Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera)| Top Details , Best Uses & Amazing Facts
Introduction Of Lotus
Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) an aquatic plant that belongs to the family Nelumbonaceae and has been cultivated for many centuries for various purposes including medicinal and ornamental uses. Read on to find out more about this plant’s various uses and amazing facts!
The lotus is an aquatic plant with a thick bulbous root and narrow leaves. It’s one of Earth’s oldest known flowers and can be found in freshwater lakes, ponds, rivers, and swamps around much of Asia.flower has been present since before recorded history; its use in Chinese culture dates back to about 3,000 BC. Legends say that when Buddha was born he emerged from a giant flower floating on top of Lake Anotatta in northern India.
Tumblr media
Common & Regional Names in India
Padma, Sacred Lotus, Indian Lotus, Kamaḷa, Tāmarai, Purple Water Lily, and Sensitive Plant. Other Names: Sansevieria trifasciata, Dwarf Hygrophila, or Fish Tail plant are also called lotus in India. is one of the most beautiful aquatic plants which can be used to decorate water bodies or aquariums. It has four distinctive petals which look like a flower. This plant helps to purify air naturally without creating pollution while providing oxygen. The main stem is tall but narrow and thick at its base. The leaves of Nelumbo nucifera resemble blades with flat bottoms and a triangular shape similar to an arrowhead that’s why it’s named a water lily and sensitive plant too.
Description and Growth
Nelumbo nucifera is an aquatic perennial herbaceous plant. It can be found in tropical areas of Asia and Africa. The petals grow from a long stalk that surrounds a showy yellow or purple-black flower. The lotus has a high economic value and is one of many plants that are used for ornamental purposes. People also use it for medicinal uses.
Each kind Nelumbo nucifera of  is native to different regions throughout Asia and Africa so people who live there have been using them since ancient times. In some countries like India, its cultivation dates back to 3100 B.C., but other countries where its flowers are mainly cultivated include China, Japan Vietnam, and Korea. Nowadays they have begun cultivating it all over Europe because of its growing demand.
The lily plant is known for its large green leaves that grow from a small central bulb. The huge leaf blades are generally more than 1m across and have a slightly wavy margin. The center of each blade features a darker green oval shape towards which branches off many thinners’ leaves radiating outwards in all directions; it’s almost as if these smaller leaves are acting as spokes on a wheel to support their larger counterpart.
Each stem may branch out up to 3 times before ending in one final flower head. Finally, each flower head consists of numerous bright yellow flowers arranged around a thickened spike at its core—the mature seeds of which serve as food for wildlife and humans alike.
Cultivation
Lotus can be grown in ponds or in deep, rich soil that drains quickly. The plant grows best in areas with warm climates and plenty of sunlight.Nelumbo nucifera is a free-floating plant which means it doesn’t need to be planted but rather added to an existing body of water. The roots will adhere to whatever surface they touch and even thrive underwater
As such you don’t need to worry about planting a specific type of lotus. If you want flower for a pond or other body of water, simply obtain three rhizomes from your local nursery and add them directly into the water when temperatures are between 50 ̊F and 75 ̊F. It will take around three years for your plants to mature into their prime flower-producing state.
Facts And Uses
Nelumbo nucifera is a plant in the Nymphaeaceae family. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating common colds, coughs, and skin wounds. In Japan, it is commonly seen in outdoor arrangements. The flowers of water lily are pale pink to deep red or orange and can bloom at night or during daytime with occasional pink to white petals. The flower buds are always deep red or orange before opening and become lighter when they open fully. Lotus roots have been used for centuries for treating liver

Saludos Amigos at 34
A review by Adam D. Jaspering
In 1941, World War II was raging. A number of Latin American countries were beginning to sympathize with the Axis Powers. The Roosevelt administration did not want fascist ideology creeping into the western hemisphere. The State Department needed an ambassador to steer South America towards US interests. They needed Walt Disney.
Walt Disney Animation Studios was in a precarious situation in 1941. For starters, Disney Studios made an irreversible pivot towards feature filmmaking. After the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the company expanded. The Hyperion Disney Studio had been abandoned for the larger, more lavish, and pricier Burbank Studio. It was a great cost, but one Disney hoped to offset with his next few pictures.
Disney expected up to 75% of his gross revenue to be earned internationally. Because of the war, the European film market had dried up. As a direct result, Pinocchio and Fantasia were financial losses. Disney had spent too much money and was not earning it back.
These financial struggles culminated in the most infamous labor dispute in the company’s history. Layoffs were imminent, and Disney could only promise security to a small fraction of his 1200 employees. This was the tipping point for the Disney Studio staff.
While Disney proved his mettle as a cartoonist and filmmaker, his business savvy was underdeveloped. Disney was running his big company like a little company, not delegating tasks or departmentalizing. There were wild discrepancies in employee pay and benefits. Animators earned anywhere from $12-$300 a week for the same output of work. Disney, unsympathetic to his employee’s complaints, refused to amend his practices. The ensuing Disney Animator’s Strike lasted from May 29 to September 14th, 1941.
Tumblr media
As a result of downsizing and retaliatory firings, Disney Studios exited the strike with only 694 employees. A majority of them, rather incensed by the ordeal. Disney needed three things to keep his company afloat. First, enough money to keep production financially stable. Second, a new market to sell his films until Europe became viable again. Third, he needed to recuse himself from duty until animosity subsided. The US Department of State could provide all three.
The deal was simple. Disney would embark on a 10-week goodwill tour to South America, financed by the United States Government. He would visit Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru. Disney would convince the populace, media, and politicians that The United States was an ally worth keeping. For his cooperation, Disney was given federal loan guarantees, staving off bankruptcy.
Tumblr media
Disney brought sixteen faithful employees along on the journey. They were a combination of animators, writers, and composers. They were tasked with soaking up the culture, atmosphere, and influence. Disney Studios would use these inspirations to create two films especially for Latin American audiences: Saludos Amigos (1942) and The Three Caballeros (1944).
Saludos Amigos is comprised of four independent segments, each one centered on a different area of South America: The Peruvian highlands, the Chilean Andes, the Argentinian Pampas, and Rio de Janeiro. Between these segments is video footage of Disney and his crew touring the continent. Perhaps to bookend the segments. Perhaps to ground the cartoons in a sense of reality. Perhaps to pad the runtime; Saludos Amigos is only 42 minutes long!
The first segment is titled Lake Titicaca, taking place at the namesake body of water, resting on the Peruvian and Bolivian border. The short features Donald Duck on vacation.
Tumblr media
Donald Duck is one of the most popular characters in the Disney pantheon, and this is his feature film debut. He is appearing in a short within a movie, but it still counts as a feature film debut. Donald is a very static character. You know exactly who he is, what he is capable of, and what sort of situations he will find himself in. Some misfortune will befall him, he’ll overreact, and his anger will exacerbate the situation.
Tumblr media
How he behaves in Lake Titicaca is exactly how he behaves in every short. Donald plays a tourist vacationing in Peru. He gets altitude sickness. He upsets a llama. His boat sinks and he’s plunged into the lake. The rope bridge he’s walking across falls apart, sending him careening down a gorge. It’s funny, the slapstick is well done, and it is paced well. It is a very typical Donald Duck cartoon.
It is so representative of Donald Duck, it could easily serve as a stand-alone short. It didn’t need to be part of a movie at all. There’s no massive increase in artistic style. No daring adventure in animation techniques. No groundbreaking backgrounds or design. Disney raised the bar for five consecutive films. Now he was lowering it.
In fairness, the artists did depict the Peruvian environment in a vivid manner. It’s a travel advertisement that doesn’t feel like one. The native craftwork, clothing, and culture are on full display, just as intended.
For the first half of the short, anyway. Partway, the focus drifts away from Donald Duck visiting Peru to Donald Duck’s wacky hijinks with a llama. In short, Lake Titicaca does a decent job of portraying Peru. However, the focus is on Donald Duck first. Peru is simply the backdrop.
Tumblr media
The second featurette is Pedro. Pedro is a personified airplane, the baby in a family of personified airplanes. Pedro’s father’s job is carrying the mail between Chile and Argentina. Every day, he flies over the treacherous Andes. One day, Pedro must fill-in for his father. It’s a parable about growing up and accepting responsibility.
Tumblr media
The task and the journey is formidable. It’s made all the more complicated by Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in South America. More than an obstacle, Aconcagua is also personified. He is an angry and territorial mountain, with the ability to control the weather. Whenever planes bother him, he creates storms. It makes little sense. Personified airplanes also make little sense. Clearly, we can accept a large quantity of silliness.
Tumblr media
Much like Lake Titicaca, Pedro is enjoyable, but offers little in terms of cinematic grandeur. It’s easy to understand why. Disney and his group returned from South America in October, 1941. Saludos Amigos debuted in August, 1942. Cinematic grandeur was not the goal. A finished product was the goal.
Throughout the rest of the 1940s, Disney would be releasing a series of package films. Shorts, cobbled together without much rhyme or reason, released as a feature. The combination of Disney’s financial woes and reduced staff forced him to dial his filmic aspirations back. For the foreseeable future, his productions needed to be fast, cheap, and accessible. Saludos Amigos was the forefather of these films.
While the cartoon is underwhelming, it’s not necessarily bad. The major problem is, Pedro offers a very poor representation of Chile. Lake Titicaca offered Peru and its environments as a backdrop. Pedro seems determined to ignore its setting. If young Pedro was carrying mail from Denver to Sacramento, and a personified Pike’s Peak was giving him grief, very little would be changed. There is no Chile in this cartoon dedicated to Chile.
Chileans themselves were well aware of this slight. Chilean cartoonist René Ríos “Pepo” Boettiger was especially frustrated. After seeing Saludos Amigos, Pepo created a truly Chilean cartoon character. Condorito, an animated condor, debuted in 1949. Beginning as a simple comic strip, Condorito has been syndicated internationally, featured in his own comic books, been adapted to TV, film, and a webseries. He remains popular in Chile and throughout Latin America. It’s easy to get inspired by art you like. You can also be inspired by art you don’t like.
Tumblr media
Next in the program is El Gaucho Goofy. Here, Disney staple Goofy makes his feature film debut. By 1941, Goofy’s schtick was drifting away from narrative-driven comic shorts and towards a parody of instructional videos. Already, he had “instructed” on baseball, skiing, swimming, fishing, and martial arts. These themed shorts would continue all the way to the 1960s.
El Gaucho Goofy aims to teach the differences between an American cowboy and a South American gaucho. Both have the same job, tending to cattle on the open prairie. The short highlights the regional and cultural differences.
Tumblr media
A defining aspect of these satirical Goofy shorts, Goofy is at constant odds with an omniscient narrator. Goofy either tries and fails to follow the provided instructions, or follows the instructions too closely, resulting in disaster. The slapstick is one mere aspect of the humor. The remainder is a dissonance between what the narrator deadpans, and what Goofy actually delivers.
Tumblr media
El Gaucho Goofy is funny in its own right. What’s more, Goofy is truly representing the life of a gaucho on the Argentinian Pampas. The short is basic, but entertaining, informative and detailed. Another strike against Pedro, outclassed in dignity and competency by Goofy.
The final segment of the film is Aquarela do Brasil (Watercolor of Brazil). Here, Donald Duck is employed once again. Not simply a sightseer in a foreign land, Donald is paired with Jose Carioca, a parrot and enthusiastic Brazilian patriot. Donald’s fiery temper and bad luck are sidelined for a whirlwind travelogue of Rio de Janeiro.
Tumblr media
At the time of filming, Rio was the third most populous city in the western hemisphere (it’s currently fifth). It was the clear intention of the filmmakers to highlight the urban metropolis in all its modern glory. A deliberate rebranding of South America as not just farmers and rural villages. South America also houses centers of industry, culture and commerce, on par with New York.
But when featuring Brazil, one has an obligation to depict the country as a whole. The urban splendor must be paired with the natural beauty. The Amazon river basin and the Pantanal are magnificent natural wonders. Their unique ecosystems and indigenous life contribute to Brazil’s evolution as an empire. Even miles outside the city, there are sights to behold.
The Disney animators depict the natural landscapes well. They create a beautiful watercolor wonderland. A disembodied paintbrush swoops in from offscreen, creating the world in real time. We are given a contrast of deep greens, vivid fluorescents, and rich pastels. It’s very post-impressionistic in style and saturation.
Tumblr media
When the short introduces Jose, it shifts into an exploration of Rio de Janeiro’s cityscape. Jose shows off trademark Brazilian interests, including nightclubs and a cachaça bar. Here, Donald partakes of his first glass of cachaça (a Brazilian spirit distilled from sugarcane, quite similar to rum).
Saludos Amigos, not fully intended for children, has no shame depicting Donald Duck drinking hard liquor. For what it’s worth, he doesn’t seem to enjoy it. Not that the drink tastes bad, Donald can’t stomach alcohol at all. It’s a strange thing to both feature alcohol as a cultural highlight to be respected, but also outwardly discouraging the beverage to a percentage of the viewing audience. Such is the problem of using a children’s cartoon character as a cultural ambassador.
Tumblr media
The character of Jose Carioca has a lot of personality. Even more when compared to an oddly subdued Donald, serving as an everyman and American analog. Jose is a passionate, excitable motormouth who launches into long monologues in his native Portuguese. He is often oblivious to Donald not understanding. He has much love for his native Brazil, and is quick to share it with everyone. He especially loves music and dance.
Tumblr media
So much so, the movie has no choice but to end on a samba number. Like Fantasia before it, Saludos Amigos has no coda, no outro, and no farewell. Just a title card reading “The End.” Combined with its 42-minute runtime, I can imagine many audience members sitting confused in the theater, waiting for the movie to continue.
Saludos Amigos was never intended to be a masterpiece. It was a piece of propaganda and a tax write-off cobbled together in less than nine months. There are individual elements of the movie to be enjoyed, but nothing especially noteworthy. Had it been made by any studio besides Disney, it would be relegated to obscurity. Not that Saludos Amigos is a celebrated entry in the Disney canon.
The story behind the film’s production is more interesting than the movie itself. Walt & El Grupo, a 2008 documentary, fully detailed Disney and his South American tour. It’s clear that The Walt Disney Company, owner of the archival footage and distributor of the final work, had creative control. Details of Disney’s interoffice troubles and financial debts are briefly mentioned, but the film focuses instead on a recreation of his South American tour. The end result is a very dry, unengaging film.
Despite every problem with Saludos Amigos, it did improve American/South American relations during WWII. The Axis powers had tried to influence South America, but by 1944, Latin America fully embargoed both Germany and Italy. Saludos Amigos didn’t achieve much, but it helped stop fascism from conquering the world. How many movies can make that claim?

