Author Notes: So this is for @briarvalleyarchives "Summer Shoreline" event! Despite having only been to the beach like once this fic came together so fast. I wasn't listening to anything specific while writing this fic, but I did listen to "By The End of The Night" by Ellie Goulding while editing/polishing so that might have leaked into the fic. Some short cute scenarios of the octavinelle trio relating to magicam! (Jade,Floyd, Azul x reader with no specified gender)

-Jade runs one of those foraging accounts you see on YouTube where he shows people different types of plants/fungus. He gets especially excited talking about his collection and how he tends to his plant babies. Most viewers first started watching him for his voice, hands, and appearance but stayed for the information. One day he asked you for some help with transporting a pot/harvesting a rare plant and got you on video. You didn't think much of it at first and just went on with your day, but when he uploaded the video his fans were all commenting, asking who you were because they liked your voice and found it rare to see someone other than Floyd in the videos. He responded in the next video by saying “That’s a secret~” and people start speculating and talking about who you might be. You end up making more appearances but your face is never shown as Jade wants to keep his beloved all to himself~ and well, he is amused at his fans reactions and want to keep them guessing ;)

-Floyd is canonly very caught up on the latest trends and fashion. He has a big wardrobe and buys alot of different clothing items and accessories. It definitely costs a lot of money so Azul suggested for him to be one of those influencers that post their fits in order to get brand deals to support that lifestyle. Floyd agreed and is actually interested in doing it consistently, he eventually gets pretty popular on magicam because of that and gets invited to a high end luxury brands fashion show. He initially didn't want to go but found out that you liked the brand so he took the offer and brought you with him. You guys got dressed in matching outfits and went to the show together and go viral for your matching outfits and how compatible you both look. Floyd especially for his eyes, tallness, and unique appearance but you also looked very gorgeous alongside him, had great chemistry. Brands end up sending Floyd loads of clothes for upcoming couple lines and you guys ended up with lots of pictures and some fond memories together~

-As you spend more time in NRC you and Azul have gotten closer, chatting often during passing period and collaborating on projects. He was initially cautious of you and did not think you would become such a special and important person to him. He loves your kind words and feels as if you really understand him, he is still scared and a bit hesitant on telling you about his past. Will you decide to turn away from him like the others or will you accept him for who he is? He hopes for the latter...regardless, he wanted to show his gratitude for you by taking you out on a date to watch that one movie you've been excited about recently. You guys plan it out and go to to the theaters together, snacking on popcorn while giggling together at the funny scenes. As you guys walk out, hand in hand, a few people see you guys and end up snapping a pic of you two together because you guys just look so good! None of you realized because you were both enjoying the moment and excited to talk about your thoughts on the ending. Once you guys got back to the dorms you were bombarded with messages from Cater talking about how you and Azul went viral online. You were shocked and went to notify Azul who also just heard the news, both of you ended up reading through the trending tags and comments. You both blushed at the compliments you guys got, such as:

- there's a 5050 chance he will confess his feelings. Like I strongly believe it depends on the situation and his mood, but he may just blurt out his feelings or simply not say a word. I guess you'll just have to wait and find out

- since valentine's approaching, let's talk about that 😌

-> you all spend it together no matter what, I really think he's one of those romantic people. He may not seem like it, but he's actually lovely and wants to experience proper love, which in return means a really nice valentine's 10/10

- think all your declarations of love are just a joke at first (it was the only way you could get through his thick skull 😡), untill something major happened and he realized it would've been too far for just a prank and suddenly you all are dating and lovey dovey (references to my Azul fic)

- dates with him are so fun! He brings you to all this great places and you enjoy it so much it's impossible. Most of them are near bodies of water, but not all for sure. That said, they tend to be more scenic. Like, he doesn't really like going to cinemas or places with many people, so they're usually somewhat private and most of the time it's just the two of you (can't say you hate it)

- that said, he will try to bring contracts into your relationship (it's who he is 😔), so expect to receive offers from him which are like:

1. Go on a date this Thursday, in return you will receive a kiss

2. Hold his hand outside, the two of you will have lunch together then

3. 1 kiss = 1 minute of hugging

I don't make the rules 💁 he does

- Azul has this reputation of like, an emotionless contract guy that will destroy your life but he's just so silly goofy. I strongly believe he just has like this thing where he says things in the spur of the moment and it's the funniest thing you've ever heard but nobody ever returns to that and you're just dying (he is very proud of himself, laugh more at his attempts at jokes)

