One thing that is really tragic about Anakin Skywalker as a character is how in his entire life, he was never free. He never experienced any sort of freedom as an individual. First he lived as a slave with his mother, then he lived as a slave of sorts to the Jedi Order and their Chosen One prophecy and finally he lived as a slave to the Emperor, who manipulated and used him to do his bidding even before he was in the helmet. One could also argue that Anakin was also a slave to his own heart and emotions. The Emperor befriended Anakin and embraced him as a surrogate son before using his love for Padmé to seduce him to the Dark Side. In fact, it was only the love that he was shown by Luke that made Anakin finally fulfill the prophecy and destroy him and Palpatine.
In retrospect, perhaps we are all slaves to our hearts.

When I read great literature, great drama, speeches, or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language.
