape-shifter finally snaps.
"Because she was there for me when no one else was!" Both of their eyes widen at his statement, taken aback at the unexpected outburst. "Forget what I've said, go back to the casita, Camilo."
"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what do mean by that."
"I mean go back to the house, you're soaked-"
"We both know what I'm talking about here. We're... twins, right?" Camilo inquired lowly, rubbing the back of his neck. "We stick together. I'm trying my best to be close to you, but if you keep shutting me out, I can't—" words got caught up to Camilo's throat, unable to form the ones he wanted to tell him.
A moment of silence fell to the two of them, the only sound is the pattering rain, the shape-shifter shut his eyes knowing that his brother won't tell a soul. turning back to walk home, a voice stops him. "it was the day we got our gifts."
The older Madrigal faces the Troublemaker once again, curiosity and warmness swim in his pupils. He's finally opening up, after years of effort.
"Everyone was there, but no one except mama and papa, congratulate me for having a unique gift. We have the same powers, yet you're the only one that gets praises." He continued, Camilo's expression softening, feeling a bit guilty of not knowing about the situation. "I went to the back outside of casita, I was bawling—" Carlos frowned at his word of choice.
"Pfft-"
"Hey! I was 5, okay?!" The troublemaker said defensively, though he had a small smile plastered on his features. It’s been a while since they have a precious moment like this, despite the weather. "that brat suddenly shows up, feeling like she's a hero or something, and started to do weird things..." he paused, as he recall the memory. "I asked her what the hell is she doing and, said that's she's trying to cheer me up. I told her to scram but didn't listen— she's super stubborn, it's frustrating!"
"Did she succeed?"
"Succeed to make me want to pull my hair out, yea."
"No, no, no! heh," Camilo chuckled, "I meant, did she succeed in cheering you up?"
"...yea, she did."
~~
[Name] can't help but feel downcast and frustrated at the same time as she recalls what just happened. The girl is currently crying under the bridge at the farsight of Encanto. Sitting at the small hill at the side of it, avoiding the flowing water in front of her.
"I don't think we should see each other anymore."
She shouldn't be hurt by his words, it happens all the time, it's not anything new. Whenever she made a friend, or be close to someone or something, Carlos will be there to destroy it.
"I'm sorry, but I don't want to be friends with you anymore, Carlos said you don't like me..."
"Carlos made me do it, I'm really sorry [name]!"
"[Name]! Do you know what Carlos did to my house??! If he keeps messing with me, I don't wanna be friends with you!"
"Carlos said—" "Carlos did this—" "‐ that's why Carlos..."
Carlos. Why? She didn't do anything. He just shows up out of nowhere and bullies her nonstop.
More tears start to flood, as she close her eyes to stop them, whimpers forced their way out. The [hair. color] let out a frustrated groan, before harshly wiping her eyes and burying her head between her knees.
Quiet footsteps approach and stop beside her. Full knowing who it is, she finally snaps. "What do you want, Madrigal? Make fun of me?? Push me into the river?? Go ahead, I'm done with everything."
Her piercing glare didn't do any harm to him, Carlos just stood as she didn't say anything.
"If you have nothing to say, leave. I don't want to see your stupid face." A brief silence fell between the two, just then the troublemaker broke it.
"Look, [name]—"
"Can't you understand that I don't want to see you right now?! All you've been doing to me is fucked my life up! Yet, you don't even know how much you affect me!" She yelled, hands gesturing to him and herself, as her words echoed around them. Tears of frustration trailed down her face. She continued, "I've tried to figure out what I did to make you angry at me, figure out why you're doing all this." Back of her hands pressed against her eyes as she cried openly.
Carlos was speechless, yes he made others cry and he's always satisfied if he did so, though the sound of her cries made him feel nothing but guilt, and sorrow.
"You made all of my friends and now my novio turn against me... mì tìa lost 2 of her jobs when I took over her work, so she can rest for a week... People also make fun of me thinking it's normal since you did it so openly..." she confessed, sobbing at every end of her sentence. "You made my life a living hell..."
"Why...?" She whispered, "I just wanna know w-why you did this.." her lips quivered, causing her to stutter.
Casita nudges a plate of pandebono, to the 5 years-old Carlos, who just pushed it away as he choked up sobs so no one can hear him. "I'm not hungry, Casita. I don't know why he's so special— we're identical to each other... I'm his shadow."
