Buck: If I marry your dad — Chris: If? There is no if. There is only will. You will marry my dad and that's on bisabuela and Pepa. Isabel, nodding: It is true, I will make sure of it. Pepa: You didn't think just anybody was able to come to the family dinners, did you mijo? No no no, you are stuck with Eddie for life.

Abuela, it’s so good to see you. LA feels a little less like home without you there. Same here.

here's a lil snippet from a new wip i started— wingwoman abuela <3 (a REALLY belated or a REALLYYYY early bday gift for @honestlydarkprincess )
"Nonsense. It's okay." Abuela waves him off. "Anyway, I forgot to tell you, I gave one of the firefighters your number. Oh, he was so handsome and sweet, Eddie! You should've seen him." Abuela giggles. Like, straight up giggles.
And sure, Isabel is a happy woman. She's always laughing with Christopher or teasing Eddie or smiling fondly at her family— She's loving and bright and warm. But Eddie hasn't seen his Abuela giggle like that since his grandfather was alive. It's a little jarring, to be honest.
"He even offered to stay behind and fix that damn porch step."
"I told you I was going to do that." Eddie frowns and shakes his head, confused and a little annoyed. "Wait, back up. You gave a stranger my number? In front of Chris?"
"Chris loved him too. He was so charming and so good with him!"
"Abuela—" Eddie sighs, lifting a hand to massage at his temples.
"I showed him your Facebook picture, too!" Abuela leans in, smirking and with a glint in her eyes. "He said you were cute."
The worst thing is, this isn't even a surprise for Eddie. Abuela and Tía Pepa have been trying to set him up on dates for ages now— Giving out his number to strangers at grocery stores, to the cousin of a friend of a friend, to single moms at Tía Pepa's gardening class, and now to hot firefighters apparently, if what Abuela is saying is anything to go by.
"You really need to stop doing that." Eddie sighs, starting to feel a headache coming his way.

I know I'm a little late to today's tag but my mother and youngest sister are in town and my sister can be... a lot. Anywho, really don't want to get into all of that. So here is a little bit of NFL Buck, featuring the Dosed arc.
Bobby was in the safe hands of Michael and David, with May soon to the join them once her class was out. Karen graciously got off work early to pick up Hen and recorded the over affectionate reunion on her phone. Ravi's mother had come storming in and gave Chimney (one of the sober few and currently acting captain until the all clear is given by the further ups) an earful before bundling the probationary firefighter up in her car, all the while he mumbled on about still being able to see the new type of pollen. The rest of the drug induced firefighters were picked up by various friends or family members. All except Eddie Diaz. On file for his emergency contact he had an Isabel Diaz, with abuela noted next to her printed name and after her, Josephina Diaz. Unfortunately, Isabel was out of town along with Josephina, her daughter and Eddie's aunt, but Isabel did give some reassurance, "Eddie's novio, he's at their home." "Can I get his information then? Give him a call to come pick up firefighter Diaz?" Athena asked. A pause. Frantic whispers away from the phone. Then, "Los siento, but Buck won't be able to do that." Isabel states, voice on edge. "How come?" Athena was becoming a little suspicious. Another pause. More whispers. This time Josephina answered, "It is not our place to explain, but if you would please get our Eddito home safely, we know he will be taken care of." Athena sighs and accepts that she is going to be stuck with the blubbering high mess that is Eddie Diaz a little while longer. Later, when her husband and his newest firefighter were sober, she was going to get answers.
I am so excited for the comedic piece of the arc because I love love love how Eddie was high and I just wanted more of it. If you want to see more NFL Buck, just go here.

Buck: Oh my god Isabel, the tamales are so good, can you teach me how to make them?
Isabel: Of course mi niño.
Eddie*laughing*: you don't know what you got yourself into.
*Two hours later*
Buck * Sweating like he ran a marathon while mixing dough for tamales with his hands*: It was only supposed to be 8 pounds of tamales dough, Now it's 15 pounds! How the hell did that happen?!
Isabel: You were making the dough wrong, you put a lot of water so we put more dough and we continued like this until that happened.
Buck: It's always like that?
Isabel:Making tamales is a chinga mi niño.
Buck: My job is run into burning buildings and I swear to you that there have been shifts in which I have felt less tired than today.
Isabel: And we still need to put them on the corn leaves.
Buck *sobs*: this will never end.
Eddie: Told ya.

Did I have a fever dream or did Ryan mention in an interview before the season that abuela had a secret?
It would be so fucking good if abuela's secret was that after her husband died and she moved back to El Paso that she reconnected with an old friend and that friend is a woman and they're in love.
Let that secret give Eddie a moment of realization. His family and his faith and who he is don't have to be at odds - he can be Eddie Diaz, man who loved his wife, who has this untapped well of catholic guilt, who doesn't ever want to let his family down, and also can be the man he's grown into. The man he's been uncovering as he works through his trauma. He can be queer and still be exactly who he's always been.