- he doesn't really buy you that many gifts, but he does from time to time and it's the most Doki Doki thing. Like, if he gets you a present it's so thought over and through and you're guaranteed to love so much you want to burst (another ego boost for him)

- you in the other hand, give him stuff all the time. You had some international coins you have collected during your time back in your world, and since they're no use to you (and most of them won't buy you anything because it's like 10-20 cents), you give them to him everytime one of them pops up. His expression is priceless, it's like a child on Christmas Day (expect it's Azul and he is not a child on Christmas Day). Bring him more useless shit and he will treasure (he is secretly a hoarder)

- isn't really into PDA, mostly because it shows a weakness of his, so you just have to sneak kisses and then bolt away because he will chase you (or allow Floyd to chase you, but safely) and you're scared but he's low-key into that so-

- you two might hold hands while walking together, although his get sweaty because he's so nervous from the situation and then he's nervous because he's nervous and his hands are sweating and you won't like and think he's gross and- (let him know it's just his paranoia)

- so many words yet I've written nothing 😮‍💨

- ANYWAY! No late night cuddle sessions because bro sleeps like a log, I'm talking *snore* mimimimi 😐☝️

Everyone will know you're Azul's friend and that they should keep their distance unless they want a wild Floyd on their tail ☺️

OH! I think he also may be uncomfy around blood. Trey wouldn't handle it, but I feel like Azul will just be visibly uncomfortable and disgusted. He won't pass out, tho... I think

- he's almost perfect but he likes mushrooms 😰 like genuinely is actively searching for them to eat??? Why does he do that?

- expect to suddenly have like half of your diet be mushrooms, of which only like 60% is of known origin and kind. Does he want to poison you? I guess we'll never know 😗🫶

- I have a feeling Jade wouldn't walk with you to school, idk why. It's just like, he doesn't give me the vibes, so you two are not walking to school. That's it.

- he does protect you, tho. And you really have a feeling that he doesn't, because many of the problems you run into are caused by him for his own amusement (which also includes being your knight in shining armor)

"No, the last time I had attempted to cut your finger off with craft scissors was a month ago," bro that doesn't make it better 😰 (fun fact: you probably won't be able to cut off your finger but you can easily cut skin!)

- that said, for the longest time you didn't feel like you two were in a relationship, because almost nothing changed about him. Yes, he gave you kisses and held your hand sometimes, but that was it. It took Azul to tell you that it's because he basically had a crush on you from the start and he doesn't act the way he does around you around anyone else. After that, you started noticing that Azul was telling the truth, and he does in fact act different around you than anyone else. It made you so happy that Jade noticed and he was very confused

- I believe you had to be the one to confess. But the worst part? You didn't know he liked you Bach until that confession. You might be confused if you don't think like me, but I'll try my best to explain. So. What I mean is that Jade did have a crush on you, but he hid it very well (from you at least, since Azul and Floyd noticed right away - which was just because they had known him for years). He was doing that while trying to decide whether to pursue you romantically or not, so it lasted a few weeks. Once he decided that he actually likes you fr and what's to have something special going on with you, he's decided to make a move. Now, he didn't make it obvious, no no no! He started teasing you, and flirting in a way that wasn't straight up, but made you rethink life and become frustrated because he was flirting one second and then the next he was acting like nothing happened? Yeah, no! So once it became too much for you (one day while you guys were hanging out and it happened again) you angrily yelled your confession into his face (you called him a little shit for playing with your heart, and you were so angry in the moment you didn't even care about the answer [in the moment]). He had that smug face as he told you he feels the same way and also likes you, that made you even more angry - basically your first ever kiss was a very angry one initiated by you.