Carlos debated inside his head, should tell her the truth. He doesn't want her more hurt than she is right now, but he still did it anyway. "... they're talking badly behind your back, they'll say your family is weird, why you dress like that, your hobby is horrible, just things like that. That's why I cut them off before things got worse." The troublemaker admitted, his eyes trailed to the leaf floating on the running river.
"Hello! What are you doing back here?" The little boy heard her voice, looking up she was smiling at him but frown when she saw his wet face. He can tell they're the same age, "Oh no, what happened? Did someone make you cry?? Do not worry, [name] is here to protect you!"
"As for that boyfriend of yours, he's been cheating on you with that Ligia brat." Carlos wince when he heard the [hair. color] gasp in disbelief as well as betrayal, he's not being careful with his words.
"[Name]? That's an awful name." The little troublemaker commented, beaming when she started to be angry at him.
The brunette crouches down beside her, observing her reaction, as well as her features. He remembered it clear as day, her innocent [eye. color] that glistening under the moonlight, are now squinting a bit to stop the flowing liquid. Approaching her, he gently wipe her tears away, caressing her face in the process, as they lock eyes.
The little girl let out a hmph, stomping her tiny foot at the ground. "I'm mad at you, but since it's your special day, I'll let it slide." Strolling forward, her small hands smeared his wet face, receiving protests from the boy, but let her continue. "You have pretty eyes— a boy with pretty eyes shouldn't be crying!" She beams.
"A girl with pretty eyes shouldn't be crying." He copied her words from the past, [name] scoff at his words.
"That's definitely a lie since it's coming from you."
Carlos ignored her comment and took a seat beside her. Pulling off his soaked maroon ruana, his wet brown hair bounce around once it got out of the clothing, completely unaware of a pair of [e.c] watching him with flush cheeks as he squeeze the water out of it.
The little troublemaker watches as she roams around her dress, trying to find something. "What are doing, idiot?" He inquired, rubbing his runny nose.
"I don't have my handkerchief, umm, here! Use this!" Grabbing a fist full of the helm of her skirt, "go on, blow on it!"
"Here, blow your nose here." Arranging his hand under the clothing, bringing it up to her nose.
"What, no! Your sweat is there, no!"
"Stop being stubborn, and just blow."
"Eww! Disgusting, that's probably dirty-" the boy commented, his expression explaining everything.
"Oh c'mon, it's not dirty! I help mi mamì wash these! Blow on it, I don't mind!"
Putting her nose in between, and obeyed. Once she finished, moving his hands to the cleaner part of his ruana he wipes her face, before he questioned, "you good?" Satisfied with himself when [name] nods in confirmation.
"Your dress is disgusting now, you should leave and wash it up." Little Carlos pointed out, too embarrassed that he's crying in front of a girl.
"Nah, I'll do it later! After I cheer you up!"
The clouds are clearing up, and the sun started to peek between them. Comfortable quietness fell beyond the two, the troublemaker is rethinking his words for a few moments before he spoke, "I want to apologize for all the things I did to you."
"Are you Camilo? Shape-shifted into Carlos?"
"Tsk, no. I'm serious here." Heterochromia eyes glare down her body.
"Okay, jeez." Her hands up, as if she's surrendering. For a brief moment of fidgeting with her fingers, she finally voice out her thoughts, "If you don't mind me asking-"
"I do mind." Carlos cut her off, a smirk plastered on his face.
"I'm not finished yet!" The girl lightly nudges his shoulders, with a playful glare as he chuckles at her reaction. She can't believe it, her bully for so many years is being friendly to her for once in her life. "I just wanna know— why you did it in the first place...?"
The troublemaker thought for a moment before answering, "maybe it's because you ignored me whenever I say hi to you when we were little."
He says what? She did what?? [Name] is speechless, she doesn't remember anything about Carlos or being friends with him. They're just no way. "...since when did I ignore you?? I haven't met you before! You just appeared out of nowhere and annoyed me!"
The brunette looked at her like she's the dumbest person in the world, well for him- she is, but that's beside the point. This girl is in the moment that is the most memorable in his life, doesn't remember a single of what happened. Doesn't she recognize him? He still has mismatched eyes like before, the hair he had from that very day, which makes her forget about him.
"Aye, you and your forgettable brain. I don't think that's something my tìa could heal."
"Hey! I have an excellent memory!"
"Says the person who yells outside their house, 'cause she forgot what ingredients she should buy."
"They're giving me a list of things that are not written on paper, it's hard to grasp all of it!" She defended, her curiosity is becoming bigger and bigger about her relationship with Carlos. "okay, okay, so when did we first meet?"