questions to ask yourself before the new year except its february and we’re in a pandemic
what is one small way you can become a better person? for others? for yourself?
i can become a better person by addressing the trauma that i carry, and addressing it, and learning to cope with it better. i can be a better friend, parter, daughter and sister by leaning into the parts of myself that are broken and taking the time to pursue healing in meaningful ways. i can become a better person by taking responsibility for my growth and healing and actively work towards a more healed, wholesome version of myself.
what are you holding onto currently that is no longer serving you? why are you holding on? what’s one small step you can take towards releasing it?
i am holding on to the idea that i can fix those around me. being in a partnership/friendship with someone that openly expresses brokenness pulls on the need inside of me to fix things, and fix her. except thats not how people work, and thats not how healthy relationships work. i am holding on to this because for a long time, and sometimes i think to this day, i have been the glue for so many people. i am the common denominator, i am the steady, i am the savior. and being with alexa is a challenge because i have to be fully present, and wanting to support, with the very present knowledge that i can do absolutely nothing to make her feel better, and i might get my feelings hurt if i try.
goal for the new year that excites me? goal that scares me?
the goal that excites me the most this year is buying a house. it feels like another piece in the puzzle of the ever-elusive “perfect life”. having a house, two cats and a garden is a dream that i am so desperately hoping becomes a reality this year.
a goal that scares me is getting a therapist. i put it on my new years goals and here we are, almost march and i am no closer to reaching that goal. there are lots of things about therapy that are scary, being vulnerable mostly. and also the fear that i am going to open a can of worms that i can’t put back. and at the same time, i am afraid i am going to do the same thing i did last time - convince my therapist i was completely healed and didn’t need her help anymore to make her feel like she did a good job. probably one of the most toxic people pleasing i have ever done.... yikes. so this year, i want to be vulnerable and open with a therapist- and truly learn from them.
what do you want to be a student of in the new year?
i want to be the student of self-love this year. i feel like i have so much to learn from her, and truly so much to gain. as i am on this journey of ~weight loss~ healthy living i want to learn how to truly love myself- in all the forms that i take. one of the childhood and teen traumas that i carry around is self-loathing for my physical body, and extreme uncomfortableness i feel inside of her. my body was different than i thought it should be, and i never felt thin or pretty enough. even though looking back i could not have been any thinner without blowing away. as i try and lose some weight to get back to a healthy range, its so tempting to chase that skinniness that seems closer than ever now. i don’t ever want to think about my body in a good or bad way again, the same with food. i want it all to be neutral and purposeful. i don’t want body positivity, i just want body neutrality. i want to be comfortable and unbothered. i want to take pictures and look for the joy and not be hyperfocused on the rolls.
a quote that i am taking with me on this journey -
“what if you wake up some day, and you’re 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written, or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your things were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juice creative life of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? it’s going to break your heart. don’t let this happen.” - author unknown
who in your life deserves the biggest thank you for this year?
i am thankful for karl because of his understanding of me. i am thankful for mikaela for being a rock in my life and a cheerleader. i am thankful for silka because she offers more love than i know what to do with. i am thankful for alexa because she pushes me to be a better person. i am thankful for my mom, and her patience with me as i grow. i am thankful for my dad, and the hands-off role he has taken in my life. i am thankful for the friends that were patient and kind with me this year as i stayed away from most of them.
what can you thank yourself for this year?
i am thankful for the resiliency and grit it took to get through this year. feeling extremely burnt-out, from the pandemic, from social work and from life. managed to get a new job which is furthering my career in the healthcare field, managing to save a little money to buy a house. making it through the panic attacks and crying in the car at the thought of the losses in my life. thankfulness for the home that i have in myself, and the peace and safety i offer myself to be who i am and to encourage growth.
what have you outgrown this year?
i have outgrown pointless complaining. life is what you make it (to some degree) and i am choosing joy where i can and peace towards things i cannot affect.
what is an important boundary to set in the new year?
it is important to me this year to set emotional boundaries this year and create language to protect myself when i find myself trying to fix my partner and getting into old negative habits.
what’s a memory from this past year that makes you smile just thinking about it?
now this one’s a bit challenging because of the pandemic and social tension of this year, but i am choosing to focus on the personal good that happened in my life.

On the First Day of #Fishmas, Cheri Anderson Gave to Us: ONE Wonder-ful Award!
Tumblr media
Blogger’s note: The Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder Recognition Program recognizes a Service employee who has designed, implemented, or shown visionary leadership in an interpretive or environmental education program that fosters a sense of wonder and enhances public stewardship of our wildlife heritage. Early this month, our very own Cheri Anderson, information and education specialist at the Columbia River Gorge National Fish Hatchery Complex received this national award. We could not be more proud of Cheri and, while it is impossible to list her impact on the people, places, and partnerships in the Pacific Region, here are a few of the ways she has inspired a giant, and lasting, Sense of Wonder in her 20 years with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Congrats Cheri!

For decades, Cheri Anderson has been inspiring and educating people of all age to get outside and connect with nature. From the Grand Tetons to the Natchez Trace to the Columbia River Gorge, Cheri has exemplified federal employee professionalism, commitment, and a passion for educating and engaging children and adults. Here are just some of the ways she has sparked a sense of wonder during her career:
Cheri created one of the country’s most dynamic and impactful Information and Education Programs – Salmon in the Classroom - benefitting thousands of students throughout Washington and Oregon each year.
Thanks to Cheri, anglers of all ages and abilities have been catching the joy of fishing for many years through events she has had a hand in including Carson National Fish Hatchery Kids Free Fishing Day and Disabled Fishing Day.
Two decades of leading dozens of group tours each fall and winter at Spring Creek and Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery, reaching thousands of youth and adults.
Cheri was the lead Outreach Specialist for the regional FAC Program Hatchery Review, which was conducted from 2006-2011. Cheri developed printed outreach material and maintained the Project website.
Was one of the lead outreach specialists on a cross-agency team that communicated with the public and media about the removal of Condit Dam on the White Salmon River.
Two decades of supporting annual partners like the Underwood Conservation District, Yakama Nation, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to host annual community events such as WaterJam and WDFW outdoor camps and fishing days.
Working with partners such as Skamania County Forest Youth Success to create opportunities for youth volunteers to learn fish culture through spawning days and fulfill service commitments by building trails or restoring habitat on hatchery grounds.
Establishing—and helping maintain-- the award-winning Whitson Elementary Schoolyard Habitat and Pollinator Garden, built through a strong partnership coalition.
Enhancing and expanding existing, successful programming by adopting and incorporating Archery in the Classroom, SalmonWatch and Junior Ranger Angler programs into an already dynamic lineup of year-round programming.
Created targeted, hands-on programming such as fishing days and cross-country skiing trips towards disabled youth and adults. Cheri also played an important support role in the establishment in 2012 of a year-round, ADA-compliant disabled fishing platform at Drano Lake near Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery.
And most recently, helping the Region's FAC program establish a new salmon lifecycle and live salmon exhibit at the Oregon Zoo, which receives and estimated 1.5 million visitors a year. Cheri has also begun incorporating multiple annual visits to the Oregon Zoo—75 miles one way from her duty station to represent the FAC program at featured Zoo events like World Fish Migration Day and Zoo Lights.
Cheri has partnered with dozens of other entities throughout the years to build and sustain educational, interpretive, and outreach programs in the Columbia River Gorge and beyond. They range from non-profits like the Blueprint Foundation, which creates opportunities for African American male teenagers to engage in science, to PacificCorp, a hydroelectric power company that donates resources to community events.  Margaret Neuman Executive Director Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group captures Cheri’s sense of creative collaboration, perfectly:
“Cheri makes the content fun and engaging, as she finds ways to support teachers in getting their students involved in rearing salmon in their classroom, salmon releases, and activities to understand salmon life cycle, habitat, the role of hatcheries and humans, and so much more.”
Tumblr media

Under Cheri’s leadership, the National Fish Hatcheries in the Columbia River Gorge are not only places that raise more than 22 million salmon a year, they are community spaces where people connect to nature, whether it’s through catching a fish, seeing—or helping with—salmon spawning—or learning about the value of clean water and healthy habitats for fish and people. People—especially children—see Cheri’s passion and professionalism at work for a greater good, conserving, protecting, and enhancing fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitat for the continuing benefit of the American people. And they are inspired, just as we, Cheri’s colleagues are inspired by her hard work and dedication. When you work with Cheri, or engage with Cheri, or learn from Cheri, you become better aware of and connected to the natural world around you. In 1965 Rachel Carson wrote these words:
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he need the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering in him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”
For many people living in the Pacific Northwest—particularly schoolchildren who live in or around the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area--or visitors to a Columbia River Gorge National Fish Hatchery, Cheri Anderson just might, at some point, have been that person. Thank you Cheri!

Attendance wasn checked for the lectures (but definitely is for tutes!) and I got a HD without attending any lectures. One exam, one multiple choice quiz and a big article or press release. Also make sure you keep up with current affairs because they quiz you on that.. They are not directly affected by it, so why wouldn't they advocate for it. I think theres a good chance this doesn't get through, and the players just tell the league that they should use the G League instead.Ulairi 9 points submitted 23 days agoIt done; it not common anymore. But it is done. Peta also takes in rabid animals, animals that were abused, hit by traffic, used in criminal animal fighting rings. It silly to ignore the function of PETA because some high profile people were probably neglecting 과천출장안마 their animals and PETA put them down. If I was a rich unsavory millennial that had all the money, wouldn I take PETA to court? It very logical. Third, to answer your question directly, it is not my place to say what standards the average marriage minded Chinese woman should have. It is for women to decide. If they want to have the standards as seen in the video good for them. Remember there is always going to be temptation. I struggle too, but with pornography. I think the key is not avoiding temptation but overcoming it. Home. Is that what this place is supposed to be? Sitting in the worn, ancient pilot seat, staring out the cockpit window at this dying grey rock, and that empty ache in my chest hits me again. How long has it been? I honestly couldn even tell you. The new holiday set is $75 and has poor reviews too. This is a difficult task and can be scary. Most people choose not to confront scary things about themselves. Waterways connect Lake Champlain to rivers and canals. Boaters will find access to this beautiful lake by the Champlain Canal, the Hudson River, or the Richelieu River of Quebec. Lake Champlain is the sixth largest freshwater lake in the United States, and the boating and fishing are superb. Comedies are usually more popular for syndication you can see how much/how well shows like Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, and Everybody Loves Raymond do in syndication. Procedural shows like CSI and NCIS do well too, because it easy for people to watch one episode here or there. Complex, serialized shows such as Lost, or How to Get Away with Murder don necessarily end up in syndication due to this.. Ugh, same boat. My hair is curly but i just don like how it looks at this length so i straighten then curl it. Basically what i do is after washing, load up on leave in conditioner (i use shea moisture) and brush it with a wet brush while it wet to minimize breakage. I thirty one and about to 과천출장안마 graduate with my masters. I was really frustrated at first too and was hard on myself for taking so long to get there, but looking back, I so glad I got some real world experience first. I also realized I was doing it for myself and not for the people in my program so it wasn helping to compare myself to them.. I know for sure, because he sent me a private message, that one guy was hanging around to cause dissent with crap like that. I said something that riled him enough to "come out" to me so we could debate. LOL I sent his info to the mods and he deleted both accounts. When applying primer, use the same technique you use to apply moisturizer. Put a small amount of primer on the back of your hand, and then dab a makeup sponge into the gel and apply it to your face using sweeping motions. Wait a few minutes for the gel to sink into your skin before applying your next layer of makeup.