- he doesn't buy you many gifts, not because he's like Azul, but he believes they should be special because if you received a gift everytime you saw each other, you would appreciate them less and less. That's why you only receive mushrooms from him (it's on you what you do with them - he told you [what will you do? Cuz I would throw them out]) regularly. He does bring flowers to dates for you, though, because he heard that it's a human custom, so he tries to appeal to you

- which brings me, the inter-relationship situation would be the best with Jade. Because he's so smart, he spent a lot of time looking into humans, and you're like a cool person so you looked into merfolk once you became friends with the bubble guppies, so it's like very balanced. You communicate well about matters, and it's just so? Nice??? There's still some misunderstandings here and there, but it's definitely very little! (And both of you sometimes forget, since you lived with only your customs for most of your lives, but since the situation is the same, there's the mutual understanding and all is well at the end of the day)

- you quickly become the couple everyone's talking about at NRC (not gonna lie, it feeds your ego as much as it does Jade's, so you two just feel powerful)

- dates with him are usually outside activities, but like calm. Walks, sightseeing (since none of you are from around the NRC location originally), HIKING, and sometimes you swim together. You enjoy them greatly, because Jade just looks so happy, and that's all you care about

- he still pulls pranks on you and treats you like a test subject. But it is slightly less than before and most of them are harmless! Which is good! You don't fear for your life as much anymore

- platonic: would be different from dating. He still would protect you, and do many of the things he does in a relationship. BUT. He will treat you like shit also. It's not the nice balance anymore, you fear for your life. Everyday is a challenge with Jade around and you sometimes question if he actually likes you. He does, since he doesn't necessarily 🙄 want you dead, okay?

- I love Floyd but I have a hard time writing for him, so I want to apologize if it isn't as great 😔

- now, it is no secret Floyd doesn't think much. Not in a "he's stupid" way, but in a "speaks whatever is on his mind" way. If he was in the Saiki K. universe, Saiki would destroy his existence.

-> this causes a lot of problems, both relationship and the normal kind

-> you kind of learn to live with it and his nature, but you're always surprised, still

- I strongly believe he also surprises himself sometimes. Like, he would say something and you would see it on his face, this like flash of surprise at what he said, but the same could be said about his actions.

- he confessed the first. He basically liked you right away, because you were squeezable, and liked the bubble guppies, which was enough for him at the beginning

-> his confession was just him one day talking to his brother, when Jade said something about them going somewhere and Floyd got upset because he didn't want to go and he said something like: "But I can't leave the shrimpy here alone, who would shower them with love?" and he would look at you and go: "I want to be your lover, shrimpy," and you can't say no, because he wasn't asking 🥲

- that is how most of your relationship is. Floyd doesn't ask, he makes orders and commands

- many people are curios about your relationship and keep asking you questions, since it baffled them. When Floyd found out that people were stopping you in his just to ask stupid question, he made it a rule to walk with you down the halls (he did do even before, but not at all times) and you were never approached again 🤌

- the relationship, though, is very fresh but you can never expect what will happen. Floyd has scary mood swings, but you both have made a set rules to follow when it happens. Like if he gets too angry and you're actually scared, you are allowed to simply leave and protect yourself (he will be angry about it in the moment but once he's feeling better he will praise you for acting as you should've have), it is stressful, but you can live with it.

- he remembers the craziest things, especially if it has something to do with you (but also other random things). Your birthday, of course, but even if you two are talking and you just mentioned the tiniest bit of like, your previous life lore EVEN if it's was a mistake because you just blurted something you remembered in the moment, he will remember. "Didn't you say you had a friend who liked this?" "Oh, weren't you 5 the last time you had this?" "Now that was the name of your first pet, this one is: ". And it's scary! How does he have such good memory? I don't know!

- he gets distracted easily, so you have to get used to it

- he does these things... Zoomies. Like dogs? You know when dogs have this burst of energy and they start running and jumping around? Yeah, Floyd does that. He just starts circling you, or runs after someone he was and wants to bully (you're just glad it isn't you, tbh)

- dates with him, though, are very lazy. He does make awesome plans, but you two meet up, he tells you he doesn't feel like it anymore and so you just end up lazing around and cuddling, then he gets angry so he talks to you about his anger, then he gets sleepy so you nap, then he gets excited so he shows you the things he has in his room or at the dorm and then he suddenly wants you to go home

- I promise he actually loves you.

- you guys say "I love you" to each other a lot. Even though some observers will say you overuse the phrase, both of you know that no matter where or how you say it, it holds the same meaning as it does during intimate and weak moments. You guys love each other, why not let the other person know?

- platonic: basically the relationship but without the kisses and "I love you"s. I believe he's a cuddler and a hand holder even without any romantic feelings.

