The Great War of Tadfield Manor
Future Echoes of the Past #1
One of the books on the shelf that Jimbriel is organizing is Catch-22, by Joseph Heller. I have to admit it’s been a while since I read it, (er, several decades, if I’m truthful about it) but my enduring memory is it seemed like the author wrote it in a linear fashion, then took all the chapters and threw them up in the air and put them back together at random, because it bounces back and forth in time in a confusing kind of way. There is a method to this madness, however, and the structure is deliberate. It’s also dealing with bureaucratic absurdity, but that’s not what I’m trying to explore in this particular meta. It’s the bouncing back and forth in time bit.
Tumblr media
Now we have two series of GO to feast on, we seem to be slowly piecing together the expanded history of the GO universe in an inferred kind of way. It’s rarely given to us directly in a chunk, it’s mostly by a comment here and there and then we try to join the dots.
So we’ve learnt that there was a great deal of time that existed for Heaven before time on Earth got started, in 4004 BC, maybe an ineffably long period of time, maybe millions of years, maybe not. Sometime prior to 4004 BC, however, there was a rebellion in Heaven between at least two factions of the angels. This event is sometimes called the Great War - which is what Aziraphale is referring to in S2E6 when he is removing his halo for demon-detonating purposes; he’s not referring to what us humans would call World War 1 in the early 20th century. The result of the Great War led to the formation of Hell. The angel known as Lucifer was the leader of the losing side, and he was known as Satan afterwords. A third of the heavenly host of angels were sent with him down to Hell, and this event is called the Fall. They became fallen angels, or demons. At some point, there is supposed to be a second War, one that will decide who is the winner once and for all time. Well, that’s supposed to be the Plan - God’s Ineffable Great Plan, right? And we all know how the first attempt for that to get started ended up, don’t we?
As we start to look more closely into parallel stories and scenes between the two series, some curious pairs of parallels are starting to emerge. And even more interesting is that some of these pairs indicate that they will get a third presentation  - I’m not just talking about the 1941 Blitz scene here, there are others! And I’m going to try and talk about one of them here, that I think has largely slipped under the radar up until just recently.
There was a meta by @newfangledfancy here about the two parallel scenes in S1 and S2 involving miraculous escapes from being shot with a loaded gun, and we should expect a third one in S3. It’s worth pausing and heading over to read it at this point, but if you don’t, I’ll try to fill you in - and I will revisit in the future, as while it contained the seeds of inspiration for this meta, it also reveals something interesting about Crowley's backstory that's worth discussing on its own. You probably know what and where the S2 “miraculous escape” is referring to: the Bullet Catch scene during the 1941 Blitz minisode in S2E4. But where is the one in S1? It’s at Tadfield Manor, in S1E2, after Crowley has turned all the paintball guns into real guns, and Norman, on the yellow team, cracks it, does a big rant about his life and charges into the firing line of the opposing red team, only to be shot straight in the heart.
Let’s rewind this a little bit, because I want to talk about when Crowley and Aziraphale first arrive at Tadfield Manor. All seems calm and quiet. They stroll in side by side – and are each shot by a paintball. Yep, this has been watched over and over, comments made about the colours of the paint, how they represent their various “sides”, and the sexual innuendo in way Crowley miracles it away after Aziraphale makes heart-eyes at him. But you’ve all missed once very important clue about what was about to go down in the next few minutes that was right in front of you all along.
Tumblr media
Maybe I should pause this meta just here and refer back to my big colour meta I posted recently. I specifically went to all that work so I could come here and discuss the following event at Tadfield Manor.
Firstly, the paintball colours. There are three: blue, yellow and red.
There is a discrepancy between the colour that book!Crowley and screen!Crowley gets hit by. In the book its yellow, but in the tv series its red. Just at this point I’m going to emphasize that yellow is not the same as gold; gold is one of the colours of Heaven, but yellow is usually associated with fear.
Secondly, Aziraphale is hit with blue paint. That’s consistent with both book and tv. Then Crowley blows the blue taint of Heaven away, because Aziraphale needs help to escape its abusive clutches, its not something he can do on his own. Ah, a cute demonstrative metaphor there, another layer to that little scene.
Tumblr media
BUT YOU DON’T SEE A BLUE COLOURED TEAM IN THE FOLLOWING BATTLE! Where is the blue team, that supposedly represents Heaven in the following battle? Did they just vanish when Crowley snapped his demon-miracle into place? I dunno, but we just see a yellow and a red coded team for the rest of the battle. But if blue is always Heaven-coded, yellow is fear, and red, while often demon-associated should be seen more as an indication of passion…what it really going on? Who is at war with who? It can’t be Heaven against Hell, because Heaven is not present, per se, as you know it, and neither is Hell, which is usually green. Oh no, it’s not that black and white…because we are watching a battle where Hell doesn’t yet exist, there is only Heaven at this point. One side, one faction, in fear, the other fighting with passion, and the division that actually creates the ‘blue’ side is yet to occur…
We’re watching a re-enactment of the Great War.
Let’s take another step back, to here: S1E2, around 15.46 minutes in. Newton Pulsifer is about to start a new job (wait, what? What the Hell is Newt doing mixed up in this? To honest, I'm not quite sure...*looks at a certain at note she made IN ALLCAPS again*...oh ffs- that is the worst joke, its got to be one of Terry's...now I can't stop cackling...oh, god now I've spotted another awful, awful joke...poor Newt, I love you more every second...)
