Jan was talking with Jackie and Heidi about some production she’s in, Crystal was trying to do a cartwheel in the lawn with Rock cheering her on and Gigi watching for safety reasons since her girlfriend was a hazard. She frowned though, not seeing Nicky anywhere.
She was about to turn to look inside before someone jumped close to her, laughing and holding onto her tight. “Surprise!”
“Jesus!” She shouted, holding onto the blonde carefully, only getting more giggles from the girl.
“I got you.” Nicky said in a singsong voice, giggling and pecking her cheek. “You’re so easy to scare, baby.”
“I was not scared.” Jaida gave her look. “I was… taken by surprise. That’s all.”
“Sureee.” The French woman drawled, a drunken blush on her cheeks and her accent more prominent. Jaida always loved that when they’d go out, it made her so cute. “Good idea for planning this party, baby.”
“Well thank you for helping set it all up, Miss hostess.” She kissed her cheek, smiling and holding onto the shorter woman’s waist. They swayed together there for a few moments of silence, listening to the small breeze blow through the trees and their friends laughing together.
“I have to tell you something.” Nicky giggled, resting her head on Jaidas shoulder. The brunette looked down at her with a small smile. “What baby?”

Alright alright alright y'all I saw Devotion
This is not a glowing review of Glen nor this movie so if you don’t want to read that feel free to scroll.
I haven’t read the book, though the movie made me really want to! So that’s a positive for sure.
Also I know nothing about the Navy. Spoilers below the cut.
Disclaimer: I’m generally very critical of movies / tv, even ones I like, despite having zero real cinematic knowledge lol. My dad’s a producer so he and I love to pick apart movies and that habit has definitely made me hypercritical (as a frame of reference I have issues with TGM and New Girl too, two all time faves) so take my negative Nancy shit with a grain of salt please.
Things I liked in no particular order:
Jesse and Tom running the checklist just before Jesse crashes into the clearing
Every scene Christina Jackson was in - she was amazing
When the junior (I assume) sailors come out to watch Jesse’s carrier qualification - thought the reactions of the squadron were really interesting in this and overall a super emotional scene
The aerial scene in the beginning where Tom & Jesse fly by the lighthouse
Jonathan Majors. JONATHAN MAJORS, holy shit. He wowed me. Some scenes made me SO uncomfortable and I mean that in a good way (like him reciting things in the mirror) because he delivered them so viscerally without overplaying the character. His performance was incredibly balanced and overall outstanding imo. If it weren’t for him I likely would’ve hated this movie (sorry Glen)
The scene where the squadron is taking their flight gear before the funeral flight, thought this was cut beautifully with Daisy getting the news of Jesse's death
Glen’s my babygirl. He looks gorgeous in this movie. His facial expressions were generally great throughout. The first half of the movie I enjoyed him mostly (pretty much everything pre-Cannes). That’s kind of where my compliments end for him 🫣 I do not think this was his best performance by a long shot. Most of his line delivery fell flat for me.
That could’ve been because Jonathan Majors steals nearly every scene he’s in. It also could've been the writing, a lot of the dialogue felt very stilted and awkward, especially in emotionally heavy scenes on the carrier.
As a Glen fan, thought it was cute the girl Tom kissed in France was Gigi but most of the Cannes stuff was completely unnecessary. On the positive side there, the dynamic between Glen/Jonathan I thought was fairly likeable in the outdoor bar scene.
Joe Jonas was alright, my expectations were basically on the floor for him so he exceeded that, yay. There were scenes where I liked the CO and found his character engaging and then there were a couple towards the end where I thought he was awkward. I have nothing to say about the rest of the squadron, didn't dislike them or find them memorable.
My biggest gripe is that the pacing of this movie was ridiculous - it felt WAY longer than 2.3 hours. By the end I was beyond ready for it to be over. I probably would never be able to sit through this movie from beginning to end again which is unfortunate. The real bulk of the story is at the end but by the time it came around I was mentally done with the movie and thought a lot of the performances (especially glen’s) towards the end didn’t land. The timing of everything felt really off and although I thought the actor’s performances were generally stronger in the beginning, things took so long to get going that by the end I somewhat checked out.
Overall, loved Jonathan Majors and Christina Jackson. Adored their performances. Felt mostly neutral about everyone else. Extremely negative about the pacing.
Also I still think the world of Glen!!!! I completely understand how easy it is for me to criticize vs the constraints they actually worked with in making this! Sorry don't hate me for this :(