Will we now commit to saving the Northwest’s orcas? A task force meets Tuesday
Lynda V. Mapes - August 6, 2018
Scientists say saving the southern resident orcas is going to take a variety of solutions, from quieting vessel noise to fishing cutbacks, to restraint on development in what habitat remains for salmon and even breaching the lower Snake River dams.
Will the sad spectacle of a mother orca clinging to her dead calf day after day and the urgent decline of a dying 4-year-old in her same family spark real action to save a species from extinction, or will it just be more business as usual?
A task force on orca recovery, convened by Gov. Jay Inslee, will meet Tuesday in Wenatchee for the first time since the whales riveted the world’s attention, adding poignant urgency to the panel’s deliberations. It is charged with examining the threats and conditions that have depleted the southern-resident killer whales, and recommending a recovery program.
Stephanie Solien, co-chair of the task force, and vice chair of the Puget Sound Partnership Leadership Council, is convinced the orca mother is making a statement intended to get results.
“It is such a tragic and heartbreaking situation, I honestly believe that Tahlequah is on a mission,” Solien said of J35, the mother orca whale who as of Thursday had carried her dead calf for 10 days and more than 250 miles, refusing to let it go.
The southern-resident killer whales have declined to 75 animals. They rely primarily on chinook salmon for their food — a fish that decision-makers must take big steps to restore if the whales are to survive.
One reason the sight of the mother and her baby — and the dying 4-year-old — have been so hard to watch is because of people’s own knowledge, deep down, that we are connected to their plight, said Jason M. Colby, history professor at the University of Victoria, and author of the book “Orca: How we Came to Know and Love the Ocean’s Greatest Predator” (Oxford, 2018).
“She has made the most powerful and eloquent statement of any of us by far,” Colby said. “We know on a fundamental level, or we should know, that this is caused by us, that the pain she is experiencing and showing and the hunger they are experiencing is the result of hard decisions we haven’t made. We did this.”
Food is the priority
Solutions include quieting vessel noise, fishing cutbacks, restraint on development in what habitat remains for salmon, and more money to fix what is destroyed. Even breaching the lower Snake River dams to open up passage to some of the last best habitat in the region — that’s all got to be on the table if the whales are to survive, scientists say. The most urgent need, they agree, is food.
“There is no question the whales are starving,” said Sam Wasser, director of the Center for Conservation Biology at the University of Washington. His research has linked miscarriages in the whales to lack of food, especially chinook.
Scientists know from analysis of the whales’ scat that they target chinook salmon returning to the Columbia and Snake system in the early spring to sustain themselves until the Fraser River runs start later in the year.
“These are the fatty chinook these whales are incredibly dependent on,” Wasser said. “These dams are impacting them at a critical place and time before they even hit Haro Strait, where we are also seeing big declines of chinook in the Fraser River.
“The bottom line is, it all comes down to salmon.”
Some scientists are dismayed that a few of the early solutions being discussed — from shooting sea lions to producing more hatchery fish — won’t help and could even make the situation worse.
“Shooting sea lions is a knee-jerk response,” said Ken Balcomb, a member of the task force and founding director of the Center for Whale Research in Friday Harbor. “A natural ecosystem that functions is what we need.”
According to the Center for Whale Research, an 8,000-pound pregnant orca must eat about 4 to 5 percent of her body weight every day — 320 to 420 pounds of suitable prey. Mostly that’s chinook.
If the southern residents don’t get food fast, they will keep losing mothers and their babies, Balcomb said.
“Then it’s over. You will still have whales going around, but it will just be a few grandmothers and old guys.” The population will be functionally extinct, he said.
Debate over dams
Jaime Smith, spokeswoman for the governor, said all options are open for consideration as the task force deliberates.
The 45-member panel, plus two co-chairs, is composed of state, local and tribal government officials as well as representatives from nonprofits and industry trade associations. The panel is charged with delivering draft recommendations to the governor by Oct. 1, and a final report by Nov. 1. This is to provide time to mount a recovery program based on those recommendations to take to the state Legislature, Smith said.
Recommendations are required to identify and address all of the major threats to southern residents, including prey availability, toxic contaminants and disturbance from noise and vessel traffic.
But the very size of the panel can be a curse, said Joseph Bogaard, executive director of the nonprofit Save Our Wild Salmon. “Its strength is also its weakness,” he said of the task force. “It is very hard to get decisions out of such a big group.”
The sheer number of problems — and necessary solutions — and controversy they are sure to engender is daunting. The whales feed on chinook from a broad geography, from rivers in Puget Sound to the trans-boundary waters of the Salish Sea and Columbia and Snake rivers.
The debate over taking down the lower Snake River dams has festered for more than 20 years, amid opposition from irrigators, dryland wheat farmers, shippers and utilities wedded to the status quo. Federal judge Malcolm Marsh in 1993 rejected the feds’ claim that the dams pose no jeopardy to salmon.
“The process is seriously, significantly flawed because it is too heavily geared towards a status quo that has allowed all forms of river activity to proceed in a deficit situation — that is, relatively small steps, minor improvements and adjustments — when the situation literally cries out for a major overhaul.”
Marsh wrote that 25 years ago — before Tahlequah, now 20, was even born.
The litigation continues, with the fifth, most-recent federal decision on the matter in 2016 calling for a redo of the science and plan for river operations that looks at all alternatives to protect salmon, including Snake River dam removal — a process that won’t conclude for years.
“I guess I am just wondering if we have the courage to act rather than just talk,” said Rick Williams, a fisheries ecologist at The College of Idaho who with other scientists published a recent report on the need for wild salmon and protected habitat to support them. “The reality is that falls into the social and political and economic landscape, more than the biologic. The debate focuses on uncertainty to stall action, but we really have enough science.”
To some, the problem facing the orcas is no different from that confronting an unhealthy person. Quick fixes are only that; treating symptoms without addressing the underlying causes won’t be enough.
“I liken it to a patient in a hospital,” said Joe Gaydos, a member of the task force, veterinarian and director of the SeaDoc Society, a nonprofit conservation group. “You’ve had a heart attack. You have to triage the situation, but you also have to talk about lifestyle changes, like changing your diet and quitting smoking and exercise.”
To him, shooting sea lions or producing more hatchery fish isn’t the answer.
Even beyond the animal-welfare issue, killing sea lions could have unintended consequences in a complicated, interconnected food web, Gaydos said. Scientists have long documented that hatchery fish compete for space and food with wild salmon and can interbreed with them, weakening their genetics. They also can be vectors of disease.
Today’s threats
While hatchery fish may have a role in providing food for the short term, just pushing out more and more of the fish ignores history: The region has been flooding its waterways with hatchery fish for decades, and still the orcas decline.
“From my point of view, it’s exactly the wrong thing to do, pump out more hatchery fish,” said Jack Stanford, professor emeritus at the Flathead Lake Biological Station at the University of Montana.
“The sea lions are there because we are giving them this huge subsidy of hatchery fish. And the return on investment just is not there,” Stanford said. “These fish are so maladapted, who knows what happens to them, but they go into a black hole.”
Wild fish and the habitat to sustain them are what’s needed, Stanford said — something scientists have been saying for a long time. “But the orcas might be like some of us scientists, we just are not listened to.”
Former Washington Secretary of State Ralph Munro, when he was an aide to then-Gov. Dan Evans, worked in 1976 to stop what he helped make sure was the last capture of killer whales for aquariums ever in Washington waters.
He said the whales that he and others fought to save now face a mortal struggle from threats less obvious than the nets and captors who once pursued them. Now, it’s the day-to-day activities and ordinary desires of millions of people that have put the southern residents on the brink of extinction.
“I hope that mother’s attachment to her baby has woken people up, and that people realize the lives of these animals are about over,” Munro said.
“We have to fix every single culvert that blocks salmon runs, we have to stop chinook fishing, people have to step back,” he said. “Or we are going to lose one of the greatest gifts God ever gave us.”

The Selkie Godmother
Because Wednesday is clean up the fish tank day. Originally posted on AO3, my personal favorite, the fic with nothing happening in it. Originally posted on AO3
She wasn’t in the habit of letting herself in, but here she was, sliding her key into the slot. Mulder was home, she could hear the tv on.
“It’s open!” He called from the living room “come on in!”
Scully took off her coat and left it on a chair by the table. A little surprised "Hi" was all she could manage. Seeing him doing something other than reading or watching TV was rare to say the least.
Mulder stood with his arms elbows deep in the fish tank and it looked as if he was vacuuming it. A clear tube with a small pump on one end, now stuck inside a bucket on the chair, and the other one in his hand slowly roamed inside the tank. She came closer and indeed the water was flowing into the bucket, sucked up through the tube together with all kinds of filth that gathered at the bottom. The water smelled of life and decay, like a river or a lake.
“Wow, I think it’s the first time I’ve caught you cleaning up, Mulder”
“Well, it’s impolite to do it in front of a guest”
“It’s also impolite not to do it at all” she teased him back.
“Hey, look around, you see any clothes or shoes laying around?” She did look around, the place was actually cleaned up, more than usual. Mulder’s place wasn’t a disaster most days, it looked more carelessly lived in than messy.
“No” she said uncertain “are you expecting someone?”
“You caught me in the middle of this one last thing, and yes, I am and she’s here” he smiled and nudged her with one elbow, then took out the tube from the tank, apparently satisfied with the result.
He turned to the desk and took a clear plastic bag, tied off with a rubber band and placed it gently in the now half empty tank. A pretty white and orange goldfish was shaking her fins and the new arrival caught attention of other tenants. The fish nudged the bag with their snouts and it bobbed as if the fish were playing volleyball.
“You bought a new one?”
“Yeah, you like it?” she let him through and they switched places.
“She’s very pretty”
Reaching into the bucket, he opened the filter he must have placed there earlier, and squeezed out the sponge that was hidden inside, rinsing it in the water he drained from the tank.
“You have to wash everything in the same water to keep the bacteria intact” he explained as she watched him “the plants create oxygen, and suck up the ammonia and co2 from the fish, and all you have to do is add food and change a portion of the water every week”
“Wow, you do know something about keeping fish”
“Come on, I’ve been keeping them for years, guess how many I’ve lost”
“I don’t know, three maybe?” Mulder burst out laughing.
“I’m not that good, seven over five years”
“Only seven?”
“Well, seven I’ve found dead, I’m not counting the cannibalism”
“Dear Lord” she faked horror and looked back to the fish playing with the bag.
“It’s a jungle in there, Scully” he chuckled “I’ll get more water”
He came back from the kitchen a moment later with a large pot and set it on the coffee table, she could see a thermometer floating inside.
“Okay, 75 degrees, that’s how much we have inside the tank so we can ad it” she let him through again and watched as he poured the water over the root in the middle of the landscape.
“Why?” She started but he answered before she could finish.
“This way I don't kick up the sand as much” the water was much clearer now, even without the light over the tank that doubled as his night light. “That should do it, hand me the filter”
Scully stuck her hand into the bucket and fished out the rectangular box. He hid it in the corner behind the plants and switched it on, small ripples appeared on the surface and the bag slowly started to spin.
“Now it’s your turn little guy” taking the bag out again Mulder turned to her “Come here, Scully”
He stepped back making room for her by the tank. “Why?” She looked puzzled but took his place.
“There’s a fish net on the desk behind you, take it, and hand me the scissors” she found both and watched him lift the bag, looking at the fish inside then, at her.
“Think about a name”
“What?”
“You’re going to be his godmother”
“Okay” she agreed a little skeptical but smiling none the less “what should I do?”
“I’ll open the bag and once he’s out and inside the net, you’ll put him in the tank”
“That’s all?”
“You can shout his name while you’re at it, if you want”
“What for?”
“Just kidding, you’re ready?”
She put the net over the bucket and nodded, a little excited. “Do it”
Mulder cut the bag, puncturing the balloon, and holding it by the corner tipped its’ contents slowly over the net. The little fish inside looked around, unsure when this torture is going to end. The water flowed, along with it’s life, goodbye cruel world the little fish thought.
“You’ve got that name?” Mulder asked teasing again.
“I’m not shouting his name, Mulder” the water was almost gone.
“NOW!” She jumped as the little body fell out of the bag and the slight weight of it landed in her hand, it was moving.< br /> “Cover it," Mulder laughed "move Scully, he’ll jump out! Move!”
She squealed as the fish jumped and touched her hand just before she stuck the net inside the tank and back in water, and suddenly, just like that, it was over.
“Try to shake him out, gently” she heard him right behind her, watching her hands, when he crooned “There he is.”
Feeling a hand at the small of her back, she followed and they both knelt down to look inside the tank. Mulder reached for the cover, placed it over the glass and switched the lamp on, illuminating the tiny world inside.
They both admired the small, puffy balloon of a fish, his fins long and flowing with every move like translucent vales, gold and white. The old fish looked at their new roommate curiously, circling each other and rediscovering their home, peaceful for the next seven days.
Scully looked at the fish as if she saw them for the first time. It felt a little alien but the tank's occupants weren’t as mindless as she once thought, they were curious and scared, but also carefree and happy. Two smaller, slender fish were already chasing each other around the tank.
“So, what’s his name?” Mulder pulled her out of her reverie, his arm still around her.
“Olie” She smiled looking up.
“Olie, friend with the mollies” he pointed to the two fish that chased each other a minute ago, now chasing the new guy.
“Heeeyy” she protested tapping the glass, a little frown on her forehead.
“Don’t worry, they’re not gonna hurt him” he got up, leaving her with half of a reassuring hug and started gathering the equipment.
“Why did I never see you do this before?” Scully asked moving over to the couch to watch the fish more comfortably.
“I usually do it at night, when I can’t sleep” he replied simply.
“Your fish have insomnia too?” That made him laugh.
“I don’t think so, but they keep pretty odd hours, that’s for sure” She heard the water in the kitchen as he washed his hands and went to do the same.
“So what brings you here on such a fine evening Scully?” Mulder asked, drying his hands as she walked in.
“It’s not important anymore”
When her tone turned evasive it was usually something interesting "Tell me”
“Well, I have a reservation at this new restaurant I wanted to check out, but my mom canceled on me and…”
“What restaurant?”
She looked at him over her shoulder, water flowing over her hands “Fish and sea food” and they both laughed.