Tumblr media
*ahem* Back to the impending battle. Because it's here in the office of UNITED WORLDWIDE HOLDINGS (HOLDINGS) - an office *wink wink* of management and bureaucracy, that we establish the tension. As Newt slides into his seat, Nigel the manager arrives to ask who is exited about the upcoming "training initiative." Turns out, not really anyone has much enthusiasm for it.
Janice is going to complain to HR. Nigel points out there is no "I" in team, and Norman, who apparently organized the whole thing, proceeds to pick the three 'eyes' out of the "team building exercise."
Tumblr media
This is going well, isn't it? [Newt departs. His role here is done.]
Lets skip to Tadfield Manor and the "training initiative" is underway. The Red team, lead by Nigel the Manager, seem to have the upper hand. The Yellow team see to be pleased at a chance to let off some steam with anyone who has annoyed them, the bitches.
Then God drops in to make an interesting observation.
Firms these days expected more than that. They wanted to establish leadership potential, group cooperation, and initiative, which allowed their employees to fire paintballs at any colleagues who irritated them.
Oh. Right. Lets deliberately cause a little chaos so we can see who's got leadership potential, who works together, and who actually has some brains? Go God! Lets start a little War and we'll pick the new Archangels out of the winners? Nice one. Plus, we get rid of all the troublemakers in the process, and we'll just be left with those who like to follow management's orders...
Then Crowley ups the ante. As the young woman who was the only keen employee to come, and is on the Red team, no less, runs past and asks "Who's winning?" he snaps his fingers and to change all the paintball guns to real guns.
Tumblr media
Cr: You're all going to lose. Az: What - what the Hell did you just do? Cr: Oh, they wanted real guns, so I gave them what they wanted.
You're all going to lose.
Aziraphale does his best to protest at the demon's bit of wicked mischief.
Az: But there are people out there shooting at each other! Cr: Well -  Lends weight to their moral argument. Everyone has free will, including the right to murder. Just think of it as a microcosm of the universe.
A microcosm of the universe?
Who's universe, Crowley? Yours? The humans? It's a big universe out there...
Things don't seem to be going to well for some, and Norman, on the Yellow team, has finally reached his breaking point. He makes a declaration. I'm only going to quote the last bit of his little speech, as I want to deal with the first bit in another meta. As he takes off his tie, and wraps it around his head, he says:
"They want war, we're going to give 'em war! OK guys, let's go get the bastards!"
Hmmm. Do the visuals remind you of anything?...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He turns around to charge out - and is promptly shot in the heart. While it's Nigel the manager he is facing when it happens, it's actually the young woman from the Red Team who ran past Crowley and Aziraphale inside the Manor, who asked who was winning, that fired the shot. The implications of this? I'm going to save that for another meta.
The sequence moves on to the infamous wall-slam encounter, which I don't think we need to go over here, so lets skip to where Crowley and Aziraphale have finished questioning the past-Sister Mary Loquacious and have decided they've found all they are going to find here its time to leave. The police have arrived and have broken up the fight. The fun and games are over. As they walk, floating unnoticed and serene, through the chaos, Aziraphale starts to ponder.
Tumblr media
Az: You'd think he'd show up, wouldn't you? You'd think we could detect him in some way. Cr: He wont show up, not to us. Protective camouflage. He wont even know that his powers will keep him hidden from prying occult forces. Az: Occult forces? Cr: You and me. Az: I'm not occult. Angels aren't occult, we're ethereal.
Crowley refers to the two of them as one kind of entity, but Aziraphale insists there is a difference - they aren't the same. Not any more.
The War is over, and the division between Heaven and Hell has been created.
Tumblr media
[Edit: I've since finished a meta on the Bentley and it's connection to crossing the thresholds between worlds. I mention this scene in it, as it is actually a beautiful example of two different times and places existing at once, overlaid on one another, as indicated by the smoke - that's a sign we are in a subliminal space. Its why Aziraphale and Crowley seem to just glide through untouched and noticed, as they aren't really there, in a way.]
Will we see another echo of the Great War in S3? Possibly.
It's the 3-card Monte. Its the three cowrie shells and a lone caraway seed. It's the Professor's Nightmare, where you don't know how long a piece of string rope is.
It's a f*cking Mobius strip that has no beginning and no end, infinitely going around and around.
It's God's game. Only She knows where it stops.

✨ glasses-wearing blorbos tournament ✨
Hello and welcome to the glasses blorbos tournament poll!! Where we will find out which spectacled character reigns supreme over the rest (but not in a mean-spirited way, because we love peace and love) (the losers will all DIE, badly).
We will be determining how the bracket is seeded (randomized or not, etc.) from YOUR guys' opinions! we'll start asking once the submissions close.
Once the poll starts, we encourage asks, replies, tags, posts, etc. with propaganda for your faves!!
you can start submitting your glasses-wearing blorbos NOW here!: link to the google form. but please read the rules below first.
rules:
be nice to your fellow real, living, breathing people.
no terfs no bigots no bitches
submit only via the form linked above; submissions via ask will not be accepted. only use the asks for questions, propaganda, and to be super nice to us
there is no deadline for the submissions yet. we will see when we close them once we start to get submissions, so please submit!
don't submit the same character more than once, but do make several submissions for several different characters if you so wish. you know how it goes.
in principle, we will only be accepting submissions for characters who wear glasses, NOT contacts, for like at least about 50% of their screentime. but it doesn't mean nobody else will be accepted! characters who wear them very rarely, wear a monocle, or have some other weird thing going on that we can't even imagine right now will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
keep in mind we are two people who don't know every piece of media in the world, and we can't spend all of our time doing research!! for this reason, try to provide evidence if it needs to be provided!
the criteria for who the superior glasses-wearer is up to you: do they represent the SPIRIT of glasses-wearing better? are they more iconic for the fact of wearing glasses than the other one? do they wear their glasses BETTER? or are they just your FAVORITE out of the two?!?! doesn't matter. but we're thinking it's mostly about the latter.