Capt’s Log No. 42_SL’s BIG 20!
iM SuCh a NeRd ! I really do have a designated outfit for Mentoring in AND it matches Bellisaria Welcome Center. W my matching bot friend lol I have been learning a lot as a mentor from other mentors, things about SL and the various worlds and niches you can find here. When you stay so enmeshed in your reality in SL you tend to forget just how vast it is. Its really unfathomable at times, just like they say our galaxy is continuously growing as we are discovering new parts of it, SL is a quantum realm in a way... I have to write a whole article about my views on SL and the astral world and the correlations therin. I digress
SL20B was a blast! I attended the premier of an SL documentary that was amazing, I got to see Phil Linden, Strawberry, all the OGs that was great! I love the talks that they do and all the different things that showcase how amazing SL is, the gifts and exhibits, and opportunities to volunteer and meet new people, and of course THE MUSIC!
My pops did a great couple of sets, it was really dope to see him in a different SL crowd of people that may never have stumbled upon Meroe or the Movement by themselves, that in itself is really cool to me because his sets always plant seeds for self reflection and spiritual growth and understanding. I really love when he does the cinematic spoken word because that is something unique that ive NEVER seen or heard anywhere else in my life. It is truly special my dad goes off!
Gigi, Lex, and I are usually there to support when we can! Partying it up and being the vibes! These glowsticks Lex gifted us def elevated the mood, Lex is a W stage hand. Also, I have to mention because this is something that never goes away, prejudice and racism in SL... during events like this there are always a few bad eggs that bring down the vibes with weird comments and actions towards avatars that look like us, or represent themselves with a strong spiritual and purpose led conviction. Its all about frequency, not all frequencies will mix but people on SL can sometimes come off quite prejudice or whatevs. lmao. Even self hating for some people! When you really dig into the various regions and worlds in SL you can see how perverse/self hating many of the themes can seem.

I got to do my own set it was dope af “Summer Of Love” was my set theme, I put together a set that represented my time in SL thus far, I played a whole Hippie woodstock classic rock set with my favs Jimi, and all the greats. I played Grateful Dead in honor of my first home “Darkstar “ and the old hippies from the lot... XD Then I played some Drum and Bass in honor of one of my fav clubs ive been going to for 10+ years Bassline Junkies. The same folk there and say “Oi oi“ when I enter, Eon the hamster. Great fellow! Then I played house music, in honor of all the various house groups I am a member of and clubs I attend, I fell in love with house in SL, and i ended it with just some feel good jams
oh! and I did a reading for Secondlife and its residents and the future of SL how could I forget that XD yep It was a blast I kilt it . I even built the set in blender and everything!
I wore this belt as my everyday attire on my old SL avie before mesh was a thing. This was my favorite ! It has flexi fabrics that flow when you dance and walk tied on it and little pouches and gris gris bags on it. It was a very sentimental set for me tbh. It was the first time I participated in SLB and it was also the first time I used mic in a full curated set and everything.

Mystory Connect is about to pop off, prepping for major RP vibes ! I am so ready to bring new ppl on the regions and make fun stories and tings, we been plottin and plannin! I am now the Real Estate Agent for mystory! I am super excited because these regions are so well built, you can drive everywhere, ride your bike , you can take the subway which is real working subway, its got all kinds of dope commercial and residential spots to live and work and have great roleplay in. I just love how intimate and homey these regions are, and there are always people around, but its about to be even more poppin with all the new things coming in that we rollin out!

