I have. Like. So many songs that I associate with the bayverse turtles. I kinda…… maybe….. have a playlist on Spotify for vibes that go with each of them. Not really like “this song reminds me of this turtle” but more like “Mikey makes me feel x so this playlist is gonna have songs that make me feel x”
I do think they probably listen to vastly different music than what reminds ME of them however. Canonically we know they’re at least all into hip hop, enough to make a Christmas album, and groups like Wu Tang Clan. and despite everyone collectively deciding Leo likes eastern style music dude was still twerking in an elevator to beat box so for a date night vibe~

Leo is eeeeeehhhh cuz I’m blinded by the Feelings but I think he’d listen to older music when he’s by himself. I got bit by the Tally Hall Hidden in the Sand bug and I can just imagine him humming along to it. I think he’d also enjoy eighties electronic music.

lastly, my october hyperfixation was...
horror movies and true crime!! i watched over 100 hours of movies, video essays, podcasts, and documentaries relating to horror and true crime. i'm officially burnt out of it though, so i will be back next month to once again happily share my interests!! byeee

just realized I do in fact have Thoughts about the new flowers pv so uh here they are. guys I'm so excited way too excited actually
it's so funny to me that they're reprising yoh and ren's voice actors for hana and men. idk if yoh and ren also get to keep their original voices (too lazy to tryhard google rn) but the idea of that one dramatic scene for red crimson ever being animated with romi park doing slightly different voices for both characters is incredible
THIS IS WHAT I'M MOST HYPED FOR YOU DON'T GET IT. I am so excited to see what direction yuki hayashi takes the score because THE MOTIF THAT PLAYED OVER THIS SHOT... yeah yeah Sound Guy is excited about sound big whoop
but listen listen I am one of those weirdos who lost it over the 2021 anime's ost (I compiled that one spotify playlist of it. the composer was my top artist last year. I was in the top 0.5% of listeners ffs) and with my rudimentary knowledge of 2021's leitmotifs I am going to DEMOLISH the flowers score like it SOUND SO GOOD. when the first trailer came out I was all over the music as well
this was my favourite shot from the pv the composition/lighting is just so good. I know the animation is probably going to be like the 2021 anime (have gorgeous composition early on and then drop off) but man. I am SO ready for that good early stuff. also the first arc of flowers is my favourite part so. win

Do you like classical music? What are your favorite pieces?
Decently; I was a Band Kid back in the day lol so instrumental stuff has been a decent chunk of my life. I don't really listen to any of the classical greats or anything niche because I'm teeeerrible about finding new music in general much less like that; unfortunately, I've heard a lot of really good classical and jazz, but it's pretty hard to identify and retain songs (not to mention the difference of live vs recording), so all I've got is pretty well known recommendations haha. That said, they're still enjoyable and I recommend them both to people with classical and jazz exposure and people without.
Holst's suite The Planets is something I imagine everyone sort of interested in classical style music (feels weird to say. Not classical period but You Know What I Mean) already knows but they're damn good and I recommend anyone who hasn't listened to them, do so. They're essentially the blueprint for movie scores, to the point that *cough* some people just blatantly copy them *cough starwars cough*. Among those, beyond crowd favorites of Mars and Jupiter, I'm really partial to Saturn but suuuper picky about which recording I listen to for it. This is the one I like (though I recommend listening to other tracks I've linked here before this one because it's just. a lot of investment):
It's a little more uptempo than I prefer for the piece but the ending is fucking exquisite, man. A lot of recordings will have one or two musicians slide just slightly out of tune or a bit of a hard tongue and on a piece like this it's super noticable to me (in other times not at all lmao, this makes me sound like a snob), but this one is CLEAN. I'd kill to experience this in person
Otherwise, I generally prefer another album. I made myself a playlist with that album but the Saturn track is swapped with the one above, which I'll link here:
Dvorak's New World Symphony's 4th movement is fun too. I'd say it also falls into the genre of 'movie soundtracks got based off this so it feels more modern than it is'. It's also one of those songs that definitely is better live I can feel it in my bones where I should be feeling the low brass yk:

Though obviously that's getting into jazzier territory. I'm kind of a sucker for more bigband type stuff. In particular I really like some latter sections in The Curtain, but really the whole album is fantastic.