"You honestly don't know?" He rise a brow, thinking that she's just messing with him. With a shook of a head, [name] scooch closer to the boy, tilting her head a bit, expecting a story to be told. "Tsk, it was when my brother and I got our gifts, do you remember that night? Or you really need health care?"
"I remember it, there's a party and everyone was excited to see your rooms and your powers. Go on, go on!"
"Alright, do you-" he cleared his throat, "do you remember the little boy..? At the back of the house?"
The [hair. color]'s once curious eyes widen in surprise, "wait, wait, wait— so you saw that little kid, too?" It's not common for the girl to have memories issues, but Carlos can't help but mentally facepalm at her words.
The troublemaker's mouth is slightly open, brows knitted together, with a mixed expression of confusion, disbelief, and a hint of disappointment. "What?" That was all he can utter.
"After that day, I never saw him again. I've looked all over Encanto, but he's nowhere to be found," she stated, her eyes found him, but glanced away when she receives his squinting ones. “I told my Tia about him, she said that maybe I saw a ghost. I believe her, of course. I mean, he’s wearing all white!”
yea, that’s confirmed. she really is stupid. Carlos gave her a deadpan look, before voicing out, "I'm that little kid, idiot."
With that sentence, she quickly observed his features. From big to small details, like his beauty mark below his left eye. The troublemaker glared at her gaze, offended she mimic his action, this cause them to have a mini staring competition.
They say there for a few moments, unblinking. [Name] has no trouble with the challenge, while Carlos is struggling, his eyes sting and watering a bit. So he did what he needed to do. Cheat.
Blowing at her eyes, causes the girl to lose focus and blink at the sudden movement. "Hah! Weakling."
"You cheated!"
"That's what all losers say. They just can't accept they lost."
"You- ugh!!" She groans loudly, pissed that he cheated and had the nerve to be cocky. On the other hand, Carlos is having the time of his life.
~~
"How long are we gonna wait here?" Little Antonio inquired, whispering a few words with the animals with him. Camilo clench the towel he's holding as they both eavesdrop on their brother.
"Only a little while, Tonito." The shape-shifter smiled widely when he heard Carlos laugh just below the bridge they're standing. "Just let Carlito have his moment."

Valentine's Special!
Random drabbles with Carlos and Camilo! Enjoy!
"And that's it for now! Everyone please enjoy the rest of your day." The bell rang throughout the school. Students flooded the hallway, forming into groups and mingling with their friends.
You adjusted your uniform and threw your schoolbag over your shoulder. The door creaked as you pushed it open. You huffed at the heavy weight, why were the doors so damn big?
"Y/N!" A pair of soft arms wrapped around your torso. Maria ran to your side and held a bouquet of flowers in her arms, face flushed red. Your eyebrows raised. Oh?
"You'll never believe who gave me this!" She squealed, clasping her hand in yours. You faked a confused face, tapping the side of your cheek as you pondered.
"Oh I wonder who it could be- Who else? It's Joaquin isn't it?" You teased, bumping your hip against hers. Joaquin was that cute guy down the road, he was nice but his little brother had a weird obsession with coffee.
"Yes, it's him." Maria rolled her eyes when you cheered, throwing your arms around her shoulder. You were about to open your mouth and start teasing her but she suddenly dug her foot into the ground and halted to a stop. Maria's jaw went slack and she turned to you, a playful smile dancing on her lips.
"Your novio is here!" She teased, placing emphasis in the word 'novio'. You turned your gaze to see-

...Camilo rushing towards you, bumping into a few students in the process. His hair was dishevelled, curls flying around in every direction. In his hands, he held a large bouquet of sunflowers and a chameleon plushy.
"Have fun!" Maria giggled and scampered away, leaving you alone as you made your way towards Camilo. He finally reached you and skidded to a stop, breathing heavily as sweat dribbled down his chin.
"....H-Happy Valentines!" He stammered, awkwardly fidgeting around. You opened your mouth to greet him but he shoved the bouquet of flowers into your face.
"D-Do you like it?" He questioned, a mix of nervousness and giddiness in his eyes. Your hands gently pet the stuffed chameleon, heart swelling over how sweet the gesture was.
Oh fuck, here come the waterworks. Your eyes burned as tears started to form. Camilo's face immediately dropped and he started to panic. He reached forward and clasped your arms, hands shaky as he started apologizing.
"I-I'm sorry- is it too much? Maybe you don't like chameleons or sunflowers- Mierda. I'm an idiot, I should've asked you first-" You immediately waved your hands around, cutting off his rambling.