There are some characters we will be including by default because at least One of us Likes them (Velma Scooby Doo, Alphys Undertale, Berdly Deltarune, Kim Kitsuragi from Disco Elysium, Teru Mikami from Death Note... maybe more...)
mods:
yo! i'm glitz, i'm also @thesoupisburning and i'm here because i wear glasses and think everyone should know ! i'll be doing most of the mathy stuff and also if you say anythin mean to us, you're saying something mean to rat and i WILL come for you. heart :} use any and all pronouns for me or check my carrd via my main. i am very friendly and love attention so please. please interact. also im opinionated and super sexy trust me bro <3
hi I'm @ratbefriender she/her you can call me Rat and it all started when I was approximately 7 years old and I wore glasses to school for the first time. when my classmates started asking me how many fingers they were holding up, I knew I had to fight the good fight for our brave spectacled blorbos, despite the word blorbos not existing yet. anyway: we're just having fun <3 be nice to us. peace and love.

OC INTERVIEW
tagged by @carlosoliveiraa, @aceghosts, @finding-comfort-in-rain, @cassietrn, @g0dspeeed, and @simplegenius042 for a little oc interview! making this kind of a part 2 to this oc interview i did a while ago.
Tumblr media
“Jesus Christ,” Sybille hisses, sinking into the folding chair set up on the other side of Wheaty’s desk, haggard and weary from six weeks of nonstop fighting. “Are we really doin’ this shit again?”
He regards her, equally exhausted, and sighs. “It’s for morale, Dep. People gotta remember you’re human too.”
“Why?” she scowls. “Aint’ it more inspirin’ if they think I’m Wonder Woman or some shit?”
“Yeah, well, Wonder Woman has literal super powers,” Wheaty says. The attempt at levity falls flat, as Sybille levels him with a glare. “Look,” he sighs, “I know it seems counterintuitive to you, but reminding the people that you’re a person, just like them, will help inspire them to keep fighting against the Cult. Normal life is almost back in the Valley, you know? We gotta remind them that the fight’s still going.”
She’s silent for a long moment, before ultimately relenting. “Fine. Ask ya damn questions.”
WHEATY: Name?
SYBILLE: Sybille Marie La Roux.
WHEATY: Nickname?
SYBILLE: Was “Sarge” for a while. Mostly just “Dep” or “Syb” these days.
Editor’s note: Also “Sweetheart/Honey/Jackrabbit” if your name is Jacob Seed.
WHEATY: Gender?
SYBILLE: [Rustling of fabric as she shrugs] Female
WHEATY: Star sign?
SYBILLE: Taurus
WHEATY: Moon and rising?
SYBILLE: What now?
Editor’s note: She’s a Scorpio Moon and Capricorn Rising.
WHEATY: Personality type?
SYBILLE: The fuck does that mean?
WHEATY: Y'know. Like. Uh. Your Myers-Briggs or Enneagram type.
SYBILLE: I dunno what any of those words mean.
WHEATY: Y'know what, here. Let me call Xander up and see if he has the quizzes handy.
SYBILLE: The what now?
[A painful half-hour of listening to Sybille take various personality quizzes live on the air]
SYBILLE: [Very slowly] “Lawful Neutral,” “ISTJ,” “Type 8w9,” and “choleric.” [Long pause] Wheaty, all these words are nonsense.
WHEATY: Height?
SYBILLE: 5'9"
WHEATY: Orientation?
SYBILLE: [Muttering] Jesus Christ. [Louder] I’m bisexual and I ain’t lookin’.
Editor's note: The rest of the county doesn't know she's taken by this point.
WHEATY: Nationality/Ethnicity?
SYBILLE: American. Cajun French.
WHEATY: Favorite Fruit?
SYBILLE: [Sighs wistfully] I’d kill for a mango or nectarine.
WHEATY: Favorite Season?
SYBILLE: Spring. But since movin’ to Montana, I understand the appeal of autumn.
WHEATY: Favorite Flower?
SYBILLE: Hibiscus.
WHEATY: Favorite Scent?
SYBILLE: Fresh coffee. Pine. Frankincense. Shit, I dunno, it’s hard to pick just one.
WHEATY: Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate:
SYBILLE: Coffee. Black.
WHEATY: Average Hours of Sleep:
SYBILLE: [Long silence] Not nearly enough.
Editor’s Note: Between 4-5 on a good day; closer to 2-3 on bad ones.
WHEATY: Dog or Cat Person?
SYBILLE: [Rustling of fabric as she leans over to pet Boomer] I like both, but overall ‘m more of a dog person.
WHEATY: Dream Trip?
SYBILLE: Shit, it really is a dream trip now, ain’t it? Woulda liked to’ve roadtripped ‘round Australia, but I doubt that’ll ever happen, now.
WHEATY: Favorite Fictional/Real Character?