    Dear Crappie Fisherman,
The story I’m about to tell you contains the most important crappie fishing secret you’ve ever heard… and it might even change your life:
When the landmine exploded, and the shrapnel ripped into U.S. Marine (and master crappie fisherman) Joel Adam’s legs… his life changed forever.
As he lay broken and bleeding on the battle-torn ground of Grenada, he could only think of friends and family… his long hard life of “surviving”, and…
The Thousands Of Crappie He’d Caught Over 52 Years…
At that moment, he would have given anything to be in his favorite fishing spot… hauling in a “barn door sized” 3½ pound crappie with his buddies — like he’d been doing his whole life.
You see, Joel Adams was “born” with a crappie rod in his hand. I mean this literally because…
His Mom Gave Birth To Him While Fishing Rock Creek Lake In Dallas, Texas!
(Click the green play button to hear Joel tell it)
It’s a safe bet that any lady who goes into labor while she’s fishing, probably teaches her son to catch fish before he can walk.
His parents were die hard crappie fishermen.
And they showed him every secret in their bag of tricks.
A bag of tricks stuffed with old country crappie fishing techniques, strategies, and secrets handed down through generations of survivalists and master fishermen.
His parents came from an inner crappie fishing brotherhood… and the inside secrets they taught Joel made him a fishing “prodigy” at a young age.
But teaching Joel about fishing was about the only positive thing they did for him.
He grew up in an abusive household, and…
He Ran Away When He Was 13 To Escape The Pain… And Live In The Wild!
When the abuse got bad enough, he ran away. He decided he’d have a better chance out in the wilderness… alone.
(Click the green play button to hear Joel tell it)
… and that’s when his skill for catching monster crappie shot to another level completely.
He Survived On Self-Caught Crappie, And A Little Help From His Friends…
When you’re living in the wilderness at 13 years old… in a small tent… scared and alone… and the only thing you really know how to do is catch fish — you do it.
But there’s one problem.
Fish Don’t Always Bite.
… and when you’re not getting a single bite, you’ve gotta get “creative” — especially when you’re getting hungry.
Joel was forced to modify his techniques… doctor-up his baits… learn how a crappie thinks.
He discovered unique methods of triggering strikes, even when it seemed nothing would work.
Quitting wasn’t an option. Joel went to any means necessary to catch his next meal.
Even If It Meant Breaking The Law
Now, I’m not saying he broke the law… I’m just saying that some of Joel’s best techniques are so sneaky, so ruthless… and so effective for hauling in huge crappie — that the department of fish and game doesn’t know enough to shut them down.
My guess is: if they knew about a few of his “dirtier” techniques, they’d ban ’em immediately.
Luckily most of his stuff is just super sneaky, and perfectly legal. (But his “dark side” crappie fishing tactics are here if you want them. Use them at your own risk…)
Bottom line: his secrets work like gangbusters. Joel is living proof of this because…
He Survived.
He stayed alive in the bush for 3 years.
He never took help from his grandmother, even when she offered to take him in.
But she knew he couldn’t keep going like that. So she had her “friends” pull some strings to get him into the Marine Corps a little “early”… on Joel’s secret death wish.
(Click the green play button to hear Joel tell it)
He was an emotionally damaged kid… and he dreamed of getting killed in the military, so he could die a hero.
He almost did when the landmine crippled him, but Joel defied the odds.
They said he’d never walk again, but the same determination he used to survive in the wild — even in the bleakest conditions — gave him the will and strength to walk again.
He even rejoined the military.
That’s when his pure love of fishing took over and…
He Joined The U.S. Navy So He Could Fish All Over The World!
… and fish he did!
His Navy career took him fishing all across the United States — from east to west, and all over the world — including the Mideast and Europe… and even to the mighty Amazon River.
He became a student of fishing again. He made it his primary “R&R mission” to seek out the local fishing gurus in every location he visited… and get their inside secrets for catching the local species.
If it swam in freshwater or saltwater, Joel caught it.
…and every time he got back to the U.S., he’d carefully tweak and test these new techniques… on crappie!
(Joel knows all game fish are predators. Whether it’s a crappie, a bass, a carp, a walleye, or a speckled trout… and all predators have certain tendencies you can exploit.)
He Transformed Into A Crappie Catching Scientist
In fact, he created dozens of completely unique methods for catching crappie — simply by modifying the techniques and presentations he discovered around the world.
But he wasn’t done learning…
He Loved Crappie Fishing To The Point Of Obsession
….and he wanted to take his skill to the next level.
So he crawled deeper inside the mind of a crappie when studying for his Masters Degree in Biology. (He used his G.I. bill to go to college…)
During his research, he closely studied the behaviors of predator fish.
And he used this knowledge to develop new fishing methods that “trigger” different behaviors in crappie.
He’s tested and fine-tuned these deadly techniques over years of fishing… and he’s added them his massive arsenal of crappie catching tricks.
That’s where you come in.
You Don’t Need A Biology Degree To Blow Your Fishing Buddies Away
You just need proven crappie catching secrets from someone who applies science to his obsession…
… someone who’s been a student of catching fish for over 52 years, all over the world. (… and who’s focused all that knowledge on catching crappie in the good ‘ol U.S. of A.)
… someone who lived in the wilderness and had to catch crappie by any means possible, or starve.
someone who was born into the “inside” crappie fishing brotherhood…
…Someone Who Received A Large Sum Of Cash (From Me!) For Every Crappie Fishing Secret He Knows
My name is Dan Eggertsen, and I’ve been in the fishing education business since 2004.
To prove I know what I’m talking about, here’s a screen shot of what you’ll find when searching for “Dan Eggertsen crappie fishing” in Google.
Circled in red at the top of the page, you can see there are 117,000 pages of results!
I don’t show you this to boast or brag. I just want to offer some real proof that when it comes to catching big crappie, I’ve got information that will help you slam ’em at will.
You see, I’m always on the hunt for new (and old) crappie fishing secrets… straight from the mouths of guys hauling in boatloads of fish. (While everyone stares in stunned silence, wondering how they do it.)
Guys like Joel Adams.
… And I Discovered Him By Freak Accident
I was on the phone with a Georgia bait shop owner, and he mentioned an old crappie fishing guru living in the Cohutta wilderness. (in Northern Georgia)
He was talking about Joel, and I was fascinated. So I pulled some strings to get into contact with him… and he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.
We became fast friends, and after digging a few crappie fishing “tricks” out of him — I made a deal to pay money I couldn’t afford, for his entire arsenal of secrets.
So Joel revealed everything… in great detail.
He Spilled His Guts… Along With Every Crappie Fishing Secret He’d Ever Used
… and it took me almost 6 full months to suck this mountain of information out of his brain.
After seeing his techniques work with my own eyes, I’m convinced these tactics can transform any crappie fishermen (of any experience level) into a local crappie catching master.
But don’t take my word for it…
“…I Caught More Crappie In A Single Day Than I Ever Had Before.”
(Click the green play button to hear A.J. tell it)
“Hey Dan, this is A.J. Bellard calling about your Instant Crappie Catching course.
Joel’s crappie fishing techniques are tried and tested… and it’s stuff many people would keep secret if they knew them. He’s been at it a long time, he’s tried so many things, and he is more than qualified to teach.
His “trial and error” techniques have minimized “dead time” out on the water where I’m not catching anything.
For example, I put some of his jigging techniques to the test, and I caught more crappie in a single day than I ever had before.
I had never caught more than just a few in a day… but with Joe’s techniques I caught a mess of them.
I was also impressed with his information on how climate and water conditions change the game. He covered each situation in detail.
He basically gives you a blueprint for how to adapt his techniques for any area of the country, and almost any condition.
Thank you so much Dan.
You’ve provided a wealth of information, and your integrity shines through in all the interviews you conducted with the fishermen in the course.
Just wanted to give you my thoughts.
Have a great day.”
A.J. Bellard Fayetteville, Arkansas
This is A.J. with the first one he caught using Joel’s techniques… the same day he broke his personal record for number of crappie caught!
And when you actually put them to the test…
You’ll Slam Your Limit Of Crappie Almost Every Time… Even When Other Guys Are Struggling
Joel has seen and done it all when it comes to crappie fishing, and he’s got an incredible arsenal of inside secrets for you.
Here are 3 quick examples of 164 different secrets he’ll show you for catching 2, 3, and even 4 times the amount of crappie you’re catching now. (And if you’re not catching any… this stuff will blast your catch count past most fishermen in your area):
“I Caught My Limit In Under 4 Hours!”
(Click the green play button to hear Elliot tell it)
“Dan, this is Elliot Perkins calling to tell you my thoughts on your Crappie Fishing Course.
I can’t tell you how much time this is going to save me.
There are techniques in here I can use to get bites, even when I know there are crappie down there — but they’ve got a bad case of lock jaw.
His techniques work like a charm.
For example, I used one of his fish finder riggings with his vertical jigging technique off the end of a dock.I caught my limit in under 4 hours!
Plus I really enjoyed Joel’s personality. He’s a great guy, and I’d love to fish with him.
I’m very impressed with his strategies and techniques.
Thanks for providing such an amazing resource for crappie fishermen Dan.
Talk to you later.
Elliot Perkins Arlington, Texas”
Elliot’s crappie limit caught off a dock with Joel’s fish finder riggings and vertical jigging technique…
Just imagine the thrill these guys felt when they used Joel’s secrets, and had some of their best crappie fishing trips ever.
There’s nothing like the big “inside smile” you get when you’re the guy ripping crappie out of the water like nobody else… and your buddies give you that jealous stare, before demanding to know what your secret is.
… and the the look on your wife’s face when you casually walk in the house with the biggest stringer of crappie she’s ever seen.
I’m here to tell you this can all happen, because…
He’s Got Crappie Catching Tricks For Any Situation You’ll Find Yourself In…
Including all 4 seasons… whether you fish from a boat or from shore.
Here are just a few of the many secrets Joel will show you for each one of these situations:
Even If You Swear Your Spots Are “Different”…
Joel has fished for crappie from the East Coast to the West Coast, and almost everywhere in between… and he’s faced tons of “dead” spots where people were struggling to get a bite.
Sometimes it took Joel a few hours to “figure it out”. To reach way back into his bag of tricks and find the perfect techniques to find or attract them, put them in “attack mode”, and start triggering strikes like crazy.
Joel knows (as we all do) that a crappie is a crappie, no matter where it is in North America.
Whether it’s winter or spring… whether the water is murky or clear, hot or cold, deep or shallow…
Mother Nature has wired ’em all a certain way. You just need the right techniques and strategies for your specific situation… so you catch the daylights out of them.
And Joel has it all laid out so you don’t even really need to “think”. You’ll have a secret weapon for any situation, and any body of water.
“I’ve used his jig and spinner approaches to fill a big wire basket with crappie… in two hours.”
(Click the green play button to hear Bob tell it)
“Hey Dan, this is Bob Bell.
I’m impressed with the crappie fishing course because it’s all encompassing.
It is also very well written, and could only have been put together by someone with extensive experience.
The information included can save people a lot of time because it lays out proven baits, riggings, and tackle for different locations and times of the year.
Joel sounds like a great guy. He’s believable, and a pleasure to listen to and read.
I’ve used his jig and spinner approaches to fill a big wire basket with crappie by myself in two hours. Of course it took me twice as long, 4 hours, to fillet all of them.
Just wanted to give you some thoughts Dan.
This is an excellent resource I’d recommend to anyone.
Bye.”
Bob Bell Hot Springs Village, Arkansas
An action shot of Bob Bell on the water, the same day he used Joel’s techniques to fill that wire basket with crappie… in 2 hours!
You’ll Even Out-Catch Most Local Guys In Waters You’ve Never Fished Before
Imagine taking a trip to a body of water you’ve never fished before.

“I caught a 3 pounder using his vertical jig fishing techniques with his recommended yellow and black feathered jig!”
(Click the green play button to hear Eddie tell it)
Dan, this is Eddie Carlile calling.
I just wanted to give you some feedback on your crappie course.
I’m very impressed to say the least.
Joel’s got a great personality and he’s very down to earth. Most importantly, he held nothing back.
First of all, Joel has included a set of instructions to find crappie in any area, time of day, and season. There are also guidelines for exactly what presentations to use in your most common situations.
No more aimless searching for crappie. I know exactly where to go, what to look for, and what to use.
Over the weekend I used some of his night fishing techniques with jigs, and we got more bites that usual… and caught a lot more crappie.
I also used one of his jigging techniques to catch 30 in a single day… my best day ever.
But the best thing is… I caught a 3 pounder using his vertical jig fishing techniques with his recommended yellow and black feathered jig!
This course is so thorough that it leaves very little room for question. Other books and courses I’ve seen may touch on something you know nothing about, and leave you hanging without the details you need.
Your kit is very detailed with simple steps so you can understand everything, and execute!
Thanks for putting this together Dan.
Bye.

There’s Nothing Worse Than Sitting For Hours Without A Single Bite…
… after you’ve tried different spots… after you’ve tried every bait you have… and you feel like you’re out there wasting your time.
Sure, some guys will tell you it’s OK if you don’t catch anything. That the most important thing is “getting out into nature”… and it’s not really about catching fish.
I agree with the “getting out into nature” part.
But if you’re like most fishermen, you go out to slam a motherload of crappie. Not spend all day moving… waiting… moving… waiting… without a single bite.
And Joel has all the secrets you’ll ever need to catch your limit quickly.
Secrets like:
… and then after you’ve used these (and many more — you’ll see them below)… and you’re sitting there with a pile of big crappie — then you can sit and enjoy nature… OK?
Just remember: because you’ll be catching lots of crappie consistently…
Almost Every Fisherman You Know Will Beg To Go With You… Even The Kids!
When you discover Joel’s inside strategies for keeping the bite going all day long, your fishing partners will reap the rewards too.
It’s fun as heck catching crappie, and you’ll be the guy everyone wants to fish with — because they’ll catch more with you.
You’ll build tighter lifelong friendships, and the kids will beg to go fishing with you constantly.
Now, it’s possible you already catch more crappie than you can handle. But…
Do You Want To Catch A Monster Crappie? Do You Want To “Own” The Local Record?
If you want to dramatically increase the average size crappie you’re catching… if you want to feel the spine tingling thrill of hauling in a 3 pound plus monster… Joel uses some sneaky tricks to find, attract, target, and trigger an all out attack on your bait from only the biggest crappies in your spot.
His monster crappie catching secrets are “unique” to say the least… and a few of them are downright “weird”.
And I never imagined they’d work this well…
“I have used some of the recommended jigs and techniques outlined in the course to catch our limit of crappie, many of which were over 2 pounds!”
(Click the green play button to hear Deb tell it)
“Hi Dan, this is Deb Lovin.
I wanted to tell you about my experiences with your Instant Crappie Catching Course.
My fishing buddy and I have used some of the recommended jigs and techniques outlined in the course to catch our limits of crappie, many of which were over 2 pounds!
The strategies and techniques in the course can be used by both beginners and seasoned crappie fishermen to increase the number and sizes of crappie they’ll catch.
My experiences with the information prove this out.
Thanks for all this great information, and the many emails you’ve sent me in the past. I believe you sincerely want to help crappie fishermen catch more fish, and get more enjoyment from every trip.
Have a good one, Dan.
Bye.”

