In any other world, Rafe should not be at Wixhaven. Born in a lower class non-magical family, or at least what he assumed was non-magical, he had always figured he was destined for mediocrity at best. His father was out of the picture before he was even born, and his mother, with two kids, was... not meant to be a mother. Her chronic drug abuse made caring for herself, let alone her family next to impossible. Needless to say, him and his brother entered the foster care system at a very young age, and if it wasn't for the letter inviting him to magic school, he probably would have been stuck.

Being introduced to magic as a kid was what fundamentally changed Rafe's life. He'd always been surprisingly bright given his roots. School came so easy to him it actually bored him, so when he was asked to leave a mundane school to become a wizard, it was as if he'd won the lottery.

As easy and normal school had been for Rafe, magic school seemed to come just as naturally. The difference was, he found himself actually passionate about it. Learning about charms, potions, spells to transform objects and even himself into other things, was fascinating to him. Granted, he did garner a reputation at his school for abusing his affinity for spells. Sneaking off campus, sneaking into other boys' dormitories passed curfew, breaking into other houses common rooms to prank them, figuring out how to concoct potions to inebriate you without needing to use or obtain alcohol. Yeah he was incredibly smart, but had knack for being problematically chaotic. It had gotten to the point where he'd almost gotten himself and his friends expelled from school for trying to steal an artifact from his headmaster's office. Luckily he was given grace by the professor who caught him, and was only punished through chores and school labor.

As great as magic school was, it was only nine months out of the year. Every summer, after school, Rafe was forced to go back to the mundane world, and since he had no blood family to take him, he was always forced into another foster home, another family to "care" for him while he waited to return to his real life. As either a blessing or a curse, he very rarely returned to the same home twice, and as time went by it only solidified his attachment to the people he knew in the wizarding world. Even still, he tried to hide the fact that he was essentially homeless from his friends at school. He didn't want them to pity him, or to think that magic was his only means of survival. Still, despite his insecurities, his friends from school were his family, his brother was his everything, and as time went on he only felt connected to those people even more.

Graduating from school was not so much of an accomplishment as it was a right of passage. He was a wizard as far as society saw it, but he wanted more. He needed more. He couldn't go back to the mundane world knowing what he knew. When he was given the opportunity to go further with his education, when Wixhaven invited him to study, of course he accepted on the spot. The first few years have been a blur for him. He's still found a love for spell work, for arcane deconstruction and then reconstruction. That being said, he's still as chaotic as he was as a teenager at times, and just wants to have fun.

when someone mentions the diaz family, it's nothing but good things for that family. of course it would be. they were the poster family of what the american dream was all about. the family immigrated from dominican republic in the early 80s, with a hundred dollars in their pockets and but a dream. the dream for a better life. jaime and marisol had always dreamt of living their lives in the united states, but when manuel was born, they had another dream now, to give manny the best life they could, and that was to move them to a country where anything was possible.

and that's what manuel managed to do. growing up from his humble beginnings and learn that with a bit of hard work and dedication, any dream was possible. and growing up with someone who had everything, he felt like he needed to keep up with all the things he managed. marcus was always the charming one, the trendy one, the king of the school. and manny always felt like he was just his lackey more than he was a friend. but that didn't stop manny for pursuing things he enjoyed, even if marcus wasn't into it, from being the best in whatever sport he was in, to getting a solo in the school and church choir, to ending up getting the lead role in every musical and play he had auditioned for during school. he was dream catcher, a perfectionist, an idealistic person.

the struggles came when he applied to schools, and finding out that he was an immigrant himself. for most of his life he was told that he was born in the bronx. manuel's whole life was in the states, in new york city, and discovering that he couldn't legally get a job or apply for student loans because he was not from here took a toll on his whole identity. no one knew else knew about this, not even marcus, except for esteban chamberlain, marcus' father.

after the news, he didn't stop though. he kept working hard, getting accepted to one of the best schools. his eyes were set on lawrence university. it was the most prestigious school that he knew he needed to be part of, but he knew that he would struggle to afford the school. luckily he got some money with some scholarships, but it wasn't enough. he had enough for a year, thanks to his parents saving up, but he still needed three more years worth of tuition, so he had to find some way to get the money. and so he found himself escorting, and then eventually finding a man that would eventually helped.

