sometimes i see a person who’s very upset about something a character did, like, hmm, wwx and wq’s illegal surgery on a non-consenting patient or jgy (insert a thing jgy did in any of the adaptations), or jc’s anti-demonic cultivation campaign, how can you ignore that!, and i’m like ok,

but consider: this is not a modern drama, there was a magic war going on, and the people who suffered were nameless background characters

#like even giving them a sad story and a little moment with their spouse and kids is SOME attempt at making me care for them #but if they only appear 2 minutes before dying well. i hope the extras at least got enough money for a nice dinner for that #and particularly the jc and jgy cases are like... i did not read the novel but i have a vague feeling that some things fans take as gospel #were in fact introduced like so: 'they say that during (time) (character) did (thing)!' and like. WELL #i both like and dislike the 'how evil was jgy during his stay in qishan' debate. because. 'oh he killed and was a chief torturer (?)#this is Evil'#in fact scratch that make it jgy's whole existence because. well these things are objectively bad things to do but i feel there's this #expectation of characters to choose death over doing bad things.