SYBILLE: Jesus, I dunno. Trinity from the Matrix, I guess.
WHEATY: Yeah, I can see that.
WHEATY: Number of Blankets You Sleep With?
SYBILLE: Depends on where I end up sleepin’. ‘F I can find a cabin or bunker, then one or two. Otherwise it’s just my leather jacket.
WHEATY: Random Fact?
SYBILLE: Was on the track team my freshman and sophomore years of high school, before I had to drop out.
this one has been going around so sorry for any double tags, but, tagging: @marivenah, @corvosattano, @trench-rot, @harmonyowl, @fourlittleseedlings, @purplehairsecretlair, @adelaidedrubman, @socially-awkward-skeleton, @voidika, @locustandwildhoney, @testyfestyenthusiast, @strangefable, @inafieldofdaisies, @alexxmason, @deputyash, @josephslittledeputy, and anyone else wanting to do this for their ocs!

love you like, part 2
kid, killer, sabo, mihawk, shanks
a collection of drabbles
what their love feels like
0.4k words
a/n: another installment of the love you like series, but then again... if it's only two parts, can i still call it a series?
Tumblr media
eustass kid loves you like found treasure. from the moment he stumbles across your smile, he knows that it's something special. he can hardly believe how lucky he is to have found you, to have claimed your heart before anyone else. kid loves the way his name sounds on your lips, how wondrous it is to be yours as much you are his. but it's the affection he finds with you — glittering, rich, radiant, irreplaceable — that's the real prize, and he swears to call it his forever.
killer loves you like a symphony. it builds over time, a slow and magnificent thing. his love is a delicate melody at first — lilting but shy — until your affection comes rushing in, acting as the driving force that leads killer to you. when he finally kisses you, it's harmonious beyond anything the world has known. every touch, every embrace, and every sweet, sweet kiss makes his heart sing, and he hopes that you'll follow his lead until the end of time.
sabo loves you like fireworks. a love that is so loud and colourful, it echoes across the skies and leaves your heart pounding in its chest — this is how sabo loves you. his love lights the night and leaves you breathless. you're left starstruck when he pulls you closer and closer, until your foreheads touch and you can see love sparkling in his eyes. sabo looks at you with as much wonder as you look at him; the way you light up in the presence of his love — this is what sabo lives for.
dracule mihawk loves you like a garden. mihawk recognizes the seeds as soon as they fall into his hand — a tenderness that could grow into blooming affection. he loves you with patience and care, for mihawk knows how delicate these things can be. every day, he showers you with sweet words and envelopes you in a touch reserved only for his beloved. each smile that you return unto him, rosy and sweet, only confirms what he already knows; there is no feeling more beautiful than what you've planted in his heart.
red-haired shanks loves you like a masterpiece. when you're around, inspiration strikes shanks like falling stars. his heart is a blank canvas and you have the honor of painting its first colours. streaks of pink, shades of love, and golden kisses — what starts off as random brushstrokes quickly becomes a work of art that history would envy. drunk nights, quiet mornings, and all the colourful memories that come in between; this is a love so brilliant that one could only hope to find something that even resembles it.

NOTE: All info about my fan series is subject to change as I am writing it. More details may be added or altered in the future.
New Fan series ideas & info dump:
I made a logo for my most recent fan series Konfy Earth Precure. Here it is in Japanese and English:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The themes for this series are foxes and nature. Honestly as soon as I saw we're letting regular dogs and cats become Precure now my brain immediately went "So I can have a Precure that is literally just a fox" and so planing for this fan series began with ideas of making it fit Wonderful's vibe just with some more fights considering writing action is my favorite part of making fan series.
The Name Meaning:
Kon Kon is the Japanese fox sound. I knew I wanted the main cure's name to be punt like Wonderful and Nyammy's are so I went with Konfy which is a pun on the word comfy and kon.
I research foxes in my spare time, I just love googling random facts and trivia about them. Recently I learned what a group of foxes is called there were three names given. Skulk, leash, and earth. No one knows what a skulk is and Konfy Leash Precure sounds weird so I went with Earth which also happened to fit the environmental themes I was going for.
The Cures:
They have not been designed yet and are in very early stages of development but I will share what I got so far for this duo.
Moribe Sierra/Cure Earth - She/her - 14 - A human girl who can become a fox. Outgoing, compassionate, loves animals, friendly.
Sume/Cure Konfy - She/her - A fox kit that can become a human. Feisty, honest, protective, naive, loves food, adventurous.
The only design elements I know for a fact is that Sume is a silver fox and Sierra will have hair the color of a red one. (Note: Both silver and red foxes are variants of the common fox) In their cure forms they will be humans with fox ears and tails being in between human and fox forms.
Moribe (森部) etymology: (Origin: Japanese)
Mori (森) - "forest, woods."
Be (部) - "section, department, category."
Sierra etymology: (Origin: Spanish)
Saw or mountain range.
I named her after the Sierra Nevada fox which is the one Google says is unfortunately most endangered. I thought it fit with the environmental themes. Also I know Cure Earth is already a thing but the name was too fitting not to use.
Sume (スメ) etymology: (Origin: Unknown)
I took the word "kitsune" which is Japanese for fox and shortened it to Sune before deciding I liked Sume best.
The Location:
I am still debating which town should base mine on, all I know is I want it to be near a big forest of some kind. Maybe they'd even have a nature park to explore. Of course I don't know Japan that well but I do like loosely basing my locations off of real places since Precure is set there.