"No! No! I love it! It's just - this is so sweet." You spoke, voice wavering as you started sobbing.
Camilo relaxed, internally hyping himself up. He smiled softly and raised his hands up to caress your face; quickly wiping your tears away.
"Anything for you, mi vida." Camilo whispered, leaning forward and pressing a warm kiss on your lips. You hummed and pulled on his collar, drawing him closer.
"I love you." You pulled away, bashfully smiling as you clutched the chameleon plushy.
"I love you too, mi vida."

...Carlos walking towards you, face red as he held a bouquet or roses in his hands. You smiled warmly and quickly ushered Maria away, rolling your eyes at her teasing.
"Enjoy yourself!" She giggled and lightly pushed you forward before walking away.
Carlos quickened his steps as he got closer and closer to you. The teen awkwardly smiled once he was in front of you. His hands were shaky, eyes darting everywhere but you- was he- no way. Was Carlos Madrigal nervous?
You raised your brows in surprise, bringing a hand up to your chest. In all your months of dating him, you've never seen Carlos like this. Sure, he did get flustered here and there but never...this.
"Happy Valentine's Day- I.." Carlos sucked in a breath, suddenly tensing up. "...I love you." He muttered, cracking a hesitant smile as he pushed the flowers into your hands.
He quietly observed your face with baited breath, watching quiety as you took the roses from his hands.
Did you even like roses? Fuck. He should have brought more gifts- He's pretty sure Camilo brought his lover a whole stack. It's fine, he has his wallet with him- he could probably bring you along on a shopping spree.
He was cut out of his thoughts when you suddenly ran into his arms, wrapping your arms around his torso-making sure not to damage the roses. Your tears soaked into his ruana and Carlos started to get worried.
"I-I love you so much. Thank you." You muttured into his ruana, refusing to let go. Carlos's heart warmed and he chuckled, placing this arms around you. He pressed a soft kiss atop your head, fingers threading through your hair.
"Anything for you." He whispered, tightening his grip on your body.
"Only for you."
❣️ extra drabble:
A loud whistle rang throughout the empty house as two teens made their way to the kitchen. You and Carlos had just returned from a date and he wanted both of you to just relax for a bit.
Throwing his arms in front of him, Carlos lay his head down on the counter, mindlessly tapping his fingernails on the wood.
"You coming, muñeca?" The boy lifted his head to turn to you, raising a hand to call you over.
"Mhm, I am." You waddled over, hands reaching out to leave feather light touches on Carlos's back. Still, there was a moment of hesitation.
'No, he's not too big on affection.' Your fingers twitched slightly as you resisted the urge to pull him into a hug. Another sigh, you tucked your hands away, plopping down on the chair next to him.
Two dark eyes observed your slumped form, an amused smirk forming on his lips. Carlos knew you, he knew your habits and he definitely knew what that look on your face meant.
"Ah, that chair you're sitting on is no good." He spoke and reached his hand out to grip your bicep. Carlos tugged you forward, pulling you into his lap while his chin rested on your shoulder. A dumbass excuse to pull you into a hug but it works. He'd never admit it but he loved physical affection just as much-if not more, than you.
"Comfy?"
"I-I-Uhm." You stuttered; A red flush bloomed on your face when he pressed a kiss on your cheek. Your boyfriend pulled you closer, his arms encircling around your torso.
"If you wanted to hold me, you should have said so."
•❣️•
The sun shone brightly in the village square, leaving you feeling a bit flushed. Reaching into your bag, you took out a fan to alleviate your little heat problem.
'At least Pepa is happy.' A passing thought.
Your boyfriend didn't seem to mind the heat and eagerly ran into the fields. A smile spread on your lips as you trailed after Camilo's form. You felt warm and fuzzy as you quietly observed him playing around with the village kids.
"What's this? You wanna hug?" A slight twinge of jealousy suddenly sparked in you as Camilo pulled a kid into his arms, playfully swinging the toddler around.
God, if it were only that easy. You wish you could just walk up to Camilo and ask for his affection like that.
A frustrated squeal left your lips and you hid your face in your hands. Why was it so hard to ask for affection?
"Psst! Camilo!" Cecilia whispered, her small hands tugging on Camilo's wrinkled slacks. The shapeshifter raised a brow, leaning down to her level. "Yes?"
"Y/N looks sad!" A frown formed on her face as she pointed to your form. Camilo's gaze immediately hardened and he turned his head to your direction. A pout replaced your bright smile, shoulders slumped as you leaned against the pillar.