Conversation
Abuela: Buck, dear. Would you come here, please?
Buck: Sure thing, Abuela. Be right there!
*later in the evening*
Buck, slightly confused but happy: And then she gave me a box full of recipe cards. Oh, hey, here's your favorite!
Eddie, looks at his boyfriend in awe: She gave you her recipe cards?! A whole box of them?!?!
Chris: Bisabuela means business.

Thinking about Eddie seeking comfort in a phone call to Abuela while waiting on news about Buck. She lost the love of her life…she knows how Eddie felt about how she dealt with her grief so she doesn’t suggest anything of a sort, but she knows Buck, knows how much he loves her boys, how that love was a lot like her own in the beginning. She just gives him calm and gentle reassurance of what she knows (doesn’t even let Eddie pretend to deny it) and makes him promise that when Buck is well enough, they come and visit her so she can love on them.

All these fanfics about "Abuela sharing her secret and special recipe to Buck" just went down the hill instantly. It was Bobby who canonized it. I'll never get over the fact.

[Image ID: 9 GIFs of Eddie and his Abuela from 9-1-1. GIF 1: In a hospital room, Abuela lies in the hospital bed while Eddie holds her hand in both of his own and smiles as he talks to her. GIF 2: In Texas, Eddie teasingly asks Abuela, "You didn't help out at all?" to which she smugly replies, "I was allowed to make the tamales." GIF 3: Eddie, and Pepa, smile with relief and laugh when they learn Abuela made the tamales. GIF 4: After Eddie drops off Christopher with Abuela and rushes off immediately, Abuela calls after him, "Edmundo. Where's the fire?" Eddie stops mid-step and turns around immediately. GIF 5: Eddie kisses Abuela goodbye on the cheek and she crosses him before he leaves for work. GIF 6: Eddie tells his parents, "We have a life here, and family." Abuela and Pepa nod at Eddie as Pepa says, "Thank you, Eddie." GIF 7: Abuela stands behind Eddie and rubs his neck and shoulder in support when his parents berate him. GIF 8: As Helena tells a story about Eddie taking care of his mom when he was little, Abuela half-hugs Eddie and kisses his shoulder as she says, "Why I'm not surprised, huh? Eddie to the rescue, my little hero." GIF 9: Eddie cups Abuela's face and moves forward to let her kiss him on the cheek as she holds his wrist. /end ID]

Ramon had been prepared for a lot of things when his mother moved back to El Paso to live with them. He’d been prepared for the occasional tension over the kitchen with Helena, the reluctance to accept help when she needed it, he’d even been prepared to feel like a scolded teenager again on occasion.
He had not been prepared to learn that his mother had a new hobby of staring at half naked white men on the internet.
The first time he’d glimpsed the screen of her phone over her shoulder it had been in passing and he’d only caught a glimpse that was gone almost before he’d finished his double-take. The second time had been much the same, the image there and gone before he could really take it in. Times three, four and five, something or someone else had caught her attention and she’d put her phone down before he’d really got a look at what she was looking at.
And it kept happening. Ramon knew, of course, that his mother was an adult who had lived a life and certainly had sex but this new - was it new? - habit of looking at young naked white boys was something else altogether. He just had no idea how to broach the topic with her because it wasn’t any of his business. But you heard things about strange men on the internet praying on older people and he was concerned.
He made the mistake of asking Pepa if she knew anything.
“It’s not funny!” Ramon sputtered over Pepa’s near hysterical laughter.
Clutching at her sides, whole body shaking - there were honest-to-God tears streaming down her cheeks! - Pepa was positively beside herself.
“Oh, Ramon,” Pepa wheezed. “Hold on, hold on.” She disappeared from view for a moment and Ramon was left staring out at her kitchen from where she’d propped her iPad on the table. When she came back she was still chuckling but she was holding her phone, scrolling through something. She found what she was looking for and then held it up for him to see. “Is this the half naked white man?”
Ramon squinted at the picture. He hadn’t taken that much notice of the detail but he thought one of those tattoos looked familiar. “Yes?”
Pepa started chuckling again. “It’s Buck,” she giggled. “Mama is looking at Buck’s instagram.”
“Buck?” Ramon said, trying to place the name. “Eddie’s coworker?”
Pepa made a noise and a seesawing motion with her hand. “He’s more than that but it you want to see lots of pictures of Christopher, Buck’s instagram is the best way.”
Ramon didn’t understand what she meant until he borrowed Helena’s phone and her instagram account to look up this Buck person.
The half naked gym photos were worth putting up with for the ability to better keep up to date with Eddie and Christopher’s lives in LA.

Abuela: How is your husband, Eddie?
Eddie: Buck and I aren't married, Abuela.
Abuela: Oh? Then how did you know I was talking about him when I didn't say his name, hm?
Eddie: *silence*
Abuela: Don't lie to me again or I'll tell your husband.