Ideas for Villains:
The generals will be based on a wolf, cougar, bear, eagle and snake respectively they will be known as the Feral Five.
The monsters will be robotic and the Feral Five may end up becoming robots when they can't fulfill their duties. The reason for this is I don't want to show any animals as true villains because even though they hunt foxes it's all just for survival.
The big bad will probably be like a scientist trying to take over the forest with his robotic army or something. Think Dr. Eggman inspired I guess although completely different design.
Allies:
Since I do not plan to have a mid season at the moment aside from the mascots I will be creating a Yui/Seiju type character from Sierra's class that will know their identities. For now here's all I have for allies though.
● Spinosa - She/her - A seed fairy that came to find the help of the Precure, Spike’s sister. Strict, worried, brave, hard worker.
● Spike - He/him - A seed fairy that came to find the help of the Precure, Spinosa’s brother. Laid back, calm, brave, lazy but well-meaning.
● Reynard (Or just Rey) - He/him - A kitsune mentor-type character, gave the cures their powers and sent Spinosa and Spike to find them. Mysterious, wise, fun, caring.
For the mascots I thought it'd be weird to have a normal fairy alongside realistic animals so I looked for other things to base them on. I looked up what were symbiotic to foxes and spiky seeds came up because they often hitch a ride in their tails. So I made mascots based on seeds. Rey isn't really a mascot more of a Rosemary type character.
Miscellaneous Ideas:
For the transformation I thought it'd be cute if they high fives to start them. No transformation device necessary they just high five while saying the phrase and the transformation starts. I imagine it being playful and upbeat with some Elegance mixed in.
That is all I have for now, will this is ever be finished and released? Idk! Anyways bye! Thoughts welcome.

One colorful dude... at minimum
Couple of weeks ago, I got hit from all sides with all sorts of Matt Martinoskyisms.....
I'm guessing Matt maybe thinking I'm some sort of groupie, and that's actually quite funny. No... I'm just overly impressed with this guy. Sometimes I get a bit giddy about all of Matt's world.
The seed was planted in my itty bitty head. I thought itd work itself over to an earworm,... It didn't, something malleable, to work with. Matts image was just sitting there glaring at me. Forced me to write with no plan today, right now....
Here's how it went:
Watching tv, and they had a blip about Matt being interviewed (again) for his job/services to the homeless of Lincoln. Its not common, but I'm not overly surprised anymore when it happens. Has happened more than a couple of times.
And dammit,.... its all deserving. He's good at it. The city of Lincoln and some organizations have awarded him with some remarkable recognitions. He works hand in hand with several agencies including Lincoln Police Dept.
If you know Matt, you'll know that he has an advantage, that is not exactly the common man. Flowing red hill billy beard, tattoo'd sleeves, and who knows what else. Matt is a free flowing spirited person... and it works for him very well.
This gets him on the insiders scoop with the "shelterless" (as the new term is used). He's not just some suit fresh out of the office trying to push his way into someones life. He's recognized as the real deal, and means what he says.
Tumblr media
I looked hard, for the tv interview, texted his dad.... couldn't find it, until about 30 minutes later. Got my Matt fix, and life was good.
With in the next 24 hours fate pounded me with Matt.
I keep checking his youtube site, but nothing new on there, its great and entertaining but older. All from his artistic point of view. (I love sending one of his videos to friends). https://youtu.be/lA9CTpYSBkk?si=lSoFYaAwLzhNsFXo
This brought up thru a search by accident, he just released some music on "bandcamp.com". Several originals, and several covers. As he ages, his voice is fitting him perfect. Incredible voice. This was all done in december/november?? No idea, I just tripped across it. https://mattmartinosky.bandcamp.com/album/red-headed-stranger
And with Matts touch.... all proceeds go to someone else than himself.
He's got some music on his youtube channel.... earlier stuff, but this new stuff is a treat. www.youtube.com/@mmartinosky
Then there he was on a podcast. Its a couple local of guys. Very good with what they do here. Matt told of his history. Its not pretty or glorified. Makes me wonder how a person goes thru all that and becomes what he is today. https://youtu.be/FwIPM52ZD3s?si=VgQeD_zojfScDtWS
Alright.... everyone caught up to here? Got an idea what this guy is all about? I doubt it, he's all over the place.
There's other things he's into..... Motorcycling (did a tour on some vintage bikes a few years ago with his wife [she on her own]), old mechanical things, etc.
Now put all that in a bag, and hold on to it....
Matt has been battling cancer for a couple of years now. All the big scary words of treatment. Good times, bad times..... it just continues, and so does Matt. HOW?
He makes all of it look natural, as everything is just a common everyday movement of life. Small hic ups. No problem.
Does this guy ever sit still???
..............
I've known Matt most of his life. His Pop and I are best of friends (LTT employees). This doesn't give me insiders info on Matt, it just means I do know him. That we can have a fair conversation between us without being too uncomfortable. Surprises me that he'd take the time to have a conversation with a geezer like me anyway.
BUT......
He inspires me to be a better person. To quit whining about trivial stuff. To celebrate life and its randomness. To take on with no regrets formidable foes.
Sorry Matt... had to do it. Please don't stop what you are doing, not sure there is anyone out there that can do all of that, and well.