Alright but now I am super tempted to write a thing for this haha.
But before I do I want to point out that I am well aware that both Emmanellain and Artoirel could both use a slice of humble pie. These rich kids could definitely stand to be a bit more like their father or brother. And while they both change for the better, especially after we show them how to be better. Proving to them that their illegitimate brother has got the right idea.
I'd like to think that Edmont has been doing his damndest already but that their mother's influence and death strained their relationship with him too much. Which is why I think real change could only happen once we show up. This is of course just my reading of the situation.
Considering everything we know, there is a ton pointing to Edmont's marriage having been arranged. And I'd argue that Haurchefants existence alone shows how unhappy he must've been in said marriage. So even if he didn't truly love her, it would not mean that his sons didn't as well. And I can imagine that they were all rather miserable.
So the fact that Emmanellain is so bad at flirting and figuring out how relationships work makes so much sense to me. Because as far as we know, he has no proper point of reference.
I'd also like to think that Edmont feels like he may finally do right by Haurchefant by doing what he does for us. And as sad as this is to say… I think what truly makes a difference is Haurchefant's death. Because it is that event that sets the real change in motion.
So at least in my version of it all Drac definitely tries to unravel the mess they've made. He offers to lend an ear and a perspective on things. Some great hugs too. Once Drac and Edmont get together and can be public and open about it, Emmanellain gets a golden opportunity to learn how a healthy relationship should look and work. At the core of it all, these strapping young lads* are not bad people. They just need some help figuring out how to be good people…
But that is just my perspective on things and I am not even gonna try to pretend that everyone agrees with me. And that's OK. ☺️
*(yes I am using that phrase because Edmont called Gigi one and it was cute)

9. Have you ever made yourself laugh with something you’ve written?
i had to go read some of my fics to remember what i’ve written but i found the answer !!! from constant state of saturdays:
“You’re baking for someone. As a date,” Bosco observes simply.
“Yeah,” Gigi says, then promptly drops her face into her hands. “Oh god.”
“You don’t know how to bake.”
“I know, Bosco.”
“Good luck.”
“Fuck you, Bosco.”
Bosco snorts, and Gigi flips her off quickly before the bells above the door alert them to a new customer. Bosco drains the rest of her cup, tossing it above Gigi’s head to a trash can behind the counter, just because she can. It doesn’t go in.
(or willow and daya interacting in the willya fic i wrote for them a while back. that was fun)
17. What piece of writing are you most proud of?
probably in their tree? because (as you know when i bothered you with it originally) i had been trying to work on it for MONTHS before i finished it, and i think it turned out super cute !!! and now when i got back and visit the tree it’s based on i get very :,) also it definitely helped having a fantastic and amazing beta like @fuckyeah-dragrace to help me get my shit together with it because she was a mess without her help <3
18. Which is more difficult, the title or the summary?
ok ok the answer changes every time but i think title has been giving me the most shit overall? normally i forget the summaries exist so i just steal a chunk from the beginning and call it good (probably not what you’re “supposed to do” but god does it make it easier) (also titles are just HARD how do you do it)
26. Is there a specific scene or scenario you’re looking forward to most? (No, you don’t have to give away spoilers!)

ok i (finally) found an answer, but i’m excited for the ways the soulmate au ties into constant state of saturdays!! we get some behind the scenes info, more glimpses into gigi’s job at the coffee shops, and some bosco and daya (of course). i love when fics can be from the same universe, adding little easter eggs feels so exciting and fun and cool

Crystal didn’t care for tea, but at this point she was so desperate to help Gigi that she was researching teas to help her sleep better. She had to get a little creative at this point—Gigi didn’t like chamomile, but she had loved the lavender tea that Crystal would bring her almost every night until one day she told her to please stop bringing it over.
That evening, Crystal found sprigs of lavender in the trash can with a few specks of blood on the flowers. That cleared up any confusion. Crystal added lavender to the list of flowers Gigi had coughed, along with the meaning: purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness. Together they narrowed it down to either silence or devotion, but Gigi didn’t seem to want to look into it any further so they left that one alone.
