I like to think it's a Vulcan culture thing where couples serve each other food, like it's a way to show care/respect to feed/provide for each other (without having to get into mushy gushy feelings)

and this is why Spock is always handing Jim food/drinks, and Jim doesn't think anything of it bc Bones is constantly on him about eating (healthy) so he's used to the attention

but there are missions where he's off in his lil Jim world doing Captainly things, y'know being a good diplomat, and ppl will try to give him food but in the background they're getting the deadliest glare from his First Officer and no one knows why