- you two do hang out all the time, though. Like at this point you might as well be living together with how much you're seen with one another. Frequently bought together. If someone invites you somewhere, they have to specify that it's without Floyd otherwise he will show up, same vice versa

- the relationship, though, is very cute and I support it greatly 😌🙏

Late Night Swimming - Jade

Author Notes: Happy Mermay Twst fandom! I actually didn't know if I was going to get this fic done but I managed to get it written. I wasn't able to right octopus Azul though, despite my best efforts. Reader is gender-neutral in this one and, since its mermay, Jade and Floyd both make an appearance in their merform. I hope you enjoy!

You didn’t know why you’d agreed to come to Octavinelle in the middle of the night at Floyd’s request.

Simply put, his reasoning for having you come here after dark couldn’t be anything good. And yet you strolled through the darkened hallways, following the directions that Floyd had sent you via text, up some stairs, and over to a dimly lit area that led to the opening of a massive fish tank.

You supposed it did make sense for a dorm inspired by a sea witch to have an aquarium. It was just odd that Floyd wanted you to look into said tank from the very top. But as you peered into the watery depths, you saw something that made your breath catch in your throat.

It was large and faintly glowing as it coiled through the water in a distinctly unfishlike manner. As soon as you inhaled slightly, taken aback by the sight of it slipping through the water like there was nothing there to impede its motions, the creature froze.

You twitched, your fingers curling on the edge of the tank as you watched it slowly twist around until a single glowing yellow eye was latched onto your form.

The creature was motionless for that brief moment, staring up at you as you stared back down at it. Half-mesmerized by the foreign entity and half-apprehensive as to what it might be.

But you didn’t get to ponder what it might be for long, though, since it shot up towards you. Speeding through the water so fast that you barely even had a chance to fall backwards in surprise.

It surfaced, sending water spraying into the air and splattering you where you sat on the ground, having fallen back and away from the tank's edge.

But you recognized it—or rather, him—now.

"Jade," You exhaled his name more than said it as you stared up at the merman who was now staring down at you, his eyes wide in surprise that you seldom saw on his face.

"You... you startled me," You at last managed as you continued to gaze at the faintly glowing marks on his arms and face.

"My apologies," Jade blinked, at last seeming to recover from having discovered your presence here as a smooth smile flickered onto his face.

“I do have to say you surprised me as well, though. What are you doing here, Prefect?” He relaxed with a smile, letting himself sink back into the water and lean against the tank's edge as you sat up.

“Floyd told me to come and sent some directions to this tank.… He wouldn’t really say why he wanted me to come, though. He only said to bring a towel.” You looked down at the cloth in your hands, pondering why Floyd had wanted you to come here while his brother was swimming.

It couldn’t be that he’d wanted you to see Jade in his mer-form. You’d already seen that back during the Ramshackle ordeal when you were trying to swipe that photo from the museum. Though you admittedly hadn’t exactly studied him in detail, but you doubted that was what Floyd wanted either.

Jade was silent, staring at you with an unreadable expression before he pulled himself up a little bit more against the edge of the tank, his eyes flicking from the towel and then back to you.

“Would you like to swim then? I imagine that’s why Floyd directed you to come here with a towel,” He tilted his head as he spoke, and you felt yourself going still.

Swimming… With Jade… In the middle of the night.

“I don’t know… Maybe he just wanted me to bring you a towel. It’s not like he told me to dress for swimming after all,” You shifted awkwardly as you gently deflected away from Jade’s suggestion, which only made the young merman smile with poorly concealed amusement.

But then, knowing Jade, if it was poorly concealed, he wasn’t really trying to hide his amusement, and your excuse had been rather…lacking.

“But you don’t have a swimsuit, do you? After all, the school doesn’t provide one, and you said that you came into this world with only the clothes on your back.”

You didn’t know if you were relieved that he hadn’t bothered questioning your excuse or if you wished he’d done that instead of pointing out one of the many holes that it had. Either way, you had no words to reply to him with. He was right, and his reasoning did provide a good explanation for Floyd’s strange request.

So you just continued to stare at him silently as his smile grew more and more amused the longer the silence lingered until he at last held out his hand, “Come, I assure you that everything will be fine. After all, Floyd will probably join us before long since he invited you.”

