-:✧Finding Sources✧:-
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go." - Dr. Seuss. The internet is a very large place, and countless times you’ll hear people telling you to do your own research.  However, informational literacy is hard enough without even knowing what to look for in a source, let alone how to read it.
What to Look for in a Source
There are a few good things to look for in a credible and reputable source. As can be inferred from the meaning of credible and reputable, a credible source is going to come from someone or something that is worthy of confidence, and a reputable source is going to be one that has a good reputation.
Peer Review in Academia
Peer review is the review of a scientific study, academic paper, or similar article by other members of their field with similar or greater credentials. The paper clears several other people who are actively trying to dash the hopes and dreams of the author by finding flaws with their design and reasoning.  I mostly kid, but it is a rigorous process that results in the paper being as high a quality as it can be.
Journals
Academic Journals are periodical publications where the most recent scholarship on a subject are routinely published. Often these are shortened to just “journals” or otherwise known as “scholarly journals”, “scientific journals”, or “peer reviewed Journals”  These are peer reviewed before being included, and themselves often a good place to search for information.
If a source you find has been published in a journal, you’re in incredibly safe territory for reliable sources! There might be competing information from other scholars to review on the subject, but not only do these publications often include more reading material on the subject cited within, they are often followed by links to others who have cited them in their own writing on the subject.
University Publications
University Publications are also very safe places to look for sources.  While not themselves always a research paper, they are often the culmination of the knowledge that the university has gathered and reflect the most recent scholarship on a topic; least they risk making the university look bad. These are sometimes found on a university’s website, in a professor's online class notes, a textbook, or similar writing linked to someone in the field.
Primary Sources
Primary sources are often the gold standard for knowledge on a subject, assuming you can find something that qualifies. However, these are often hard to untangle as they can be dense, old, difficult to read or understand (and compared to an academic paper that’s saying something!) assuming they’re even in a language the reader understands.
Where to Find Sources
There are a number of places to find good sources.  A quick search engine check can do wonders, however they can be a whole mess, and even knowing what you’re looking for, they can make it harder to find good quality in the sheer volume.
Research search engines and open source libraries can make this process much easier. Google Scholar and JSTOR are good options, and if you’re really in a pinch you can look at Wikipedia. Many will tell you up and down that Wikipedia isn’t a credible source, but while there is some truth to that, you can click the numbers on the information you want to see the sources at the bottom of a Wikipedia page.  You can check these sources individually to see how you feel about them.  Wikipedia also has a “Talk” section where the contributors discuss what should be on each page that sometimes has additional sources or information that was not included.
How to Get a Library Card
Please go to your local library!  Most likely the librarian will be able to help you. You can also check the website of your local library to see if you can sign up. Often libraries will either have books on the subjects that interest you, or may even be able to order them for their collection. Libraries have also started providing eBooks and other technological services. If this is an option for you, it is highly suggested!
University Library Access
Students at most universities are automatically enrolled into the university’s library system. These people can careen around a paywall like it’s a sliding glass door between you and your dreams, and they have the keycard.  Find them, ask them, it only takes like 2 minutes of their time to download and send you whatever file you can’t get, especially if you link it directly.
Non-Academic Sources If you’re at your wits end and the only options for sources are news articles, blogs, or websites this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If this is a personal account of someone’s experience this can be a good thing! Take extra care with these and see if you can’t find multiple sources saying the same thing.  If something is true, most likely you’re going to find multiple people saying the same thing in different ways. However, if you do find multiple sources, look to make sure they aren’t just citing or copying one another in a hellish circle of plagiarism.

grabbing myself by the scruff of the neck and forcing myself to at least skim read a longform post or piece of text that i just scrolled past despite thinking it sounded interesting because it's "too long" i will NOT contribute to my own attention deficiency and limit my general knowledge and critical thinking skills by needing information spoonfed to me in bitesize pieces to be able to digest it i will NOT

millions of people live through each day of their lives without ever having the thought "let me look it up on the supernatural transcripts website" or "oh yeah let me just find something at the supernatural screencaps website" couldn't be us though