he managed to do all this under the books, until marcus discovered the truth. he knew about his status, he found out that he was doing escorting his freshman and sophomore year, and he knew all about the guy that he was sleeping with for money. their relationship had strained, that manny was tired of feeling less, and the night he died he had an argument with him. after his death, it was him that took over the reigns. he was next in line for valedictorian, he was given so much love after marcus died, seeing as he was the closest with him. and now he was the new it boy. it was cool, but the last thing he wanted was for people thinking he had something to do with his death.

childhood friend // competition - marcus chamberlain was always on top. even though he was a close friend to him, manny felt like he was always under his shadow, never shining because he would always take the spotlight from him. and it didn't change when they went to college. but now that he has passed away, he is getting the spotlight that he deserved. but the question is, did manny have anything to do with his death?

childhood friend, found family - someone who genuinely felt a connection with. he even had a little crush on, but never really did anything because of marcus. he hopes now that marcus is gone, things with them could evolve into something stronger.

ride or die - this is a friend he had met at lawerence university, the one that became his true best friend, unlike his former frenemy. how they met was through an event, and then ended up having a few classes together as well, but they ended up hanging outside of school events and classes, which made their relationship even tighter.

current hookup/fwb - it's not serious, but just someone he has fun with. it could go either two ways, feelings may get involved and manny runs or it continues to just be fwb type deal.

jude lived with his mother and older sister happily; they had less than not much at times, but they had each other which was all that mattered.

Dane was conceived more than 130 years ago when a desperate woman unable to have a child struck a deal with the Dark Lord, promising him her soul and that of her child in exchange for a perfect moment together. His family has lived in Hidehill for generations, and for generations they have been successful, upstanding members of society. The first time they experience a brush with tragedy was years ago when his mother was trapped in a fire and eventually rescued by the men and women who would be rightfully claimed as heroes for their actions. It was Jasiel, known as El or Jas that was forever changed because of this, and he claimed from a young age that it was his end goal. He wanted to make a difference, to save people, even if he risked himself doing it.

His mother was always proud of the fact that her youngest son was so touched by her experience that he always stuck to that dream. That didn’t mean, that she was proud of the mistakes he made on the way. His father thought that every one of those mistakes was a tally, not only a black mark on his record but a black mark on the name and reputation their family had in town. Everyone excused the majority of his tom foolery as just that, except his father who never let him forget any time he made even the simplest mistake.

Looking back he realized his father wanted to live his dreams through El. It was why’d he’d pushed for him to play football, but then was kicked from the team for some stunt he’d pulled right before homecoming. It was deserved, he knew that, but he also never took the sport too seriously. He liked it, and he was good at it, but he wasn’t gifted at it like some of the others around. In his eyes, his removal from the team made room for those who truly shone, to do that without his ass getting in the way.

This was the straw that broke the camels back, in the family. His father enlisted him in military school the next semester, and he was pulled from school without much of a word. His choice in the matter was taken away, and he was transported from the only home he’d ever known, to a place that was not only foreign, but one that wanted to take his personality and his free will from him. He came back on breaks and for away weekends, but it wasn’t the same when his father seemed intent on hiding his “mistake of a son”.

Eventually, he turned 18 and returned on his own, even if he had to get his own place and work his way through school online, while busting his ass to try and maintain some kind of balance. He eventually got his BA even if it wasn’t a requirement for the job, and started with the local fire department three years ago. It was then he was able to afford the house in hagfield, thanks to a healthy sign on bonus and money he had saved through working at some of the local businesses and a very lucrative stint on onlyfans. Ever since he turned 18, he’s been cut off from his family, so they didn’t lift a finger to help in his sucres, and he’s proud of himself for that.

Since the disappearances and murders started, he has thought about reaching back out to his parents to try and fix things, but can’t bring himself to do it. Instead, he focuses on the found family he’s built along the way, and friends that feel a hell of a lot more supportive than his own blood ever did.
