i really don't understand this narrative that izzy must secretly be wealthy. he is a pirate, he has a northern english accent, he is quite literally shown and coded to be a working class man. no i don't think you have to like izzy to understand that he is also a working class person just like the rest of the pirates we've encountered minus stede. at this point you're just deflecting your criticisms of stede's wealth onto izzy and i have no idea how you did it but it is slightly impressive.

unstoppable force (my growing need to stop looking into the tags bc I am so fucking tired of being in this toxic wasteland of a fandom space) vs immovable object (my constant, overwhelming desire to see every single new scrap of content posted about my hyperfixation ever the instant it appears)

I agree with the people saying that fandom was a nightmare.... but I'm always hesitant to say "fans of this show deserved this cancellation!" because even with a show with as numerous nightmare fandom people as that one had, there are countless other people who are normal respectful fans and who often aren't involved in online fandom at all who watch it. OFMD was a show that like my whole family watched. Most of them have never heard of AO3 or know anything about the Izzycourse. And that's true with every show, tbh.

Yes. Lots of us, even the ones who dwell on social media, thought the retweeting of the tentacle art was delightful.

okay honestly i think "you only like izzy because con plays him" is really indicative of some of the weirdest parts of izzycourse because it's applying an incredibly arbitrary marker towards consuming media and demanding for you to reexamine the character through the exclusion of one of the most important parts of a character: the literal fucking acting.
like it's absolutely not a thing where con had a huge established fanbase who all watched ofmd because they loved him from the start. the majority of people in fandom who are super into con had their first substantial introduction to him through ofmd. this isn't a predetermined bias.
and it's like we already know for a fact that the only reason stede is likable is because of rhys. as in david jenkins has said rhys is the only way his character could work. beyond that even, you gotta know that taika's charisma (and honesty the fact that he's hot!!) elevated ed's character from good to something great. i can't imagine ed being played by a different actor. that's a completely different character!
i stg no other fandoms has these arguments of "this character isn't actually that good his actor is just really talented!" like this is straight up not a thing? like acting is part of the character! everybody else in the world points to an actor's talent making the character even better as a positive and not something to make generic condescending remarks about fans for having the audacity to consume the show like a normal person taking in all aspects to form their opinion on something. why would you disregard the acting to make an informed choice about a character? ofmd would've been a book if the actors didn't matter.

The only meaningful izzycourse is if he's a catboy or a dogboy

frankly one of the funniest parts of the izzycourse is when people craft these really elaborate nonsensical reaches to explain how izzy is supposed to be a 21st century homophobe who we’re supposed to just think of as an anachronism like the crocs because they know that “izzy is homophobic” doesn’t make ANY sense in the context of the time period or the show itself and how it’s actually really deep and complicated and a nuanced takedown of lowkey/discreet closeted kind of homophobic gay grindr hookup culture or something but then like the idea that izzy as a working class person would hate stede bc stede is a lazy wealthy landowner pathetic excuse of a pirate which is like one of the major conflicts and running jokes within the story and something that made his character too unlikable to enjoy with basically any other actor except for rhys is a laughable reach and woobifying izzy or something.

i am an izzy stan but like aome of them just completely make him a different character who's all sad and tragic and he's just misunderstood guys like where's the fun in that he's boring if he isn't a little fucked up!!!
YEAHHH EXACTLY
I was gonna say more on that but I don’t want to invite ANY izzycourse to my door lmaoooo
Let’s just say that while I like exploring many different ideas of his character I do still think that at his core he’s just a fucked up guy who kind of sucks

sometimes I almost end up dipping my (pinky) toe into the izzycourse™️ but then I remember that unfortunately more people follow me than like, the two or so really swag mutuals whose izzy opinions I actually fully approve of and trust. and then I’m like shit… I cannot anger the piranhas… I must not….. these are very dangerous waters 😶