honestly? real talk? everything. it could be as simple as the name of a coffee brand and the loose concept of a bird pecking at a seed and suddenly i arrive at - 'you know what sounds cool? a really bitter short guy who hates that he must function without certain tools to survive', which vague, yeah, but look at how many characters i have with existential dread-- (that raises an interesting question about my writing i should probably reallllllllly think about.) i mean this seriously. i get inspiration from random things, in a similar way that a musician would pick apart a song as they listen to it and maybe play with those elements later. it's the same sort of process for me. like gimme a word and i'll make a character out of it

Where did you the inspiration or the starting seed for Long Road Ahead? The premise itself is just so good that I wonder where you got the idea for it.
Oooo thank you so much for your question! Sorry, this is a long answer because I love talking about Long Road Ahead.
TW: discussions of depression, sexual assault/trauma
I think the idea originally came from my life exploding. I was in the middle of finishing up my degree and doing a coding bootcamp that was the equivalent of a full-time job with even more homework and a bunch of other stuff all at the same time, and there were a few moments where I just wanted to escape to a cabin in the woods and disappear. And, after reading Solar Lunacy in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep from stress, I had the thought of 'What would Sun and Moon think of living in a random house out in the middle of the foothills?'
And that spurred more questions, like how in the world did the boys get there in the first place? How would Fazbear Ent. branch out with advancing technology? In a way they're kind of based on Disney where the company never, ever, ever throws anything (or anyone in Sun and Moon's case) away. And of course they would start getting into the adult industry. They could get around sex worker's rights, ethics, and slap a positive spin on the company under the guise of stopping human trafficking, the spread of STD's, etc. while making money. And how would Sun, who (in my mind) lives on human connection react to that being taken away and being relegated to the role of an object. How would he adapt? How would Moon try to protect himself and Sun when no one trusts him anymore and he trusts no one in return, when he's forced into the role of a monster?
And what happens when someone comes along that accepts them as they are and shows genuine care and love without any expectations and sees them as people?
(I really just wanted to give them all hugs)
And then how would industries, economics, politics, the day-to-day interactions of everyone be influenced by the rising number of animatronics and how everyone views sentience?
And from there it just kind of grew. Fighting for the rights of everyone and a road trip across the US and exploring the world and seeing beauty in the barest deserts and wild forests and glittering cities.
And then the personal. An intimate look at three broken people learning how to live again after loss and trauma.
Oof, that was probably a lot longer and more detailed than I meant, but I just got really excited.
(Confession: y/n's house is based on a place I lived in for a short time and the loneliness and quiet are so so so real)

Is your oc a self insert?
Weirdly personal response under the break
I think that all of my characters, no matter how small, are extensions of me in a way. Think like Ian Malcolm/Michael Crichton in Jurassic Park type deal.
The real self insert was when I was like 12 and used to draw and write myself as a ninja with cat ears and a cat sidekick kinda like Kiba and Akamaru...LOL god, if I ever got hold of those notebooks or sketchbooks again I think I would just wither up and die of shame. There were just so many intricate drawings that were just baad, and the fics that were riddled - RIDDLED - with spelling errors. I don't know if I have these fics anymore, but if I manage to find one back from my middle school days, I will absolutely transcribe and share with the world because I'm sure we could all use a really good laugh at my expense.
But as for Kaiya, who is my main OC; no I wouldn't say she's a self insert. Actually, I've discovered a phenomenon of ME taking after my characters. For example, I researched the hell out of gardening and food preservation when building Kaiya's character, as she was always meant to live next to society rather than inside it. Anyways, that muse ended up a full time obsession and I was desperate to grow vegetables and keep chickens even though I lived in a major city and had a tiny balcony the size of, idk, a small bathtub. But, I persevered and 10 years later I had a small hobby farm in the middle of nowhere with chickens and a big garden. Though I gave all that up when I separated with my partner.
In fact, I think the most "self-insert" type aspect of my OC is her appearance, and that might have been a bit of laziness on my part. I think a lot of manga/anime characters have colours and designs that are really bright and significant, but making my own characters like that just didn't appeal to me for some reason. I don't think I'm very good with aesthetics tbh so I just avoid it lol. I like characters who are colourful, don't get me wrong (my fave part about Gaara is his red hair) but I also don't mind characters who fade into the background a bit and can make up for it with strong personality.
Also on another, random note: Gaara influenced me too. I grew cacti from seed, and his influence has made me a lot more political and "in the know" about world events. He also helped me take care of myself emotionally and mentally, as I found his story inspiring. I also took a job in bylaw as inspiration from him and made a lot of friends in the military reserves by that connection which was really cool. Ultimately, though, I gave up that job to become a copywriter with some basic graphic design (blah), as writing was my true passion.
Spoiler: I hated that job. I absolutely hated it. Turns out, writing is only fun when you're writing about the stuff you enjoy.
Now I work supporting medical staff!

women who haunt the narrative
not sure why i had this idea. but we gettin sillay with it
General Character Rules
1. Nominees must be published fictional characters. “Published” can mean from a book, movie, podcast, web cartoon, whatever - they just can’t be real people and can’t be OCs*.
2. “Haunt” can indeed be a literal haunting of a character in the narrative (such as Alecto haunting Harrow from The Locked Tomb), but the character doing the haunting must have narrative weight and relevance to the story beyond “is a woman” and “is a ghost.”
3. “Haunt” can of course also be in the more metaphorical sense! I will leave it up to the submitters to decide what counts as haunting the narrative, but there will be an explanation section in the form that must be filled out (n/a answers will be allowed but depending on the number of submissions may get discounted).