"What's wrong, mi vida?" Camilo rushed over, spreading his arms wide as he pulled you into a warm hug. You jumped and yelped, whipping your body around to face him.
"Ah-I just- I just wanted a hug." You whispered, feeling a tad bit embarrassed. Camilo just grinned and leaned against you.
"Well, you'll gladly get all the hugs you want!"

Betrothed to Another pt. 2
Isabela Madrigal x reader
Words: 2.9k
Prompt: The aftermath
Tumblr media
--
She was already crying as you spoke, but your last words hung in the air and destroyed her completely. It didn't surprise her, how could it? You'd both known how you felt about each other for years, but just never got the chance to act upon and now you never you would. She knew exactly how big the mistake she was about to make was when she bursted forward and kissed you hard on the mouth, teeth clashing as your hands flew up to cup her face. Your first and last kiss was simultaneously nothing and exactly like you thought it would be, it was bittersweet and clumsy, but you felt alive for the first time kissing Isabela. She stole the oxygen from your lungs just to breathe life back into you, the world around you paused like it had been waiting for this moment all along, allowing you to relish the way her mouth tasted. A kaleidoscope of butterflies exploded in your stomach and fluttered around your soul, filling you with a giddy excitement that made you feel like a child again. You would've busted out into a fit of exhilarated screams if the butterflies didn't turn into bees and his face didn't etch itself into your mind. You pulled away from her, staring down at the tears that hit the ground at your feet as both of you sobbed.
"I love you," she cried, prompting you to squeeze your eyes shut and pray that it was all a nightmare that you'd wake from anytime now.
It wasn't a nightmare though, this horrific situation you were in was all too real and the solution wasn't as simple as waking up. You couldn't believe this was happening, what kind of cruel world would such a fucked up situation come into fruition? You stood there, foreheads pressed against each others and hands clasped between you for minutes thinking about what things could have been. She felt like an idiot for just standing there, but she knew if she spoke it would just be to try and convince you to back out of it.
"Isabela I-"
"Y/N, YOUR BOYFR- FIANCE IS HERE!" Camilo yelled, you wondered if he waited at the door just so he could scream throughout the house.
You stared at each other, sharing the same somber expression. She pleaded at you with her eyes to just stay, but you both knew that you couldn't, so you took her hand and pressed a tender kiss to it. Isa wasn't going to walk you out, she didn't want to see him, she was afraid of what she might do to him if he got the audacity to kiss you in front of her again. As if you put on a mask, your face lifted as you twisted the doorknob and a small, sad smile spread across your features as you gave her one last look before stepping out of her room and down to Joaquin
-TIME SKIP 8 MONTHS-
It was finally happening, the absolute worst thing that could happen to Isabela was finally happening tomorrow, you were going to marry Joaquin Herrera. She tried her hardest to not be upset, but as the months passed, you seemed to grow fond of and even to like the man you were set to marry. Many mornings had she caught you two having breakfast at his uncle's bakery, sometimes you were laughing, and your hand would rest on his forearm affectionately, rage burned deep inside Isa when she saw you touch him. She tried not to get so upset, but as the minutes ticked on and you laid in her bed in silence, she couldn't stop herself.
"So, you're really going to marry him tomorrow?"
"Don't mention it please."
"Why not? You two seem to be growing close, you seem even happy to marry him."
"Isa," you sat up, giving her a serious look as you spoke. "You know that isn't true."
"Do I?" she glared. "You sure seem happy when you're with him, going on your little breakfast dates and laughing with each other like lovesick little puppies."
Your eyes went wide in shock, you couldn't believe what she was saying to you right now.
"Really?" you scoffed. "You expected me to act sad and cold for our entire engagement? I'm keeping up appearances Isabela-"
"Keeping up appearances?" she laughed dryly. "Is that what you've decided to call it? It sure seems like you're enjoying it to me! You walk around town arm in arm happy as can be, flaunting your engagement for all of Encanto to see, do you even care how much this hurts me?"
"Flaunting my engagement?! Have you forgotten that I never wanted this marriage to begin with?! Don't you dare sit there and act like you're the only one hurting in this situation, like I don't care about you. I can't even believe you're even saying all of this right now. You know I'm only marrying him because my parents-"
"Your parents don't care about you Y/N! Do you honestly think they'd put you through this if they gave a damn about you?! They're just selfish idiots who want you to live their drea-" she froze, knowing she crossed the line. "No, Y/N I didn't mean that."
