𝑻𝑰𝑻𝑨𝑵𝑰𝑪 (𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟕)
1500 people went into the sea when Titanic sank from under us. There were 20 boats floating nearby and only one came back. One. Six were saved from the water, myself included. Six out of 1500. Afterward, the 700 people in the boats had nothing to, but wait, wait to die, wait to live, wait for an absolution that would never come.

After watching the deleted scenes of Titanic (1997) again on YouTube last night, there’s one little scene that I wish they would have kept in because maybe it would have ended that stupid debate about Jack and the goddamn door.
Like Jack tries to get on and the door TIPS OVER, and in the deleted scene in question, a man tries to approach the door asking for a chance on it, but Jack stops him because it can only support Rose’s weight. And before Jack moves to the front, he kind of nods and accepts his fate. From the moment that the ship hit the iceberg, Jack’s goal is making sure Rose gets out alive. He doesn’t care about himself. Rose is his main priority.
And the whole “they could have kept switching” thing needs to end as well because Jack never would have let Rose get back in that water. He accepted his fate, and it’s high time the rest of you did, as well.
Also, Jack surviving would have destroyed the point of the movie which is to make each day of your life count because you never know how long you have and how your life can be taken in a blink of an eye.
And if you ever need a lesson in irony, it’s Rose saying she’ll never let go of the promise Jack made her swear to just moments before, while needing to let go of him.
And those are my Titanic thoughts of the night.

September 1, 1998: Titanic (1997) is released on VHS.
Like its theatrical release, the film was a huge seller on home video, selling over 25 million copies in the US in its first three months and eventually becoming the best-selling live action VHS title of all time.

So, I've been feeling another mosaic post coming on, another cluster of things that have been associated together and weighing on my mind.
I finally watched Titanic, several decades late after being a teen girl who was not allowed to see it in theaters like all my peers.
It's an amazing movie, although very much of it's era (complementary). It's so very much a mass appeal movie, with a modern frame story and spectacle and special effects up the wazoo. If the length isn't too much for you, I would recommend it in general. I understand why James Cameron is given so much rope after it. Kinda amazed that all the teen girls crazy for Leonardo DeCaprio and gushing about what a great actor he was turned out to be right.

But, at it's heart, Titanic is a disaster film. A ton of the characters Are going to die and that's the point of making the audience get to know them and care about them.
Tumblr media
And as a disaster film, it's about nature and resource/time constraints and human error and how sometimes, even being a wealthy asshat who has no conscience won't save you.
Somehow, James Cameron got a lot of ladies creaming their panties for a movie about suicidal ideation, class, ageing, memories, and death.

Can I just say Ioan Gruffudd is incredible. An INCREDIBLE actor! He literally got less than 5 minutes of screen time in Titanic. And the amount of pain, grief and guilt he was able to convey in shots that lasted LITERALLY FOR SECONDS.

Okay I don’t want to be an edge lord about it or anything but I could not be paid to care about some disgustingly rich glory chasing weirdos stuck at the bottom of the ocean. And the fact that cnn has an oxygen countdown is just about the most absurd and bewildering marker of just how insane this country is. How much US government money is going to this effort too?