I also enjoy some classic jazz standards like Take Five and In the Mood but who doesn't lmao there's a reason they're still insanely popular. Idk this shit rocks:
The upside of my instrumental music taste being very generic and friendly means if you haven't really listened to much, you should actually find something you like, here, though! If you're real in on it you can judge me for my answers but I will not listen to anything but recs.
I actually do want to explore more, especially with jazz honestly. Which I know you technically said classical music and those aren't always close things in people's heads but uhhhhhhhhhhhhh I did music theory for a bit and jazz is nuts man. If you think you don't like jazz there is 100% a genre of it that you'd be into it's so varied and cool as hell
I also want to go to (classical and jazz) concerts more. I miss live music. It really hits like nothing else. I really recommend anyone to look up local university bands and see if they have free concerts; they probably do. You don't have to really dress up or anything. I recommend going to full range ensembles over instrument specific stuff but that's just because I overwhelmingly prefer a more varied music texture and range. So stuff like jazz bands, wind ensembles, string orchestras I will technically count. Yea

Listening to my destiny soundtrack playlist and ruminating on how like. Even the soundtrack for lightfall was kind of subpar. Like I don't by any means think lightfall was wholly bad, but it wasn't up to the standard of everything else that's been happening in destiny. You can really see that having to split witch queen into two dlcs kind of made it so that lightfall wasn't the most it could be yknow
But back to the soundtrack - I know they made it this way on purpose, but it's so... M*rvel movies. Just like nothing interesting, generic John Williams style score. You can see the difference most starkly between insurrection (an uluran themed song) from wq and the song that plays when you're literally killing calus, our enemy of multiple years. Insurrection is so swagful and tyrant overthrown is so... Nothing. Like there's a bit of cabal stomp in there but it's not??? Idk it has no soul

Pls forgive me for Going Off on One in this next bit; I am so very passionate about music, as you can probs tell! Particularly instrumental compositions/film and TV scores.
SO, in terms of instrumental pieces:
The End, from the film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, really encapsulates general feel of the fic/story as a whole. It's ruminative/melancholy, yet, at the same time, hopeful. "Bittersweet", I think is the most accurate way of putting it. Lucy's most pivotal scene was written to this piece.
Winter III, Recomposed by Max Richter is-- ...to me it's just Jack. Jack incarnate. Every time I re-read the DoD (written by the wonderful SafyreSky, for anyone not in the know) I hear this playing in my head.
Mel has an enormously dramatic/important scene (basically the rounding off of her character arc) written to Hans Zimmer's Murph, from the movie Interstellar. The 8:57 mark. Good God.

honestly atp I can relate just about any song back to the greens bc I’m deranged but I do have some general thoughts since I actually wanna make modern au playlists for them at some point 🫶🏼
swan upon leda by hozier is 1000% alicent…”a crying child pushes a child into the night” it’s literally alicent and her children bye…also cinnamon girl by lana makes me think of alicent (towards rhaenyra). aemond is edgy he definitely listens to the crow (1994) soundtrack especially burn by the cure…he also def listens to a lot of instrumentals whether it be classical music or film scores when he is studying his histories and philosophies djwjwgdhdb. this is like a half joke but if this is a 2014 tumblr AU then aemond is a lana girl and aegon is a marina girl. the electra heart and family jewels albums are SOOO aegon btw (living dead, lies, are you satisfied?, I am not a robot, mowgli’s road…I could keep going but lemme stop) also kill v maim by grimes was my first aegon song tbh. as for helaena I think she would listen to very chill, ambient sort of music. dreampop. idk why but I’m thinking of like, the quieter songs from the twilight movies 😭 like possibility, rosyln, flightless bird american mouth. not necessarily that she would listen to THOSE songs but I mean that vibe of music…she wouldn’t listen to anything too noisy while on the flip side aegon def would. ok this is all I have the brain capacity for rn but would love suggestions bc like I said I rly wanna make some playlists eventually 💚