Submission Rules
1. You may submit multiple characters from the same media, but please do not spam submit a single character.
2. You are allowed to submit men, but the man in question must be, ahem, “womancoded.” A man being “babygirl” does not count. Really what we are trying to avoid here is a situation where half of the submissions are “this man traumatized his kid and is also dead.” This is not a gender thing it’s a vibe thing that idk how to explain it sorry. N/A explanation answers will not be allowed for men and will be disqualified. Worst comes to worst there will just be no men.
3. You are allowed to submit a group of people, but the above regarding explanations also applies.
Tournament Procedure
1. The goal will be to have a full bracket (64) but is subject to change dependent on submissions. If there are less than 64 submissions then we will pare down to the next closest multiple of 16, as that would still provide a full “wing” of a bracket to be filled out. The same will occur if there are 80+ submissions.
2. Seeding will be determined via a round robin. Characters will be put into groups of 4 based on a random number generator and will have a poll dedicated to that group. At the end of the poll we will pull random numbers again for one more round. Total vote numbers and percentages will be counted (in the event that a poll gets significantly less votes than others) and competitors will be seeded accordingly.
https://forms.gle/sDEQsH1t2nzAa68d7
*if you want to tell me about an OC woman that haunts the narrative, send an ask! if we get enough there might be a little bonus tournament with them at the end.

Mersuit emulating the history of Sweden.
Shoshoni as something somewhat similar to a developed amerindian old westerns' United States of America...
Widespread appeal of Asetism (Monasteries, humility and introspection, likewise to Jains and Buddhists) & Taizhou (Tala-e-Fonua equivalent) as key major worldly religions
No Woodrow Wilson, progressive major successes in the 1910-1945 equivalent.
More long-term sustainable and successful generational pathway in the 1960s-2000 period, still leading to a slow partial ecological collapse like in the Incatena reality just about around the mid 2045-2050 period with signs of decay arising from the 2020s. So the sapient peoples are more cooperative and empowered with the people that era and won't see as much of the managerial crisis sparks until the mid-2020s.
The global pandemic hit during the early 2000s alongside the dawn of ecological issues coming ahead (giving a slight headstart to fully figure problems coming not that far ahead), just around the time of nanotech synthetic autonomous androids emergence and a handful of alternatively successful technical progressions making them a slight bit ahead of ours on a couple fields. No mainstream autonomous governance AI service grids or really crazy Sci-fi innovations just yet, but a fair share of orphaned developments we did not have continue in this world.
A couple of benevolent worker cooperatives like Pflaumen (DEC+ZuseKG), EBM (IBM+ICL) & Utalics (Symbolics+Commodore+GNU Foundation)... continue well into the 21st century and persist as major computation players in the tech industry, averting the immediate rise of Macroware (Microsoft), Avant (Google) & Maynote (Meta) by the ill-conceived social medium strategy.
[ More to be written... ]
POSTFACE
All may be subject to heavy changes still (but especially everything global map related), so take it with a large pinch of salt, please. Thanks for reading btw and farewell to soon!

oc name meaning tag game
ooooooh this is an interesting game, thanks for the tag @dotr-rose-love! (sorry @ everyone whose tag games i missed pretty much the entire month of march btw, i know i'll never get to catch up on them but might work through a few that look immediately doable at some point) i'm tagging @nanashi23, @inkspellangel, @linaket, @pga-books, and @ls-daydreams!
rules: list OCs and explain the meaning of their names
i tend to pick names based on the vibe i have for the character -- i have strooooong associations with various vowel combinations, or arrangement of letters, or pairings, etc., so most of this is just "idk it sounded cool". but because i love the idea of this game so much, i'm going to do it for every WIP i have rn:
so it goes
Marisa: i wanted a name that ended with an A because names like that make me think of someone sincere and serious
Isaiah: i wanted a biblical name; i associate those with families with deep lineages and a strong matriarch for some reason, which was a quality i wanted Isaiah to have
Ali: i wanted a name that complemented marisa's because they were sisters in the original draft, and i feel like L's and S's complement each other nicely. her full name is Alison, but i wanted her to be someone fun and outgoing, and Ali feels like that more than Alison
Paige: i got stuck on her name and picked a name from a random generator -- for some reason, when i see the name Paige, i instantly think of a girl who is aesthetically similar to the character (whose description is inspired by Gillian Jacobs)
Henry: another random generator produced this one -- i wanted it to be a very common man's name that wouldn't provoke much interest
Sophia: she's not a main character but i fucking love the name sophia/sofia so much. it's probably my favorite ever girl's name. it means wisdom and in some schools of gnosticism it was the emanation of god that was paired with Christ and unintentionally caused the world to exist
the space between pomegranate seeds
Meredith: i wanted a name that felt like the weird religious girl everyone knew growing up, but wasn't super cliche like Chastity lol
(most of the other characters are purposefully unnamed)
decomposing gods - priestess of bones
Claire: when i originally came up with this story idea i was deep into my Early Cronenberg Period (end of 2021) and had just rewatched Dead Ringers. i knew there would be a trio of women, so i gave them the names from the movie as placeholders: Claire, Bev, and Elly. i chose Claire for the documentarian because i felt the name fit her personality/vibe best, a diminutive brunette intent to prove herself
Bev: as above. i originally wanted to go Bev/Elly for the documentarian and camera person's roles, but realized they didn't fit right. also frankly i always categorized this as a lesbian name in my head for some reason, which worked out best since the character is queer
Sofia: even though i felt like Claire and Bev fit well with the characters i also never intended to actually use the trio's name. Sofia as a filmmaker is actually most inspired by Julia Ducournau, but i do love Sofia Coppola, lol.