“I used one of his recommended soft body swimbaits with a weedless hook, and I caught a 3 pound crappie!”
“Hi Dan, this is Ontario Palmer.
I got your course, and it is excellent.
The information is so good and easy to follow, I feel like I’m fishing with a guide.
Joel has obviously been fishing his whole life for crappie and other species all over the world.
He knows their habits inside and out. And his stories, personality, charm and humor really keeps everything interesting.
In the past, I used one of his recommended soft body swimbaits with a weedless hook, and I caught a 3 pound crappie! At first I thought it was a nice size bass… but once I got it in I realized it was a crappie, and thought I had the state record!
It wasn’t the record, but it was still huge!
I’ve had a limited amount of time to fish lately, but I did get out to try more of his methods, and I caught 13 crappie between a half pound to a pound and a half (and a 7 pound bass) in less than two hours! That’s great for this area.
Dan, I’m impressed with you as a person because you’ve put together this great course, and you truly want to help people. That fact shines through in your interviews.
Have a good day and talk to you soon.”

Catching 100 Crappie In A Single Day Is Impressive… But Hauling In A Trophy-Sized Monster Is “Legendary”…
There’s just something about the fight with that monster crappie… and how he looks as you haul him up out of the water…
… how you’re buddies’ jaws hit the deck when they lay eyes on your prize.
The biggest crappie they (and you) have ever seen.
And it’s yours.
Everyone who sees what you caught will talk about it for years.
And Joel’s got the techniques that will help you feel that thrill. There’s really nothing else like it.
Here’s just 3 of the dozens he’ll show you.
And you can have every secret in Joel’s arsenal, right now…
After 2 Years Of Hard Work, Joel And I Have Completed This Step-By-Step “Instant Crappie Catching Tricks” E-Kit…
The “Instant Crappie Catching Tricks E-Kit” contains every secret Joel Adams has ever used. You’ll receive 6 downloadable manuals, a checklist, and 5 audio interviews with other crappie fishing gurus…
… and it’s unlike any crappie fishing resource I’ve ever seen.
Most crappie fishing books I’ve read are full of some good information… but they’re boring, and it takes forever to read through pages and pages of fluff.
The Instant Crappie Catching Tricks E-Kit is completely different.
Joel is a “no B.S.” type of guy from his years in the military… and from page 1 he jam packs it with hundreds of his best crappie fishing secrets.
No fluff, no filler, “no B.S.”.
You’ll be sucked into his insider crappie fishing world immediately because the information is completely unique…
And You Won’t Find Most If It On The Internet
This is because Joel’s had more crazy fishing experiences than almost anyone out there.
(In fact, I’ve never met anyone else who caught crappie for food while living in the woods at age 13… then fished all around the world in the Navy… then learned about scientific “predator triggers” as a biology major — and used them to catch crappie!)
Plus, every technique is beautifully illustrated and photographed with simple step-by-step instructions, so they are “brain-dead easy” to execute.
Here’s everything you’ll get in just a few minutes:
1. The Instant Crappie Catching Core Secrets Course Manual
The 121 page “Instant Crappie Catching Tricks Core Secrets” manual contains step-by-step instructions for unleashing Joel’s core secrets… including beautiful illustrations and photographs of every step, so you’ll know exactly how to catch more crappie the next time you go fishing.
Here are the secrets you’ll discover inside:
A sneaky system for catching 2 crappie at once with Joel’s brilliant double fish finder rig… with a twist! (This automatically targets the best depth in your spot with 2 baits that appeal to different crappie mindsets… so you almost can’t miss!) How to combine 2 “small fry” baits into a presentation that stimulates a crappies attack instinct… and gets nailed on sight! Why crappie (and bait fish) only swarm to certain fish attracting rocks… and how to locate these crappie “magnets” quickly and easily. (The best part is: once you find one, crappie will attack almost anything you drop down!) A sneaky method for following bait fish feeding patterns to locate schools of crappie locked in “predator mode”… and discover exactly what they’re waiting to attack. (This makes it easy to find loads of bait fish quickly… and wherever you find bait, you’ll find throngs of crappie!) How to start a scientific chain reaction (and crappie feeding frenzy) in any spot with materials you’ll find in your garage! (Joel discovered this powerful strategy over 30 years ago when fishing by a dam… and he’s figured out how to make it work anywhere.) A quick method for discovering what crappie species lives in your spot… and the exact strategy you’ll use to catch the daylights out of ’em! (Hint: There are only 3 species you’ll need to know about… and Joel will give you a different strategy for each, so you maximize your catches.) (Most guys don’t know what species of crappie they’re fishing for… and now you’ll have the inside edge!) How to fire up the crappie bite any time it dies down with 2 awesome strike stimulators that piss off crappie… and force them to attack! When to use each of Joel’s 4 minnow-hooking strategies to maximize your number of crappie strikes per hour… and increase your number of successful hook sets. 2 secret black crappie baits that trigger instant attacks! (There’s a simple scientific reason black crappie have different tendencies than white crappie… which is why these little-known baits work so well.) How to use Joel’s unique “double fish finder rigging” to serve 2 deadly presentations that destroy crappie at night.
How to make a “sure-fire strike indicator” using a guitar string and a piece of duct tape, so you can instantly detect even the smallest nibble… and catch him!
FACT: You’d be shocked how many crappie bites go completely unnoticed by experienced crappie fishermen every year. If the only thing you use in this course is Joel’s “guitar string strike indicator”, you’ll catch a huge percentage of crappie you would have missed… dramatically increasing your catch count.
A secret “supplement formula” that drastically increases the size of crappie in any private pond. (Joel was in charge of large stock ponds for 10 years on a large ranch in North Texas… and this secret produces a constant supply of trophy crappie in the 2-3 pound range!) How to use flies to trigger jaw-dropping “flying crappie attacks” during the spawn… and get a huge advantage over your buddies. (Joel will show you exactly what flies to use, how to rig them, and how to fish them… for the most thrilling crappie fishing experience of your life!)
How to easily predict daily crappie movement patterns based on the time of year… so you know exactly where they’ll be before they get there. (Every body of water is different, but Joel will show you his simple method for tracking and targeting crappie, so you’re always on top of them… even when the other fishermen aren’t.)
3 simple steps for finding the perfect “PH level” that big crappie love in your body of water… so you quickly hunt them down while other guys are wandering around aimlessly. (Most fishermen don’t even know about using water PH levels to find the big ones… and now you’ll have a huge inside edge!)
How to “light line” small sinking crankbaits during the pre-spawn so you slam crappie hand over fist… before the crowds come! (You’ll follow Joel’s steps to work the crankbait from “shallow to deep”, creating action crappie can’t resist…)
The single biggest secret for catching monster-sized crappie during the spawn… (Hint: this has nothing to do with your bait, tackle, or technique… and it’s a sneaky way to instantly increase the average size crappie you catch by 50%!) A little-known scientific phenomenon that drives crappie into hidden “honey holes” in the fall… and a simple strategy you can use to locate and assault these areas with a system of deadly baits. Joel’s amazing “multi-rod drift rigging system” that presents a variety of specially selected baits (at different depths) to catch crappie like clockwork. (Warning: make sure this one is legal in your area before you do it!) 2 simple “stained water” strategies for quickly discovering the jig types and colors that rile crappie into bite mode. (Murky water conditions dramatically change the effectiveness of every presentation… and now you’ll have 2 systems for finding the big winners!) Joel’s “theory of irregularity” for finding crappie locked into ambush mode… and exactly how to drift a helpless-looking bait in front of their noses, so it gets slammed immediately! How to transfer the force of your “pole jerk” to the hook in such a way that it stabs through the roof of a crappies mouth… for a solid and inescapable hook set! (This fool-proof technique completely bypasses a crappie’s paper thin lips, which are easily torn.) 3 deadly spinner baits that catch crappie like magic when using Joel’s “drop skip” technique. (These connect with subtle changes in a crappie’s mind set after the water has reached its high temperature for the year…) Why using a bobber can completely kill the crappie bite… and a little trick you’ll use to avoid this problem completely. Joel’s “covert operations” presentation that floats in under a crappies defense mechanisms… triggering a strike the instant they see it! (This one pulls amazing results when crappie are sluggish and easily spooked… as long as you’re using an ultra-light rod.) The only rod type you should ever use to catch crappie if you want to reduce the number of fish you lose by half! (Getting this right is extremely important because of crappie’s paper thin mouths, and their tendency to “bite lazy”…) A step-by-step casting technique (for spinning reels) that eliminates 99% of the friction on your line… so your casts fire out like a cannon shot — with pinpoint accuracy. (Imagine watching your casts consistently sailing 10 or 20 feet past your buddies… right into a far away crappie hot zone!)
3 winter “bite zones” that hold small schools of crappie wired to attack a specific jig type… as long as you use a slip float. (Only the best crappie fishermen in the country know about this one… and it’s deadly!)
How to make Joel’s “garbage bag chum” that can attract crappie from over 200 yards away… creating a feeding frenzy in your spot! (You’ll combine a specific type of meat with other special ingredients to quickly draw in hundreds of “ready-to-feed” crappie…) 3 simple steps for building a rod that “automatically” triggers strikes in 5 feet of water or less. (This rod is easy to use, catches crappie in dense cover, and it’s free!) A common outdoor item that can drive crappie away from your spot, and kill the action. (Most guys use this without even knowing…) An inexpensive item that gives you X-Ray vision through the water… so you can see underwater structure, obstacles, and even crappie! (This will give you a huge advantage for finding hidden crappie ambush spots… without using an expensive fish finder.) How to send a crappie attracting “scent trail” from a doctored-up jig that can out catch standard jigs almost 2-1! How to rig an auto-release sinker that saves your tackle, bait, and any hooked crappie when you’re fishing heavy cover. (It will only cost you a nickel, and it’s easy to setup.) Joel’s hot list of “weird” live baits that can out perform minnows by double in certain situations. 4 steps for setting up an “automatic bite indicating bobber” that instantly notifies you of the slightest nibble… and won’t project unnatural line tension to crappie. (Most bobber setups increase the odds of losing fish because they create unnatural tension on your line… causing crappie to release and escape.) A “minnow scales” secret Joel uses to release hundreds of sparkles into the water… triggering the “seek and destroy” instinct wired into every crappies brain. (FACT: when a minnow is attacked, some of it’s scales fall off and attract more crappie. Joel has figured out a simple method you can use to “simulate” this phenomenon… and catch over 100 crappie in a day!) A list of money-sucking fishing products that can also hurt your chances of catching crappie. How to use a common catfish bait to drive crappie into a murderous rampage, so they hammer your bait with a vengeance! How to use “dam currents” to quickly locate crappie holding zones. (You’ll use Joel’s step-by-step system to find them, and drift a “convulsing bait” through the area to trigger quick strikes from the largest crappies in the school!) Joel’s “one size fits all” presentation that can catch huge slabs of crappie in any body of water… in any weather. (IMPORTANT NOTE: this works best around brush, trees, logs, weeds, and man made structure.) How to get all the benefits of boat fishing – without any of the expense! (Joel lays out a simple strategy to fish crappie hot beds only accessible by boats… without owning one.) (Hint: you’ll also use this strategy to move in on crappie in complete silence… and have both hands free to fish while you move.) The “edge retrieval” trick that stimulates quick strikes when everyone else is catching crappie, and you’re struggling. (This one actually gives your bait a special “twist” that attracts immediate interest from crappie.) A 3 step system for stocking private ponds with crappie (and other species) to create one of the most productive fishing holes in your area. (Plus, you’ll get a simple chart that illustrates exactly how to introduce each species, so you build a self sustaining environment huge crappie thrive in for years!) A killer way to finesse any slider jig’s presentation so it attracts crappie with a natural pattern of vibrations. (These vibrations imitate the struggle of a dying bait fish, “ringing the dinner bell” for crappie.) Why certain weedless jigs actually prevent crappie from latching on… and a simple modification you must do to maximize the number of crappie you catch with them! How to “attach” an unbeatable color combination to any Marabou jig, for a wickedly effective presentation they can’t resist. The “dual-jig floatation” secret Joel discovered for catching a quick limit of crappie in any river. A common bass presentation that drastically increases your odds of catching trophy-sized crappie in sunny, clear water conditions. (Hint: this works like a charm because of how natural light reflects off of it underwater.) How to combine the crappie catching powers of inline and french spinners… so you get your limit before some people catch their first fish! Joel’s secret night fishing formula that starts an instant crappie “bait riot”. (Just drop your bait in the middle of the fray to catch 1 crappie a minute for half an hour straight!) 6 “fly baits” that destroy crappie when fished under the surface with a sinker and bobber! (Joel uses this method to “cheat”, and catch all the crappie he can handle in shallow water situations.) And a bunch more!

(Joel will also show you how to harvest over 1,000 worms in an evening too…) 5 “crack fishing” secrets for catching over 100 in a single day during the fall. (You’ll be thrilled when you’re catching 1 crappie every 90 seconds with these simple strategies!) The “quick rip” crappie fishing technique that destroys ’em around lily pads. (Most people only change the obvious one… but if you do all 3 you’ll bang more winter crappie than almost anyone.) 4 simple steps for building a mass crappie attracting structure at the bottom of any lake or river… so you have a secret crappie hot spot you can milk for years! (No, you won’t be dropping down chum bags, christmas trees, or special bushes. Sure they work, but this works 10 times better — and hardly anyone knows about it…) How to create a crappie hot bed that produces spawn-like crappie action in the fall… with tomato stakes! An unusual parasite that can drive a school of crappie into a wild feeding frenzy! A systematic deep water fishing method that automatically discovers the perfect combination of presentation, depth, and technique for triggering the most strikes. (This automatically adapts to a crappies’ state of mind based on the current conditions… and it’s absolutely brilliant!)
A secret crappie fishing system Jerry discovered in the early 1980’s when he used a 9 foot fly fishing rod, a bobber, and a special jig to catch dozens of crappie between 1 ½ to 3 pounds… at will! (He’ll show you how to adapt this strategy to a standard crappie rod and trigger spin reel… so you fill your stringer with monsters.)