Jade gave a slight chuckle before continuing, “I imagine he’ll make you get into the water when he comes, so you may as well enjoy yourself till then.”

Your gaze flickered between him, his hand, the water, and then back to his hand before you at last reached your decision.

Because Jade was, yet again, right. You could get into the water now, while you had the choice, or you could wait until Floyd got here and made you get in.

You sat the towel aside and shrugged out of your jacket, pausing only to glance Jade’s way, “Will I, uh, be able to borrow some clothes from someone to go home in?”

His eyes glimmered with amusement in the dim lighting, his yellow eye still glowing slightly as he nodded, “Certainly. I imagine Azul’s clothes will fit well enough for you to be able to make it home.”

You nodded, swallowing as you hesitated before slipping your hand into his far larger, wet one.

You didn’t know how you’d forgotten how much the Leech twins grew when they switched forms, but even just the difference in your hand size was the perfect reminder as you stood and he helped you carefully start to slip into the water.

“Have you considered installing steps?” You wobbled slightly on the tank's slippery edge before letting out a tiny shriek as you lost your balance and tumbled over into the aquarium.

You splashed down into the cold water, but Jade caught you easily. Letting out a chuckle as he wrapped his cold, wet, and slightly slimy arm around you.

You stopped splashing around like a panicked bird and slowly began adjusting to the water, trembling slightly from the change in temperature.

“No, it isn’t really a problem for us since we usually just jump in and transform all at once,” He was smiling down at you as you clung to his shoulders for a brief moment before realizing what you were doing.

You hastily let go of him and swam backwards, placing distance between yourself and the merman, who still wore that infuriatingly amused expression.

“Do let me know if you start to tire. We can’t have you getting worn out before Floyd gets here. He’d be so disappointed,” Jade’s hand rested against his chin in his signature pose as he finally let himself grin fully. Apparently comfortable enough to drop his butler facade and show off his incredibly sharp teeth.

But then you supposed you were fully in his territory right now.

Perhaps it was decisions such as these that made your companions worry about you and fuss about your occasionally risky decisions. But, in truth, you really didn’t feel like you were in any danger at the moment.

In fact, you felt perfectly safe. While Jade was a complete and total fart, you also didn’t really think he would do anything to harm you. At most he’d tease you like he was doing now, swimming lazy circles around you.

“Do you swim here often?” Your eyes followed his motions, half amused by his actions and half fascinated by how easily he cut through the water.

“No. Our status as mermen is largely a secret after all,” He came to a slow stop, straightening as he glided to a halt in front of you. “Only a few people know about our aquatic nature.”

You blinked, half-surprised by this revelation, before you tilted your head, continuing to question the young man as you treaded water, “So swimming like this is sort of a nicety?”

Jade nodded, drifting closer with a mere twitch of his tail, “Yes, that’s why I hadn’t expected to see anyone here. Much less you, considering you don’t usually visit Octavinelle at this time of evening.”

As he spoke, his eyes flicked over to something behind you, and you heard a rather large splash that had you paddling rapidly in his direction and not turning until you were close enough to Jade that you deemed you were reasonably safe.

“Oh dear, I believed you startled them, Floyd,” Jade chuckled slightly as he glanced down at you before looking towards where his twin now surfaced in his eel form, a wide grin on his face.

“My bad~” You frowned at Floyd’s sing-songy tone, almost positive that he didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty as you watched him swim over.

“So are you two done flirting yet?” Floyd grinned widely as his gaze flickered between you and his brother, his words causing you to falter as you searched for a response.

“You could have given us more time, Floyd. They’ve hardly been in the water any time at all,” Jade feigned a pout, his hand reaching up to rest lightly on your shoulder and causing you to look up at him feeling incredibly betrayed.

“We weren’t flirting. And you know it!” Your words made both of them laugh before Floyd shook his head, his eyes alight with purpose to tease.

“Sure, and you didn’t get in the water willingly.” The young man reached out, ruffling your hair with ease as he grinned, his gaze continuing to dart between his twin, who still had an arm wrapped around you, and your frowning face. “Don’t worry, Shrimpy. Your secret’s safe with us. I won’t tell a soul that you like my bro.”