bilocation
Emily: the real person she is based on is Émilie Sagée, and i didn't want to trick myself into not writing this by deciding to do research on the historical period she's from (1800s latvia), so i americanized her name and placed it in a 1980s boarding school in oregon but retained the formal speaking voice i'd imagined for her
Ms. Frond: i honestly went with the first word that popped into my brain on this -- i have so many characters named after the most bizarre shit because i'll use anything for a last name that pops into my head. i love it, though, because Emily becomes obsessed with her and has an established fascination with plants
Roland: i wanted a name that felt like a surprise on the groundskeeper character -- he looks like a dude who would be named something like Biff or Johnson or something, but he becomes a much more tender and gentle character than you anticipate from the description

I rather enjoyed Oppenheimer yesterday evening. Some random thoughts about it:
I was expecting it to be more introspective, focused mainly on the existential horror of, you know, a brilliant scientist, despite best intentions becoming the "destroyer of worlds". And that was certainly part of what the it was, and Cillian Murphy gives a brilliant performance, but for me at least, the film was much more about this inevitable march of the world towards tragedy. The film literally begins and ends with discussions of chain reactions, and the film itself portrays the biggest chain reaction of them all.
Part of it is that the storytelling felt ... "rushed" is the wrong word, it takes its time with long, indulgent shots, well written converations, and so on. And it's a three hour movie after all. But still, there is just so much ground to cover, so much relevant history and so many personalities (the namedropping gets a bit hilarious at time), that even extremely important events often really only get one mention, and then it's off to the next. This is a common problem in book adaptations, but in this case I didn't mind, because it contributed to this sense of rapidfire historical developments, you start to feel impressed the characters have time to breathe with all that is happening around them.
For most of the film, it all leads up to the Trinity test, and my goodness, I was surprised I felt such an intense mix of giddy anticipation and enormous dread. I mean, it's a historical event, we all know what happened, but still it felt like I was not prepared to actually see it. And it all unloads in this drawn-out explosion that is as awe-inspiring and despair-inducing as anything could ever be. It really felt like this was the moment a world ended and a new, worse one began: the one we are still living in. Again: The seeds for this were planted long before, and it was almost inevitable, but this really is the point of no return. The characters themselves react triumphantly, but this same mix of feelings I was talking about sort of gets subsequently delivered in the reactions to the Hiroshima bombing. I actually approve of the decision to not show this bombings of Japan at all, keeping it distant and intellectual. You have to put in effort to see it as real, yet at the same time there is zero doubt about it, you see the effects everywhere.
I was happily surprised by the very open discussions of politics. You are not forced into an opinion, but there certainly isn't a shortage of opinions to choose from. Oppenheimer usually gets the last word in discussions, but then again, by his own assessment, his principles led him astray, into designing the first nuclear bomb.
The long hearing about revoking Oppenheimer's security clearance for communist sympathies after the war works pretty well as a framing device. The framing device of the framing device was rather weird, like, I really didn't care all that much what happened to Lewis Strauss, but RDJ annoyingly portrays him extremely well, so at least it wasn't boring. And it did allow some remarks and details about Oppenheimer which would have been awkward to fit into the story otherwise.

Here are the last pages of my sketchbook+something im gonna put in the new one
First page is concept art for a future location in my comic. I've been doing a lot of renditions of the same place, because I want to try everything before I put it in the comic, since after that I can't change it.
Next is a random doodle I decided to color with my alcohol markers. Have'nt used those in years, but I wanted to add some color to my sketchbook. It worked suprisingly well on this paper, which makes me a bit sad I didn't try it before lol
After that I made some concept art for a robot in Old Blood. If you follow my sideblog you might've seen my huge lore dump about the robots, but tldr there's now a few types of robots, and this one is the "animalistic" type. Considering I didn't sketch at all, the perspective is actually decent. On the right of that is just me using up the left over paint I had. I always do this because I dont want to waste paint. I never plan anything with them, I just throw paint on the page and see what comes out.
On the last pages I have sketches of fantady creatures inspired by Pliny the Elder's animal descreptions. Most of them dont have a real counterpart, except the scorpion. I used the descreptions, the illustrasions, and the real animals (because a lot of times he would describe stuff like "head of a badger", "legs of a stag" etc). Theres a lot of interesting stuff there. Completly innaccurate, but facinating lmao.
Last pics are of a painting I did on a saparate piece of paper, since I'm not 100% sure of which sketchbook should I use next...
Either way I'm gonna glue it there when I choose. As for what I painted, this is more concept art for the comic / Old Blood. The idea is like a fire forest. I got inspired by the practice of controlled fires in forests, and of trees that take advantage of periodic fires to spread their seeds. I just pushed the idea of a fire dependent forest to the extreme.
Next to it is what I used the leftover paint on. I had a sketchbook I got when I finished highschool from my art major, and the paper there is... kinda bad so I knew I'm not gonna choose this one. It ended up looking pretty cool, and I might use this as concept art as well.
Overall I've been really enjoying messing around with gouache, but now I want to get back to digital, and to the comic. It's been... way too long since I worked on it. And the idea of changing the style of it excites me.