(Then, you’ll rig a tiny round bobber from your boat… and “pump it” for quick bites.) 2 qualities your fishing net must have so it never scares crappie away. (Most nets can kill the action in a spot when they touch the water… but Rob will show you which ones to use, so you avoid this.) How Rob accidentally caught 50 bass over a downed tree when he was crappie fishing… and how you can reproduce this technique to “accidentally” catch your bass limit too! The guy was practically born with a crappie rod in his hand, and he’s gonna tell you everything he knows, like:
BONUS #4: The Master Crappie Fishermen Secret Interviews Volume 4: Jim Rice
Jim is just an old country boy who’s been a crappies’ worst enemy since he was 6 years old.
And he’s always been willing to do whatever it takes to catch his limit — no matter how difficult the conditions are.
(Click the green play button to hear Jim tell it)
In his 1 hour 6 minute interview, you’ll discover:
The #1 mistake almost every beginner crappie fisherman makes that scares the “crap” out of crappie… instantly shutting the bite down. (Even if you’ve been fishing for a few years, there’s a chance you’re making this mistake without realizing it… ) 2 substances Jim uses as “jig dip” that transforms ordinary jigs into crappie attracting magnets! (If you ever wanted to get an inside edge, try “dipping” all your jigs with these the night before…) A “pole switching” tactic that can increase your crappie catch count by over 30%! How create the illusion your presentation is a mortally wounded baitfish struggling to survive, with a simple jig hook modification. (This instantly increases your bites, and it only takes a few seconds to setup.) How to catch a whole school of crappie in under 60 minutes by combining 5 deadly presentations! (WARNING: before you follow Jim’s simple instructions, make sure this is legal in your area because you’ll fish 5 poles at once…) How to discover (and follow) hidden “pathways” crappie use to move between forage areas throughout the day… so you have “go to” trolling zones you can hit all day long. A “jig stuffing” secret that stimulates 3 different crappie senses at the same time… so they tear it to shreds, and end up on your hook! (This is designed for soft hollow body jigs… tripling their effectiveness.) A pink curly tailed grub (with silver sparkles) that can catch a limit of crappie almost anywhere. A common deer hunting tactic Jim “modified” for hunting crappie in murky water… to catch them at will. How to change colors on a Charlie Brewer Slider grub to catch crappie 2-to-1 over almost any “out of the box” jig. (Plus, Jim will show you how to rig these killer grubs to pull through heavy cover with ease… so you never get hung up and waste time re-rigging.)
How Jim caught a 2 ¼ pound crappie while he was asleep… with his toe! (He’s going to show you what he did, and how you can reproduce his success to catch 1 monster on almost every trip!)
(Click the green play button to hear Jim tell it)
A secret “dot modification” that instantly turns any inline spinner into one of the most deadly crappie fishing baits you’ll ever use.
A “bait stacking” system for rigging a single line with multiple “super baits” crappie will destroy! (You’ll also use Jim’s bait discovery system to fine tune your presentations… and drive crappie crazy.)
A genius method for rigging any kid’s balloon to “magically” float over the biggest school of crappie in the water… and follow them all day long! (75% of crappie fishing is about finding the fish, and this amazing discovery does it for you… automatically!) A long-lost bait Jim’s father used to become the local crappie fishing legend… and how you can modify any chicken feathered jig to re-create it’s crappie catching “magic”. (This one works best if you rig it 12 inches above a live minnow…) 3 steps for modifying a “shiney hiney” jig to catch the largest crappie in your spot… (It’s modified in such a way that it attracts all the attention from the big boys… so you’re the guy hauling them in!) A little-known crappie bait you’ll find in almost any road ditch (on rainy days) that catches ’em like dynamite!
The big mistake Jim made to lose a 3 pound “wall hanger” crappie he hooked… (Too many guys make this big blunder… and Jim will show you how to avoid it, so you don’t lose your next trophy catch.)
(Click the green play button to hear Jim tell it)
A perfectly legal “crappie trap” that automatically hooks ’em, and reels ’em in for you! (Jim sets out a bunch of these to catch a quick limit while he takes a nap… and you can get everything you need for under $2.)
How to setup any curly tailed grub so it does a natural “wiggle dance” that draws crappie in… forcing involuntary attacks.
How Jim’s old fishing buddy out caught him 3 crappie to 1 with a hollow body jig, an ultralight rod, and a weird (but effective) technique… (Jim forced his buddy to show him the secret, and he’s used it ever since!)
(Click the green play button to hear Jim tell it)
Fuzzy little “candy baits” all species of freshwater game fish hammer with reckless abandon… especially crappie! (If you haven’t tested these against minnows in your spots, you could be missing out on a huge advantage… and Jim will show you how to get them for free!) And more deadly crappie catching strategies…
BONUS #5: The Master Crappie Fishermen Secret Interviews Volume 5: Joel Adams
Since Joel is one of the most interesting guys I’ve ever met, I want you to get to know him through this special interview I did with him recently.
In it he tells the amazing story of his life, including: his childhood, his military career, and most of his wildest adventures and fishing experiences.
You’ll love it.
Here’s what he’ll tell you:
Why he got chased off the Egyptian Pyramids while in the Marines during Operation Blast Furnace. (Hint: this has to do with a popular children’s toy, the “Slinky”.) How he survived falling overboard into a huge school of feeding piranha… without getting a single bite. (He was fishing with a guide service in South America when a huge fish he hooked suddenly turned and pulled him out of the boat.) How he escaped torture by a band of angry Bedouins in Alexandria, Egypt… and why they let him go after burning his tongue with a hot spoon! How he successfully received 3 scholastic degrees: a PhD in Theology, a Doctorate in Naturopathy, and a Masters Degree in Biology. (It’s the Masters in Biology Joel credits for his uncanny ability to catch crappie like almost nobody else…) The only technique (and bait) Joel would use if he had to catch 100 crappie in a single day.. or die! (This one actually combines a secret “tied fly” with a marabou jig and a spinning rod… and it’s Joel’s “go to” method in almost any situation.) How he narrowly escaped attack by 3 hammerhead sharks that knocked him to the ground on the beach when he was fishing for speckled trout. How he mastered 12 different musical instruments…including guitar. (His favorite music includes oldies rock ‘n roll, old country, and bluegrass.) How (and why) Joel got into the Marine Corps under age. (He ran away from home at 13 years old to escape an abusive household… and he lived in the woods for 3 years.) How he brings hope to millions with his good work at the American Cancer Society, the U.S. Forestry Service, the March of Dimes, and the local prisons.
How a small idea transformed into an amazing A-to-Z crappie fishing course filled with Joel’s unique secrets.
(Click the green play button to hear Joel tell it)
The single reason Joel was able to catch crappie from the east coast, to the west coast… and everywhere in between.
How he saved 35 people from death by the time he turned 18. (He did it all in a 5 year period in the Civil Air Patrol… and he got 5 prestigious civil defense awards.) The key role Joel played when he helped retrieve a U.S. destroyer that was captured by the North Koreans. (This all happened when he was in the 5th Marine, 3rd recon battalion.)
Joel’s military adventures in Grenada, Beirut, and Operation Eagle Claw in 1980.
How he caught a 35 pound carp with a kite string, a hook, and a piece of bread. (He was only 4 years old, and the thing nearly pulled him into the water!
(Click the green play button to hear Joel tell it)
How Joel ended up in a small town with a population of 20. (He still lives there, and it’s only connected to the rest of the world by a small dirt road…)
The full story of how Joel stepped on a landmine in Grenada and was told he’d never walk again. (He proved them all wrong… and even went back on active duty.) How Joel shattered his knee and hip in 1999 and was told he’d be a cripple… and how he proved them all wrong… again. And more wild and crazy stories…
BONUS #6: The Master Crappie Fishermen Interview Transcripts And Workbook
This manual contains full transcripts of all 5 interviews, so you can read everything you heard.
This way you won’t miss a thing, and you’ll easily absorb all the techniques these crappie masters reveal.

Just fill in the blanks to make sure you “get” each secret.
BONUS #7: Simple Step-By-Step Solutions For The Most Frustrating Crappie Fishing Problems Q&A Manual
This manual contains solutions to 34 of the most common crappie fishing problems and mistakes.
I’ve been keeping a log (over the last 5 years) of the major crappie catching “sticking points” and “slip ups” being made over and over again. Things that prevent people from catching lots of crappie.
Joel addresses each problem area and presents a solution for each… complete with detailed steps and illustrations.
Just follow the information in this manual to remove unknown barriers that may be hurting your ability to catch crappie.
Here’s what you’ll discover:
BONUS #8: The Quick And Delicious Crappie Recipes Of A Gourmet Chef
Joel graduated from Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona, interned at K-Pauls in New Orleans, and owned his own restaurant in Key West, Florida.
The bottom line is: he’s a gourmet chef, and he’s put 30 of his best crappie recipes into this cooking manual titled, “The Quick and Delicious Crappie Recipes of a Gourmet Chef”.
Heck, just a couple of these delicious meals (using crappie you caught with his techniques) can more than pay for the course.
Just some of the delicious recipes included are:
Whew… that’s a lot of stuff.
…and the main course (including all 8 bonuses) will be yours today for a low price that may surprise you.
Why The Instant Crappie Catching E-Kit Is Not $149.95 Today… And Why It’s Way Less…
My plan for this course has always been to print and bind it into 5 manuals and workbooks, along with 5 physical CD’s.
But before I pay thousands of dollars to have 100 courses printed (the printing company has a 100 unit minimum), I had to make sure there was demand for this information.
So I put the entire course into files you can download to your computer quickly and easily.
That way I won’t have to pay any printing costs (for now)… and you can get the whole course for the low price of $39.95. Plus you can start using the techniques immediately.
Today, you’ll get immediate access to the entire Instant Crappie Catching Tricks E-Kit in it’s digital form. It includes:
…and these 8 free bonus gifts:
That’s $339.50 of value when you add it up.
Now, when the physical version of the kit is ready for shipping, I’ll give my customers a discounted price of $149.95 + $19.95 shipping and handling.
But, today, you’ll only pay $39.95 because you’ll download everything. (there are no physical printing costs… and you won’t pay any shipping and handling.)
The response to this offer from crappie fishermen (and women!) of all experience levels is making my head spin… not only because hundreds of fishermen are ordering, but because of the amazing feedback I’m getting:
“…we caught over 100 crappie each after throwing all the small ones back.”
(Click the green play button to hear Tip tell it)
Hello Dan, this is Tip Quillin calling you about your new crappie kit.
It’s a great resource for many reasons. First, because it gets into the actual nuts and bolts of “how to” do things.
Most books and magazines don’t break things down into easy to follow steps.
Second the course gives you all the tools you need to be prepared for almost any situation that comes along. It gives you multiple”plan B’s to add to your arsenal.
I also think Joel has a great personality, and he’s so likeable it makes it easy to go through the course. He’s a natural born teacher.
I actually used one of his jig baiting strategies to get the bite going again after we thought it had died completely.
Both of us caught our limits after we started using the technique.
To be honest, we caught over 100 crappie EACH after throwing all the small ones back.
I just wanted to tell you what I thought of the course Dan. It is exactly what you say it is.
Thanks a lot, and have a nice day.

“…One Of The Crappies Was The Biggest I’d Ever Caught…”
(Click the green play button to hear Ralph tell it)
“Hi Dan this is Ralph Wheeler calling.
I got your Instant Crappie Catching Tricks Course the other day, and I was very impressed with the information included.
I used some of the methods Joel laid out in the Advanced Course Manual to catch 36 crappie in a day, which is the most I’ve ever caught at one time.
It was the jig sizing system and minnow drifting techniques that did it.
I’m also happy to report that one of the crappies was the biggest I’d ever caught. It was just over a pound, which is very good for this area.
I’ve had a lot of rough fishing days in my past, but since I got the course I know exactly how to find them using the crappie location system included.
The course is exactly what you say it is!
Thanks a lot Dan.
Bye.”

“The jig presentation and color guide section of the kit was pure gold…”
(Click the green play button to hear Mark tell it)
Hi Dan, this is Mark Bellsuth calling about your crappie fishing course.
The course is like no other combination of books I’ve ever seen. There is so much information any crappie fisherman can use to make a trip successful.
It illustrates, step-by-step, many unique methods of attracting crappie and turning them into aggressive predators, even if they seem hesitant to bite at first.
The jig presentation and color guide section of the kit was pure gold, and I can see how this information will create more opportunity for crappie strikes too.
I used some of the drift/jig patterns in the course, with a live minnow to catch my biggest crappie ever.
It was 15 inches, big for my area and experience. I actually thought it was a small catfish at first because of the fight.
I caught it on a drop-off.
I’m impressed with your information Dan, and you’ve proven yourself a trustworthy person by the amount of information you’ve supplied.
I have no doubt you are a true sportsman that wants to share successful techniques with all of us.
Just wanted to tell you what I thought. Have a good day.
Mark Bellsuth Michigan City, Indiana
Why is Mark happy? He’s got all the tools he needs to catch crappie anytime he wants, thanks to Joel’s techniques.
If it’s hard for you to part with $39.95 (even though you’ll be saving $110 plus the $19.95 shipping charge everyone else will pay for the printed course), I understand.
Times aren’t always easy, and most of us have felt a “cash crunch” at one time or another. That’s one of the main reasons I’m offering a downloadable (and more affordable) option first.
Of course, as a small business owner selling educational fishing products, I want to sell more of these kits. And setting a low price of $39.95 is accomplishing that goal.
But the biggest reason for the discount is: when you have Joel’s brilliant crappie fishing secrets in your hands, I’ll feel good when I hear about all the fish you’re catching.
I’ll be thrilled to hear how the secrets of a real American Hero (and all the other guys on the interviews) helped you catch your biggest crappie ever… and how good he tasted!
Crappie Are Darn Good Eatin’ Too — “Save” Your Money Back After Just 2 Crappie Meals
Remember, you’ll also receive Joel’s gourmet crappie recipe book for free. (On top of everything he’s done, he’s also a gourmet chef… he even owned his own restaurant down in Florida for a few years.)
So if you’re trying to justify spending $39.95 (or you know your wife will give you hell for it…), just print out Joel’s recipe book and say, “Honey, I’m going out to catch a bunch of crappie with an old U.S. Marine’s fishing secrets… and when I come back we’ll cook ’em up and eat ’em… for free.”
It’s easy to see how just 1 or 2 of these gourmet crappie dishes (using crappie you caught) will more than pay for the $39.95 you spend on the course today.
And if you make a habit of it (why wouldn’t you? …crappie is delicious!), you could argue that getting the Instant Crappie Catching Tricks E-Kit could save you a lot of money over the years.