You were shaking with rage as she spoke, fists clenched at your sides so tightly that blood pooled in your palms. You'd probably have slapped her if she was close enough, but luckily for her she stood at the opposite end of the bed, hands covering her mouth as if that would take it back. All those nights you held her and let her cry, never once had you spoken a word of ill will towards any of her family, you supported her all the way no matter how much it hurt. You expected her to do the same, to understand that you were just filling your role, but she didn't.
"My parents broke their backs for years to get where they are now, to give me the best shot possible at a good life so don't you ever call them selfish again you spoiled little princess," you spat in a gravely, acerbic tone. "Some of us aren't born blessed like you who's never wanted for anything in her entire fucking life. My parents worked for years before I was even born because they love me and if I'm being honest," you walked towards her door as you talked. "I'm glad I got betrothed, it saved me from making a lot of mistakes."
You were taken aback as you opened the door and most of her family was stood outside, Dolores at the front of it all to tell them what she was hearing. Julieta stepped forward, taking your hands and slipping her fingers under your own to stop you from clenching your fists. She pushed a bolita into your mouth before wrapping you up in a tight hug,
"She's just upset right now mi amor, please don't take anything she's saying to heart."
You nodded against her shoulder, breathing in her scent and calming almost instantly as the warm liquid stopped flowing from your hands. You knew she was right, Isa was just hurt and saying things she didn't mean. but that didn't make you any less disappointed, so pulling away from her mother you turned to Isabela once more.
"I'm marrying Joaquin tomorrow, whether you like it or not, so you can show up and support me or just stay away. I never wanted any of this either and regardless of what you may think, I'm just as miserable as I was that first day, but I have to do what must be done for my family. I figured that if anyone would understand, it would be you, but I was wrong." you looked back at her family, "Thank you so much for having me over, but I won't be staying for dinner, I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused."
Everyone shared a soft, understanding look with you before you exited the house and Julieta walked in to scold and comfort her daughter her crushed daughter
--
Isabela woke the next morning feeling absolutely crushed, today was the day and she had completely ruined your final evening as an unmarried person. She spent the morning locked in her room, listening as her family and everyone in town came to life and frantically began preparations for your wedding. She had full intentions to just sulk in her room all day, not feeling like watching you get married for obvious reasons. Her head rang alongside the church bells, and she sat up in her bed, knees pressed up against her chest. You hadn't even asked her to grow the flowers for today, instead opting for an actual florist when she could quite literally conjure any plant known to man. You were probably just trying to save her the pain or maybe you were just so upset with her that you didn't even want to see her flowers today, it stung reguardless. A knock at her door pulled her away from her sulking and when she opened the door, she was greeted with her mothers soft face.
"Good morning corazon, I just came to let you know that we're leaving soon. Will you be joining us?"
"To watch Y/N marry someone else? I don't think so mama," she frowned, hugging herself tightly.
"I understand mi amor," Julieta nodded, reaching for and pulling her daughter into a warm embrace. "I know how hard this all must be for you, but I'm sure they'd love to see you there."
"After yesterday? I highly doubt that," Isa scoffed, guilt rooting itself deep in her loins.
"Isabela," Julieta spoke seriously, cupping her daughters face lightly to make direct eye contact. "The way you feel about this, that terrible heaviness and dread weighing on your soul, they feel that too but absolutely worse. I know you're upset, but you're not the one who's marrying a man you don't love, and you know how dreadful that feeling is. I'm not going to force you to do anything, but I really hope you think about this."
She went from feeling bad, to worse at her mother's words, she knew she was right, she always was. She sat, pouting and bouncing back and forth in her mind as she debated whether or not she should go, then she thought back to her own betrothal. She remembered how horrified she was at the prospect, how utterly helpless she felt and how it sent her into the deepest depression of her life. The nights she stayed up on the very brink of meltdown and how you were the one who pulled her away from the edge every time, you put your own feelings aside just to be there for her. It hit Isabela just how right you were, she was being selfish and childish about this whole situation, but that ended now. It was her turn to be your rock, she just hoped she hadn't had this revelation too late. Leaping from her bed Isabela scrambled to get ready, the bells rang approximately 15 minutes ago, she would be late, but she would be there. She ran out of her house and sprinted towards the church, the streets were so empty that it felt eerie and when she pushed the church doors open, her confidence faltered. Everyone's eyes were on her, but she was looking at you, who despite your argument the night before, was happy to see her. You never looked more beautiful, standing there with his hands in your own in that breathtaking outfit that made her heart flutter, but also made her so fucking sad. She sent you a small, sad smile and took her place in the pew beside her mother, who took her hand and gave her a proud smile.