the first song that comes up is remembrance by balmorhea. I've had tlou2 soundtrack on repeat for the longest and I found a playlist on youtube of the really gut wrenching songs and this one was on there. i'm a big music nerd (was in orchestra for 7 years) and it really just hits my music brain in a way I cant explain. im a sucker for a good show/movie/game soundtrack/score and it just makes me so happy hehe

a piece of jewelry I wear all the time is my cross, cornicello and a small hand charm making a horn gesture facing down (idk what this one is called). being greek/italian my family is big on the evil eye and protecting from it, so thats where the cornicello and the other charm come in!

ok ok so i’m not a super knowledge music/composer/soundtrack person but your narnia ask reminded me of the other soundtrack i was horrifyingly obsessed with, circa middle school: peter pan (2003) by james newton howard. and i just looked him up and it looks like he has done work on movies MUCH more prolific than my silly little peter pan movie. anyway, i’m bored at work so i thought i’d ask if you have any james newton howard rambles/opinions.
(i do not have any particular attachment to jnh himself so i won’t be offended if you have no opinions or if you have opinions and they’re negative. this is pure curiosity.)

YEAH !!! he's done quite a few of my favorite scores ever, including the hunger games series and the dark knight trilogy* and overall his work is very. orchestral. like. obviously everyone's work is orchestral, but jnh specifically sounds like something I'd hear at a concert hall <33 I can't explain it but it's true <333
*he's credited alongside hans zimmer (another one of my all-time faves) and idk how the work was split between the two but regardless it's some of my favorite music (even if the trilogy itself isn't very comics-accurate 😔😔😔😔😔)
overall I think my favorite thing about jnh is how soothing his music is ??? especially his work with the hunger games soundtracks because obviously there's the more intense action music for fight scenes but a lot of the soundtrack is very calm and contemplative. and I really really love it <33 in that same vein, one of my all time favorite tracks in the hunger games trilogy is monkey mutts. most of the song is very intense and unsettling, but my favorite part is 2:37 to the end. it's sooooo <3333333 I'm not gonna lie, I really wish that part of the soundtrack was separate from the rest of that piece because I'm not an overly huge fan of jnh's more intense, faster-paced music. it's not BAD, but there's just some composers who I think do action music a little better. but like I said I looooove the calmer pieces howard does <3 he uses string instruments so well!!!! my TOTAL favorite piece, hands down, is rue's farewell. it's such an interesting one because it's a death scene, but it doesn't really seem sad until the very end. it's so...peaceful. it's like walking down a beach at sunset and listening to the waves. and that's really interesting to me because the character who's dying grew up in this totally shitty world and she's suffered so much and now she's just. at peace. and the music reflects it and BOY I go insane <3!!
the dark knight trilogy is also really fun!!! it's a different flavor of music for sure; the hunger games is very calm and gentle but tdk has a lot more intensity in the music. and I actually quite enjoy it despite what I just said about how I feel about jnh doing faster/more intense music, but hans zimmer being a collaborator on the soundtrack may or may not have something to do with that. idk how they split up the work, but I really love the end result regardless!! I'm not a hero is one of my favorites!! it's very,,, varied. it has a lot of different sections and moving parts but I LOOOOVE it <3 personal issues with the trilogy aside, it really captures the whole batman vibe! there's also a lot of jnh's more calmer and reflective style throughout the soundtrack, and it's a good mix with zimmer's style imo!!
he also did treasure planet!!!!!!!!!!! it's like. my favorite disney movie <333 my favorite tracks include 12 years later (it has a lot of jnh's calm/contemplative style!! and also jim's theme with a really neat underlying electric guitar <33 makes a man like me so crazy) and silver leaves (which, you guessed it, also has a very calm atmosphere to it)
all in all I think jnh's best work comes from the calmer more atmospheric music!! I think my favorite of his works is the hunger games series, but honestly I'm not super picky either way <333
also here's my soundtrack playlist!! it started out as a little study playlist for finals week but at this point it's become where I keep all my favorite movie soundtracks lmao!! I add to it almost daily so right now it's at 15 hours but by the end of the week? who knows <33 but idk none of the compilations I've ever found have actually had All Of My Faves so like. fuck it I'll do it myself <3 I could probably ramble all day long about every individual composer on that playlist but <33 for the sake of brevity I will not <333