The New York Water Crisis That Nobody’s Talking About
Charlie Parker stood at the edge of the pond, his fishing rod in hand. He cast his lure into the air, landing it about 30 feet away in the dark water. His fishing rod made a clicking sound as he reeled the lure back to shore. If he catches a fish, he’ll have to throw it back, he said.
“I don’t eat them anymore,” Parker said. “They’re contaminated.”
Parker, a retired Army vet, has fished the waters around Newburgh for 20 years. The city sits on the western banks of the Hudson River, about 70 miles north of New York City.
In 2016, the state announced a “catch and release rule” for the pond and six other nearby water bodies, which were contaminated with a chemical no one could pronounce: perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, or PFOS. The fish were no longer safe to eat.
That year, New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation traced the contamination back to Stewart Air National Guard Base, where PFOS-laden fire foam had been used in large fires and firefighting drills since the 1980s.
The chemical had slowly leached into the ground at the base. It flowed into stormwater that was caught in a retention pond that emptied into a stream, which flowed into the local watershed, the pond where Parker fished, and Washington Lake, which held drinking water for 30,000 people.
A city on the edge
PFOS is one of thousands of man-made chemicals known as PFAS, nicknamed “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in the environment.
PFAS poured out of the retention pond and into tributaries that lead to the Hudson River, a source of drinking water for seven riverside communities. U.S. Department of Defense officials did not respond to a request for an interview.
An Air Force official, however, did. “We have to follow the CERCLA process,” said Sara Pastorello, public affairs superintendent of the 105th Air Wing of the Air National Guard. She was talking about the federal law under which hazardous waste sites are cleaned up. “It takes years,” she said.
Newburgh residents had been drinking PFAS-contaminated water for decades following the military’s adoption of AFFF—short for aqueous film-forming foam, a fire foam used to fight fuel fires.
One of them was Peter Smith. In the spring of 2018, the 75-year-old went to his doctor for what he thought was a sinus infection. He had his blood drawn during the visit. “Twenty minutes later, the doctor said, ‘Your kidneys have failed,’” recalled Smith. He was rushed from the doctor’s office straight to the hospital.
Tumblr media
Longtime resident of Newburgh Peter Smith believes that his kidney disease "was caused by the water."
Thick tubes full of blood flowed in and out of his left arm and into a dialysis machine on a recent Wednesday. He undergoes dialysis three times a week. He’s on a strict, renal diet; he avoids dairy, salt, and citrus fruit. He takes a “fistful of pills” twice a day, he said.
“I used to camp and hike,” said Smith, a member of a local environmental group. “Now, I can’t be away for more than two days from a dialysis machine.”
Numerous studies have linked kidney disease to PFAS exposure. Still, Smith says he can’t be certain whether his kidney disease is related. “You get to a certain age and your body starts to give out,” he said, “Shit happens.”
And yet, he said, “My gut feeling is that it was caused by the water.”
Roxy Royal, 89, is another longtime Newburgh resident. “You think about what you’ve been drinking and what it’s done to your body,” said Royal, who manages kidney and thyroid problems. “We’ve been drinking it so long, whatever it’s done to our bodies, it’s too late.”
Royal sipped coffee in the kitchen at Mount Carmel Church of Christ on a snowy Sunday. Church singers sang full-throated gospel songs during a service later that morning. Congregants stood to their feet to offer words of praise, their hands raised above their heads in deep worship.
Tumblr media
Whatever the drinking water has done to their bodies, "it's too late," said Newburgh resident Roxy Royal.
The church sits just outside of the city, which has seen its share of strife: crime, gang wars, unemployment, and budget woes, among them. The population is 50 percent Latino and 30 percent Black. Roughly a third of residents live at or below the federal poverty line.
Like Flint, Michigan, Newburgh is an old industrial city with water issues that have dragged on for years. In the late 1990s and 2000s, cases of children with high blood lead levels surged. In 2005, Newburgh reported 103 new cases of children with blood lead levels at or more than 10 micrograms per deciliter—twice the current action level.
It was the highest number of cases in the state that year. A concerted effort between local government and non-profits eventually brought those levels down. (There is no safe blood lead level in children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to affect attention, IQ, and academic performance.)
In recent years, the city has undergone changes. Unable to afford skyrocketing costs in New York City, a slew of artists and entrepreneurs moved in to open restaurants and art studios. But the water contamination was bad for business, said Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey.
“The water contamination has definitely affected our city economy in a negative way,” Harvey said, citing spooked investors, an exodus of families, and lost sales of raw water to neighboring towns.
More important than the economic fallout is the potential impact on the health of the city’s citizens, he said. “For them to drag their feet and take their time when humans are dealing with this contamination in their bodies day after day is a tragedy,” the mayor told me early last year. “It‘s a human atrocity.”
Forever chemicals in the body
In 2016, the state Department of Health spearheaded a bio-monitoring program to test the blood of Newburgh residents for PFOS. What they found was that city residents had elevated levels of the chemical in their blood—roughly five times the national average.
In fact, PFAS are so persistent, most Americans have at least small amounts in their blood.
These chemicals are bioaccumulative, with a half-life of three to nine years in the human body. The longer the exposure, the more the chemicals build up in the body.
After the contamination surfaced in 2016, the city switched its water source to the Catskill Aqueduct, a major water source for New York City. Newburgh has had clean drinking clean water since.
“The main environmental exposure has stopped,” said toxicologist Dr. Gary Ginsberg, director of the Center for Environmental Health for the state Department of Health. Aside from drinking water, people can be exposed to PFAS through food and food packaging, he added.
Tumblr media
Newburgh's population is 50 percent Latino and 30 percent Black.
PFAS are highly valued for their resistance to heat, oil, and water. They’re found in non-stick cookware, stain-resistant carpets and sofas, waterproof clothes and rain gear, food packaging, pizza boxes, paper to-go containers, and even dental floss. Unlike other chemicals, they’re not broken down by sunlight and other forms of weathering.
Exposure to PFOS specifically has been linked to high cholesterol, immune system problems, and hormone disruption, among other conditions. “The most consistent findings are the effects on the immune system,” Ginsberg said, including a suppressed response to vaccines.
Studies also show effects on liver function, he said. Human studies on another PFAS chemical, called PFOA, show probable links to testicular and kidney cancer, among other diseases. “We don’t think of them as strong carcinogens, but we don’t rule out that they can contribute to the risk for these diseases,” said Ginsberg.
Reproductive problems
The water has been a source of worry for 32-year-old Argelia Morales Alvarez, who became pregnant shortly after learning about the contamination three years ago. “What does it mean to you in the future, for you, for your baby?” she asked. “None of that was ever made clear.”
The CDC states PFAS may “affect growth, learning, and behavior of infants and older children.” Recent studies have shown PFAS can pass through the placenta and into a developing fetus. More studies show links between PFAS exposure, low birth weight, and reproductive problems in men and women.
Both the CDC and the state DOH are conducting studies to look at local health outcomes following Newburgh’s water crisis. The state is focused specifically on tracking cases of cancer.
“To think that something you did unknowingly, by consuming public water, might negatively impact them for the rest of their life, that's a huge fear,” said Morales Alvarez, speaking of her daughter. The little girl, now 2, appeared to be the picture of health as she climbed atop a rocking horse to watch cartoons while her mother washed dishes.
Morales Alvarez is also healthy. But when she had her blood tested in 2017, the results showed a PFOS blood level that was four times higher than the general U.S. population’s.
But PFAS blood levels alone cannot predict an individual’s health. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry explains, “Having PFAS in your blood does not necessarily mean that you will become ill from PFAS.”
Still, Morales Alvarez resents being exposed to any health risk. “I can't control where I grew up,” the young mother said. “It’s unfair.”
She remembered watching news about the Flint water crisis and comparing it to Newburgh’s. “I think that the most vulnerable populations are the ones that are most affected by this,” she said.
The mayor put it another way. “If you look at the Black and Hispanic demographic in our city, we're a super majority here, just like you have the super majority of people of color in Flint,” he said. “One would wonder if these things are happening coincidentally. Everyone has their opinion.”
He pointed to the city’s lawsuit filed in August 2018 against the U.S. Air Force, the DoD, the state, which owns the property on which the air base sits, and several makers of AFFF fire foam. The city is seeking punitive and compensatory damages, to be determined at trial, which is at least a year away.
“That's the only reason why people are starting to make movements, because we're taking it to the courts,” he said.
Communities of color are often burdened with industrial pollution, said Jacqueline Patterson, senior director of the NAACP’s environmental and climate justice program. “Multiple studies have found that toxic facilities are disproportionately located in communities of color and that communities of color consistently have more contaminated air, water, and even soil contamination,” she said.
The health impacts can be devastating, she said, highlighting high rates of asthma among American Black children. Yet, much of the data centers on air pollution, said Patterson. “There isn't as much in the way of monitoring as it relates to water pollution,” she said.
A national issue
In December, the Army Corps of Engineers installed a temporary filter at the pond long thought to be the chief source of PFAS entering the watershed. The city had been waiting for the filter for almost four years.
Newburgh Clean Water Project, an environmental group on a mission to protect the city’s drinking water, describes the filter as a “promising first step.” But the filter lowers the levels of PFAS coming from the base to less than the EPA’s non-binding health advisory level, said the group’s co-founder Ophra Wolf. That level is much less protective than a drinking-water standard being weighed by the state, she said.
“No one knows what the long-term plan is,” she said, referring to future plans for cleanup at the base, declared a hazardous waste site under the state’s Superfund Program in 2016. “But we will absolutely demand the long-term plan include remediation of the groundwater.”
So far, Wolf thinks the DoD has acted in its own self-interest. “The filter is mainly mitigating the DoD’s liability,” she said. “Up until that filter was installed, they were continuing to discharge large amounts of PFAS into the watershed.”
The air base is currently in the “site inspection phase,” which includes measuring PFAS levels at the base, Pastorello said. “Right now, there are no current regulatory standards regarding groundwater,” she noted. “The EPA has to establish that standard. If the EPA comes out with groundwater standards, everyone will have to comply.”
As of 2018, the DoD had identified more than 400 military sites with at least one area of PFAS contamination; the agency has found more than 500 public and private water systems with PFAS above the EPA’s health advisory level.
States including New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Vermont have gone ahead and set their own limits on PFAS in drinking water. New York listed PFOS and PFOA as hazardous substances in 2017. The EPA says it has started the process for doing the same, though no deadline has been set.
Tumblr media
At the pond where Charlie Parker fished, the state announced a "catch and release" rule because of PFOS contamination.
But federal regulation of PFAS may be on the horizon. In January, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the PFAS Action Act, a bill that, if approved by the Senate, would require the EPA to set a national drinking water standard for PFAS chemicals. The Trump administration has already threatened to veto the bill, citing potential costs to local, state, and federal agencies.
Back in Newburgh, Charlie Parker says he’s not sure if he’ll have his blood tested for PFAS. “No news is good news,” he said. When asked if he was afraid to have his blood tested, he was blunt. “I’m a lot of afraid, yes ma’am,” Parker said.

Very friendly and accomodating Hostess who parked us beside the restroom/shower facility – very clean and comfortable – when we asked. We have stayed here in the past and liked it. The FHU sites are drive-throughs with good TV and WiFi reception. There are many restaurants a short drive away (Mexican within walking distance) and a short drive to downtown and the Mississippi riverfront for shopping and sightseeing. If you are up for a short road excursion you’ll find a Lambert’s Cafe – “The Home of Throwed Rolls” and some pretty good down-home cooking. Lambert’s is not only a restaurant it’s an experience. We had planned a trip to Lambert’s but it was too blooming hot (feels like 105!) we opted for KFC instead and stayed indoors at our site. August is not the optimum time of year for Rving in the South as is February camping in the North. Heat wave passing through here currently.
This is a review and notes from a previous visit we made to Cape Girardeau on the

Stopover #7 on our RV trip – a “loop” from Clearwater, FL to Terre Haute, Indiana – Notes from the road! Memphis South RV Park And Campground 256 Campground Drive, Coldwater, MS 38618 Passport America $25/Cash https://www.passportamerica.com/campgrounds/data/2856/Memphis-South-RV-Park-And-Campground/0#top Restaurants: https://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=restaurants&find_loc=Coldwater%2C+MS+38618
Tumblr media
We have stayed in several campgrounds in Mississippi in the past and when we found Memphis South in 2012 I thought we had a winner for this stretch of road. That was then and this is now. The long road in and around the Park is pitted with potholes so badly you cannot find a path where one or more wheels and we were thankful we weren’t towing Big Bertha this time. The long entrance road is horrible. The Passport price is cheap at $25/cash per night but no longer worth it. One of very few Passport America campgrounds we would not stay at again. The WiFi was non-existent even though we had a line of sight to the repeater less than 50 yards away. The over-the-air TV channels consisted of PBS and children’s programs unless your antenna was directed just so. Ours is fixed so it meant we would have to park backwards on the site. We did that the second night were able to receive the Network channels.
Tumblr media
The staff was cheerful and friendly before and now it’s lacsidaisical at best (being kind) – and showing little interest in our TV or WiFi problems. This could be and once was a great little stopover on I-55 but enter at your own axle’s risk. There is a Subway and Shell gas near the entrance and we can’t honestly recommend either of those either.
Observation: Trying to write on the road has its obstacles like when I glance over and Stanley has a paw in my fresh brewed coffee. Yes, he likes coffee too when he can get away with it.
Normally we head South from here on I-55 toward New Orleans and Bay St. Louis (two of our very favorite places to visit) and then East towards Florida. I-55 through Mississippi is one of the nicer Interstates we travel but this time we will be angling in a Southeasterly direction to pick up I-75 again just above what was our first stopover on this trip near Valdosta Georgia.