Quackity: These past days I've been in many calls, and I'm not done yet. I've spoken to a lot of people and creators. I've read your comments and I'm well aware of what needs to be done to carry out this project. I want to tell you all, beforehand, that for me the team's well-being is fundamental. I'm very involved in this topic to sort it out and I want to make that very clear. I want to tell you something... I want to tell you all that the administrative staff responsible for so much harm to the project has been fired. Specifically, those who made decisions without my permission, affecting the administrative and financial area of the project. Consequently, after this, I was in charge of doing a financial analysis that's carrying out for the QSMP.
Guys, to be really honest, it was not going to last. Therefore, I've had to make deep drastic structural changes that have lead me to reduce the performance of the server down to the most essential, and this is in order to ensure the well being of everyone involved in it. Having said this, I want to give a very important update: I want to let you all know that the QSMP will have to slow down temporarily. This is to ensure this new structure adapts to the project, because it's a restructuring that's taking place. I'm letting you know, and I reiterate, there are no voluntary positions inside the QSMP.
At the moment, there will not be any more individual update accounts of all 5 existing languages in the project. In any case, during this transition, there's going to be a temporal absence of all Eggs and NPCs. I know these are difficult changes, and I repeat, it's temporary until we adjust to these new conditions that will improve the performance of this new structure that's being made from scratch, both in the administrative and financial part. I'd like to reintegrate people fro the QSMP as time goes by if a financial viability can be found for the project Taking advantage of this update to tell you guys that within the changes of the server as it is, creators will have full control of their lore and stories. The team will not intervene in the way that it was being done. Moreover, efforts will be made to change the competitive dynamics inside the game so as to ease up the game style for the creators. Like I'm saying, all of these changes, and more, are being carrying out to have the project as best as possible, and they're being done little by little. This is a whole new structure that will ensure the best continuity and experience for the creators, the community and the team behind.
Guys, I want to make very clear that this is restructuring process, and again, it's not a fast one. The server being open does not mean everything's perfect, I understand that very well. Conversations will keep taking place, communication will continue and the constant improvement of the project as well. I ask, please, for everyone's patience and understanding regarding all changes. Please do wait for official announcements since a lot of incomplete and incorrect information is being spread. I want to tell you all something- if you don't trust in these changes or have many doubts about it, and don't want to consume any more of the project's content, I understand 100%. I have a personal commitment with the QSMP and I will work until it functions in the way it is supposed to do.
Lastly, I want to let you know that it was being worked on for months on finalizing the integration of Korean creators to the QSMP. For that reason, tomorrow we will be welcoming the new Korean creators of the QSMP, of course, taking into account all the changes I've just mentioned. I hope you can give the new Korean members warm welcome to the project. And as you know, their schedules are earlier. For everyone who would like to watch, they will be joining at 11am Mexico time and at 9am US time. Basically, I wanted to give that update regarding everything that's being done within the project. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding- these are necessary changes and I'm glad they're being done now. And many more things will keep being adjusted.

It is my sincerest and unironic belief that we must invest in preserving "old technology." The more we move to a hegemonic, easily-surveilled way of living, the worse we will find this world to be.
Letters, public phones and transport, cash, and so much more are key to ensuring both freedom of movement and information, but also to combat the surveillance state. We need to preserve the ability to both access the world but also to be untraceable. I truly hope more people start to recognize this. It isn't about nostalgia for the past. It is about ensuring that we are actually afforded freedom, from the richest person to the person who lives on the sidewalk.

#art#ive literally just been treating this game as a library simuator#i walk from bookseller to bookseller opening up all of their books#vivecs sermons are either a highlight or the point at which i stop reading#ive been trying to convince the ordinators that imitation is the highest form of flattery but it hasnt been working#let me wear your helmets please theyre so funny..#posting morrowind in 2024 isnt a cry for help but youre not wrong to be concerned.#morrowind#almalexia#vivec#im going to explain the chitin armor give me a moment#so the bonewalker nerevar on the shrines is adorable and it was only after drawing it however many times that i realized#it looked relatively close to a modified chitin armor#and so i modified chitin armor a few times and this was probably the cutest result#i also know i drew almalexia relatively pristine and untouched by years and vivec not so much but my thought process was#vivecs role as if not a favorite then the most accessible divine or the most “hands on” in a manner of speaking#acting in ways visible to the general population or actions explicitly brought to their attention#like not that almalexia isnt doing anything she is#but the dissemination of information regarding that is very different etc etc etc#anyways to a certain extent a god is the face on a shrine or in art or upon a statue or carving#but vivecs presence is interwoven with the geography of vvardenfell especially and his actions and writings with pubished materials#and the arts and culture and customs etc etc etc#so to me the face of a god you know and feel a commonality with or a god that walks alongside you is a face you would recognize#and vivec is already otherworldly looking enough#the simple mark of the years on his skin in some way grounding him in reality felt more right#that and i think the ways in which he and almalexia care about outward appearance are slightly different- they prioritize different things#and the ways they present outward power and their embodiment of their respective attributes share some similarities as they both have that#important preoccupation with physical power and physical strength to a certain degree#oh my god nobody read this i am yapping so bad.#tes