"Do you, Joaquin take Y/N to be yours?"
"I do."
"And do you, Y/N take Joaquin to be yours?"
You both held your breath, looking at him you realized now that this was your last chance, you desperately wanted to scream no and run into Isabela's arms. She gave you an encouraging smile despite the tears running down her face and that almost did it, but then a sob erupted from your mother. You looked at your parents your father held your weeping mother, his own eyes wet from tears as he watched you. He wasn't even supposed to be alive right now, but against all odds there he was, proud of you to the point of tears. The man who had remained cold and stoic for most of your childhood, who you wouldn't even think had feelings if not for special moments like this. Dread pooled deep inside of you as you decided that you couldn't do it to them, you couldn't shatter every dream they had for you right in front of their eyes. You felt numb, but your mind was made, so you turned back to your future husband and spoke a very clear,
"I do."
Each clap and scream of joy rang in Isabela's ears and sent her spiraling but were loud enough to drown out the sound of her soul shattering. She was among them, cheering even though she wanted to die as you kissed, sealing your marriage. Her head was spinning, and she was positive that she would've passed out if not for her mother looping her arm around her own. The warmth and comfort from her mother's touch kept her grounded and she watched you walk by down the aisle, your own face drenched with tears. You just couldn't bring yourself to meet her gaze, it would hurt too much, it already did and each step you took past her sent a sharp pang to your heart. When you made your way out of the church, most of the chapel followed after you as you'd be celebrating your reception at the Casa Madrigal, but Isa lingered behind.
She sat in the pew until her body went stiff, and the happy atmosphere faded, she sat eyes wide and unblinking. She was utterly hopeless, mourning a dead relationship that never existed to begin with. The weight of the hands that came to rest on her slumped shoulders prompted her to regain her composure and she craned to look up at the faces of her parents. They looked at their heartbroken daughter with soft eyes, fearing that even the harshness of a look could shatter her further and made their way to sit at either side of her. Agustin took his daughters hand and Julieta wrapped her arm around Isabela's shoulders, pulling her to lean against her shoulder. Isabela wrapped herself around her mother's arm and tucked her face into the crook of her neck, gripping her father's hand tightly as a string of sobs echoed through the now empty church.
ALT ENDING (HAPPY)
"Do you, Joaquin take Y/N to be yours?"
"I do."
Your heart was pounding as the pastor spoke, pulverizing itself to dust with every beat against your ribcage. You knew Joaquin could feel how cold your hands were, if you weren't standing right in front of him, he'd probably think you dead and you were starting to believe that that would be a better fate. You were sure that Isabela wasn't coming, she had yet to arrive and although it didn't shock you, it secretly destroyed you inside. You should've just let her grow the flowers for today, you didn't want to cause any unnecessary harm, but at least it would've ensured that you would see her once before you tied the knot.
"And do you, Y/N take Joaquin to be yours?"
You froze, sucking in a deep breath as you realized that this was it, this was your last chance. You wanted to just scream no and run as far from the whole situation as possible, but a whimper forced you to look at your mother. Your parents sat, hands clasped together and crying as they awaited your answer, it made your throat constrict and your stomach went heavy. You had to do this for them, this was all that you were meant to do, the one duty you to fulfil in order to make them proud. You swallowed the thick lump in your windpipe and forced yourself to meet his gaze once more, then the doors swung open, and she was standing there. Your eyes met and it all went out the window, your clarity, the decision that seemed so obvious just seconds ago was lost with her presence. You hoped she'd cause a scene, run up the aisle screaming that you were hers and hers alone, but she didn't; she smiled at you so sadly that it brought tears to your eyes. Ducking her head, the tanned woman slid into the seat beside her mother, proving that you had to make this decision on your own.
"Ms. L/N," the pastor cleared his throat, bringing your attention back to the matter at hand.
You looked at Joaquin and the rest of your life flashed before your eyes, you cringed at the thought of consummating your marriage, of starting a family and pretending to be happy. The thought of having to look at Isabela every day for the rest of your life and wonder what could have been made your insides twist. Taking one deep breath in, you took a last look at your parents, who were quite literally at the edge of their seat as they awaited your response. Then you looked at Isa, who stared wide eyed with her mouth dropped open slightly, she knew you better than anyone in the world.
"I don't...I can't."