Stopover #8 on our RV trip – a “loop” from Clearwater, FL to Terre Haute, Indiana – Notes from the road! Togetherness Works RV Park 3161 State Hwy 253,Guin, Alabama Reservation: 205-487-6092 $25/Cash
Tumblr media
Every now and then we find a gem – a treasure hidden in plain sight waiting for anyone to find it. On this trip it’s clearly “Togetherness Works RV Park”. Rv Park building is not Junior’s real job. He calls it more of a hobby that started 20 years ago on a piece of Alabama mountainside his Mom called home. Just forest on 20 acres when he began to turn it into a beautiful, rural retreat it is today.
Tumblr media
Junior turned lumberjack for part of the “hobby” carefully turning the acerage into some beautiful camping spots. He did some road building to assure good gravel roadways and drainage. He ran city water and sewer lines to each site as well as power. He turned sawyer and built a small sawmill to build a deck and bench for each site. He built a very nice cabin for their kids when they came to visit. His wife, the Alabama Gardener in the family, planted flowers and gardens throughout.
Tumblr media
He had lumber left over after he built the cabin and his wife mentioned it would really be nice to have a shower house – so he built one. The shower house (all knotty pine and tongue and groove inside) turned out large and spacious so his wife said it would be even better if they could have a laundy room. Sure enough you’ll find washer and dryer in the building.
Junior doesn’t advertise so it’s mostly word-of-mouth and not the easiest place to find on the ‘Net but it’s off Alabama Exit 26 from I-22. Then turn right to the stop sign, then left to a “Y” in the road. Left at the Y for 3 miles to the campground.. Phone 205-412-7554 from the stop sign and the owner will meet you at the end of his road.
Tumblr media
This one took some research! Though there are campgrounds along I-22 in Alabama there are very few with good reviews near our stopping point. So it was this one with good reviews or a Walmart Super Center parking lot nearby. We made the right choice and if ever you find yourself RVing on I-22 near Guin Alabama you’d do well to give Junior and his wife a phone call and stop on in. This place also has to be gorgeous when the Fall foliage breaks out!
Now it’s on to Troy, Alabama.

Researchers Examine the Complex Life of the Sea Trout
Sea trout populations have declined sharply. Researchers have studied the life of sea trout by means of acoustic telemetry tags and listening stations. Now they know more about what we need to do to protect the sea trout population.
“Salmon have received a lot of attention by Norwegian researchers. But sea trout haven’t been studied as much. We know a lot less about the sea trout’s migration to the ocean to feed, or how human activity in the coastal zone affects this migration,” says researcher Jan Grimsrud Davidsen.
In 2011, Davidsen decided to do something about the lack of knowledge about sea trout migrations. He and several researchers from NTNU started a project that has now mapped and followed the trout’s life cycle in a number of Norwegian fjords and rivers.
“The sea trout is a species that lives in coastal waters and in associated fresh water systems, and it’s very susceptible to human activity. That’s why we believe it’s important to know more about what these fish do, especially when they’re out at sea,” says Davidsen, a researcher in the Department of Natural History at the NTNU University Museum.
“Sea trout populations in Norway are struggling, and only 20 per cent are classified as being in good or very good condition. The most critical situations are in western Norway and central Norway,” he says.
youtube
Two completely different lives
Trout are peculiar. They all start their lives in pretty much the same way, but then individual trout develop very differently as they mature. Why this happens is still unclear. But researchers are working on the question.
All trout start life in fresh water. Sexually mature trout spawn in streams and rivers during the fall and winter. In spring, the eggs hatch and the trout fry live in fresh water until they are between one and four years old. During this period they are relatively dark in colour and have black and red spots along their sides. This serves as camouflage.
“The smolt grow from being territorial and aggressive to becoming schooling fish that together migrate with the current towards the mouth of the river or creek.”
Some trout then undergo a physiological adaptation to tolerate salt water (smoltification) and are called smolt. In these individuals, their behaviour changes – and they start their journey out to sea. The smolt transform from being territorial and aggressive to becoming schooling fish that migrate with the current towards the mouth of the river or creek.
The smolt takes on a more elongated shape than its non-migratory kin, and turns a shimmery silver colour when it arrives at sea. Now the smolt has become a sea trout. Later it will return to fresh water at regular intervals. This migration between salt water and fresh water classifies it as an anadromous fish.
Trout that don’t become smolt stay in their home waters, behave aggressively and swim against the current. They live in fresh water throughout their lives and eventually become brown trout.
“There’s enormous variation in how the trout develops and lives. It leads a complicated life that we’re now beginning to understand a bit better,” says Davidsen.
More food in the ocean
The seaward migration usually happens in the springtime. Some trout migrate all the way out to sea, where they have much better access to food than in streams and rivers. This is where they feed and grow larger.
From July onwards the trout returns to fresh water (rivers, streams and lakes) where it overwinters and may spawn if it is mature. Then it becomes ocean bound again when spring arrives.
The estuary, where the river opens into the sea, is the sea trout’s first encounter with salt water. Many individuals remain in the estuary throughout their time in salt water.
Other individuals venture further out to sea on their migration. Paradoxically, these are often less robust fish in poorer condition. A preponderance of female fish are also among those that travel the farthest out to sea to find food.
“The first few years we mapped what the sea trout does when it’s out in the fjord. Then we started to study why it behaves the way it does,” says Jan Davidsen.
Female fish take the greatest risk
Sea trout migrate to the sea for better access to prey. “The females have the most to gain from going out into the fjord and along the coast to feed on pelagic fish, shrimp and krill. This environment allows them to grow bigger and increase their production of roe. Or they become better able to fight for a redd (spawning ground), thereby increasing the possibility of reproductive success. So the females are more willing to take this risk than male fish,” he says.
Migrating to the ocean has its costs, such as greater energy demands, the risk of not finding the way back to the river, being eaten along the way or becoming infected with disease, salmon lice and other parasites.
“Also, fish with low nutritional reserves in the spring have to take more chances so they can bulk up. These conditions make them more willing to swim to sea and migrate greater distances to find sustenance. We can say that a fat male fish is typically more of a homebody and often stays in the mouth of the river and close to its home river,” says Davidsen.
What do fish do in the estuary?
One of the sub-projects has been to follow the trout’s movements in the Gaulosen estuary outside Trondheim where Norway’s top salmon river, the Gaula River, flows into the sea. River deltas are places where sea trout thrive.
“We started a project in the Gaulosen estuary where we’ve been working in a very detailed way to map exactly how sea trout use the estuary,” says Davidsen.
Norway’s river estuaries are under severe pressure. “River estuaries are important for sea trout, and they’re an endangered habitat type. Many estuaries are located in larger cities and have been developed for different purposes. The outlet of Nidelva in Trondheim is an example of a river that has been completely destroyed. The mouth of the Stjørdal River by Trondheim Airport is another example.
But the Gaulosen is still quite undisturbed, so here researchers are able to gather background data on how undeveloped areas work for marine organisms like sea trout.
Following sea trout movements
In the winter of 2018, researchers lowered automatic “listening stations” into the Gaulosen waters. They fitted 40 mature sea trout with acoustic sensors and electronic ID tags. Once a minute, the sensor in the fish transmitted information to the listening stations, which recorded which fish swam past and at what depth they were swimming.
“This setup is how we’ve been able to follow the trout’s life minute by minute over several months,” says Davidsen.
For three years, scientists have been monitoring the movements of sea trout using the listening stations. They’ve collected four to five million records from sea trout that pass through the area.
“It seems that Gaulosen is a winter vacation resort for sea trout. Undisturbed marine estuaries offering good nutritional access are important habitats for sea trout, especially in the winter and early spring,” says Davidsen.
Sandy estuary bottoms are a favourite habitat for the bristle worm (class Polychaeta), which is one of the sea trout’s preferred meals. “Some sea trout stay here for almost the entire year, so they’re especially vulnerable when the river estuaries are being eroded,” Davidsen says.
Pernicious salmon lice
Salmon lice have contributed to the decline in the sea trout population. Although salmon lice are not that common in the Trondheim Fjord, the researchers found clear signs of lice on sea trout when they conducted a survey farther north in Nordland county.
Just before the end of last year, the researchers completed a four-year mapping project on marine migrations and area use for sea trout and Arctic charr in the Skjerstad Fjord in Nordland.
Their research included studying the salmon lice problem. Individual sea trout that migrate far out in the fjord instead of staying in the river estuary are at greatest risk of coming into contact with fish farms and their associated salmon lice. And in spite of their name, salmon lice can feed on sea trout.
Many types of fish, such as cod and saithe, congregate around fish farms because of the easy access to food there. Close contact with the farmed fish makes the wild fish more susceptible to lice.
One of the main findings in the Skjerstad Fjord is that sea trout and Arctic charr actually do not spend much time around the farm sites. The researchers have mapped their travels using listening stations at select locations in the fjord, including around fish farms.
And yet the findings confirmed that sea trout have nonetheless come into close contact with salmon lice. The researchers collected data from a fishing trap installed in Lake Botnvatnet, which registered fish as they migrated from the fjord up into the river. Of the 1476 sea trout that were recorded, fully 75 per cent had salmon lice wounds. Forty-four per cent were recorded with one to ten attached adult lice, and nine per cent had more than ten lice.
New and unique understanding
These research methods “are giving us a whole new and unique understanding of the life of sea trout during their marine nutrient migration,” says Davidsen. “We’re getting a better idea of the threat factors sea trout face by finding out how they live in the fjord. That in turn contributes to devising a more efficient management strategy.”
If various threats cause sea trout to stop migrating to the ocean where they can find ample food and grow well, this could significantly alter the trout’s development and weaken the population.
“As researchers, our mission is to share facts and knowledge. Then it’s up to the politicians to weigh the environmental considerations against economic value creation and socially beneficial purposes,” says Davidsen.
“We consider it really important to involve all the stakeholder groups in research where there are conflicting interests, and where the research is quickly used by management and in political decision-making processes. So from the outset, a basic principle of our projects has been to share the financing as much as possible among teams from industry, the administration and local landowner groups,” he says.

Miami
The vibrant city of Miami is a two-hour drive away, through the vast expanse of the Everglades down a highway called Alligator Alley (Interstate 75). Don’t count on seeing alligators cross this wide toll road—for that try the Tamiami Trail (U.S. Highway 41) and dip down one of the side roads and take a wildlife tour. Airboat tours are an option, but for an environmentally friendly excursion, take the Shark Valley Tram Tour and observe one of the most incredible ecosystems in the world up close.
Speaking from experience, the Chevy Bolt EV is an ideal car to cross the state of Florida in, due in part to its smart energy-saving features. Regen-on-Demand is triggered by a paddle on the steering wheel, which enables you to slow down without using the brake pedal, thereby converting energy into electricity that is transferred back to the battery. Similarly, using the one-pedal driving mode, slowing down and coming to a complete stop is as simple as lifting your foot off the accelerator. It sounds peculiar at best and scary at worst, but it’s actually completely intuitive and you naturally get used to it after a few minutes. This method also transfers energy back into the battery that is ordinarily lost when you brake.

As you near Miami, you’ll see the hard-to-miss guitar-shaped silhouette of the Hard Rock Café grow on the horizon and soon the turquoise Atlantic Ocean will come into view. The open-air restaurant Malibu Farm Miami Beach sits right on the water offering stunning views to accompany your meal. Offering the fresh, farm-to-table flavors of Southern California, the restaurant has an international reputation for sourcing local, organic ingredients and being as sustainable as possible. Located inside Nobu Hotel, founder chef Helene Henderson has perfected a vibe of laid-back luxury.
Malibu Farm offers pizza-making classes for adults on Thursday and children on Saturdays, and private classes can be booked on weekdays. Chef de Cuisine Alex Kuzin hosted a recent class for members of the media and gave students a hand-on pizza-making experience. He explained the surprisingly long history of pizza, which dates back to ancient Mesopotamia before being perfected in Napoli, or Naples, Italy, then shared the ingredients of Malibu Farm pizza dough—kosher salt, extra virgin olive oil, yeast, agave syrup, water, high-gluten 00 and the secret ingredient: multi-grain flour made from sesame, sunflower and flax seeds which add texture and a depth of flavor.
Pizza tastes even better when you’ve made it with your own hands. (Photo by Kimberly Dijkstra)
Aspiring home pizza-makers will get a lot out of the class, besides getting their hands dirty and a tasty meal. Each step of the way, Kuzin explains the whys and hows behind each choice, such as why the wet ingredients are added to the dry ingredients and how to eliminate air pockets from your dough, so students understand how to replicate the process at home. The final result is a beautiful wood-fired pizza topped with flavorful sauce, shredded mozzarella and sliced veggies cooked to perfection.
Chasing sustainability on your next vacation is easier than ever. Travel with Long Island Weekly on a road trip through southern Florida—Naples, Babcock Ranch and Miami—in a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
