#it's strongly implied that she would PREFER to help kira than kill him but she was very much down for the latter

i would like it to be known that i am not a misa apologist. i am instead a celebrator of her horrible, unhinged and atrocious behaviour. she killed celebrities for weird little scandals, was 100% down to murder her dear friend for a boy she had met two seconds ago, planned to kill the shinigami who loved her for literally no reason at all, and showed up at light's house still undecided on whether she wanted to be his girlfriend or murder him while his mom made tea for them downstairs. i think she is delightful.

Little Witch Academia LGBT+ Readings and Headcanons
Just thought I would do a super quick listing of where I think all of the characters fall regarding LGBT+ identities, as well as maybe some other bonus stuff.
It'll probably be controversial, but it's fun to connect with something in this way.
We'll start with my strongest and most adamant readings, before progressing down to more headcanon-y fun stuff.
At the absolute top is the Edgy Transgender Lesbian Nerd with an army of roombas, Croix Meridies. If there's one character that is definitely gay, it's her. I also have very strong opinions regarding the trans part. Whilst not the most popular character in this regards, it is strongly suggested and I wrote an essay on it, to shamelessly plug. She is the most heavily trans-coded character in the series, and it's very important to me. Re-watching with this in mind, as a trans person, is emotionally draining, and shockingly relatable (not the villain stuff!). I also have a somewhat more passive headcanon that she is Autistic. Will protect, despite almost burying us all.
Ursula/Chariot du Nord is a Lesbian and very much implied to have been... more than friends with Croix. They were broommates. This is fairly uncontroversial, and the least-contested pairing in the show. I don't read her as trans, but I know that some fans do, and that's totally valid. Everything is valid because the show was written by a talented team of writers and artists who created something to resonate with many people for many different reasons, being truly inclusive. I think it's why I prefer to say "reading" rather than "headcanon" for things I'm more serious about, because I'm a pretentious university literature nerd that's too into lenses and critical theory to have fun. But for fun, I like to headcanon that she kept using the name Ursula after the finale, preferring her life as a teacher.
Constanze is heavily coded as nonverbal autistic and non-contact. She's so cool. For fun, I read her as aroace, because she's too cool for any of this shipping business. It's also fun to believe that after getting out of jail, she would have gotten on with Croix and attended her classes (if she still taught, as Holbrooke suggested) due to their shared interests and approaches to magic. Also a very heated gamer with multiple smashed controllers to her name.
Akko Kagari, Bi-con. Despite the creator saying that she had no interest in boys, she very obviously does based on several moments in the show. By the end of the show, she seems to also be figuring out that she likes Diana. I mean, obviously. Akko is also quite heavily trans-coded, with her story resonating with lots of trans girls due to it's thematics, as well as some fun imagery and humour. It also seems that Akko is to some degree neurodivergent, possibly on the Autism Spectrum, and almost certainly with ADHD. She's precious. Also a communist.
Diana Cavendish is probably the most popular character among gay and trans fans and for VERY good reason. I know she's a lesbian. You know she's a lesbian. Everyone universally agrees that she is a lesbian that slowly fell in love with Akko. She also has by far the strongest trans following, and whilst not as intensely coded as Croix or Akko, it makes a lot of thematic sense to her story, especially serving as a mirror to both of them, especially Akko. Same event. Same inspiration. Same tragedy. Opposite lives. I have an earlier essay on this and plenty of fans have discussed the themes better than I can.
From this point, we're more into fun headcanon-y territory, and things I take less seriously, but really like.
Amanda O'Neill. Butch lesbian. Next.
Ok, in all seriousness, Amanda is a semi-popular character to read as a trans man or nonbinary. I personally don't. But again, it's totally valid if it resonates with you. Some of the best fanworks and art I've ever seen are actually from this perspective.
Lotte Yansson, everyone's favourite awkward nerd that doesn't have an army of roombas (yet...), strikes me as bi. She's often shipped with Barbara due to their shared interests, and I find it really sweet. She's also probably autistic. She's great.
Sucy. Ace. Life is mushrooms. She at the very least killed off the part of herself that likes boys. I find it to be a very sweet thought that she's close to Constanze and always accompanies her to Pride. Also might be a murderer with a desire for punishment, judging by the Pyramid Heads that her mind manifested. Or you know what? Maybe she's a lesbian who killed her wife and repressed the memory. My deepest apologies to anyone that isn't familiar with Silent Hill.
Hannah and Barbara seem to be bi. They like boys and also seem to have a lot of affection for Diana. And each-other. THEY HOLD HANDS DAMNIT!!!
A fun theory involves Andrew being a trans boy. I don't really know, but it puts his relationship with his father into perspective, who demeans his masculinity repeatedly. As for my own headcanons, I actually like Andrew, and see him as a nice boy who genuinely just wants to be friends with Akko and is super enthusiastic about her and Diana getting together. Maybe he even wants to get into magic.
Frank is king Himbo. Actually, no, that's just canon.
Joanna of the News Team is trans. No particular reason - she just reminds me of a friend and it's nice.
Holbrooke is over 150 years old and had many wild and crazy days that she still remembers fondly.
Finnelan is probably a f*cking terf, or at least represents it in the abstract. I get nothing but bad vibes from her. She doesn't know about Diana, but she sure knows about Croix and Akko. There's also some evidence that she wants Holbrooke's job, which is actually ironic considering The Enchanted Parade has her in that position.
The world of LWA is appropriately vague, which helps to avoid weird essentialist stuff. Many men practise magic (Examples include the Wild Hunt, Wizard Cops, and Salem), and Akko and Diana's restoration of magic made it more readily accessible than ever for all people of all genders all over the world. It's a perfect ending.
And now for absolute batshit with no evidence that I love anyway:
Avery is a lesbian. Why? In the English dub she's voiced very briefly by Kira Buckland, who plays all of the lesbians ever, from Neir to Jojo. And this was just an excuse to plug Heart of The Woods. Play it, COWARDS!!!
I'm sure that Molly has an interesting backstory or something.
Wait, what?
Gaëlle, who scored 960 on the Fish TOEIC, has a crush on Akko, but only as a merman.
Salem Saberhagen was the third roommate to Croix and Chariot. He was an asshole.
Akko read Harry Potter as a child and immediately thought it was bullshit.
Akko, Diana and Croix all seem to agree on the above...
Akko's cat is actually Salem Saberhagen in disguise, and is the true villain.
Akko radicalised Diana into communism.
Akko's favourite song is "A Merman I Should Turn to Be" by Jimi Hendrix. She connects with it or something.
And now... for the most batshit of all batshit takes...
Croix and Chariot eventually settled down in Ireland and had a child together. The little "boy" was very interested in science, evidently taking after the former mom to a frightening degree. Eventually, she transitioned, and combined her magic with the power of genetic engineering, rising to prominence in the mid 21st century as figure so controversial that Chariot and even Croix, whilst proud of their daughter, had reservations as to her ethics. Her name? MOIRA 😓
A good time was had by all.
