I enjoyed reading both Lewis and Kevin's POVs on this matter. I've always held the belief that Jos should distance himself from Max's career. While he may be the reason for Max's success, the things he had his little boy go to through to feed his ego and achieve his own dreams through him shouldn’t be all forgotten. Congratulations on your championship, Jos! Now, step back and let Max make his own decisions.

I sense that Lewis hinted at a similar sentiment in his article. It seems like he thinks just like many of us. This reaffirms that the one thing we will all agree on is our disapproval of Jos Verstappen and how he treated Max growing up.

I’m still glad that Max seems to be at peace, at least from the outside, with the whole thing about his dad. This shows that he didn’t let it break him but it fuelled him and shaped him to be the champion that he is today. But, i can’t help to think of that little boy with freezing hands trying to drive his cart. Or the same little boy left alone in that gas station and hate Jos more every time.

i think, generally speaking, that jos' comment has blown up a little bit out of proportion. this man is not the most tactical man and has been impulsive before and it's not always worked out well. so, i don't understand why everyone's taking this as the biggest truth for max's career and not with a grain of salt.

alongside that, while jos may be max's dad, he is not max's manager. that's raymond vermeulen and always has been. so, sure, jos has influence, but i think ultimately max would listen to raymond more than jos.

so, yeah 'now step back and let max make his own decisions' jos is doing that. sure, jos is very involved and often at races, but he's not max's manager, hasn't been in at least a decade. he's got his opinions, but i'm sure, as lewis said in the article that you linked, that max is a grown adult and a champion who can make his own decisions.

and while i understand your mention of the stories max has told.... trauma works in weird ways. kids are incredibly resilient. when we hear stories like these we might go oh no! that's so traumatising! but... maybe it wasn't for max. not to say it's good, not at all! but maybe it didn't affect him as much since he knew no different and because he realised jos' greater goal and worked for that as well. either way, we know very little about max personally and how much these things have affected him. and we don't know if jos has a chokehold on max. i, personally, doubt it. i think max knows his father's role as being a father now, especially after max's first championship, and max can take his father's advice where he sees fit, and he can set it aside just as easily.