Love

Today, too, Jazz is flowing through the Mostro Lounge, for the customers who come to escape the hustle and bustle of the Night Raven College.

In contrast to the relaxing atmosphere of the lounge, a shout comes from the counter of the Lounge, by no one other than the owner himself.

“What do you mean you broke up with her,Jade?!”

...

It started with a simple question from Floyd.

“Jade... Shrimpy is late today. When is she coming? It is boring here without Shrimpy,”

“Floyd, she probably won't come today or any time soon for that matter.” Jade answered.

“Eh.... Whyyy??”

“Because my knowledge of her tells me that she wouldn't have the courage to meet me as I just broke up with her.”

And the eel's unanticipated answer stunned both Azul and Floyd.

And surprisingly, the first one to react is the Octavinelle dorm leader.

“What?! What do you mean you broke up with her, Jade?”

...

The news that Jade broke up with the Ramshackle perfect spread like wildfire as someone overheard the Octavinelle trio's conversation from the other day.

And the reactions of those who heard the news vary:

Some pitied the Perfect.

Some congratulated the fact the only girl in NRC has became single.

But deep down, everyone knew it would came to this sooner or later. Being cast aside when there is no use left is the only end that awaits for those who gets involved with the Leech twins, after all.

...

Jade heard all those whispers and rumors about his ex-girlfriend and him.

While some of them are true to some extent, others are literal nonsense.

Those fools even say that he did not love the Perfect at all

That could not be more wrong

as he loves and loves and loves her so much that he himself does not what to do.

...

When he broke up with her, saying she was too boring, her initial reaction was blank, like she was trying to understand an ancient language.

And her expression slowly changed into one of shock as the meaning of his words gradually sank in.

Then one by one beautiful drops of tear roll through her cheeks.

After seeing that miserable side of the Perfect, Jade found himself falling all over for her again.

He truly does love her.

So, he doesn't think anything is wrong with wanting to see every expression of his lover.

To some people, his form of love might look twisted.

Well... he has never one to care about what others think anyway...

Amidst the rumors, the Perfect stand unshaken. As usual, they go to lecture, do Crowley's errands and solve problems around the campus. Everyone including her first-year friends are surprised and equally relieved by her indifferent behavior.

Everyone except Jade that is.

Because he knows...

the way you stare into distance sorrowfully when you are alone,

the way you check your phone frequently to see if he sent you any messages,

the way your eyes glaze over when something reminds you of him...

He was able to see her various faces and he enjoys it fully.(He still can't understand why you accepted his reason for the break up, which was you being boring, when you are this interesting.)

It certainly worths being given a mouthful by Azul for the decline in the sales due to losing their one and only poster girl.

...

After he has his fun, he plans to get the Perfect back again. There is no way he can let her be single forever, after all.

He invites her out to the courtyard and tells her the truth, that he broke up with her because he LOVES you and obviously got rejected.

But he wasn't too worried at all because he already considered this as a part of his plan.

...

And the troubles begin.

- You failed the exam you were studying so hard for.

Ace made fun of you and even Deuce told you to study harder. Grim knows you worked hard but just thinks you fell asleep in the exam.

No one believes you when you said you answered the questions perfectly.

- You somehow made the vegetables from Epel's hometown go bad when all you were doing was trying to deliver those to him. Epel misunderstood you and made a ruckus.

- The Savannaclaw students bullied you for being magic less staying in NRC when you didn't even want to come to this twisted world in the first place.

Slowly but surely she understood what living without Jade's protection is like.

So, you finally accepted him back.

...

“Shhh...

They're terrible, aren't they?

Those students...

Why are they hurting you...?

Even though you had done nothing to them...

And also your friends...

Why can't they trust you... ?

Even though you had done everything for them ...

Do you know why?

It is because you are weak and stupid and pathetic.

But don't worry.

Because I love you.

I will always love you even though you are worthless.

So you don't have to worry about anything. Just rely on me.

As I will ALWAYS be here for you.”

Deep down, the Perfect knows that Jade is the one pulling the strings.

But it doesn't change the fact that her friends didn't trust her and that Jade is the only one who accepts every part of her.

So, she lets herself sink into the comfort of Jade's strong arms.

...

Jade loves the Perfect.

He truly loves her.

He loves breaking her and building her up again

because he LOVES her.