if u are in the state of california, or can get to the state of california, you can get abortion on demand for absolutely free by doing this
go to a hospital listed under the "qualified provider" list here: https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/eligibility/Pages/HospitalPE.aspx
ask for HPE
no information needs to be verified. you can lie and you will not get in any trouble, EVER. say your income is less than $1k a month. you do not need to give a SSN but do not comment on your immigration status. i recommend you don't mention you're pregnant even if you are, but if you do tell them you're pregnant, you'll still be able to access abortion care (it's just that it limits other non-abortion services available to you - it's complicated). if you're just visiting california, say that you're a resident (NOT visiting). give an in-state home address. (this will not be verified. give any address as long as it's in-state. could be a hotel or a liquor store or anything)
you will get immediate medi-cal coverage for the rest of the month you're in and the month following. (for example, if you applied today, june 24, you would get coverage from today to july 31).
note that this is fee for service medi-cal. this means you are not enrolled in a managed care plan
find a fee for service provider who provides abortions (check your county website, but you can also refer here: https://data.ca.gov/dataset/enrolled-medi-cal-fee-for-service-provider). most planned parenthood locations accept fee for service medi-cal, but check before you go
if you run out of time (i highly recommend you know EXACTLY where you're going to go and verify that you can get an appointment within 60 days before you get coverage at a hospital), it is possible to get coverage again through this process by using a DIFFERENT NAME AND DOB. that is crucial. you will be denied if you don't. **note: if the hospital, or the provider afterwards, asks for your ID to verify name and dob, tell them you don't have one. they are required to go to "reasonable efforts" to verify that you're the person you say you are, but they cannot deny you service for not having an ID.**
just be sure that whatever name and DOB is on your eligibility document (the hospital will give this to you when you apply), that is the name and DOB you give the provider
i know this isn't super helpful as californians are not the ones at risk here; but if someone from out of state can get to california, then you can get an abortion without having to pay for it

[”Abortion will soon be banned in 13 states. Here’s which could be next.”
Trigger ban to take effect within a month: Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky
Likely to ban: Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina
Uncertain: Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida
Likely to remain legal: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine]
[”Thirteen states have trigger laws that will ban abortion now that Roe is overturned. BUT only three of them go into effect immediately: Kentucky, Louisiana, and South Dakota. If you have an appointment in those states, CALL YOUR CLINIC NOW. They can help you go somewhere else.
Idaho, Tennessee, and Texas have trigger laws that go into effect after 30 days. If you have an abortion appointment in those states, DO NOT ASSUMED IT'S CANCELED. Call your clinic now. You may have 30 days left in your state. Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming also have trigger laws but they require a government process step to go into effect. If you have an appointment in those states, DO NOT ASSUME IT'S CANCELED. There may be time. Call your clinic NOW."]
--------
It is still legal to travel to states where abortion is legal. The FDA allows abortion pills to be available by mail, and they are approved for the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. Telemedicine abortions will banned in states where abortion is illegal, but international groups like Aid Access will offer online consultations and mail pills to all states.
Your internet activity can be used against you in court. Delete any period tracking apps and do not disclose your pregnancy online. Learn about internet privacy to keep your abortion private and secure.
National resources for info and access to abortion:

National Abortion Federation: https://prochoice.org/#
NAF Hotline (Monday - Friday 8 am - 7 pm EST, Saturday & Sunday 8 am - 4 pm EST): 1-800-772-9100
Now is the time to donate to your local abortion fund. If you live in a state where abortion is likely to stay legal, clinics expect an influx of people from other states looking for healthcare.

Tumblr: we want people to be able to find new blogs to follow so you can find your community!
No not by seeing who people are reblogging from that's not allowed.
No you can't see who people are talking to with prev tags that's not allowed.
No you can't see the icons of the people you're following to know at a glance who's reblogging what and know them better. that's not allowed.
Sorry, did we say "find your community?" we meant "trawl through the endless swamp of the internet so you can reblog funny popular things"

I wish real life academia was more like The Magnus Archives because I'd much rather face otherworldly evils than have my research blocked by INFINITE PAYWALLS. Jonathan Sims might've suffered immensely and nearly ended the world but at least he didn't have to cite inaccessible sources.

the problem with Seven's deadnaming (whether on the shows, or the novels, or in fic) is that it definitely IS deadnaming because it's not her name, she canonically, on two different shows, hates being called anything other than Seven or Seven of Nine, and at worst she says nothing about it if she has no recourse. The unfortunate fact of the matter though is that literally everyone knows about “Annika Hansen” because it was on the file related to her and her parents' disappearence, and it could've been interesting commentary on how having been part of the news/having publications/being credited for their work publicly makes it difficult for a lot of trans people to escape being outed and/or deadnamed. And yet the shows still keep being weirdly ambiguous about what Seven's deadname represents! We got Janeway trying to 'appeal to her humanity' by deadnaming her, Axum being grumpy that the person she is now is not the dream projection of a little girl anymore (more deadnaming), a Borg cube deadnaming her in front of Elnor (??), and an asshole who clung so hard to his status as veteran of Wolf 359 that he couldn't help but deadname his own first officer at every turn. It's like, I'm not surprised to learn that fic writers are unrepentant when doing the same thing to Seven because canon is weirdly fond of this crap as well!