The loud, scandalized gasp that spread across the guests didn't faze you, but Joaquin's pained expression made guilt pool in your stomach. You could feel your parents gaze burning a hole into the back, but you straightened your posture and squeezed his hands.
"I'm so sorry Joaquin, but I can't go through with this," you started softly. "You're an amazing man with so much love and joy to offer, so I can't put you through a loveless marriage. You deserve to be with someone who provide the same love they're given, but that can never be me and I'm sorry that I had to hurt so many people before I realized that."
You lowered his hands gently before letting them drop to his sides and turning to face the guests who stared at you in shock. You offered a small, apologetic smile, bowing your head as your walked down the aisle and out of the church without another word. You pretended that the mortified look on your parent's face didn't break you, keeping your eyes trained on the floor with that same small smile on your face. No one dared to move, they all sat there stunned, even Isabela couldn't move until the church doors opened and closed once more. As your parents rushed over to Joaquin and his parents, Isa rushed out to you,
"Hey!" she shouted after you.
You only stopped, not turning to meet her eyes as her footsteps became louder behind you. She only realized the tears that wet your face when she stopped in front of you, leaning forward she pressed her forehead against yours, allowing you time to back away if you weren't comfortable. She swiped your tears away with the pad of her thumb gently,
"Don't cry mi flor," she whispered, peppering kisses alone your tear tracks and calming you effectively. "I'm the selfish idiot and I'm so sorry for not being there when you needed me. I'm so proud of you Y/N."
You could only drop your head onto her shoulder as she praised you and apologized, holding her as close as you could. You could only find comfort in her and your grip only tightened as the church doors opened, you knew it was them just by the sound of your footsteps. Isabela stepped between you and your parents as they approached, your heart dropped at the sight of them. They looked confused and angry; you were ready for them to rip into you at any moment, but the silence was far worse than any infuriated words they could hurl your way.
"Senor, senora I know you may be angry," the flower powered woman tried to explain. "But please just hear her-"
"I'm sorry," you cried. "I know that this is all you wanted from me, all I had to do to make you guys proud and I messed that up, but I couldn't do it. I don't love Joaquin and the thought of marrying him when my heart belongs to another," you stepped beside the tanned woman, taking her hand gently and eliciting another wide eyed look from your parents. "Isabela is the only woman I've ever loved, and I should've said something sooner, I'm so sorry for letting you down but-"
You stopped, mouth hanging open in shock as your mother surged forward to wrap you up in a tight hug.
"We are proud of you mi amor, we always have been," she whispered in your ear. "I'm sorry we let you believe that this was the only way to earn our approval, all we've ever wanted for you was happiness," she cupped Isa's cheek. "If you are who makes them happy, then you are perfect for us."
You looked past your her and at your father, who looked at you with the same, indifferent stare he always looked at you with. You knew that you humiliated them, and it was very possible that he'd never forgive you, but he finally nodded in agreement after moments of intense eye contact. A weight came off your shoulders and you instantly felt lighter, squeezing Isa's hand tightly as your parents told you to go home, they'd handle the aftermath. So, hand in hand, the pair of you walked back to your place and collapsed into your bed, another tense silence fell over the two of you before Isabela finally spoke up.
"I understand if you're still upset with me, I was way out of line for talking about them the way I did and if you want me to leave you alone for a while, I will-"
You were straddling her before she could finish, and her breath caught in her throat at the sight of you, on top of her in that goddamn outfit. She sighed into your mouth when you kissed her, and her hands came to rest on the back of your neck, this kiss was different from the first one you shared. It was sweet and although slow, extremely passionate, her tongue swiped at your bottom lip and moved against your own as you allowed her entrance. It wasn't urgent or rough, there was no clashing of teeth or tears to sour your moment and you laughed at her dreamy expression when you pulled away.
"You're forgiven," you hummed, rolling off of her and resting your head in her neck. "But if you ever say anything like that about them again, I promise you'll find a rose where the son doesn't shine."
She giggled, pulling the blanket up over you both and settling in for a much needed nap, these past few months drained you emotionally and a stress free nap was welcome. You waited a few days before asking Isabela to be your girlfriend, she was obviously ecstatic, practically squealing as she said yes. Finally, after months of living the worst months of her existence, the life of her dreams that Tio Bruno promised seemed to be falling right into place.
--
I really couldn't choose between a happy or sad ending, so I did both lmao! Choose your own ending, or hurt and heal yourself lol. Thank you all so much for your amazing requests, my inbox is closed right now, but I'm looking forward to writing the ones already in there ♡
Have a great day/night! ♡