ok so i tend to use song lyrics for titles when i'm feeling extra lazy and i don't necessarily use songs i listen to just like titles everybody knows that suit the piece (like "memory (all alone in the moonlight)" for an amnesia buck au) but in the gilmore girls au i used a bunch of songs for albert bc he was the town troubadour so i'd probably say the amazing devil

i think to myself idk i guess ive never had any really long term intense hyperfixations that are consistent over a period longer than 5 years 🤔 buuuuut
(rambling below cut)
but then i remember that one of the first songs i ever bought off itunes EVER was a movie score i really liked (“Define Dancing” off of the WALL-E score) and my first music streaming experience was me training my Pandora stations to play me movie soundtracks and i asked for movie score CDs for christmas and i would ask my dad to buy me piano music sheets for my favorite scores (i learned the fuck out of “The Imperial March” thank you) and the vast majority of my YouTube usage at age like, 13, was me playing the Inception soundtrack and Two Steps from Hell and Audiomachine and searching up “trailer music” obsessively (tsfh was always a favorite but zach hemsey you will ALWAYS be my fucking BOY). and i told people my favorite music artist was Hans Zimmer and watched the Oscars every year to root for my favorites but paid special attention to best original score (i’m SORRYYYYY trent and atticus the social network score is literally so sexy and your brains are so fucking big but inception should have won i know my opinion is wrong but ive held this belief since 2010) and i downloaded the Pacific Rim score illegally piece by piece on Tumblr and made my blog autoplay in 2014 the Forrest Gump main title suite and made playlists specifically of instrumental music to fall asleep to and tried to memorize all the major music scorers of the modern day and collected 8tracks playlists of especially good instrumental / score mixes i liked and got into some specific video games specifically because i liked their soundtracks
and like a solid third of my 5,350-song long liked songs list on spotify is soundtrack and i listen to so so so much of it while driving and working and writing and i buy CDs and vinyl records of scores i like so i can listen to them more
amnyways…. i guess ive been obsessive about it for so long that i kind of forgot it was unusual for people to be focused on movie scores but just today i was listening to natalie holt’s “Purpose is Glorious” from the loki series finale and i was like damn girl is absolutely bringing out those nicholas britell trumpets from if beale street could talk (a movie i have never seen before but have listened to the soundtrack of over and over again) !! and i thought “huh i wonder if she and nick talked because she was scoring obi-wan kenobi presumably at the same time he was scoring andor. bc the trumpet sounds are so close no way it’s a coincidence!”
and then i remembered NO NORMAL PERSON would EVER have that thought process because having all that knowledge just stored away is not useful in the least i am just a FREAK!!!! an extremely knowledgable one but a weirdo nonetheless
i love it though because i get to say shit like “disasterpeace literally changed the game with it follows because like it follows was so good those synths n shit just transcended genres from horror to drama with daniel lopatin’s score for uncut gems to historical biopic with ludwig goransson’s work for oppenheimer. like oppy straight up is using the SAME ass SYNTHS” and you just have to smile and nod because what am i even talking about ‼️
long story short yeah i keep forgetting i do have a long term intense consistent hyperfixation and it’s called “film, television, and video game scores”
